Book Sheds Light on Pulmonary Embolism, the Possible Cause of Jesus Christ's Death

Researcher Dr. Benjamin Brenner recently publicized his theory that Jesus possibly died from a pulmonary embolism. (PRWEB) June 13, 2005

(PRWEB) June 13, 2005 – In a letter sent to the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, researcher Dr. Benjamin Brenner recently publicized his theory that Jesus possibly died from a pulmonary embolism. Brenner said he was publicizing the theory to increase awareness about the potentially fatal disorder. Author Lisa DuFrense agrees that more awareness should be raised about this leading cause of sudden death. Those wanting to learn more can read DuFrense's book, "Near Death at the ER Window."

"People are not aware of it, both in the public and in medical practice," Brenner told the Associated Press. He further elaborated that 80 percent of pulmonary embolisms are diagnosed only in autopsies.

DuFrense knows about pulmonary embolism from first-hand experience. She is a survivor. “It is more common and more fatal than most people think. However, I cannot comment on the likelihood of Jesus' death being attributed to this. I am not a physician,” she says.

DuFrense, a hospital dietitian, was at the right place at the right time when she collapsed at the ER window. Otherwise, she would not have survived. The first words she remembers after her collapse were:

“Get the stretcher out here!”

“On the count of three; get her up.”

“Get blood gasses STAT.”

“Give her the oxygen tank.”`

“I only had minutes to live. Even though I was a health care worker, I didn't know how fatal this could be,” she recalls. Lisa was misdiagnosed by physicians for three months prior to her collapse.

Pulmonary embolism is the third leading cause of death in the United States. And, it is the leading cause of sudden death, killing more than 200,000 people in the U. S. annually. “This number could be drastically reduced by knowing risk factors, signs and symptoms of pulmonary embolism,” DuFrense says.

"Near Death at the ER Window" (ISBN # 1-591602-37-8) is available at bookstores and online at www. amazon. com and at her Web site, www. neardeathattheerwindow. com.

Trupanion Celebrates Pet Insurance During National Pet Health Insurance Month

Trupanion Celebrates Pet Insurance During National Pet Health Insurance Month

Pet insurance company Trupanion celebrates National Pet Health Insurance Month by taking a look back.

Seattle, WA (Vocus) September 7, 2010

September is National Pet Health Insurance Month and Trupanion, North America’s fastest growing pet insurance company, is celebrating by taking a look at the most expensive and interesting pet health insurance claims in the past twelve months.

Most Expensive Claims

Rampage, a Cane Corso dog received treatment for bilateral shoulder osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), a condition in which the cartilage becomes detached from the bones at joint locations. The pet insurance claim amount was $4,860.01. Trupanion repaid $4,176.94.

Rufus the Pug needed treatment for esophageal stricture. This condition occurs when the esophagus narrows and the animal has difficulty swallowing. Symptoms may also include lack of appetite, weight loss, wheezing sounds, excessive drooling, regurgitation, and crying while trying to swallow. Pet insurance claim amount totaled $14,175.22. Trupanion repaid $12,533.31.

But Georgie takes the cake. Georgie, a young Labradoodle waged a battle with liver disease and jejunal intussusceptions. Treatment for these conditions included monitoring, medications, IV fluids, anesthesia and surgery. The total pet insurance claim amount equaled $17,404.15. After the deductible, exam fees, and 10% co-pay, Trupanion repaid $15,129.67.

Most Bizarre Claims

Princess, a Cocker Spaniel, had an unfortunate run-in with a rattlesnake. The poor girl was very disoriented, panting rapidly, and on the verge of paralysis when admitted to the veterinary hospital. She went into critical care and needed various fluids, medications, and blood work. The total pet insurance claim amount was $9,234.15. Trupanion paid $8,224.80.

Two similar claims came in the same week for the same policyholder. The family owns two Golden Retrievers that are over 7 years old. Both dogs tore their ACLs and needed surgery in the same week.
Clementine tore her left cranial cruciate ligament and Winston tore his right cranial cruciate ligament. The total amount for both claims equaled $8,319.92. Trupanion repaid $7,280.92.

Sniper, a Miniature Schnauzer, found his way to some chicken bones and got pieces stuck in his esophagus, requiring emergency surgery. The total pet insurance claim amount was $6,825.16. Trupanion paid $5,558.54.

“As we look back over this year, we really feel proud of the benefits we have provided to our policyholders,” said Darryl Rawlings, Chief Executive Officer at Trupanion. “For every one of the expensive or bizarre claims we receive, we pay out hundreds of claims for everyday accidents and illnesses we all know can occur. It’s a good feeling to know that we have helped so many pets.”

National Pet Health Insurance Month has also inspired The North American Pet Health Insurance Association, of which Trupanion is a founding member, to host a contest for North America’s Favorite Pet Insurance Story. During the month of September, pet owners are encouraged to send in stories and photographs that represent their pet insurance experience. The winner will take home $1,000, and a $500 donation will be made in the name of their dog or cat to their favorite local shelter or rescue group. The runner up will receive Apple iPads.

To participate in this contest, submit your story on NAPHIA’s website, http://www. naphia. org.

Piribo: New Publication Announcement, British National Formulary for Children 2006

Piribo: New Publication Announcement, British National Formulary for Children 2006

Piribo, (piribo. com) the online destination for business intelligence for the biotech and pharmaceutical industry, has now added a new report called “British National Formulary for Children 2006”.

(PRWEB) August 21, 2006

New Zealand represents a small but highly developed market for medical equipment. The country has a well-developed health infrastructure, and facilities are of a generally high standard. Since the early 1980s, the healthcare system in New Zealand has been the target of numerous economic reforms. Historically, healthcare provision has been almost entirely public, but radical changes implemented by the National Party government in 1993 introduced elements of competition and private enterprise into the healthcare sector, with limited success.

The election of a Labour Party-led coalition government in November 1999 has produced a further overhaul of the healthcare system, and the Party was subsequently re-elected in July 2002. A series of reforms are in the process of implementation, comprising some major structural reorganisation such as the abolition of the Health Funding Authority in 2001, in a move towards more de-centralised healthcare provision with the increased responsibility of District Health Boards, but the shift is not of the same radical nature which the country has undergone in the past.

The best access to the market is through the appointment of a local agent. Around three quarters of New Zealand's medical supplies are purchased by the MoH, while private hospitals and individual surgeons account for the remainder. For advanced products, the private sector becomes much more significant.

These medical device market reports are ideal for executives wanting to understand the key drivers in medical markets and have access to a wealth of statistical data. Each report opens with an outlook section that provides analysis of the market, 5-year market forecasts, national data projections, market outlook and key developments such as regulation, health facilities and government policy. The report also provides extensive background information, population trends, health status, health expenditure, organisation & administration, hospital services, medical personnel, healthcare development, market access information, trade data and essential industry contacts. Included with the report are 3 free quarterly updated outlook reports, enabling you to keep up to date with market developments for a year.

Virtualization a Winner for Multisite Contact Centers According to CosmoCom Sponsored Study

Virtualization a Winner for Multisite Contact Centers According to CosmoCom Sponsored Study

72% of Executives Report Significant Improvements in Call Handling Statistics

Melville, NY (PRWEB) March 31, 2010

The latest research by contact center industry analysts at ContactBabel has confirmed that joining multisite contact center operations together into a single 'virtual' contact center has brought significant benefits to both businesses and their customers. This is according to the more than 200 contact center operational leaders surveyed for "The US Contact Center Decision-Makers' Guide" -- a major annual study produced by ContactBabel and sponsored by CosmoCom.

Research for the report has found that respondents who had implemented virtual contact centers (http://www. cosmocom. com/Solutions/enterprises. htm) were generally very pleased with the gains in efficiency and service levels that they have experienced. Nearly three quarters cited ability to smooth out call spikes by balancing the load between contact centers as their top benefit, followed closely by reduced wait times, wider ranges of skills available to callers, and overall cost savings between sites.

Coping with call spikes is one issue which is growing year upon year. With virtual contact center technology, like CosmoCom’s, call workload is not limited to a single site, but instead can be allocated across all agent locations (including home workers) as volume or business rules dictate, heading off many of the issues normally associated with call spikes.

Flexibility to allocate agents when and where needed means better agent utilization, so virtual call centers are less likely to have agents sitting idle while others are under great pressure. This same flexibility also expands the pool of agent talent available to callers, including specific technical and language skills. The resulting reduction in wait time and increased access to skilled agents translates to increased caller satisfaction. A majority of virtual contact center respondents also strongly agree that there have been significant savings on call costs between physical sites.

Of the survey respondents with multiple-site contact centers that had not yet virtualized their operations, 61% agreed that their main concern was the management of teams across multiple locations. "Managing virtual teams across any number of virtual contact center locations is simplified when you have a unified platform like CosmoCall Universe (CCU)," explains Steve Kaish, CosmoCom VP of Product Management, "With all of the call center features unified together seamlessly in one high-availability, highly scalable platform, it makes it much easier to manage virtual teams."

The report's author, Steve Morrell, comments, "The best virtual contact center technologies allow multiple operations or even homeworkers to be linked together so as to be viewed and managed as a single mega-site. This allows significant economies of scale and improvements in performance to take place, without the attendant problems around environment, morale and attrition that plague many very large operations. Our research shows that those businesses which have taken the virtualization route have usually found very significant cost and performance benefits. "

"The findings in the report reinforce that our core value propositions around multi-tenant, multi-site virtual contact centers (http://www. cosmocom. com/productInfo/Product. htm) are right on target," said CosmoCom CEO, Ari Sonesh, "It is also worth noting that survey participants reporting the highest use of multi contact center deployments were in the healthcare and insurance industries, which explains why we’ve seen such good uptake in these verticals."

Crohns. Net is Proud to Celebrate 10 Years Providing Life Changing Resources to All Their Visitors and Continue to Make an Indelible Mark on the Cyperspace Health Community

Crohns. Net celebrates 10 years of continued, on time service to their world wide customer base. Pamela Nathan, L. Ac, CEO is intent on providing excellent, personalized support to everyone who visits her site. Digestive problems are her specialty. The wealth of on site testimonials validates her genuine concern to assist those in need.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 10, 2008

Crohns. net celebrates 10 years of continued service to their devoted clients who have not only thrived but also achieved a new level of well being by following the advice and recommendations given to them by corporate owner and innovator, Pamela Nathan, B. A., L. Ac.

Crohns. net, Pamela's brainchild, began it's presence on the world wide web ten years ago, long before most of the large vitamin supplement companies even thought of the idea of having a cyberspace shopping environment.

Pamela recalls her first website - one product and one inspirational story about one person's road to recovery: she had met Jordan Rubin and he had shared his amazing success story of how Primal Defense HSO probiotics helped him recover from a life threatening condition of Crohns Colitis.

Crohns. net has expanded it's product line to over 100 products, hand picked by Nathan who does not compromise on quality. She only stocks the highest quality supplements from select, reputable companies like Garden of Life, Essential Formulas, Sigma Tau, Child Life, Pharmalox and Nordic Naturals, to name a few.

Pamela Nathan (http://www. crohns. net/Miva/education/aboutus. shtml) is, in fact, a pioneer in the field of alternative medicine. She started her career as a licensed Homeopath in South Africa in 1977, long before most people even knew what homeopathy was. Her early experience as a young mom, taught her first hand, about the effectivity of natural methods of healing. Her son, Alan was cured of asthma using homeopathy, nutritional supplements and dietary changes. After her emigration to the U. S., she continued her holistic education exploring the benefits of meditation, massage therapy, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.

Today Nathan is intent on creating a personal relationship with visitors to her site by offering complimentary on line support to all who ask her advice. Her 30 years of clinical practice is well appreciated by those who benefit from her knowledge and suggestions. She takes an adamant stand about the importance of diet in every possible illness. Her desire to help those suffering from a wide variety of complaints is evidenced by the fact that she answers every email personally. There is no mass production coming out of Crohns. net. Each person is treated as an individual - the fundamental teaching of holistic medicine.

Nathan spent many years assisting Dr Steven Brody, OBGYN, in a stress management program (http://www. stresshelpcenter. com) designed to alleviate emotional distress experienced by a wide variety of conditions ranging from PMS to infertility. Nathan and Brody spent several years accumulating clinical data to support research that was presented at national OBGYN Conferences two years in a row. Their research showed an overwhelming 43% reduction in subjective stress level scores as experienced by those who participated in the study.

In celebration of their 10 year anniversary as a cyberspace community, Crohns. net is offering a complimentary copy of Jordan Rubin's new hardcover book Perfect Weight America (http://www. crohns. net/page/C/PROD/GAN3080) valued at the retail price of $24.99 for all orders, while supplies last - $5.99 shipping does apply.

"We're committed to education", says Nathan. "It seems appropriate to be offering this incredible book as a gift," says Nathan, "seeing that Jordan's recovery to a state of continued good health is where I started." Forum Urges Councils To Use LABGI Funding To Boost Small Business Hardship Relief

Forum Urges Councils To Use LABGI Funding To Boost Small Business Hardship Relief

The Forum of Private Business is urging local councils to use the £50 million awarded by the Government’s Local Authority Business Growth Incentives (LABGI) scheme to provide additional hardship relief for small firms.

(PRWeb UK) April 20, 2010

The Forum of Private Business is urging local councils to use the £50 million awarded by the Government’s Local Authority Business Growth Incentives (LABGI) scheme to provide additional hardship relief for small firms.

By ‘thinking smallest first’ and pledging the money to bolster small business rate relief, councils could free up to £150 million in match-funding from the Government.

The business support and lobby group’s call follows the yesterday’s publication of the latest round of LABGI grants. The scheme is aimed at encouraging business growth by rewarding enterprise-friendly councils with grant funding that is not ring fenced – meaning they can spend it as they see fit.

"As the £50 million from the LABGI scheme is ‘unringfenced’, according to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), councils should use this money to pay for hardship business rate relief for struggling business,” said the Forum’s Rates Adviser Andrew Bacon, of LeaseholdersUnited.

He added: “If the entire £50 million was used by councils to pay for hardship relief the Government would have to give them another £150 million. This is because the relief is 25% funded by the Councils and 75% by the state but councils have sole discretion on granting it.”

The LABGI scheme operated from 2005-06 to 2007-08. It did not operate in 2008-09 but, for councils in 55 sub-regions of England, it has resumed for 2009-10 following several changes the Government says will make it more ‘transparent and predictable’.

These include allocating initial funds to sub-regions, which are then distributed to local authorities, rather than directly to councils. Further, grants are now awarded based on increases in income from rates rather than increases in the rateable values of commercial properties.

But there remain concerns, initially reported to the Forum in 2007, that, because the level of LABGI funding is based on increases in business rates, some councils are spending their time and money courting bigger developments, such as out-of-town shopping centres, at the expense of helping independent firms within their communities.

Mr Bacon explained: "The easiest way for a council to increase its ‘bonus’ under the LABGI scheme is by granting permission for large high value developments, or indeed diverting resources towards them,”

"Plus, as the new scheme doesn’t ignore increases in business rates as a result of indexation, some councils will end up just getting paid for business rates rising by inflation and be left to spend the money on anything."

The Government wants to encourage sub-regional cooperation on economic development via the latest LABGI scheme, focusing on giving struggling small businesses a kick start.

The Forum of Private Business is responding by calling on councils to help achieve this by using the LABGI funding to boost the rate relief that is available.

In addition, the Forum is urging all councils to remember the importance of small businesses as major local employers when trying to secure LABGI funding, seeking inward investment and developing their economic infrastructure.

“Of course the funding is welcome, but, for the good of the community, as well as its economy, this latest LABGI scheme is only relevant if it encourages the council to focus on the growth of small firms,” said the Forum’s Policy Representative, Matt Goodman.

“Local authorities are free to spend the LABGI money as they please but given their importance to the community as employers and rate-payers, and with the tough economic climate we still face, it is fair that small firms should be the main beneficiaries.

“Let’s give the money back to the businesses that are trading and get the economy moving again.”

Formed in 1977, the Forum of Private Business is evolving following a year of intensive research about the real needs of small businesses.

As an invaluable extension to its members’ teams the not-for-profit organisation has developed a range of tailored business solutions to support, protect and reassure small firms throughout the lifecycle of their businesses.

These are: ‘Finance Director’, ‘Legal Director’, ‘HR Director’, ‘Health and Safety Director’, ‘Development Director’, ‘Purchasing Director’, ‘Communications Director’ and ‘Managing Director’.

H1N1 Guided Meditation –- An Empowering Tool This Holiday and Flu Season

H1N1 Guided Meditation –- An Empowering Tool This Holiday and Flu Season

Stress, fear and anxiety decrease the efficiency of the immune system. Meditation can help it work at a more optimal level. PeacefulLife. ca, a provider of online down-loadable meditations, launches its H1N1 Immune System Primer Meditation to offer people a way to deeply relax, build their confidence and optimize their immune response this holiday and flu season.

Montreal, QC (PRWEB) December 2, 2009

All the talk about the H1N1 virus may leave you feeling a bit vulnerable, fearful or simply concerned about what you should be doing to stay healthy. These feelings, coupled with the pressure of the holiday season, can actually work to undermine your immune response.

This is why PeacefulLife developed its Immune System Primer Guided Meditation. Meditation will not prevent the flu. However, meditation puts the body in a deep state of relaxation and creates the ideal circumstances for the immune system (the body's internal pharmacy) to function at its optimal level and keep you healthy.

“I feel strongly about using meditation to stay healthy because I have personally experienced the immune strengthening benefits of meditation over the past 15 years,” said Jackie Roberge, PeacefulLife founder. “There is more and more medical research (see "References" below) to suggest that regular meditation can lead to health benefits, including helping to stimulate the body's ability to produce antibodies. But people tend to think meditation is difficult or only for serious yogis. I created the PeacefulLife website and guided meditations to help make meditation easier and more accessible for everyone.”

The 15-minute guided meditation combines deep relaxation, guided imagery and affirmations to help quiet the mind and allow the body’s natural intelligence to take over. There are no negative side effects and Jackie claims “listening to this meditation will likely produce an immediate sense of relaxation and peacefulness. You may also feel more confident knowing you are doing something proactive to enhance your immune response during this holiday season.”

To get to know Jackie and her approach:
Visit the http://www. peacefullife. ca (http://www. peacefullife. ca) online Meditation Store to purchase and download her guided meditation for $4.97. There is also a 10-minute kid’s meditation for $2.99.  Read her practical tips to enhance your immune system, then sign up to receive them weekly at PeacefulLife. ca.  Watch a 5-minute Youtube demo of the H1N1 Immune System Primer Meditation http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=130TVQep6Sk (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=130TVQep6Sk)  Follow Jackie's meditation advice and experiences (MeditationMama) on Tweeter at: http://twitter. com/MeditationMama (http://twitter. com/MeditationMama) The guided meditations (MP3 format) may be downloaded to any computer or portable device. Secure payments can be made through Paypal. 10% of sales of the H1N1 Meditation will be donated to Montreal's St. Mary's Hospital, Community Cancer Care Centre.

We know that meditation is not for everyone but if you feel touched by this approach we encourage you to follow your instincts and give it a try. We sincerely hope that, whether you feel called to meditate or not, you will be blessed with the tools and support that you need to feel strong, healthy and confident.

A final thought from Jackie "In meditation, as in life, be open to positive experiences and let the rest happen naturally and easily."

About PeacefulLife. ca

PeacefulLife. ca was founded by Jacqueline Roberge in 2007. Jackie is a meditation teacher and certified yoga instructor (Yoga Bliss Research and Training Institute). Jackie's has worked extensively with breast cancer patients including teaching yoga and meditation to breast cancer patients as part of a Doctorate research study.
