Change the present, change a future!

Change the present, change a future!

Oxfam Ireland Unwrapped has got Turkeys voting for Christmas!

(PRWEB) November 12, 2010

Q: What do 786 cows, 1,023 sunflowers, 1,284 piglets, 1,465 cooking stoves and 1,842 footballs all have in common?

A: During 2010 they helped thousands of people in countries such as Kenya, Rwanda and Zimbabwe to have a better life!

By choosing a Christmas gift or present idea like an Oxfam Northern Ireland Unwrapped gift, when you change the present you really do change a future. Choosing an Unwrapped gift like a Cow or a Cooking stove means you are giving someone living in poverty in the developing world the chance of a better life.

The Unwrapped gift goes to a family or a community in the developing world who needs it most in the countries where Oxfam Northern Ireland works. So when you choose an Unwrapped gift you make a real difference to people’s lives. You also receive a gift card and fridge magnet, which can be sent to friends or family as the perfect Christmas present.

This year the Oxfam Northern Ireland Unwrapped range of gifts has increased again, with eight fantastic new gifts including: 3 bags of seeds (£6), Turkey (£16), Feed a family (£18), Mum and baby (£28), Teach a teacher (£36), Pair of rabbits (£20), Emergency kit for a family (£31) and, new and exclusive to the Unwrapped range of gifts in 2010, the Unwrapped Gift Voucher.

The Turkey gift is another new Unwrapped gift for 2010 and a fantastic gift idea this Christmas. Unwrapped Turkeys are a breed apart. These industrious avian types are only getting started during the festive season, because for the recipient they represent a valuable source of breeding stock as well as a source of nutrient rich manure to help crops grow. These Turkeys may not fly but for the recipient they help crop yield go through the roof.

The Mum and baby gift is new to the Unwrapped range in 2010 and an ideal gift for Mums, Dads and even babies. Pregnant mothers and new mums living with HIV and AIDS receive counselling and testing, pre - and post natal care, access to medicines, support and advice to minimise the risk of transmitting the disease to their baby. Every baby deserves to be happy and healthy and this gift helps that happen.

The Emergency kit for a family gift is given to families to help them in the aftermath of emergencies such as the Haiti earthquake of January 2010. The kit contains 2 towels, 2 tubes of toothpaste, 8 bars of soap, 8 bars of laundry soap, 4 toothbrushes, 2 hairbrushes, 12 packets shampoo, 40 sanitary napkins, 4 sets of bowls, plates, knives, forks, spoons and large cups. Local people are paid to assemble the kits, which helps to stimulate the local economy. The kits help to maintain hygiene, in order to prevent the outbreak of disease and also preserve a person’s dignity in times of adversity.

Teachers are always important, they inform and educate us, but with Unwrapped they can do even more! The Teach a teacher gift provides training on HIV and AIDS awareness and education in developing country school health clubs. It encourages them to try new teaching techniques and teaches them about specific techniques for helping orphans and vulnerable children; so with this gift teachers become life-savers too.

Making a welcome return to the Oxfam Northern Ireland Unwrapped range of gifts this year is the goat gift and the pair of goats gift. Since receiving his goat gift Fred Kabambe from Malawi is a very happy man. Having received a goat thanks to Oxfam Northern Ireland’s Unwrapped shoppers he is now able to make proper compost manure that enables him to grow a new early-maturing, high-yielding type of maize. According to Fred, “Now I can have food throughout the year and a source of income too”. The eight bags of maize Fred grew last year earned him enough income to put a tin roof on his house.

Between the new catalogue and online options there are now 33 gift and present ideas to choose from in the Unwrapped range. Prices start from just £6 for the 3 bags of seeds gift, up to €2,496 to provide fresh clean drinking water to an entire community in countries such as Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. So there is a gift to suit any budget and every occasion.

The Oxfam Northern Ireland Unwrapped gift range make not only the perfect Christmas present but they are also an unusual and unique gift idea for birthdays. Oftentimes finding a gift for the man in your life or indeed an original wedding present can be difficult but Unwrapped gift ideas will make your choice an easy one this year. Likewise if you have friends or family abroad this Christmas, send the perfect Irish gift from Oxfam Ireland.

Other gifts include Flock of chicks (£10), Piglets (£23), Cow (£80), Cooking stove (£12), School books (£14), Fruit and veg garden (£38). 2010 also sees the return of an old favourite, the Goat gift (£30), or for the romantics among you a Goat couple gift (£60); every single gift is tailor-made to empower people and improve the lives of people and communities in Africa.

What’s Unique about Oxfam Unwrapped?

1) Gift Voucher – You choose the amount, as much as you like and the money goes to wherever Oxfam and our overseas partner organisations need it most.

2) All our Unwrapped gifts are real items chosen by people we work with to help them overcome poverty.

Enduring the Bird Flu ... Be Aware of the Danger that it Brings With It, A Lot of People Let It In

Enduring the Bird Flu... Be Aware of the Danger that it Brings With It, A Lot of People Let It In...

It may be a while when flu is eradicated from our planet completely. Till then the best defense against it is to be cautious. And to do that, follow these simple but effective guidelines and stay healthy.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) April 15, 2006

Each year, there is always a new wave of flu that says hello at the beginning of fall. And though everyone is aware of the danger that it brings with it, a lot of people let it in. The symptoms of bird flu normally depend on the virus which has caused the infection. These symptoms are usually referred to as “flu symptoms". In addition, people infected with influenza complain of moderate or severe malaise and fatigue. Illness can last for up to 1-2 weeks, although fever generally lasts only 3-8 days. In that context, here we will discuss how to keep Bird flu at bay with simple practices and methodologies.

Hygiene

Proper hygiene is probably the only way to keep all kinds of infections and diseases out. Under this ambit’ eating clean food, washing hands regularly and drinking clean water take top spots.

Proper Eating Habits

Eating has a direct affect on the well being of a person. One wrong choice of stale or infected food and the body can go into turmoil. The same applies for clean water. And with regards to washing hands regularly, especially during the ‘flu season’, one can easily pick up the cold and flu germs from things other people have touched. That is why washing hands regularly with warm water and soap becomes essential to keep germs from entering the system. Do not eat raw or half cooked chicken or poultry meat. It is always advised to cook or boil eggs thoroughly at 70 degree centigrade before having them as at this temperature viruses get killed.

Stay away from infected people.

Avian Flu is a very contagious disease. Therefore, it is mandatory to stay away from people who are infected in order to reduce the risk of getting infected. On that line, it is quite logical to avoid badly maintained poultry, crowded places and enclosed areas during the flu season.

Get vaccinated

Getting vaccinated is a good way to keep Bird flu at a distance. Through vaccination, the body stays prepared to fight the incoming threat. Though most healthy people don’t need to get vaccinated for flu, however, old people, young children and those suffering from certain health conditions like diabetes, chronic heart and lung problems and kidney problems should seriously consider getting vaccinated.

Buy Tamiflu

Sometimes even with all the precautionary measures taken, it is possible to get infected. Influenza virus is shed through saliva, nasal secretions and feces by the infected birds. Susceptible birds coming in contact with the contaminated excretion or secretion become immediately affected. Usually badly maintained poultry and unhygienic condition in the cages etc. are a primal source of this infection. During such an event, drugs like Tamiflu, oseltamivir phosphate are very useful to fight off the disease from the system. The USP of Tamiflu is that it just doesn’t curb the symptoms, but its cures the body of the germs.

NACDS RxIMPACT "Hill Day" Features More Advocates Increased Focus on Medication Adherence

NACDS RxIMPACT "Hill Day" Features More Advocates Increased Focus on Medication Adherence

Nearly 70% more participants emphasize pharmacy’s ability to help improve lives, reduce healthcare costs

Washington, D. C. (Vocus) March 10, 2010

The Second Annual NACDS (http://www. NACDS. org) RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill will deliver a powerful message about the link between pharmacy services and the cost savings and health improvements that result when patients take their medications as prescribed. The strength of the message will be bolstered by increased participation in the event, including more total attendees and more pharmacists from more states, more state pharmacy associations and more pharmacy schools. The event will be held March 10 and 11 in Washington, D. C.

“Last year, NACDS made a strong statement with this event that pharmacy is committed to telling its story as the face of neighborhood healthcare, and that pharmacy is determined to do what it takes to deserve victories in the public policy arena,” said NACDS President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “The success stories of those who pioneered the event in 2009, combined with additional victories for the NACDS pro-patient, pro-pharmacy agenda, have generated tremendous enthusiasm for this program in 2010.”

The increase in momentum for the Second Annual NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill includes:
a 67% increase in attendees (from 150 to 250); a 33% increase in states represented (from 27 to 36); a 150% increase in state pharmacy associations (from 10 to 25); and a 700% increase in pharmacy schools represented (from 2 to 16). Participants in the event will emphasize pharmacy’s ability to help reduce the estimated $290 billion in annual costs that result from failure to take medications as prescribed.

The pharmacy advocates will urge policies related to advancement of medication therapy management (MTM), which refers to consultations between pharmacists and patients regarding medication regiments; a legislative remedy to the Medicaid average manufacturer price (AMP) model which jeopardizes patients’ access to pharmacies; and ensuring Medicare beneficiaries maintain access to vaccines and durable medical equipment (DME) such as diabetes testing supplies from their neighborhood pharmacies, despite policies and policy proposals that threaten this access.

In addition to the efforts of those participating in-person in this event, NACDS RxIMPACT is conducting a “Virtual Hill Day” through which pharmacy advocates are contacting their elected officials via e-mail and mail.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (http://www. NACDS. org) (NACDS) represents 154 traditional drug stores, supermarkets, and mass merchants with pharmacies – from regional chains with four stores to national companies. NACDS members also include more than 900 pharmacy and front-end suppliers, and over 70 international members from 24 countries. Chains operate 37,000 pharmacies, and employ more than 2.5 million employees, including 118,000 full-time pharmacists. They fill more than 2.5 billion prescriptions annually, which is more than 72 percent of annual prescriptions in the United States. The total economic impact of all retail stores with pharmacies transcends their $815 billion in annual sales. Every $1 spent in these stores creates a ripple effect of $3.82 in other industries, for a total economic impact of $3.11 trillion, equal to 26 percent of GDP. Louisville, KY (PRWEB) December 17, 2010

LeapFrog Interactive, an award-winning digital agency, has made additions to its Client Services staff in the Louisville office, as a result of major growth in the agency's new business relationships. Two full-time positions -- Account Coordinator and Senior Account Manager -- were added to the team.

New Hires:

Jacob Knight, Account Coordinator
Knight brings years of traditional buying and selling expertise to the team. With management experience in a fast-paced advertising environment, Knight understands how to juggle a slew of time-intensive tasks on tight deadlines. She has sold and been sold to, making her proficient in both brainstorming and sales pitch environments. "Seeking employment at LeapFrog Interactive was a no-brainer for me. When I engaged in the interview process, it was immediately evident--transitioning to a predominantly digital agency would be a smart move. I wanted to remain on the cutting-edge of technology and still use my strengths as a consultative customer relations manager."

"Jacob was hired because he is the ultimate go-getter," said Michael Wunsch, Vice President of Client Services. "In his interviews, he demonstrated progressive and succinct problem-solving skills -- from which we can all benefit. His support of account managers will be crucial to the everyday project flow at LeapFrog Interactive."

When asked about his decision to hire Eaton, Michael Wunsch said, "Melanie's addition to the company was strategic on many levels. Her aptitude for managing large, national accounts -- especially in the healthcare industry -- was a big plus. Her appreciation for exploring new technologies and finding ways to execute them, no matter the industry, speaks volumes for her drive and determination."
