Healing the Nightingales, a New Book Written by Jackie Mulanax RN, has Been Released by LuLu Publishing

Jackie Mulanax's new book, Healing the Nightingales, examines the issue of "burn out" in the nursing profession. She compares the history of Florence Nightingale's own traumas and subsequent healing to the healing of today's nurses who are overwhelmed by caregiving.

Vero Beach, FL (PRWEB) April 7, 2006

Jackie Mulanax's new book, Healing the Nightingales, is now available through LuLu Publishing. The book explores Florence Nightingale's "healing" from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Jackie cites examples in her own practice of counseling healers who have succumbed to stresses and who have "burned out". She also speaks to over three decades of her own endeavors in the field of nursing, and lessons learned that she would like to pass along to today's nurses. Florence Nightingale's healing has an impact on all of those who have chosen the profession of nursing.

About author

Jackie Mulanax is a nurse psychotherapist living in Vero Beach, Florida. She has been a nurse (BSN) for more than 30 years and a Counselor (MA) for more than 25 years. She combines the two professions into one, and also adds her Certification in Healing Touch Therapy, Hypnosis, and Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse, to provide "energetic healing" to her clients.

From the Introduction

"It is my wish that the insights offered in the following pages will be a preventative medicine for the Nightingales just flying from the nest, a healing salve to be used by wounded Nightingales and rehabilitation therapy for those Nightingales with tattered wings to make them stronger."

Spotlight on Acne

Spotlight on Acne

Brighter skin ahead as PDT laser gets the all clear

LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) August 15, 2004

Finally the future may be clearer for thousands of teens and adults plagued by acne. Medical professionals are giving Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) the "all clear" sign as an alternative treatment to oral medications (including antibiotics and Accutane) for acne sufferers. PDT involves the application of a light sensitizing vitamin A derivative gel to the skin of the face or other involved area, followed by treatment of the area with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). The wavelength of the light is designed to pass into sensitized skin, kill acne bacteria and slow down overactive sebaceous (oil) glands. These are the two critical goals of any successful acne therapy treatment.

"There are several reasons for the increased interest in light treatments for acne," said Dr. Alexander Rivkin, one of a handul of skin care experts treating acne with PDT therapy at his Westwood, California practice. "Many doctors and patients are demanding alternatives to Accutane and oral antibiotics because of the possible risks," said Rivkin. New FDA restrictions on Accutane are now in full force following ineffective guidelines which didn't do enough to educate patients and physicians about the risks of birth defects in pregnent women as well as possible severe psychiatric side effects which, in some recently publicized instances, led to patient suicides. These are in addition to the side effects that every Accutane patient experiences - dry skin, chapped lips, bloody noses, headaches, achy bones and sometimes hair loss. Patient and physician concern is rising after the publication of studies linking the chronic use of antibiotics to an increased risk of breast cancer.

Meanwhile, skin care experts are finding that even the most severe forms of acne are responding amazingly well to light treatment and PDT. These experts, including Dr. Rivkin, are using light based acne therapy and PDT as the cornerstone to effective acne treatment. There are many laser treatments being used by physicians for a variety of skin corrections. While the promise of some laser treatments, "is somewhat exaggerated" according to Rivkin, he (Rivkin) stands by PDT. "I am seeing extremely impressive results with my acne patients. Their skin is staying clear for several years after treatment, and that's enough time so that, for a good number of people, the acne does not recur." said Rivkin. "Unlike Accutane, there are no serious side effects to worry about - no monthly blood tests for pregnancy or liver damage, no prolonged discomfort. Yet the efficacy is very similar." said Rivkin.

One of RivkinÂ’s patients, scarred physically and emotionally by the continuation of her acne outbreaks turned to PDT after seven years of oral antibiotic treatments including tetracycline. "The results are far and away beyond my expectations, said Rivkin. The patientÂ’s acne has cleared and we are also seeing improvement in some of her acne scars." Rivkin believes, "Lasers will continue to play an increasingly important role in the treatment of acne."

Most everyoneÂ’s skin tolerates PDT. There is no downtime, no pain and no blisters or burns. Treatments vary from patient to patient depending on the severity of acne, but are usually 30 minutes in length and are given from twice weekly to once every month. Some health insurance companies even cover the treatment course, but if not, the cost ranges from $100 to $400 per treatment.

Your Beautiful Baby--Understanding Early Childhood Development

Your Beautiful Baby--Understanding Early Childhood Development

Useful and valuable information about the developmental stages of your new baby can be found at this website. The more thoroughly you can understand how your child behaves and why, the more likely it is that you can provide the support and affection that is essential in raising a child with healthy self-esteem and the knowledge that s/he is loved.

(PRWEB) March 20, 2005

Your car came with one. Your TV has one. Even your cell phone has one. . . but when you have a little bundle of joy entering your life, an instruction manual does not come with the delivery. Children are a special gift--full of love, adventure, hope and joy. Whether this is your first child or you are an experienced parent, BabyByway. com has important, free advice and information on all aspects of child-raising.

Learning about the developmental stages of children and what can be expected in each stage is vitally important to all parents. Since each baby is a unique individual with a distinctive personality, your child's development may vary significantly from what is considered normal. But there are some guidelines and certain behaviors that are fairly typical of all children.

With hundreds of valuable resources and countless tips and suggestions concerning all aspects of raising a baby, this site is for you. Dedicated entirely to the special topic of babies and organized in an easy-to-use format, http://wwww. BabyByway. com (http://wwww. BabyByway. com) can be the instruction manual you need to raise a happy, healthy child.

The primary task of a baby's first year is to develop a sense of trust in the world and come to view it as a place that is predictable and reliable. Infants accomplish this by forming a close attachment to the care givers. During the very earliest months, infants have an inborn ability to "bond" to ensure their survival. They express it through sucking, feeding, smiling and cooing. Ideally, these behaviors stimulate a loving response from the parents (or caretakers) who give the baby the much needed and desired personal attention. These pleasant interactions and the consistent attention form the parent-child bond and lay the foundaton for child's sense of trust.

During this period, a consistently comforting and nurturing environment makes a child feel secure. The most valuable thing you can do at this point in your child's life, is to show, through attention and affection, that you love your child and that your child can depend on you to be there. If you generally respond to your child's cries, he/she will learn trust. If you hug, caress and smile at your child, he/she will feel contentment.

Although the need for attachment continues for many years, the process of separation also begins during the first year of a child's life. A major milestone is reached when children learn to separate from the parents by crawling and then by walking. Psychological separation begins as well: babies start, non-verbally, to express their own desires and opinions. Many child development experts view early childhood as a series of alternating attachment and separation phases that help to establish the child as an independent person who can relate happily to others.

Toddlers continue the attachment--separation cycle in more sophisticated ways during the second year. The "terrible twos" arrive with your child sometimes protesting violently when you must leave them. Anxiety about separating from you heightens, and they may express anger. During this stage, when you must both guide and protect your child,, you become a "no" sayer. Your child becomes frustrated and shows it in new ways. Helpless crying comes first, and later your child may exhibit aggressive behavior by hitting, pushing, biting or throwing things.

Such behavior often frightens and puzzles parents, who wonder if the child is normal. It should help you to know that this type of behavior is normal for toddlers, who have deep conflicting wishes about their individuality ("me do it myself"), and their anxiety about separating from you.

Handling the tantrums, setting limits, and encouraging language development and the expression of feelings consume much of your time and patience. They will grow out of these stages. Welcome to parenthood!

Dunn&Co. wins First Watch account

Following an agency review, the Bradenton-based restaurant chain chooses Dunn&Co., whose first projects will launch late this spring.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) May 3, 2006

Dunn&Co., a full-service marketing and advertising agency based in Tampa, Fla., has won a review of the advertising account of First Watch Restaurants, Inc., agency President Troy Dunn said today.

Dunn&Co.’s initial work for First Watch should be completed by late spring, Dunn said. The agency search was conducted by Growth Partners, a marketing and business development consulting firm focused on the restaurant industry, in Denver, Colorado.

Kevin Hall, vice president of brand for First Watch, said the company was impressed with Dunn&Co.’s creativity, strategic abilities, and by the agency’s understanding of First Watch’s business.

“First Watch is on a rapid growth path and we need to pursue several initiatives concurrently,” Hall said. “After just a single meeting, it was clear to us that Dunn&Co. had both the strategic and creative firepower we need.”

“We were very impressed with their capabilities and knowledge of our business during the review, and we’re excited about what they will be able to deliver for First Watch.”

Dunn said Dunn&Co. will handle all creative and media duties for First Watch, initially including direct mail, Internet advertising, restaurant promotions and print ads in consumer publications.

First Watch does not disclose its advertising budget, but Hall said it plans to significantly increase marketing investments over previous years.

First Watch is the country’s largest privately owned breakfast-brunch-lunch restaurant company. It operates 56 restaurants in nine states. The company plans to open 40 new restaurants over the next two years.

“It’s an exciting time for our company,” said First Watch President Ken Pendery. “The steady growth is a direct result of hard work and dedicated operators who are consistently focused on providing great food and great service to our guests.”

A privately held company, First Watch was founded in 1983 in California. According to Hall, sales in 2005 were $51 million, and 2006 sales are projected to reach $65 million.
