Ventura, CA (PRWEB) December 5, 2005

Just in time for evening temperature dips, the Family Review Center highly recommends the ‘SIDS-SAFER’ KinderKozy™ Sleep Sack from BABY EMPORIO, LLC. (www. babyemporio. com). The baby product reviewer states that when clothing baby in the ultra-soft-fleece, zippered sleep sack there is, “No need for heavy blankets when using this one. It will fulfill the purpose of keeping baby warm with no loose blankets in the crib.”

With winter nipping, many parents and caregivers can’t resist the urge to overstuff baby’s cribs with blankets, quilts, pillows and other soft products. The First Candle/SIDS Alliance recommends that parents “remove all soft fluffy or loose bedding and other objects from your baby’s sleep area. The national nonprofit health organization encourages the use of, “‘wearable blankets’ and other type sleepers, instead of loose blankets in your baby’s cribs.”

“Gifts Babies Love” defines the inventory offered by Ventura-County based infant and toddler gifts supplier BABY EMPORIO, LLC and “I sleep on my back in my KinderKozy™ Sleep Sack!” reminds parents to follow SIDS-SAFER guidelines when putting baby down at night. Company founder, Clasina Valkenberg, says, “We are happy to provide a product which is SIDS-SAFER. I encourage parents to visit First Candle/SIDS Alliance web site at http://sidsalliance. org/newparents/np_reduce_safe. html (http://sidsalliance. org/newparents/np_reduce_safe. html) to view the organization’s “Safe Infant Bedding” checklist, or call the First Candle/SIDS Alliance at (800) 221-7437 for more information.

The KinderKozy™ Sleep Sack -- which conveniently adjusts for babies aged 3-9 months -- has mom-friendly features including a long bidirectional zipper that allows for easy diapering and a protective flap that keeps the zipper from touching baby’s skin. BABY EMPORIO, LLC’s full product line of European-styled baby gifts can be purchased online at www. babyemporio. com and baby specialty stores across the US, Canada and Europe.

Comprehensive Guide on How to Talk to Aging Parents Offered Free from Home Instead Senior Care, Torrance

Comprehensive Guide on How to Talk to Aging Parents Offered Free from Home Instead Senior Care, Torrance

Adult children of aging parents now have a wealth of free resources to help them communicate with their parents on important issues. The 40-70 Rule is a guide available from Home Instead Senior Care, Torrance, for both generations. It is designed to help adult children begin to address difficult issues with their parents such as driving, finances and independence. It also has tips for seniors on how to communicate more effectively with their boomer children.

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) May 21, 2009

Adult children should not wait until a near miss or an outright tragedy before they talk to dad about giving up his car keys. But how do they bring up such a touchy subject? Home Instead Senior Care, Torrance has the answer with the "40-70 Rule," a wealth of expert communication resources for Baby Boomers and their parents (www.4070talk. com).

"The '40-70 Rule' means that if you're 40, or your parents are 70, it's time to start the conversation about some of these difficult topics," explained Denise de Cock, RN, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care Torrance office, which serves seniors from San Pedro to Marina del Rey (www. homeinstead. com/286 (http://www. homeinstead. com/286)). The campaign is designed to help adult children begin to address difficult issues with their parents such as driving, finances, independence and even romance.

The "40-70" Rule is based on research conducted in the U. S. and Canada by Home Instead Senior Care, which revealed that nearly one-third of adults in the U. S. have a major communication obstacle with their parents that stems from continuation of the parent-child role. (www. boomerproject. com)*

"Because of this obstacle, adult children may wait until an emergency or crisis happens before talking to parents," said de Cock. "Our goal with the '40-70' campaign is to provide practical ways for adult children to talk to their parents now. We've seen lack of communication lead to misuse of medications, self-neglect and accidents."

Boomers and their parents can get a free 14-page booklet of conversation starters for sensitive senior-care subjects from the Torrance office of Home Instead Senior Care. The booklet was compiled with the input of Jake Harwood, Ph. D., national author and communication professor from the University of Arizona who is the former director of the school's Graduate Program in Gerontology.

Starting conversations early is particularly important for end-of-life issues such as power of attorney and wills, said Harwood, author of "Understanding Communication and Aging (www. amazon. com). Other topics may need to be addressed as well, he said. "For driving issues, you could say, 'Hey Dad, Fred from next door called to tell me about your accident. What happened?'" Harwood said. "Then take the opportunity to drive with your parent. Even a short drive would help you gauge your dad's skills and deficits."

Such conversations should be broached with care, added de Cock. "It's crucial to begin these conversations assuming 'if' rather than 'when.' Many older adults continue to drive safely as they age, so personal circumstances should determine how much discussion needs to occur," she said.

The Home Instead Senior Care survey found that Boomers have the most difficulty talking with their parents about independence issues, such as continuing to live in their own home, and that their parent's desire to remain independent makes it challenging to address such sensitive issues as health (28 percent) and money (21 percent). The fact that many of these families are still in a parent-child rather than a peer-to-peer role makes the conversations even more difficult.

"It takes two to tango," DeCock explains. "If an adult child always turns first to the parent in times of trouble, then they can expect the parent to continue acting out the parenting role."

"On the other hand, if the child becomes truly independent and stops these behaviors, then the parent may be more likely to relinquish the parent role," she said. "So adult children should be aware of the sorts of behaviors they are engaging in, which may cause their parents to act 'parentally.'"

The bottom line is to keep talking, because the parent-child conversation can be so important in helping seniors adapt to changing life circumstances. Good communication also is vital to helping families know when it's time to seek additional resources. "Oftentimes both adult children and their loved ones can benefit from outside help, such as a professional caregiver," said de Cock. "But the only way that will happen is if they can talk about it."

To Select the Best Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Seniors Need Help from Their Web-Savvy Boomer Children

To Select the Best Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Seniors Need Help from Their Web-Savvy Boomer Children

The Annual Election Period for the Medicare Prescription Drug Program runs November 15th - December 31st. Unfortunately, many seniors are still confused about choosing a plan. Eldercare expert provides the solution.

San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) November 9, 2007

The second Annual Election Period for the Medicare Prescription Drug Program is here. The complexity of the program, however, has many seniors still confused and likely to be paying more for their drugs than they have to. Eldercare advisor Esther Koch (http://www. encoremgmt. com/estherkoch. html), who is also a Medicare Aging Network Partner with the Administration on Aging and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, has the solution.

"The answer to how to select a stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (http://www. encoremgmt. com/medicarerx/whatyouneedtoknow. html) is easier than most people think," says Koch. "The solution is for web-savvy Boomers to help their parents compare plan choices by using the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder (http://www. encoremgmt. com/medicarerx/drugplanfinder. html) at www. medicare. gov." Koch adds, "This is an opportunity for Boomers to be there for their parents. They need you!"

Seniors who are in a stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, or have no prescription drug coverage, are the ones who need to take action now and will need to review plan offerings annually. Even if a senior's drugs don't change, it's likely that the plan's formulary of drugs covered and pricing will. "I haven't yet had a client whose optimum plan choice remained the same each year," states Koch.

For seniors with retiree drug coverage there is probably nothing to do as long as the senior received notification that the drug coverage is classified as creditable. Seniors with Medicare Advantage health plans that include prescription drugs are also already covered. The best help for seniors on government assistance programs is available through their State Health Insurance Assistance Program (http://www. medicare. gov/contacts/static/allStateContacts/asp).

"Choosing a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan is based on different selection criteria than for most insurance," highlights Koch. What's most important is the total estimated annual cost which is driven by a combination of factors including: whether the plan's formulary covers all of a senior's drugs; individual drug classification and pricing; monthly premium; deductible amount; and whether doughnut hole coverage is included. A high premium plan does not necessarily equate to a better option for a senior.

MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN FINDER
The Government has developed an incredibly powerful search tool to compare drug plan options. "To make an informed decision on a stand-alone plan use the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder at www. medicare. gov. It is impossible to manually review the 50-plus plan options that most people have," says Koch.

By entering their parent's zip code and drug name, dosage and 30-day supply, Boomers can obtain a prioritized list of drug plan options sorted from least expensive to most expensive plan based on total estimated annual costs including premiums, deductibles, copays and coinsurance. The five least expensive plans will show up initially. You can display all plans, do side-by-side comparisons of 3 plans and drill down to specific information on how to lower drug costs. The drug list can even be saved for later reference.

Total costs vary widely by plan. Koch emphasizes, "If you view all plans and compare the estimated annual cost of the first and last plan listed you will see just how widely drug costs can vary for your parent. And remember, this is for the same set of drugs." Koch continues, "Think of this as getting a list of the total cost of all of your holiday gifts if the same gifts were purchased from some 50 different retailers. You should be most interested in the least expensive plans."

Once you have reviewed the options and decided on a plan, it is best to enroll on the plan provider's website. It is also recommended to enroll during the beginning of the election period to ensure that coverage data is available to your pharmacy by January 1st.

The Magic Bullet for Weight Loss is Finally Here, by Millennium Health Supplements (Canada) Inc

The Magic Bullet for Weight Loss is Finally Here, by Millennium Health Supplements (Canada) Inc.

Possibly the safest, most effective and powerful appetite suppressant in history with no side effects or stimulants and no fillers or additives.

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) June 28, 2004

UPDATE - Millennium Health Supplements (Canada) Inc. introduced the North American market to Hoodia Gordonii in February 2004, the all-nature appetite suppressing cacti/succulent from South Africa with no known side effects and no stimulants.

Hoodia Gordonii is taking the multi-billion dollar diet industry by storm after it was introduced by MHSCI, who is reporting strong sales for not only the capsules but for industry raw material as well. But be aware, there are a lot of bad hoodia products available on the net and in retail stores. If you are purchasing Hoodia Gordonii capsules for under $30.00/bottle USD it is unlikely to be pure hoodia. Right now the raw material price for Pure Hoodia Gordonii is $350.00/kg USD depending on quantity. You might be safe if you ask for a purity certificate to be provided with the initial order.

Hoodia Gordonii grows in the high deserts of the Kalahari Desert region of South Africa and although there are other species of Hoodia, the Gordonii is the only one that contains the all-natural appetite suppressant. MHSCI hoodia is guaranteed 100% pure South African material with no fillers or additives.

Hoodia works by mimicking the effect glucose has on the nerve cells in the brain fooling the body into believing it is full, even when it is not. Results of human clinical trials in Britain suggest that hoodia could reduce the appetite by up to 2,000 calories per day.

While many people feel the appetite suppressant kicking in sometimes within 20 minutes of ingestion, it is felt that the general population responds to hoodia within 1 – 2 weeks of starting the program. Some morbidly obese people (more than double their normal weight), who describe themselves as eating machines since childhood, say that although they felt the appetite suppressant kicking in after 2 – 3 weeks, it took a few weeks before they realized their interest in food was significantly decreasing, thereby helping to change life long eating habits.

In an interview with ABCNEWS, a spokesman for the San people who live in the Kalahari Desert, Andries Steenkamp says, "I learned how to eat it from my forefathers. It is my food, my water and also a medicine for me. Hoodia stops hunger and also treats sickness," Steenkamp told ABCNEWS. "We San use the plant during hunting to fight off the pain of hunger and thirst."

According to the WHO, more than 1 billion people around the world are overweight with 300 million of them clinically or morbidly obese. Reports say that over the next 5 years, deaths related to obesity will increase by 20% in keeping with a reported 20% increase in plus-sized coffins sales since 1999 in the USA.

Hoodia Gordonii is now available in 400mg capsules, 60 per bottle by mail order or in bulk for the wholesale/manufacturing market.

Healthcare Advocate Launches Website Targeting the Patient Community

Healthcare Advocate Launches Website Targeting the Patient Community

The Barking Zebra envisions becoming the go-to site for the patient community as a source of information on how to become an empowered and educated patient while providing links to authentic medical research sites, and an opportunity to shop for custom awareness and medical ID jewelry.

Reading, PA (PRWEB) September 17, 2010

For patient advocate Suzi Garber, a Philadelphia native, two cancer diagnoses and heart disease changed her retirement dream of having a boutique shopping site. Her recently launched site, The Barking Zebra, www. barkingzebra. net, instead sells medical IDs, awareness and inspirational jewelry, gifts for the patient and publishes a newsletter called The Practical Patient which is targeted towards educating and empowering patients to become equal partners in their healthcare. The website donates a portion of its Zebra Room sales to cancer research with an emphasis on neuroendocrine tumors (a rare cancer). Garber describes the site as a place you can "shop for knowledge while buying a gift."

The site’s name, The Barking Zebra, www. barkingzebra. net, was conceived after Garber heard a recording of a herd of zebras - they actually do bark. Although the site’s name is whimsical, its inventory is geared to those who live with a chronic disease, their advocates, and other patients who have special needs. Its message is for everyone: Educate and enable yourself to become an equal partner in your own healthcare which is the basic premise of the e-Patient movement.

The Barking Zebra showcases a curated collection of many jewelry items beyond the traditional styles of awareness and medical ID pieces, but Garber felt she wanted to do more for the community. As a support group founder and leader, patient advocate and liaison, and former nonprofit marketing executive, Garber, a chronically ill patient herself, realizes the importance of awareness and grass roots advocacy, so she writes a monthly newsletter “The Practical Patient”, www. barkingzebra. net/practicalpatient. asp (http://www. barkingzebra. net/practicalpatient. asp), whose goal is to provide resources to educate, equip, engage, and enable patients to navigate the healthcare system alongside their physicians as equal partners.

Garber also realized that a number of nonprofits have missions that preclude selling their own awareness items, or don’t have adequate staff resources to allocate beyond mission-related tasks. As a result she has designed a marketing program exclusively for nonprofits. Each nonprofit will have its own “branded” subdomain on the Barking Zebra site with a few select awareness items for sale. Barking Zebra handles the marketing and online sales. Its first partnership will be with the Patients’ Project, a patient advocacy and educational nonprofit. By turning its focus to the patient community, the Barking Zebra’s goal is to become an innovative go-to site for informational resources, services, and shopping for the patient community.
