October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the seventh year, Denise Turney, author of the books Portia, Love Has Many Faces and Spiral is embracing the journey for a cure for breast cancer, a disease that has touched the lives of countless American women and men. “A breast cancer scare is part of Portia, the first book I had published. I was in the Navy at the time. Portia began as a way to share my love with my family. I actually thought the book would be all that remained those several years ago, but thank God I am able to continue creating and sharing stories with multitudes of readers around the globe.”

Turney continues her long standing tradition of giving a portion of the proceeds from the sales of Portia toward helping to fund a cure for breast cancer and giving to organizations that support and strengthen community. “Portia is a work of creative non-fiction. It tells the story of a successful attorney dealing with the challenges of breast cancer,” Turney states. During the month of October the author and Chistell Publishing will contribute half of the proceeds of books sold through their website at – http://www. chistell. com (http://www. chistell. com) – to breast cancer research. “We will be victorious against cancer!” Turney exclaims. “As each of us joins the fight toward this great win, we will strengthen one another, around the globe, person to person, one life full of health to another. I’m glad to be a part of that journey.”

Featured in Parade, Today’s Black Woman, Essence, Sisters In Style, Modern Dad Magazine, Obsidian II, The Pittsburgh Quarterly, The Trenton Times, The Philadelphia Tribune, and The College of New Jersey Literary Review among numerous other publications throughout the nation, Turney has gained recognition for her ability to capture real life scenarios in a manner that enthralls her audience and places them right in the shoes of her characters. Currently the author is putting the finishing touches on her fourth and fifth novels, aptly titled Zoe: What Have We Learned and Run (both books are due out in 2006).

Turney’s work is featured online at http://www. chistell. com (http://www. chistell. com) where readers can read the first chapters of her books (including her newest titles) for free.
