MAYbe It's Time to Check-kit

MAYbe It's Time to Check-kit

Awareness campaign urging young Londoners to get tested for Chlamydia

London, United Kingdom (PRWEB) May 6, 2009

London is the 'Chlamydia capital' of the UK and 'MAYbe month', which launches on 1 May, aims to combat the spread of the most prevalent and fastest growing Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) among under-25-year-olds with an intensive Chlamydia screening drive and information campaign: "Maybe you've got Chlamydia" (http://www. check-kit. org. uk).

Chlamydia has no symptoms and therefore you cannot be sure that you're not loaded. MAYbe month is supported by GPs, pharmacists, youth services and outreach workers who will host over 200 Chlamydia screening events during the month. The campaign is organised by the NHS in Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith, Fulham and Westminster.

If you are under 25 and live in West London, you can get a free and confidential Chlamydia test by post (https://www. check-kit. org. uk), from your GP, participating pharmacists or from a local Westside Contraceptive Services clinic. There is no excuse for not knowing your status. Testing requires just one urine sample, and if you test positive for the STI it can be treated with a single dose of antibiotics.

If left untreated Chlamydia may cause serious health problems such as preventing both men and women from being able to have children. It can also lead to arthritis. Anyone who has had unprotected sex could have Chlamydia because it is often symptomless.

Although London has the highest rates of Chlamydia in the UK, an NHS-sponsored survey among 16-24 year-olds in central and West London showed a widespread lack of awareness or concern about Chlamydia and its consequences (http://www. check-kit. org. uk). With statistics as high as 60% not knowing for certain that they don't have Chlamydia and 66% confirming that they have had unprotected sex, the MAYbe campaign is critical to their sexual wellbeing.

To encourage under-25s in West London to take the opportunity and get tested some famous faces are donning the MAYbe-branded clothing created to support the screening events during May. Luke Pasqualino, who plays Freddie in E4's Skins and Jeff Leach, star of Big Brother's Big Mouth and BBC Switch are two of the celebs supporting the cause and who will be donning the gear in the area.

The campaign has also found a friend with Channel 4 and the fantastic Peep Show, who have very kindly lent their support with this Chlamydia sex clip (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=V09EI1PkLvw) from their 5th season of the popular programme.

Ideally all sexually active young people should have a Chlamydia test every year, or when they change sexual partners. Make sure you don't have Chlamydia - get a free and confidential test during May.

About MAYbe campaign
The MAYbe campaign (http://www. check-kit. org. uk) is an intensive information and Chlamydia testing drive by the NHS (http://www. nhs. uk/Pages/homepage. aspx) that runs throughout the month of May throughout West London in the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham.

International Blogging and New Media Association Relaunched to Serve Growing Demand

International Blogging and New Media Association Relaunched to Serve Growing Demand

The growing success of blogging and new media drives demand for an association to represent users' needs. Veteran business bloggers Paul Chaney, Jim Turner and Zane Safrit join IBNMA as president and executive board members.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 21, 2008

The International Blogging and New Media Association (http://www. ibnma. org) (IBNMA) today announced that it has relaunched under the leadership of newly-elected president Paul Chaney.

"Over the past six months we searched extensively for the right person to lead the organization and revitalize its health and growth," said IBNMA founder Rick Calvert. "We believe Paul is that person and we're thrilled he has accepted to serve as president."

Chaney is a veteran business blogger and was co-founder of Blogging Systems, a blog software company that significantly impacted the real estate industry by encouraging Realtors to adopt blogging as a marketing strategy. He also co-authored Realty Blogging: Build your Brand and Outsmart Your Competition (http://tinyurl. com/realtyblogging), which was the first blogging book to target a specific industry vertical.

"I came to the conclusion a number of years ago that blogging, podcasting and other forms of social media were burgeoning into an industry which, at some point, would need an association to represent it," stated Chaney. "That time has come and I'm honored to be given the opportunity to lead IBNMA to be the standard bearer."

The IBNMA's strives to serve the interests of the blogging and new media communities as a global non-profit association. The Association's mission is four-fold: To provide research, information, education and advocacy to bloggers, podcasters, social media consultants and others engaged in the industry in any way.

"The organization's mission and goals remain intact and serve a need in our industry. However, taking ideas and goals from concept to reality has been much more difficult than was originally anticipated, slowing development of the organization until now," said Chaney. "My role is to serve as a catalyst to kick-start short-term growth and lay a foundation that will insure long-term viability."

Jim Turner and Zane Safrit have joined IBNMA as board members. Turner is a well-respected social media consultant, professional blogger and president of One by One Media (http://www. onebyonemedia. com). Safrit, also a veteran blogger and former CEO of Conference Calls Unlimited, is a small business management consultant (http://zanesafrit. typepad. com). Rounding out the board include IBNMA founders Rick Calvert and Miles Durfee.

Those seeking more information about IBNMA and/or who wish to join may visit the Web site, www. ibnma. org.

Local Entrepreneur Attends Shaklee Corportation's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Local Entrepreneur Attends Shaklee Corportation's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Conference Speakers Include Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai United Nations Millennium Promise Director Dr. Jeffrey Sachs

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 27, 2006

Angela H. Wright of Houston, TX recently joined thousands of likeminded entrepreneurs from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Malaysia at Shaklee Corporation’s 50th Anniversary Conference, held here on August 16-20. Shaklee, the number one natural nutrition company in the U. S., set a first for the City: it offset all carbon dioxide emissions associated with the conference, including Wright’s air and ground travel, hotel accommodations and event activities in what was billed as the first carbon neutral conference in the history of San Francisco.

“Dr. Shaklee was ahead of his time. He built a sustainable business model focused on preserving the health of people and the planet,” said Roger Barnett, Shaklee Chairman and CEO. “Thanks to his vision, Shaklee is poised for tremendous growth over the next 50 years, as public interest in living a healthy life in harmony with nature continues to grow.”

Conference attendees heard from internationally-recognized speakers, including: 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Doctor Wangari Maathai, founder of The Green Belt Movement, a grass roots non-governmental organization; Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, special advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan and co-founder of Millennium Promise, a multinational plan to halve global poverty and hunger by the year 2015; Rudolph W. Giuliani, former two-term Mayor of New York City; and Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man in history to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.

At the conference, Shaklee named Dr. Maathai the Global Ambassador for its A Million Trees. A Million Dreams. ™ environmental restoration program. Shaklee also announced its sponsorship of award-winning Arctic explorer Will Steger and his fourth expedition to the Arctic Circle, called Global Warming 101.

“It’s exciting to be part of an organization that cares so much for the health of people and the planet,” said Wright. “The conference inspired me to safeguard the well being of my family and my community, and to redouble my personal environmental protection efforts.”

Two major product introductions were introduced at the conference: Get Clean™, a safe, nontoxic, biodegradable cleaning line that is safe for people and the planet; and Cinch™, a new weight management system specially formulated to help break the yo-yo dieting cycle, retain muscle, burn fat and lose inches.

Wright started her health and wellness outreach two ago, and has found that helping others learn about the benefits of a wellness program has led to a successful home-based business. For more information, contact Angela H Wright at 832-620-5346 or visit www. thewrightcare4u. com

Talent Tree Adds California Operations to the Fold

Longtime national staffing company Talent Tree kicked off 2008 with its acquisition of CalStaff, a Sacramento-based staffing company. The sale included CalStaff's main staffing division, in addition to their specialty divisions: LawStaff, GraphXStaff, CalStaffMed, CalStaffIT and AccountableStaff.

Houston, Texas (PRWEB) February 13, 2008

Longtime national staffing company Talent Tree (www. talenttree. com) kicked off 2008 with its acquisition of CalStaff, a Sacramento-based staffing company. The sale included CalStaff's main staffing division, in addition to their specialty divisions: LawStaff, GraphXStaff, CalStaffMed, CalStaffIT and AccountableStaff. Together these divisions serve general staffing needs as well as specialty areas in the Sacramento and northern California area.

Talent Tree saw the acquisition as a perfect complement to its current Sacramento offices. "We've been interested in expanding into niche specialty markets and CalStaff's reputation for delivering high-value service made them an obvious choice for bringing on board the Talent Tree family," said Michael Manser, VP of Human Capital Development at Talent Tree. While CalStaff's specialty divisions bring something new to Talent Tree's offerings, the synergies between the two companies are obvious; both have been dedicated to providing high quality staffing services for over 30 years and have earned reputations for outstanding customer service.

Founded in 1970 by Lee and Cecilia Landry, CalStaff grew into the area's oldest and largest independent staffing firm. All 15 CalStaff staff members will remain as part of the Talent Tree team. CalStaff's name will change to Talent Tree, while LawStaff, GraphXStaff and AccountableStaff names will remain unchanged under the Talent Tree umbrella.

Founded in Houston, TX in 1976, Talent Tree provides comprehensive staffing services for a wide variety of industries, including banking and finance, communications, healthcare, manufacturing and retail. Today Talent Tree employs more than 35,000 temporary associates and approximately 250 staff employees annually through a network of over 65 offices in 23 states. These resources, as well as strategic corporate partnerships, enable its 4,000 active clients nationwide to increase staff productivity, concentrate on core competencies and maximize financial efficiency.
