Mothers of Special Needs Children Get a Very Special Conference

Mothers of Special Needs Children Get a Very Special Conference

Spring conference in Texas to help teach, support and empower mothers of children with special needs to care for themselves too!

Austin, TX (PRWEB) December 2, 2010

Parenting a child with special needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy can be quite draining emotionally, psychologically, and physically; as well as socially isolating. That is why on April 9th, 2011, an intimate group of fifty moms who care for children with special needs will be coming together at the Candlelight Ranch near Austin, Texas for a one of a kind holistically-focused self-care conference, the Special Moms, Special Healing Conference and Revitalizing Retreat. The theme is: Loving Yourself=Loving Your Special Needs Children. Unlike most events centered around disabilities, this one focuses on the caretaker’s health and well-being.

The conference is being organized by Special Moms, Special Healing, a support and resource site founded by Julie McAllister, a mom to two children with special needs. After having suffered from and overcome depression, Julie realized the lack of support available for moms of children with special needs and decided to create a place for them to go online. This event is an offline extension of her site, meant to bring her readers face to face while reinforcing the importance of self-love and self-care. According to McAllister, “The Special Moms, Special Healing Conference was created to inspire mothers of special needs children to recognize that behind the name of “mother” there is still a “woman.” When mothers love themselves as much as they love their special needs children, everyone benefits. This conference will inspire mothers who are parents of special needs children to take care of themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually and allow them to share precious time with other mothers of special needs children.”

Program highlights for the conference include:
Keynote Address by Mindy Audlin, author of What If It All Goes RIGHT? Renee Trudeau presenting “The Transformative Power of Self-Care” For the daring, a 225 ft Canyon Crawl & Zip Line over an 80 ft deep canyon Breakout sessions on nutrition, fitness, yoga, & more. Supportive sponsors on-hand to answer questions and provide resources

McAllister reports that although this conference is targeting a small group of moms living in and around the Austin, Texas area, there are moms flying in from across the country and one of the speakers is even coming in from Austria. She also says that she will continue to offer this event at least annually and possibly even extend it nationally.

The Special Moms, Special Healing Conference and Revitalizing Retreat is looking for support from various sponsors who believe in supporting moms who care for children with special needs. Both cash and in-kind sponsorships are welcomed. Those interested in attending should sign-up for the conference mailing list as subscribers will be notified first when the registration opens in January 2011.

Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, today announced the launch of the “Promise Me/For My Sister” campaign, offering consumers who pre-order a copy of Komen for the Cure founder Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker’s forthcoming inspirational memoir Promise Me the opportunity to have a free, signed copy of the book sent to the person of their choice.

The Promise Me/For My Sister campaign was announced at the Komen for the Cure global Affiliate Leadership Conference in Dallas, where Brinker’s memoir was unveiled to a crowd of nearly 1,000 Komen Affiliate representatives, sponsors and corporate partners.

From March 22 through Sept. 13, consumers who pre-order a copy of Promise Me from any online retailer are invited to forward their order confirmation e-mail to PromiseMe(at)RandomHouse(dot)com along with the name, address, and email address of the person receiving the free, signed copy.

Promise Me: How a Sister’s Love Launched the Global Movement to End Breast Cancer tells the story of two sisters, Nancy G. Brinker and Susan G. Komen, their loving bond from childhood through adulthood, the cancer that took one sister’s life and threatened the other’s, and the Promise between them that launched the global breast cancer movement, transforming and saving the lives of millions of women.

Brinker ignited the global breast cancer movement 28 years ago by promising Susan, who died at age 36 of the disease, that she would put an end to the shame, pain, fear and hopelessness caused by breast cancer. In 1982, with a handful of dedicated friends, Brinker founded Susan G. Komen for the Cure in her sister’s memory.

A year after creating the organization, she started the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® series, the most successful series of 1k/5k walks and runs for charity. Additionally, she pioneered cause-related marketing, which has enabled millions of people from all walks of life to join the fight against breast cancer. To date, Komen for the Cure has invested more than $1.5 billion into breast cancer research, awareness, education and support programs, playing a role in every major advance in breast cancer research and treatment. Komen is today the world’s largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.

Said Diane Salvatore, Vice President, Publisher, Broadway Books, “We are deeply honored to be bringing Nancy G. Brinker’s inspiring story of unwavering determination and optimism to a broad readership, and we hope that the Promise Me/For My Sister campaign will help spread the message, one person at a time, of how important it is that we continue to combat this disease.”

Broadway Books is an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group at Random House, Inc., whose parent company is Bertelsmann AG.

Great Web Sites Recognized by The Ratings Guy™

Great Web Sites Recognized by The Ratings Guy™

Consumers win when search engines fail: New company launched to help consumers get to the better Web site sooner with TheRatingsGuy. com. Great Web sites recognized in major Lifestyle categories, with less than 3% making the grade.

Belfast, ME (PRWEB) April 2, 2007

The Ratings Guy announces the launch of Web site ratings and review services, helping consumers to find the better site sooner. The new service also helps Web sites to differentiate their offering to target audiences and to display The Ratings Guy’s Great Site™ seal. The seal is evidence of a successful site evaluation by objective researchers who identify Web sites that excel in providing consumers with high quality, trusted, and experienced resources. Less than 3% of Web sites make the grade for Great Site status. Access to the complete listing of Great Sites is free and is found at TheRatingsGuy. com (http://www. theratingsguy. com).

The Ratings Guy offers user-submitted nominations and ratings in addition to its independent and objective review process. Web sites may request a review, and only those meeting the Great Site benchmarks become eligible for participation in the Great Site Benchmarking Network, an exclusive group of Internet thought leaders working to advance consumer empowerment on the Web.

“With so many options available on the Web today, and search results polluted with sponsored and paid advertising, consumers are finding it more difficult to find the best sites. Web site owners in particular, must compete for traffic across a range of unrelated categories that creates congestion in everyday users’ search results. Our experience shows that less than 3% of web sites make the cut,” said John Morrow, company co-founder.

The Ratings Guy was developed by a team, experienced in the consumer research and ratings field and frustrated with the search industry’s inability to separate advertising from editorial. The company, led by Morrow will review and rate Web sites across an array of popular consumer lifestyle information categories including: health & wellness, travel & leisure, house & home, animals & pets, diet & cuisine, kids, shopping and more. Morrow is best known for having created “100 Top Hospitals: Benchmarks for Success,” the health care industry’s first national hospital rating and benchmarking system.

The Ratings Guy is an independent and objective resource, supported by research librarians and researchers (the original search engines) who seek to identify those Web resources that provide users with exceptional quality, trust, and experience. The company uses a proprietary review methodology to test sites against its own benchmarks for transparency, accuracy, timeliness, functionality, trust and usefulness. SVASE Provides Early Stage Silicon Valley Startup Investment Insight

SVASE Provides Early Stage Silicon Valley Startup Investment Insight

The Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE) super-panel of Silicon Valley VCs and angel investors ready to debate the state of venture financing for startups in Silicon Valley and around the world

Palo Alto, CA (Vocus) September 16, 2010

VC-Angel Investor Super-Panel —SoftTech VC, Sierra Ventures, Cooley LLP, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Banyan Water— Debate PWC Report Implications for Silicon Valley

The Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE) (http://www. svase. org) today announced the introduction of a super-panel of Silicon Valley VCs and angel investors to debate the implications of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ MoneyTree™ Q2 report of global venture capital investment on venture financing in Silicon Valley and around the world. PricewaterhouseCoopers will unveil the MoneyTree™ report to attendees prior to the panel discussion.

This SVASE event will begin at 6:00 p. m., Thursday, September 16 at co-sponsor Cooley LLP’s (http://www. cooley. com) offices in Palo Alto, CA. Interested media should contact Jeff Lettes, jlettes@globalmediastrategy. com

According to PwC’s August 2010 report, "Quarterly Recovery," (http://www. pwc. com/us/en/health-industries/publications/moneytree-quarterly-rebound-august-2010.jhtml? wt. ac=vt-us-lifesciencesmoneytree) that includes data from the PwC/NVCA MoneyTree Report, based on data from Thomson Reuters (https://www. pwcmoneytree. com/MTPublic/ns/index. jsp), venture capitalists invested $6.5 billion in 906 deals in the second quarter, an increase of 34 percent in terms of dollars and 22 percent in terms of deals, compared to the first quarter of 2010 when $4.9 billion was invested in 740 deals.

The report stated that early stage funding increased in terms of dollars and deals from the previous quarter and rose year over year while later stage dollars and deals saw a decline from the prior quarter and year over year. While early stage investing saw a significant jump in Q2, rising to $751 million, an 83 percent jump from the prior quarter and a 33 percent increase compared to the second quarter of 2009, later stage funding decreased by 7 percent from Q1 2010 to $402 million. The number of Later Stage deals also saw a decline, falling to 44 deals in Q2 2010, a 6 percent decline from the prior quarter and a 17 percent drop when compared to the second quarter of 2009.

“Given the continued overall weakness of the IPO market and its effects on VC exits, as well as fund returns and fundraising, we are seeing angel and super angel investors becoming the more dominant initial funding sources for most Silicon Valley technology startups,” said Chris Gill, President and CEO of SVASE. “The renewed focus on early stage investments, coupled with the potential for earlier exit through acquisition in the $15 million - $50 million range is a welcome trend, encouraging more entrepreneurs to launch new startups.

“Fortunately, the type of access that Silicon Valley and SVASE provide to these types of funding sources, talent, customers, and experienced service providers, all in one highly concentrated area, are increasingly making Silicon Valley the best place in the world for entrepreneurs to launch their first, second, and third startup.”

The SVASE Super-Panel:
Jeff Clavier, Founder and Managing Partner, SoftTech VC Vispi Daver, Partner, Sierra Ventures Eric C. Jensen, Partner, Cooley LLP Warren Packard, Managing Director, Draper Fisher Jurvetson Tamin Pechet, CEO, Banyan Water LLC Moderator: Steve Bengston, Managing Director of Emerging Company Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers (http://www. pwc. com/us/en/index. jhtml)

Shaking the MoneyTree
The MoneyTree™ report is the definitive source of information on emerging companies that receive financing and the venture capital firms that provide it. As a collaboration between PricewaterhouseCoopers, Thomson Venture Economics and the National Venture Capital Association, it is the only industry-endorsed research of its kind.

SmartDraw. com Lists Top Tips for Effective Space Planning

SmartDraw. com Lists Top Tips for Effective Space Planning

SmartDraw. com, makers of SmartDraw, the first program to automate the process of creating business graphics, today released its list of "Top Tips for Effective Space Planning." SmartDraw, the world's most popular business graphics software, is downloaded by more than 2 million people every year and is widely used to create polished, professional looking space plans and floor plans for various facilities, homes, and offices.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2008

SmartDraw. com, makers of SmartDraw, the first program to automate the process of creating business graphics, (http://www. smartdraw. com/exp/ste/examples/index. htm) today released its list of "Top Tips for Effective Space Planning." SmartDraw, (http://www. smartdraw. com/specials/floorplans. asp) the world's most popular business graphics software, is downloaded by more than 2 million people every year and is widely used to create polished, professional looking space plans and floor plans (http://www. smartdraw. com/examples/view/index. aspx? catID=.Examples. SmartDraw. Floor_Plans) for various facilities, homes, and offices.

1) You can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by taking careful measurements and thinking through the following issues before you start drawing. When measuring existing spaces, lay your measuring tape flat on the floor and measure room dimensions in several places, especially where furniture will be a tight fit. Don't assume your walls are parallel.
2) Before laying out furniture, look for projecting windowsills, and note the location of electrical receptacles, light switches, vents and thermostats.
3) When placing a desk, ask yourself, "What do I want to be looking at when I sit there?"
4) When planning an office, first determine whether the occupant's back will be toward the door. Some people feel very strongly about this. Other design decisions will flow from this basic choice.
5) To reduce glare, try to avoid having computer monitors directly facing windows.
6) Leave enough empty space in front of filing cabinets to fully extend the drawer, plus at least 18 additional inches if the drawers will be accessed by a person standing in front of them.
7) Allow adequate working space at desks or cubicles. The distance from the working side of a desk to the nearest wall or furniture should be at least 42 inches (and most people find 54 or 60 inches more comfortable).
8) The walkway between a piece of furniture and a wall should be at least 30 inches in a residential space (36" is preferred). In a public space it should be at least 36 inches (42" is preferred).
9) To get a feel for the width of a walkway before placing furniture, put a tape line on the floor to see how different dimensions would feel.
10) When placing furniture on a residential plan, remember that most furniture will actually sit 2 or 3 inches from the wall.
11) Don't line all the furniture up along the walls. Break up spaces by placing pieces out in the room. Setting rugs, sofas, or other furniture at angles can help avoid an overly rigid feel.

SmartDraw, which offers a free trial on its website (http://www. smartdraw. com/specials/floorplans. asp), offers hundreds floor plan templates (http://www. smartdraw. com/examples/view/index. aspx? catID=.Examples. SmartDraw. Floor_Plans) that users can modify to quickly create the graphic they need. This includes floor plans for corporate and office layouts, emergency evacuation and planning, home floor plans and room layouts, hotel floor plans, restaurant floor plans, landscape design, retail plans and planograms, store layouts and facility designs, and more.

SmartDraw includes hundreds of life-like textures that users can add to plans such as wood, granite, and marble, as well as built-in photo software (http://www. smartdraw. com/product/upgrade/newfunctionality. htm#built) making it a snap to incorporate photos into designs. SmartDraw captures images from cameras, lets users crop and scale them, adjust color and brightness levels, and drop them directly into organization charts, and other illustrations.

In addition, SmartDraw features built-in-themes with professionally-designed colors, schemes, and effects for polished results anytime, as well as one-click copy to MS® documents such as Word® and PowerPoint®, as well as PDF.

Readers can check out a complete list of new features in SmartDraw 2008 at: http://www. smartdraw. com/product/upgrade/index. htm (http://www. smartdraw. com/product/upgrade/index. htm). Schnader attorney Samuel W. Silver receives membership in the American College of Trial Lawyers in recognition of his professional achievements and conduct.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 11, 2007

Schnader attorney Samuel W. Silver has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), one of the premier legal associations in America. The induction ceremony at which Mr. Silver became a Fellow took place at the 2007 Annual Meeting of the College held recently in Denver, Colorado.

"We could not be more proud of Sam," said Chairman Ralph Wellington. "This wonderful honor only serves to confirm what has been known to so many of us for so long - that Sam is a dedicated, top-notch litigator who gets positive results for his clients and who is well-respected among his peers."

Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Members are considered to have mastered the art of advocacy, with professional careers marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality. Membership in the College cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. There are currently more than 5,000 members throughout the United States and Canada, including active Fellows, Emeritus Fellows, Judicial Fellows (those who ascended to the bench after their induction), and Honorary Fellows. The College strives to improve and elevate the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice, and the ethics of the trial profession. Qualified lawyers (http://www. schnader. com) are called to the Fellowship in the College from all branches of trial practice, both those who represent plaintiffs and those that represent defendants in civil matters, as well as those who prosecute and those who defend individuals accused of crime. Because of this diversity in its membership, the College is able to speak with a balanced voice on important issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice.
