Priore Advocacy & Professionalism Award by the Central New York Bankruptcy Bar Association and the Capital Region Bankruptcy Bar Association. Balanoff was also recognized recently by the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, and awarded the Pro Bono Service Award for outstanding pro bono work.
The Priore Award is named for Nick Priore, Esq., a former partner at Getnick, Livingston, Atkinson, Gigliotti and Priore, who died suddenly at age 46 in December 2007. Nick was active in state, county and local Bar Associations and served on the 5th judicial district nominating committee. Nick was loved by everyone in the legal industry. Lawyers, judges and clients alike held him in the highest esteem for his honesty, intelligence and diligent work ethic. A true “lawyers’ lawyer,” and a widely-acclaimed expert in Bankruptcy and Commercial Transactions law, Nick’s ability as a lawyer was only surpassed by his pleasant, kind, humble and compassionate personality. Nick’s law partners established the Priore Award in his memory and each year choose, along with the presidents of the two bankruptcy bar associations, an attorney who closely exemplifies the qualities and skills of advocacy on behalf of clients while maintaining a spirit of collegiality and professionalism.
Michael J. Balanoff is a member at Green & Seifter, Attorneys, PLLC and practices primarily in the areas of bankruptcy, workouts, debtor and creditor rights, business acquisitions, real estate and telecommunications. Balanoff is also an experienced arbitrator and mediator with over forty years of experience working with cases in commercial transactions, bankruptcy, debtor and creditor rights, and workouts. He is on a select Panel of Mediators for the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York and is a Founding Member and Past President of the Central New York Bankruptcy Bar Association. He is a graduate of Tufts University and Boston College Law School. He served in the US Army in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star for Service.
