Addison Auto Receives Denver Pollution Prevention Partners Certification

Addison Auto Receives Denver Pollution Prevention Partners Certification

Addison Auto Repair & Body Shop is one of only three auto shops recently to receive the Denver P2 Partners certification from the Denver Department of Environmental Health.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 28, 2009

Addison Auto Repair & Body Shop is one of only three auto shops recently to receive the Denver P2 Partners certification from the Denver Department of Environmental Health. Denver P2 Partners is a voluntary and non-regulatory program that provides free educational outreach and technical assistance. The primary goals of the program are to increase participation and adoption of sustainable practices to minimize use of hazardous materials, improve energy efficiency and water conservation, and decrease the use of resources and generation of waste.

Denver Pollution Prevention Partners provides free, non-regulatory, and confidential technical assistance and advocacy on environmental matters to the private sector business community. The program employs a variety of outreach and assistance strategies to businesses to address pollution prevention alternatives and environmental best management practices aimed at reducing regulatory burden, understanding of environmental regulations, and minimizing environmental risk and liability. The program also provides assistance with coordination and referrals to interested businesses to “green” their operations to become more energy efficient, conserve natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit overall emissions to air, land and water.

First and foremost the program assists businesses with regulatory compliance in a non-threatening manner. The auto repair certification for environmental achievement aims to assist businesses with reductions in waste generation, safer chemical management practices, and efficient use of materials, water and energy. Less waste means lower disposal and operating costs.

Brenda Addison said, “The two things that are different about this program are the helpful nature of the program administrators and their assistance with information and resources. The certification program not only requires compliance with environmental regulations but more significantly encourages businesses to continually improve their environmental practices. Through our involvement with the program, Go Green Electric, Inc is currently monitoring our energy consumption and Groundwork Denver conducted an energy audit to make suggestions on better controlling our energy usage. After our involvement with this program, we’re considering sustainability and conservation when making decisions.”

Z Therapy Is The First In North Texas To Offer Revolutionary Treatment Option For Neck Pain Sufferers

Z Therapy Whiplash Treatment Center now offers a ground-breaking treatment option for victims of whiplash associated disorders (WAD). With the introduction of a multi-cervical unit (MCU) by BTE Technologies, Z Therapy is the first and only rehabilitation specialist in North Texas to offer this technology that is designed to quickly alleviate neck pain.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 21, 2009

Z Therapy Whiplash Treatment Center now offers a ground-breaking treatment option for victims of whiplash associated disorders (WAD). With the introduction of a multi-cervical unit (MCU) (http://www. ztherapy. org) by BTE Technologies, Z Therapy is the first and only rehabilitation specialist in North Texas to offer this technology that is designed to quickly alleviate neck pain.

Often overlooked through common tests such as CT scans, MRIs and x-rays, WAD affects soft muscle tissues in the neck. Measuring neck strength, flexibility and range of motion, the MCU can provide a statistical evaluation of the neck compared to normal results.

Targeting the source of neck pains, physical therapists like Brett Parish at Z Therapy, who is also a specialist on the MCU, can plot a personalized recovery plan that focuses on strengthening weak muscles and ultimately alleviating pain caused by strained tissue. While results vary, patients can begin to feel a difference in as little as a few weeks.

If not treated within the first 72 hours of injury, the pain can only worsen and extend treatment times and post future complications. That is why Z Therapy urges WAD victims to seek treatment immediately following injury.

"We've had patients come into our office with the belief that as a result of their accident, their pain is life-long and permanent, but it's exactly the opposite," said Zach Tallon, president of Z Therapy. "The MCU provides incredible results and instills hope for those who have lived with chronic neck pains."

Statistics show that more than 200,000 Texans are injured in an auto accident each year, causing medical and productivity costs to rise at an astronomical rate. Whether it's from an auto accident, fall or sports injury, WAD can make everyday tasks unbearable.

"Many patients spend thousands of dollars on traditional therapies alone with only temporary relief," Tallon said. "The MCU is a revolutionary step forward in the diagnosis and treatment of whiplash. It allows us to more accurately diagnose and treat each patient with long-term results."

For more information on the MCU and other treatment options for whiplash associated disorders, contact Z Therapy Whiplash Treatment Center at 214-361-8700 or by visiting Z Therapy Whiplash Treatment Center (http://www. ztherapy. org).

Stand Down for Veterans to take place March 31st and April 1st, 2008

NASA Education Stand Down is scheduled to take place March 31 and April 1, 2008 at YMCA Camp Algonquin in Algonquin, IL.

Crystal Lake, IL (PRWEB) March 18, 2008

Veterans who are newly discharged, displaced, disabled, homeless or unemployed are the focus of the Stand Down for Veterans, which will take place from 9:00 a. m. to 6:00 p. m. on March 31 through April 1, 2008 at YMCA Camp Algonquin, 1889 Cary Road, Algonquin. U. S Department of Labor's, Patrick Winfrey, Illinois Representative Linda Chapa LaVia, Illinois Senator Pam Althoff and McHenry County board member, from District 3, Mary Donner will address the veterans at an assembly to take place at noon on Monday, March 31 in the camp's dining hall.

"The individuals attending our stand down, coming for assistance are truly heroes. Each and every one of us owes them our gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy, worldwide. The reasons that they have reached the point in need of assistance, varies as widely as your own individuality. The people coming to the stand down for assistance are not only recent veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, but are also veterans that reach as far back as the Vietnam War, the Korean War and the code talkers of WWII," said John Blanchard, executive director of National Association of Systems Administrators Education Corporation (NASA Education), the sponsor of the event.

He added that the organization is expecting to provide services to at least 150 veterans. As NASA Education motto states, "Through 'help and healing and delivering on their hope', these individuals want to rejoin the mainstream of our productive society. They were once the most loyal, dedicated, responsible and professional employees that the federal government has ever had and they need to get that back."

Services will include medical screenings and information about other VA services by North Chicago VA Medical Center, employment services by Jeff Johnson, Andrew Michnowski and Reynaldo Infante of Veterans Employment Training Service (VETS)/Department of Labor through the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES), referrals for housing assistance and other services by Mike Iwanicki and Cheryl Kirsch of the McHenry County Veterans Assistance Commission and John Carr of the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission, legal counseling by Attorney Jeffrey Antonelli and Prairie State Legal Services, referrals for dental services by local dentists and the Illinois Foundation for Dentistry for the Handicapped, and referrals for eye care services by Northwest Eye Care of Algonquin. Veterans will be able to register for medical care at North Chicago VA Medical Center and Hines VA Medical Center at the Stand Down. Pat O'Dea Evans, COO from Paxem, Inc. of Cary, IL will be in attendance. Pat is a veteran and nurse who is trained to take applications for VA benefits.

Veteran service officers from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) and representatives of AMVETS, the VFW and various other veterans organizations will assist veterans in applying for VA disability claims and other VA benefits, state health insurance, and DD214s. Information about community services for homeless and low-income individuals will be provided by Susan Giannone, the constituent services advocate from Congresswoman Melissa Bean's Office, and Cheryl Schmid, the constituent services advocate from Congressman Donald Manzullo's Office. Scott Ottesen of The Vet Center will meet with veterans and distribute information about services. Also participating as a service provider will be Tammy Tope of TLS New Horizons, a transitional living facility for veterans in Hebron, and Derek Jeske of Volunteers of America of Illinois, Chicago.

NASA Education will accept applications for participation in Project Fresh Start, its comprehensive vocational rehabilitation and community reintegration program for U. S. veterans who are displaced, disabled, homeless or otherwise in transition. NASA Education will also accept applications for its new 32-bed transitional housing facility for homeless veterans. Local employers Liberating Solutions and Vet-Tek will be on-site to offer employment opportunities. NASA Education's own caseworker and substance abuse counselor will be performing intake evaluations for attendees.

"The individuals that come to the Stand Down are in need of a safe place to be, vocational reintegration training and an opportunity to be back on track where they should be, and that's exactly what we provide through our main program Project Fresh Start. Employers that wish to have dedicated, English speaking trainees that will show up to work and have a burning desire for a new career should strongly consider Project Fresh Start participants," said Blanchard. "I strongly encourage the service providers attending the stand down to fulfill their obligations to the veteran community by doing what they're charged do."

Veterans will also receive a number of amenities at the Stand Down, including free haircuts by SportClips Haircuts and Bladez Salon. Healing touch therapy and therapeutic massages will be available for all participants and through the careful coordination of Peggy Dickson, the stylists and therapists will be pleasantly ready to pamper our nation's heroes. Meals and the use of shower facilities will be provided on both days, and overnight shelter will be provided on March 31, 2008. Individuals and organizations from the community have donated new and gently used clothing and shoes, new underwear and socks, and toiletries.

Partial funding over the past two years, for the Stand Down has been provided through grants from the Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS)/U. S. Department of Labor, and the HelpAmerica Foundation. Donations are still needed in the form of cash, new and gently used clothes for men and women, baked goods or other desserts, toiletries, fast food gift certificates in small denominations and gift cards from supermarkets.

Transportation will be provided to the Stand Down for the veterans from various pick-up points throughout the community.

Don’t Become Another Diabetes Statistic, Seven Tips to Prevent Pre-Diabetics from Becoming Type 2 Diabetics By Dave Perry

Don’t Become Another Diabetes Statistic, Seven Tips to Prevent Pre-Diabetics from Becoming Type 2 Diabetics By Dave Perry

Seven Tips to prevent Pre-Diabetics from becoming Type 2 Diabetics. The American Diabetes Association says 41 million people in the United States are pre-diabetic, and the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services says a majority of these 41 million will develop full blown Type 2 diabetes. Avoid this trap.

Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) August 24, 2006

Diabetes statistics are ugly.

According to the American Diabetes Association, 41 million people in the United States are pre-diabetic.

And the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services says a majority of these 41 million will develop full blown Type 2 diabetes (and a wide range of related degenerative illnesses), within 10 years.

So how do you reduce your chances of becoming a Type 2 diabetic statistic?

Here are seven tips that can help:

#1 Be aware of your condition: Test your blood sugar level, blood pressure and urinary mircoalbumin to make sure they are at normal, healthy levels. Knowing that you are pre-diabetic is the starting point for minimizing the possibility of progressing to Type 2 status. Have your blood sugar checked, particularly if you suffer symptoms such as excess thirst, hunger, blurred vision, frequent urination, have a family history of diabetes or are obese

#2 Lose the pounds: Being overweight or obese is considered the number one trigger of Type 2 diabetes. If your Body Mass Index exceeds 25 (considered overweight) or 30 (obese), it’s time to lose the deadly, excess baggage. Cut back drastically on white rice, white bread, potatoes and high fructose corn syrup-sweetened soda drinks. Foods to eat include whole-grain bread and cereal, fruits and vegetables

#3 Get off the couch: Start exercising immediately. A sedentary lifestyle is a prime contributor to the evolution of Type 2 diabetes. By combining dieting with moderate exercise (described as 30 minutes per day of physical activity), a loss of 5-10% body weight results in a 58% reduction of diabetes.

#4 Drink a cup of coffee: A recent report by the Archives of Internal Medicine shows that a daily dose of Starbucks or other brands may help reduce diabetes. The Iowa Women’s Health Study found that those drinking coffee had a 22% less chance of incurring Type 2 diabetes. Decaffeinated versions had the most impact, with beneficial results cutting across all age and weight groups.

#5 Get off Anti-Depressants: A recent study called the Diabetes Prevention Program, researchers found that “taking any kind of anti-depressant boosted the risk of getting diabetes.” While the findings didn’t establish cause and effect, the study concluded that a clear association had been noted.

#6 Get the right amount of sleep: Researchers at the New England Research Institute (along with Yale School of Medicine researchers) found that too little or too much sleep increased the risk of diabetes. Six to eight hours of sleep was found to be most beneficial. Those sleeping less than or more than this amount were twice as likely to develop diabetes.

#7 Take Magnesium: A study conducted at Harvard showed that mineral magnesium had a protective effect against diabetes, improving insulin sensitivity. Sources for magnesium include whole grain bread and supplementation.

There is no cure for diabetes. But by following these 7 tips, Pre-Diabetics can beat the odds of incurring Type 2 problems.
