BioVeda Health and Wellness Center of Fayetteville Introduces Smoking Cessation Program

BioVeda Health and Wellness Center of Fayetteville Introduces Smoking Cessation Program

BioVeda Health and Wellness Centers utilize a multidimensional approach to achieve body balance, decrease pain and inflammation and help with issues such as smoking cessation

Fayetteville, AR (Vocus) November 29, 2010

BioVeda Health and Wellness Centers, LLC is pleased to announce the introduction of a new smoking cessation program now available at BioVeda Health and Wellness Center of Fayetteville. The center, headed by Dr. Jean Gibson, is successfully managing patient health through a holistic program which combines acupuncture, applied kinesiology and homeopathy to boost the immune system, promote natural detoxification and increase core level energy, often resulting in the alleviation of symptoms associated with such conditions as allergies, IBS, chronic fatigue, migraines, skin conditions, and general pain and inflammation.

This clinic utilizes meridian and energy stress assessment to measure the patient’s neurological reactions to specific environmental substances and to determine which substances are negatively impacting the patient. The substances that trigger a physiological stress spike, which is measured by the body’s impedance to each substance, are recorded and then presented back to the patient during low level light therapy. Light therapy conditions the autonomic nervous system to react normally to the otherwise harmless substances.

The system is designed to reduce physiological stress, not to be confused with anxiety, which not only weakens the immune system, but is also the trigger for food allergies, seasonal allergies, pet allergies, asthma, eczema, migraines, shingles, celiac and numerous other auto-immune related conditions. How these specific substances affect the stress levels placed on our immune system has a direct impact on the quality of our daily lives.

The smoking cessation program uses light therapy and homeopathic remedies to help a person quit, while reducing cravings, side effects, stress and irritability. It helps to remove harmful toxins known to build in the blood, tissue and cells through habitual use of tobacco products. It is faster than traditional methodologies, requiring 3 visits over a one week period, along with the use of a herbal remedy and homeopathic supplement.

“I brought this therapy to my practice because I believe in its ability to change lives. By reducing stress, the immune system strengthens, energy is built, helping you sleep better decrease pain and reduce inflammation to allow you to live a healthier and happier life! We’re especially excited to now have the opportunity to offer the smoking cessation program which is a must for every smoker serious about quitting,” states Dr. Gibson.

Kids Teaching Kids the Way to a Greener Planet

Kids Teaching Kids the Way to a Greener Planet

Just in time for Earth Day, children's author Jill Ammon Vanderwood is excited to introduce you to some very special families who live green and kids who really make a difference for the environment. In her new children's book, What's It Like, Living Green? Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live, kids as young as four up to seventeen are making green choices every day--and so can you.

Salt Lake City, Utah (PRWEB) March 25, 2009

There is a lot of talk these days about living green, but does anyone really live that way? In this non-fiction book, What's It Like, Living Green? Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live, you will meet contributing authors who live green, such as Ryan Hreljac from Canada, who started Ryan's Well Foundation, by providing clean water to a village school in Uganda, at the age of seven. Learn about green kids like Devon Green from Stewart, Florida who began Devon's Heal the World Recycling at the age of five; she is now joined by her sister Jessica. Together they give their time and efforts to raise money for community causes. The students from St. Benedict's School in Blue Island, IL, have made a commitment to live environmentally green lives. You will learn from families how to make green choices as simple as putting on a sweater rather than turning up the heat. Learn how easy it is to reduce, reuse and recycle, to create a healthy environment for the future.

This book is written for kids nine and up, with tips for families as well as school activities. A portion of the books proceeds will be donated to Edwin Watts Southwind (sustainable and accessible) Park and Erin's Pavilion, in Springfield, IL, and Hibiscus Children's Center, to help build a playground for abused and neglected children, in Jensen Beach, Florida.

Jill Ammon Vanderwood lives in West Valley City, Utah with her husband Bill. She is a mother and grandmother who wants to bring kids together to make a difference for the planet. Jill participated in the first Earth Day in Portland, Oregon. She is a public speaker, teaches workshops, and was the winner of the 2008 Writer of the Year Award, from the League of Utah Writers.

Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Spur Pain is Common, but Treatable

Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Spur Pain is Common, but Treatable

Every morning thousands of Americans step out of bed and experience excruciating pain in the heel or arch of their feet. As they hobble a few steps the pain begins to lessen, only to become worse later in the day. For these unfortunate souls, or "soles," plantar fasciitis and heel spurs have become a way of life! OurHealthNetwork. com's (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com) medical director explains what causes these painful conditions, and how to treat them (including how to treat them with custom-made orthotics).

Des Plaines, IL (PRWEB) September 11, 2008

Every morning thousands of Americans step out of bed and experience an excruciating pain in the heel or arch of their feet. As they hobble a few steps the pain begins to lessen, only to become worse later in the day. For these unfortunate souls, or "soles," plantar fasciitis and heel spurs have become a way of life!

Plantar fasciitis (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com/Conditions/FootAndAnkle/PlantarFasciitis. asp) is an inflammation of the thick band of fibrous tissue (fascia) on the bottom (plantar) of the foot, which supports the arch and extends from the heel to the toes. It is an overuse injury due to abnormal "wear and tear" of the plantar fascia. A heel spur (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com/Conditions/FootAndAnkle/HeelSpurs. asp) is a piece of calcium or bone that sticks out from the bottom of the heel bone and lies within the fibers of the plantar fascia. When walking, the spur digs into the plantar fascia and causes inflammation and small micro-tears in the plantar fascia. Both conditions produce almost identical symptoms, have similar causes, and are treated in the same manner.

"Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs are common problems seen in adults of all ages and walks of life," states Dr. Paul R. Kasdan, a prominent podiatrist who is the medical director of OurHealthNetwork. com (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com)). "Because these problems affect the weight-bearing surface of the foot, they are painful conditions that are frustrating to treat." Good sense dictates staying off the foot for a period of time and allowing it to heal. However even if one does this, Dr. Kasdan continues to explain, "Until the biomechanical cause of the plantar fasciitis and heel spurs are addressed, the pain would most certainly return."

Plantar Fasciitis and heel spurs are caused by abnormal stretching of the plantar fascia, frequently due to:
Pronation and supination: These biomechanical foot defects cause the foot to roll inward or outward at the ankle, excessively stretching the plantar fascia. Flat feet. High arched feet. Long periods of standing. Being over-weight

For immediate self-help treatments, Dr. Kasdan suggests:
Rest so as to limit the stretching of the plantar fascia. Comfortably apply ice to the heel and arch to reduce inflammation and pain. Wear a shoe with a higher heel to lessen the pressure on the bottom of the heel If a higher heel is not practical, use a heel lift pad. Stretch the plantar fascia to "loosen it." For two exercises Dr. Kasdan frequently recommends, visit http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com/Conditions/FootAndAnkle/PlantarFasciitis. asp (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com/Conditions/FootAndAnkle/PlantarFasciitis. asp).

"Because plantar fasciitis and heel spurs are frequently related to biomechanical foot defects, recurrences may occur until these problems are addressed," Dr. Kasdan states. To effectively treat and prevent plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, doctors frequently recommend using custom-made orthotics (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com/CustomOrthotics/index. asp). Custom-made orthotics are biomechanical devices that help prevent recurring attacks of these debilitating conditions. For more information about plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, and custom-made orthotics, visit http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com/CustomOrthotics (http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com/CustomOrthotics).

OurHealthNetwork. com makes custom-made orthotics from comfortable, shock-absorbent, durable "space age" materials that allow them to be thin enough to fit in dress shoes and other low-volume shoes. For more information about these painful conditions and the treatments doctors frequently recommend to care for them, please visit http://www. OurHealthNetwork. com (http://www. Kamut® Khorasan Wheat: The Wheat You Can Eat This Thanksgiving

Kamut® Khorasan Wheat: The Wheat You Can Eat This Thanksgiving

Today’s Wheat Now Bears Little Resemblance to its’ Ancient Predecessor, But There is Hope in the Fields of Montana.

Big Sandy, MT (Vocus) November 22, 2010

Kamut International wants America to know that there is a healthier alternative to conventional wheat this Thanksgiving. Wheat has thought to have been cultivated domestically at least since 9,000 B. C., It is the main ingredient of that most enduring and legendary of foods—our daily bread. Through thousands of years of agriculture, wheat has changed very little other than by methods of natural selection. However, during the last 100 years ancient wheat has been bred to be shorter, higher in yield, more disease resistant and better adapted to mechanized food processing. Today’s wheat now bears little resemblance to the pure stalk of nourishment it did in ancient times. As a result, many people today have sensitivities to modern wheat, ranging in severity from mild to debilitating. But according to Kamut International, the ancient grain KAMUT® brand khorasan wheat is, for many, ‘the wheat you can eat.’

“Real food made with KAMUT® brand wheat is a real solution for what ails us,” according to Bob Quinn, founder of Kamut International. “There is a vast difference between just feeding a nation, and actually nourishing a nation. At Kamut International, we are dedicated to uncovering the secrets to the nutritional powerhouse that is KAMUT® brand grain and its tremendous benefits for human health.”

Wanting to bring KAMUT® brand grain to a wider audience, Kamut International has been supportive of research that uncovers why some with wheat sensitivities can tolerate this ancient grain, as well discovering important additional health benefits of KAMUT® khorasan wheat. It has been reported that many consumers with wheat sensitivities are able to eat KAMUT® brand wheat. This was first found in 1988, with the introduction of pasta made with KAMUT® brand wheat. KAMUT® brand khorasan wheat now enjoys a reputation as being a whole grain that can be consumed by many who experience difficulties digesting and tolerating modern wheat. Research is beginning to yield some provocative findings as to why this may be the case.

Food Sensitivity:
For some who have wheat and other food sensitivities, KAMUT® brand khorasan wheat is one of the only grains they can tolerate eating. Research as well as anecdotal reports suggest that they do not suffer from the usual adverse reactions to modern durum, bread and soft wheat when ingesting KAMUT® brand products. To find firm reason for this, Kamut International continues to sponsor many research projects throughout the world. Three current studies are:
Digestibility of KAMUT® brand flour versus modern wheat flour in human diet  Allergenic characteristics of KAMUT® brand grain  Assessment of a KAMUT® brand grain based diet on children suffering from wheat allergy with chronic atopic dermatitis and/or gastrointestinal disorders According to The International Food Allergy Association, a 1991 clinical study conducted by the group to measure the allergenic reactivity of wheat sensitive individuals to KAMUT® brand wheat as compared to common wheat, showed that a majority of test subjects (70%) could tolerate KAMUT® brand grain. The research concluded that “For most people who are sensitive to wheat, products made with KAMUT® brand wheat can be an excellent substitute for modern wheat.”

As a result of these studies and an increased awareness of healthy, whole grains, naturopaths as well as other health care professionals frequently recommend KAMUT® brand products for those suffering with wheat sensitivities. KAMUT® brand khorasan has become a ‘darling’ of the natural health food world, considered a robust organically grown product that makes for a healthier diet. Top chefs are also putting KAMUT® brand products on their menus.

Antioxidant Capacity:
KAMUT® brand khorasan wheat has a very high content of antioxidant factors, the most prominent of which is selenium. Selenium is an essential micronutrient for animals and plays an important role in the functioning of the thyroid gland and reducing the risk of prostate cancer. Kamut International is sponsoring two research projects that examine KAMUT® brand khorasan’s higher-than-average antioxidant components:

Evaluation of the antioxidant protective effects of the dietary consumption of KAMUT® brand grain based food in experimental animals  Assessment of antioxidant capacity of KAMUT® brand grain products people genetically predisposed to oxidative stress The research is geared toward examination of the role diet has on the wellness of human beings, along with nutrigenomics—which explores the effects of nutrients on the genome, proteome and metabolome and nutrigenetics—which explains in detail the effect of genetic variation on the interaction between diet and disease.

Dietary Fiber:
Many of us are aware that dietary fiber plays an important role in health. According to preliminary tests, KAMUT® brand grain contains 2-2.5 more resistant starch than modern wheat. Resistant starch escapes the digestion in the stomach and small intestine, passes through the large intestine and is considered the ‘third type of dietary fiber’. Resistant starch increases fiber content without affecting texture, and increases the sweetness of taste without increasing caloric content in foods. It also helps burn fat and possibly leads to lower fat accumulation.

KAMUT®: The ‘High Energy Wheat’:
Compared to modern wheat, KAMUT® brand khorasan wheat is higher in protein and many minerals, especially selenium, zinc and magnesium. It has a higher percentage of lipids, which produce more energy in the body than carbohydrates. As a result, KAMUT® brand wheat can be described as “high energy wheat”. For additional nutritional information, see attached chart.

KAMUT® khorasan wheat is real food that goes beyond flavorful to an affordable delicious nutrition for all generations. It fosters an approach to eating that is more than just satisfying hunger. It is also about community, connection and nourishing the body. It includes great taste and organic agricultures attempt to farm in a sustainable manner. KAMUT® brand wheat, the wheat you can eat.

Cautionary Note: Those with serious allergies should take appropriate precautions, under a physician's direction, before trying KAMUT® brand wheat. Since KAMUT® brand wheat contains gluten, it’s not recommended for people suffering from celiac disease.

About KAMUT® Brand Khorasan Wheat

The mission of Kamut International is to promote organic agriculture and support organic farmers, to increase diversity of crops and diets, and to protect the heritage of a high quality, delicious ancient grain for the benefit of this and future generations. KAMUT® is a trademark of Kamut International and it stands for guaranteed standards that are verified by tests from every field.

Global Polyols Market to Reach 4.0 Billion Pounds by 2015, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc

Global Polyols Market to Reach 4.0 Billion Pounds by 2015, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on polyols markets. The global market for polyols is forecast to reach 4.0 billion pounds by the year 2015. Key factors driving market growth include growing application of polyols in various end-use sectors including Food & Confectionery and Pharmaceuticals. Further, higher demand for the chemical in developing markets including Asia-Pacific is expected to fuel market growth.

San Jose, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) January 13, 2011

Worldwide economic recession negatively impacted the polyols market during 2008 and 2009. Drop in demand for polyols in various end-use sectors including industrial applications, and food and confectionery among others noticeably reduced the overall market revenues. The decline in demand was more noticeable in the US and Europe. In addition, the market witnessed a robust rise in feedstock prices that further niggled the manufacturers. To withstand the sharp increase in feedstock prices, several manufacturers chose to hike product prices. Discouraging market conditions forced several manufacturers to downsize their production activities or temporarily halt operations. However, the normalcy in the economy is poised to extend the market with favorable prospects to recover and post growth in the ensuing years. The market is likely to be driven by rising demand mainly in food and confectionery and pharmaceuticals end-use segments.

Europe represents the largest regional market for polyols worldwide, as stated by the new market research report on Polyols. Rising demand for low-calorie foods is driving the growth of Polyols market in Europe. The health benefits offered by these chemicals continue to attract European manufacturers to utilize them in pharmaceutical and oral care products. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest growing market with consumption projected to grow at a compounded annual rate of more than 3.0% over the analysis period.

Industrial Applications constitutes the largest end-use segment of polyols. Application of polyols at industrial level is more or less matured in the world market. At industrial level, polyols are mainly used in the production of polyurethane. Food & Confectionery represents the fastest growing end-use segment.

Over the years, consumers across the world have become more concerned about nutritional and health benefits of food. In industrialized countries consumers are more oriented towards healthy lifestyle and rely more on low-calorie foods. This has entailed food producers to focus more on changing trends. Food producers are seeking alternatives that would abet in reducing the calorie content without compromising on taste and appearance. Further, food producers have assumed calorie reduction as an effective marketing argument for increasing sales. Of the several methods adopted to reduce the calorie content in food such as fat replacement, the substitution of commercial sugar with polyols has gained wide application. Though polyols behave similar to sugar in final products, they possess much lower calorie content. With features such as sweet taste and fewer calories than sugar, polyols are increasingly gaining popularity in the food & confectionery segment.

Major players profiled in the report include Arch Chemicals Inc., BASF Group, BASF Polyurethanes GmbH, Bayer AG, Cargill Inc., Chemtura Corp., Corn Products U. S., Daicel Chemical Industries Ltd., Dow Chemical Company, Huntsman Corp., Nanjing Hongbaoli Co. Ltd., Perstorp AB, Roquette Freres, Shell Chemicals Ltd., SINOPEC Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical Co. Ltd., and Stepan Co.

The research report titled “Polyols: A Global Strategic Business Report” announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a comprehensive review of the polyols markets, recession trends, current market trends, key growth drivers, product overview, recent product introductions, recent industry activity, and profiles of major/niche global as well as regional market participants. The report provides annual sales estimates and projections for polyols market for the years 2007 through 2015 for the following geographic markets – US, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Latin America. Key end-use segments analyzed include Industrial Applications, Food & Confectionery, Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Oral-Care Products, and Others. Also, a seven-year (2000-2006) historic analysis is provided for additional perspective.
