From the Bloggosphere  The healthcare I. T. blogger known as Mr. HIStalk will name the winners of ÂThe 2005 HISsies: the Brutally Honest Healthcare Information System Awards just prior to a major industry conference on February 10. Of the timing of the announcement of winners, Mr. HIStalk explained in a recent edition, ÂIt will give people something to talk about while trolling for free party invitations.Â
ÂSeveral publications and organizations offer self-serving industry awards, mostly to advertisers who support them, said Mr. HIStalk. ÂEven vendors are giving awards to their own customers. In that spirit of shameless self-promotion, HIStalk is pleased to offer an alternative for the realists who, when the emperor has no clothes, want to hear someone say so.Â
Readers have provided input into voting categories. Some announced ones are: Smartest Healthcare IT Vendor Move of 2004, Stupidest Healthcare IT Vendor Move of 2004, Best and Worst HIT-related Employer, Most Effective Healthcare CIO, Most Overused Buzzword of 2004, HIT Industry Figure with Whom YouÂd Most Like to Have a Few Beers, and HIS Industry Figure in Whose Face YouÂd Most Like to Throw a Pie.
HIStalk is read by many industry heavyweights on both the provider and vendor side of healthcare technology, most of whom remain anonymous or communicate only privately with Mr. HIStalk. However, the blog recently made headlines when it featured two lengthy and insightful interviews with IT vendor CEOs, both of whom volunteered as fans of the tome. This marks the first known occasion in which a company CEO has agreed to be the subject of a formal interview by an anonymous blogger.
HIStalk has been published online since June 2003, consisting of nearly 300 editions of news, rumors, and opinion. Over 7,000 visitors per month read its perceptive and often cynical viewpoints. HIStalk has been quoted in numerous publications, has had story ideas ripped off by several more, and has poked fun of overwrought, buzzword-laden press releases crafted by clueless marketing types, of which this obviously isnÂt one.
