Top UK Back Pain Specialist Reveals Trade Secrets on How to Prevent and Treat Pain

Top UK Back Pain Specialist Reveals Trade Secrets on How to Prevent and Treat Pain

Renowned London acupuncturist, Tim Colman, today decided to unlock the ancient secrets of acupuncture, by switching his acupuncture protocols for back pain into a powerful, yet easy to read acupressure programme available for use by the public.

(PRWEB) October 27, 2005

Renowned London acupuncturist, Tim Colman, today decided to unlock the ancient secrets of acupuncture, by switching his acupuncture protocols for back pain into a powerful, yet easy to read acupressure program available for use by the public.

Acupuncture is now becoming widely accepted as probably the quickest and most effective natural way to stop pain. Even GP’s are now going on a four day course to use acupuncture for pain, and top sporting coaches and elite fitness professionals work closely with acupuncturists to aid their clients.

“I don't know about you, but I've always been a little skeptical about acupressure and acupuncture” states Dax Moy, one of the UK’s top performance enhancement specialists, “but after working my way through Tim's fantastic little booklet, applying the techniques to my own injuries and then seeing the results my own clients were achieving, I've been blown away.”

“The wonderful thing about acupuncture is that it can be used not only to stop pain, but to heal and then strengthen the weakened area” says Colman. “It’s great that GPs’ are finally recognizing the power of acupuncture. However, if there is pain there is something wrong, it is only a symptom, not the cause”.

Back pain is suffered by over half the UK population and for many is a part of every day life. Most of my clients come to me after years of suffering, and just think they have to suffer. The fact is, in most people it is preventable.

“I felt frustrated treating clients, relieving their pain only for them to return a month later”, explains Colman. “I developed the acupressure program because people such as dentists and builders are prone to back-ache due to the nature of their work. Nobody expects them to change careers. But with a little advice and help, they can help themselves to a less painful life.”

The booklet outlines the precise location of actual acupuncture points that focus on treating back-pain; some are even on the feet and then acupressure techniques to work on those points. Tim comments, “These are not points that I have invented. Over thousands of years their effect has been analyzed and accepted. The acupressure techniques are simple and they work.

Techniques vary from massaging on precise points to working directly on the area of pain. Even if you can’t reach round to your pain, Tim has the answer. One exercise involves wrapping two tennis balls tightly in a towel and then gently lowering yourself down onto the towel where you have the pain.

Moy, endorsing the booklet stated it, “details absolutely everything the lay person (or therapist or trainer) would need to know to help a client manage their pain without medication”.

Tim’s mission is to give power and control to the public and share the magical healing power of acupuncture with as many people as possible. He states, “The body’s natural inclination is to re-balance and heal itself. Acupuncture works by boosting, unblocking and channeling the body’s own energy to achieve and promote this healing process.”

“Acupuncture alongside nutritional advice and gentle exercise becomes a powerful ‘medicine’ that is totally safe, highly effective and available to all who are willing to learn. It is a disgrace this information is not more freely available when so many people could be benefiting from it at this very moment.”

Tim’s free e-booklet, “Acupuncture without needles: Back Pain, is now available online at:

Las Vegas Area Health District Selects Application Developer to Deal New Cards - Clark County Health District Believes There Is No Gamble with Goddard Technology Corporation

Las Vegas Area Health District Selects Application Developer to Deal New Cards - Clark County Health District Believes There Is No Gamble with Goddard Technology Corporation

Officials at Greenville, SC-based Goddard Technology Corporation today announced their selection by Nevada's Clark County Health District (CCHD) to provide a new infrastructure for health card issuance.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) November 1, 2004

Officials at Greenville, SC-based Goddard Technology Corporation, a leading provider of biometric, smart card, and secure credential solutions, today announced their selection by the Clark County Health District (CCHD), headquartered in Las Vegas, to provide a new infrastructure for health card issuance.

Clark County Health District issues approximately 155,000 health cards yearly and collects information using multiple systems. By selecting Goddard Technology Corporation, CCHD hopes to reduce the number of systems necessary to collect data and issue cards while also increasing the accuracy and efficiency of the card issuing process.

Clark County workers involved with jobs that include hair care, body piercing, food preparation and handling, adult group care, child care, massage and reflexology, as well as tattoo and permanent make-up are required to register with the CCHD and meet certain medical requirements prior to working in affected job fields. Health cards are workersÂ’ proof of medical eligibility. People are prohibited from working in regulated fields without the cards.

Bill Donohue, Goddard's president and CEO said, "Clark County Health District’s selection of Goddard illustrates its commitment to partner with a technology firm most capable of furthering the district’s mission of protecting and promoting the health, environment, and well-being of Clark County’s residents and visitors.”

“While we are responsible for creating a custom solution to collect and store accurate health information for the cards’ production, more importantly this new system is designed to meet the district’s current needs, provide scalability for any of the district’s future changes, and improve customer service to those conducting business with the district.” He added that the system is also customizable for smaller health departments across the country – including those who do not issue the mandatory health cards like CCHD.

Donohue said his team understands how important universal access is to CCHD and its clients and that Goddard will implement the latest technologies and development tools to enable deployment of this secure web client solution. To assist the CCHD as it transitions from current multi-system data storage and card production methods, Goddard will aid the CCHD with data conversion, report generation, interfacing with the districtÂ’s other web applications, installation, and training.

“The Clark County Health District takes its responsibility and public trust seriously. It seeks a long-term partner to help fulfill its goal of providing essential services. Along with system integration and functionality, improved CCHD customer service is our key goal,” Donohue said.

With a testing period that will last for the remainder of this year, GoddardÂ’s new system is expected to be on-line by the end of January.

Claudia Starkey is the creator and owner of Remedix. Although Remedix is a relatively new company, the creative concepts behind their time-tested products have been around for years.

Claudia spent her formative years under Communist rule in the Eastern European country of Romania. During the 1980's, most of Romania's food and other resources were exported from the country, leaving the majority of provisions unattainable. Beyond the very basics, like a simple bar of soap, purchasing skin care and other body care products was out of the question. But Claudia and many others turned to the land and forests of Transylvania. The region is known for its unspoiled bounty of plants and herbs.

It is this knowledge of formulating products that naturally comes from the earth that Remedix was built on. When Claudia moved to Boston in 2000, she realized that there were things missing from store's shelves. She decided to create a line of unusual products that will provide more natural alternatives for beauty and wellness. Starting with her first product, an eyelash treatment made after an Eastern European old recipe, Remedix was born. Claudia's desire to create skin and natural body care has now grown to a full product line which can be purchased at her store on Newbury Street in Boston as well as online.

Claudia has not forgotten her home. Proceeds from Remedix sales are being sent to help the people of Romania. Her efforts have touched many lives through social, educational, and environmental projects throughout Romania and Eastern Europe.

Claudia resides in Quincy, Massachusetts along with her husband Larry and son Alex.

New Book About Life After a Corporate Layoff Shows How to Get from Mad to Glad

New Book About Life After a Corporate Layoff Shows How to Get from Mad to Glad

Kitty Wiemelt provides an instant community of fellow career changers in this collection of heartfelt stories by 21 people who share their diverse, life-changing experiences. They tell intimate accounts of gut-wrenching transitions-from the lows of hearing they've been laid off to the highs of discovering their life's work. Transition from Mad to Glad and "go to school" on the stories you'll find in this book.

Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) July 26, 2006

“Not in his goals but in his transitions, man is great,” penned the famed American poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Transitions come in all shapes and sizes, and one of the best things a person in transition can do is view it as moving from one great adventure to another — or seeking a new direction in life. In "Laid Off? Don’t Stress! How to Get from Mad to Glad" (Windmill, ISBN 0977386503, 144 pages, $16.95), you will read about the joyous, energizing experiences of 21 people who have come through tough and dramatic transitions as the result of being laid off unexpectedly. Each writer has a distinct voice and a unique message, but all have found new lives and "restored hope" at the end of the day. Everyone who has experienced the harsh realities of corporate life will connect with these compelling, emotional, and uplifting stories.

According to veteran leadership trainer Steve Meisenheimer, “Many authors employ the power of words; Kitty Wiemelt reaches beyond the words to the awesome power of hope. And hope is never needed more than when we suddenly don’t feel needed.”

This project began out of the sense of community Wiemelt personally shared with fellow career-changers. As a result of talking with dozens of people who had suffered an unexpected employment change, Wiemelt decided to collect the most compelling stories she heard. In "Laid Off? Don’t Stress! How to Get from Mad to Glad," you will see how:

Individuals who were victimized by the dot-com crash of 2000 survived and prospered in the aftermath. A non-profit organization’s chief fundraiser found his true calling at age 51 One woman discovered that happiness was a choice, not a fate bestowed on the lucky few People learn how to heal not just their finances but their self-esteem in the wake of multiple corporate layoffs

Scattered throughout the book are checklists called “Mad to Glad Guidelines for You.” These special guidelines are concise pieces of advice to help and inspire the reader to move toward position actions in the wake of being laid off.

Study Demonstrates Reduced Youth Violence and Improved School Success and Mental Health Through School Based Mental Health Services

Study Demonstrates Reduced Youth Violence and Improved School Success and Mental Health Through School Based Mental Health Services

Evidence is emerging that school-based mental health services are an effective and cost efficient way to improve school performance and mental health and reduce behavioral problems. To assess the effectiveness of school based mental health (SBMH) services to provide these outcomes in students, a five year study was conducted in a rural school district. From the 2001 to the 2002 school year, students participating in SBMH had significantly improved school attendance (from approximately 4600 to 4200 days absent). This project demonstrated that school based mental health services improved student well-being, behavior and school success, while showing a significant decrease in the initial presenting mental health symptoms, violence and other behavior problems at home and at school.

(PRWEB) October 11, 2004

In a time when resources are scarce and problems are many, professionals are choosing evidence-based practices to improve outcomes related to services. Evidence is emerging that school-based mental health services are an effective and cost efficient way to improve school performance and mental health and reduce behavioral problems. To assess the effectiveness of school based mental health (SBMH) services to provide these outcomes in students from Pre-K - 12th grades, Robert Schmidt, MA and Kathryn Seifert, Ph. D. collaborated on the evaluation of outcomes for a SBMH program for a mid-Atlantic rural school district.

The project began in 1999 after a Federal grant was awarded to the school district. The children's scores on the Devereaux, BASC, CARE and several school measures such as absenteeism, disciplinary referrals, and suspensions were measured from the beginning of services and at the beginning and end of each school year. Youth were referred to the project from teachers, guidance counselors, parents, student self-referrals and other agencies such as the Departments of Social Services and Juvenile Services of which resulted in 1,247 SBMH referrals during a five-year period.

From 1999 to 2004, 36% of these students were referred because of symptoms of depression, 26% because of family problems, and 24% because of behavior problems. There were 84 referrals to the program in 1999, compared to 437 students in 2002 and 239 students in 2003. Peak referral times were consistently observed during the months of October and February. Youth in the transition years of sixth and ninth grades were referred to the program most often. More Caucasian females participated in the project than any other ethnic/gender group. In 2000, 2,132 mental health sessions were provided, in contrast to an amazing 15,763 sessions during the 2003/04 school year.

A group of one hundred thirty-two students who participated in the program showed significantly improved attitudes toward teachers and school, decreased mental health symptoms, and increased self-esteem after one year of services. From the 2001 to the 2002 school year, students participating in SBMH had significantly improved school attendance (from approximately 4600 to 4200 days absent). One hundred seventy-eight students had a significant (49%) decrease in disciplinary referrals and violence related disciplinary referrals from the 2001 to the 2002 school year. One hundred thirty-four participants had a significant decrease (54%) in suspensions from school. Parents of 103 students reported that their children were having significantly fewer problems after receiving services. Ninety-nine youth self-reported significantly improved commitment to school, interpersonal relationships and self-esteem, as well as fewer stress related problems. Two hundred fifty students reported significantly reduced school maladjustment and clinical maladjustment and improved attitudes toward parents and emotional well-being.

This project demonstrated that school based mental health services improved student well-being, behavior and school success, while showing a significant decrease in the initial presenting mental health symptoms, violence and other behavior problems at home and at school. Although these services and study enter into it? s sixth year and is on-going, other school-based mental health services must be provided, expanded, and studied. This project provides a framework for improved student health/success and decreased school violence while positively enhancing the community of which we live, work and play.

The Vitamin C Foundation Announces the Publication of the Book, Practicing Medicine Without A License? The Story of the Linus Pauling Therapy for Heart Disease

The Vitamin C Foundation Announces the Publication of the Book, Practicing Medicine Without A License? The Story of the Linus Pauling Therapy for Heart Disease

Practicing Medicine Without A License? The Story of the Linus Pauling Therapy for Heart Disease, copyright 2008 by Owen Fonorow with Sally Snyder Jewell will be available from the Foundation in March 2008. This book by the co-founder of the Vitamin C Foundation covers the greater than 50-year history of the vitamin C theory of heart disease as well as the 12-year history of a therapy for cardiovascular disease invented by the American scientist, Linus Pauling. The book publication coincides with the commemorative Linus Pauling stamp to be introduced on March 6, 2008 as part of the U. S. Postal Service's new American Scientists stamps.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) February 29, 2008

Heart patients who decided to follow Linus Pauling's advice recovered in approximately 30 days, and many experienced significant relief in as little as 10 days. The recoveries only occurred after these former patients adopted the Pauling-therapy, usually without their doctor's knowledge or consent.

A common theme in the book is that these brave souls who adopted the Pauling-therapy quickly ended their pain and suffering, just as Linus Pauling predicted. In case after case, recovery occurred soon after the individual abandoned the "old" cardiology and embarked on what was at the time a little-traveled path into the world of orthomolecular medicine. When they strayed from the Pauling path, their disease returned.

Each incredible but true story is told through the eyes of a former heart patient. Some of the cases selected for inclusion in the book have now spanned more than 10 years. Several of these recoveries occurred in patients who had been barely able to arise from their "death" beds. The named individuals are not seeking publicity, but they are willing to meet with reporters and discuss their individual cases and medical histories.

Practicing Medicine Without A License? contains the specific detailed vitamin C and lysine dosage recommendations made by the twice Nobel prize-winning scientist. These recommendations have helped thousands of heart patients overcome their disease. The book also explores the reasons why Linus Pauling's therapy may not work in some cases.

The word "orthomolecular" was coined by Linus Pauling to represent "right molecules," or nontoxic nutritional substances in dosages much larger than the RDA. The book could have been appropriately titled, Chronic Scurvy, which is a more accurate description of the cardiovascular disease process.

The book publication coincides with the commemorative Linus Pauling stamp to be introduced on March 6, 2008 as part of the U. S. Postal Service's new American Scientists stamps.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Owen Fonorow graduated from the United States Air Force Academy. He is retired from AT&T Bell Laboratories in Naperville, Illinois and teaches college-level computer science. In 1996, shortly after Linus Pauling died, Owen co-founded of the Houston-based non-profit Vitamin C Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to fund vitamin C research and to help educate the public about the many health benefits of vitamin C.

Sally Jewell has worked in writing and editing in both the legal and medical arenas for over 30 years. Sally became acquainted with Owen Fonorow and the Vitamin C Foundation when her husband was diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome and has worked with them closely since that time in the advancement of information regarding the Pauling protocol for heart disease.

The first-ever Vitamin C Foundation Book will be available first in hard cover (ISBN 978-0-9816152-0-2) in late March or early April 2008. The soft cover edition is scheduled to become available in June 2008. The book will also be translated into other languages and available in audio-book (MP3) format.

New Website Provides 10 Natural Treatments For Hemorrhoids

New Website Provides 10 Natural Treatments For Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids-treatment. net launches a website to help hemorrhoid sufferers get hemorrhoid relief using natural methods.

San Francisco, California (PRWEB) November 17, 2010

For most people, hemorrhoid treatment means pain, expensive medication, and possibly even surgery. However, more and more people are looking for natural ways to cure their hemorrhoid problem.

Natural home remedies for hemorrhoid treatment has several advantages over other types of hemorrhoid treatments. Consider these facts:
Hemorrhoid surgery is very expensive, and a botched surgery can create even more problems. Over-the-counter creams and medications may temporarily solve the hemorrhoid problem, but they do nothing to address the underlying causes of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoid medications often include unpleasant side-effects.

Who is Most Susceptible to Hemorrhoids?

Over 50% of American adults will suffer from a hemorrhoid at some point in their life. In particular, overweight or obese people, pregnant women, and middle aged people are at higher risk for hemorrhoids than others.

Furthermore, hemorrhoids are often a side-effect of the Western diet, which all too often includes many highly processed foods, too much sodium, and not enough water. Highly processed foods, such as fast food, have become a mainstay of the average American's diet. However, these foods do not contain enough dietary fiber, and without fiber, stool is much harder to pass. As a result, many Americans find themselves straining during a bowel movement, triggering a hemorrhoid to form.

Processed foods are packed with sodium, which in turn makes blood vessels swell throughout the body. Swollen blood vessels near the anus can easily become a hemorrhoid.

Plenty of water keeps stool soft and easy to pass. Without enough water, stools become dry, compacted, and difficult to pass.

By reducing processed foods, such as chips, candies, canned foods, cereals, white breads, salty snack foods, and fast food, while increasing intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, many people have cured their recurrent hemorrhoids without having to rely upon more invasive treatment methods. Furthermore, a change in diet can also help the hemorrhoid patient to lose weight, feel better about themselves, and enjoy an increase in energy – an added bonus that comes with an improved diet.

Ten Ways to Treat Hemorrhoids Naturally

Going to the doctor with a hemorrhoid, especially if he or she tells you that the real problem is simply a lack of fiber or fluid, can be very embarrassing. Sites such as Hemorrhoids-Treatment. net are making it easier for people to cure their hemorrhoids without having to seek the help of a doctor.

Besides the dietary changes mentioned above, people can soothe and even cure hemorrhoids with a number of other natural methods. All of these methods will help the hemorrhoid patient improve his or her situation, relieve pain, and pass stools more easily.

People can take responsibility for their own health and cure their hemorrhoids without expensive medication by utilizing the information contained on Hemorrhoids-Treatment. net and similar sites. If you suffer from hemorrhoids, you owe it to yourself to investigate natural ways of curing hemorrhoids and stopping their recurrence.

From Improving Cash Flow to Maximizing Profits: WikiCFO Provides Controllers, CFO's With New Online Community

A new online community, WikiCFO (www. wikicfo. com), has been established for Controllers and CFO's of entrepreneurial companies to share business best practice ideas for improving cash flow and maximizing profits. WikiCFO also allows users to post their ideas in the areas of banking, cash flow management, factoring services, developing financial projections, information technology, payroll profit improvements and others.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 27, 2007

A new online community, WikiCFO (http://www. wikicfo. com (http://www. wikicfo. com)), has been established for Controllers and CFO's of entrepreneurial companies to share business best practice ideas for improving cash flow (http://wikicfo. com) and maximizing profits (http://wikicfo. com).

WikiCFO also allows users to post their ideas in the areas of banking, cash flow management, factoring services, developing financial projections, information technology, payroll profit improvements and others. Business best practice ideas (http://www. wikicfo. com) currently posted at WikiCFO address how to collect accounts receivable; how to evaluate and renew an employee health insurance plan; mining the balance sheet for working capital; and how to control annual audit fees. Other Wikis examine areas such as exit planning, factoring, how to manage inventory and preparing a flash report.

The "how-to" manual of business best practice ideas for entrepreneurial companies, WikiCFO allows users to post their ideas on how to avoid additional insurance premiums (http://www. wikicfo. com/Wiki/AllPages. aspx); creating cash flow projections (http://www. wikicfo. com/Wiki/AllPages. aspx); managing inventory (http://www. wikicfo. com/Wiki/AllPages. aspx); preparing an investor package (http://www. wikicfo. com/Wiki/AllPages. aspx); and how to detect the warning signs of a company in trouble (http://www. wikicfo. com/Wiki/AllPages. aspx).

"With Sarbanes-Oxley and corporate reform, much of the attention has focused on the needs of CFO's and controllers at large, publicly-held organizations," says Jim Wilkinson, founder of WikiCFO. "The needs of controllers and CFO's at smaller, entrepreneurial businesses have for the most part gone ignored. There's a real vacuum out there."

Like other Wikis, WikiCFO's "open editing" feature allows users to create and edit any entry as well as suggest a Wiki to suit their needs. The website also boasts the day's Top Five Wikis.

Besides contributions from controllers and chief financial officers, WikiCFO accepts content from bankers, insurance and human resource professionals and other experts.

"We like to think of WikiCFO as a clearinghouse of business best practices for those charged with bringing value to a company, particularly in the areas of improving profits and cash flow," says Wilkinson.

He adds the expanded role of today's chief financial officer and controller has driven WikiCFO's content beyond traditional accounting issues.

"The days of a CFO or controller focusing exclusively on accounting are long gone," Wilkinson says.

IPCPR Urges Common Sense by Vermont Lawmakers

IPCPR Urges Common Sense by Vermont Lawmakers

The International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association today urged Vermont legislators to use common sense when considering an extreme tightening of the state's current smoking ban which has been in place since 1987. The proposal now before the legislature includes the banning of smoking in tobacco shops and other such adult oriented locations.

Montpelier, VT (PRWEB) April 22, 2009

The International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association today urged Vermont legislators to use common sense when considering an extreme tightening of the state's current smoking ban, which has been in place since 1987.

The proposal, now before the legislature, includes the banning of smoking in tobacco shops and other such adult oriented locations.

"No one goes into a tobacco store without expecting to encounter secondhand smoke," said Chris McCalla, legislative director of IPCPR. "These are adults-only workplaces whose air quality falls within the safe levels of air quality established by OSHA - the Occupational Health and Safety Administration."

McCalla urged Vermont legislators to be reasonable in their deliberations of the issue.

"We believe no smoking ban should be legislated and that it should be left up to business owners to determine whether or not smoking would be permitted in their establishments. However, the Vermont smoking ban - which has served the state and its citizens for nearly a quarter-century - is strong enough to satisfy the demands of any reasonable employee who desires a smoke free workplace while respecting the rights of others," McCalla said.

McCalla pointed out that most tobacco shops are mom-and-pop operations, small businesses that employ neighborhood workers and generate sales and income taxes for state coffers.

"If the right to smoke a cigar, pipe or other tobacco product in the controlled environment of a cigar store is legislated away, then these same lawmakers will be voting to eliminate these businesses and the jobs and taxes that go with them," McCalla added.

"Premium hand-made cigars are celebratory and special. Pipes are calming and reflective. Both are more like hobbies than habits and use of neither is aimed at children. We are a unique industry enjoying the sale and use of legal products. As long as we respect the rights of others as they should respect ours, we should be allowed to stay in business instead of being deprived of our livelihood through unreasonable legislation," he said.

Making Strides To Combat Stigma Of Mental Illness: Third Annual “Walk For Mental Health” Rescheduled For Sunday, September 26

Making Strides To Combat Stigma Of Mental Illness: Third Annual “Walk For Mental Health” Rescheduled For Sunday, September 26

For the third year in a row, thousands of Long Islanders will gather at the Huntington Post Office on Gerard Street to stomp out the stigma associated with mental illness by participating in the “Long Island Festival & Walk for Mental Health” that will take place on Sunday, September 26th at 1pm.

(PRWEB) September 9, 2004

For the third year in a row, thousands of Long Islanders will gather at the Huntington Post Office on Gerard Street to stomp out the stigma associated with mental illness by participating in the “Long Island Festival & Walk for Mental Health” that will take place on Sunday, September 26th at 1pm. “The anti-stigma message of this Walk is very important to everyone who is participating,” explains MJ Pulling, one of the Walk Committee Members and Director of Development for The Pederson-Krag Center. “Stigma is a significant barrier that discourages individuals and their families from getting the help they need because they fear being discriminated against. As we become more vocal and visible, we hope to dispel the many myths that surround mental illness in our community,” she continued.

Walkers will follow a short route ending at Heckscher Park where Rhona Silver, Owner of the New Huntington Townhouse and Jo-Ann Raia, President of the Pederson-Krag Center and Huntington Town Clerk will be honored for their ongoing commitment within the community for battling the stigma associated with mental illness. Jessica Lynch, Former Miss New York State, along with Tom and Donna O’Clair, the couple behind Timothy’s Law will also attend in a “show” of support. A special presentation will be made to honor former Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals Sol Wachtler who will be recognized for his efforts to overcome severe mental health obstacles in his life by using the challenges and experiences with his own mental health issues and sharing them publicly to make this world a better place for those living with mental illness. And, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will be honored for her continued support and endorsement of “The Keeping Families Together Act,” bipartisan federal legislation to improve access to care for children with emotional or mental disorders.

There will be an art show, music, food and plenty of exhibits to further encourage the walkÂ’s anti-stigma message. The day also offers a mix of talents from the mental health community, local schools and dignitaries.

“The toll that mental illness takes on our society cannot be ignored,” Sen. Clinton said. “The statistics are alarming. One in five people nationwide are affected by mental illness and the suicide rate among adolescents has skyrocketed over the past several years. I continue to support legislation to provide better services and ensure the rights of those suffering from mental illness including our children.”

Tom and Donna O’Clair are responsible for the effort to get Timothy’s Law passed by the New York Senate and the Assembly. The bill is named for Timothy O'Clair, their twelve-year-old son who was afflicted by mental illness and three years ago completed suicide. Because insurance companies routinely differentiate between individuals diagnosed with mental health disorders and those with physical disorders, Tom and Donna O'Clair spent years trying to access treatment for their son and Timothy was unable to get the care he needed for his problems. Timothy’s Law is intended to ensure that the state will provide coverage for mental health and chemical dependency that is on par with coverage for other illnesses. The O’Clair’s are responsible for bringing the issue of mental illness “parity” to the forefront of today’s legislative issues.

Those who would like to participate should gather at the Huntington Post Office at 12:45pm. The Walk will officially begin at 1pm and will include thousands of participants including over one hundred members from the Working Families Party along with the Chairman Chuck Pohanka. The Walk will end at Heckscher Park where walkers will be welcomed to the town by Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone. Transportation to the Walk throughout Long Island may be provided to those that request it. Bus stops have been scheduled at various Long Island locations such as Hands Across Long Island in Islip, Concern for Independent Living in Medford and Sayville Project in Sayville. For more information or to arrange transportation, contact 516-822-6111, ext. 252 in Nassau or 631-434-9277, ext. 337 in Suffolk.

25th AIDS Walk Boston to Take Place Sunday, June 6, 2010

25th AIDS Walk Boston to Take Place Sunday, June 6, 2010

AIDS Action Committee will mark the milestone of the 25th AIDS Walk in Boston by honoring 25 leaders whose contributions to the fight against AIDS over the last two-and-a-half decades have been invaluable.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 22, 2010

AIDS Action Committee, Inc. (AAC), New England’s largest AIDS service organization will hold the 25th AIDS Walk Boston (http://www. aidswalkboston. org) , Boston’s annual charity walk benefiting AAC. To mark the 25-year milestone, AAC is honoring 25 individuals (listed below) whose contributions to the fight against AIDS over the last two-and-a-half decades have been invaluable.

Despite the progress of the last 25 years, much work remains. In March, the U. S. Centers for Disease Control released statistics showing that men who have sex with men are 44 times more likely to contract HIV than other men. To date, 30,537 Massachusetts residents have been diagnosed with HIV and there are approximately 600 new infections each year. It is estimated that 21 percent of those infected with HIV are unaware of their status. Gay and bi men (35%) and injection drug users (24%) still account for the largest proportions of HIV infections in the state.

“Since 1999, rates of HIV infection in the Commonwealth have declined by half,” Haag said. “That’s terrific news, but we need to get the infection rate to zero. We need to have honest conversations about HIV status. We need to arm people with the tools and language that will help them stay safe. And we need to keep working to eliminate the shame and stigma that comes with an HIV/AIDS diagnosis.”

AIDS Walk Boston draws 10,000-15,000 participants; WCVB-TV StormTeam 5 meteorologist David Brown will emcee the event, which also includes a Wellness Festival and the Larry Kessler 5K run. (http://www. aac. org/site/PageServer? pagename=AIDSWALK_aboutrun)

Building upon innovations put in place for last year’s Walk, participants have multiple options for supporting and promoting the walk via social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. Donors can also contribute $10 simply by texting WALK to 27722 from their cell phones.

Macy’s Foundation is the Presenting Sponsor of this year’s Walk, marking the fourth year that Macy’s has partnered with the AIDS Action Committee to highlight the continuing needs of those with HIV and AIDS. Other corporate sponsors include Bruegger’s Bagels, Whole Foods, EMD Serono, Bristol Myers Squibb, Partners HealthCare, Stop & Shop, the TJX Foundation, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Blue Man Group.
