Lice Treatment Linked to Leukemia

Lice Treatment Linked to Leukemia

Shocking reports from a recent French study suggest that children who use the pesticide shampoos commonly used as head lice treatment are twice as likely to get leukemia.

Cordova, TN (PRWEB) February 16, 2006

Shocking reports from a recent French study suggest that children who use the pesticide shampoos commonly used as head lice treatment are twice as likely to get leukemia. No brand names were specified by the study’s findings, but there were several chemicals named as the main culprits: malathion, pyrethroid and lindane. Several of the leading pesticide shampoo brands in the U. S., including Rid, list a form of pyrethroid as an active ingredient.

INSERM, France’s national medical research organization, conducted the study by interviewing the parents of 280 children who had been newly diagnosed with acute leukemia, as well as 288 comparable children who did not have the disease. The conclusive evidence was that using chemical insecticide shampoos, particularly ones that include the chemicals listed above, almost doubles a child’s risk of developing leukemia. In addition, INSERM found that the risk of leukemia was also doubled in children whose mothers used insecticides around the home while pregnant and even after the birth.

According to the National Cancer Institute, cancer is the number one cause of death in children from age 1 to age 14, and leukemia accounts for 25 percent of all childhood cancers, affecting over two thousand American children each year. In light of the new evidence presented by INSERM, It’s extremely unsettling to think that some of these cases could have been prevented.

The problem that conscientious parents are faced with is that head lice is a fact of life in most elementary schools and, sooner or later, their child will most likely come home with lice nits in their hair and scalp. Considering the links between pesticide shampoos and leukemia, parents will probably choose to seek a safer treatment alternative. One product made of all natural ingredients is Licex, developed by Selmedica Healthcare,

Which the company claims begins to kill head lice within seven minutes, and kills all lice and their eggs in one 40 minute application, all with no chemicals.

“When it comes to your child’s life, it’s not worth the risk of using potentially harmful chemicals as a form of treatment. Licex is the all-natural, completely safe solution that caring parents are seeking,” says Katie May, scientist at Selmedica Healthcare.

Unemployment Spikes, But Women Fare Better Than Men

Unemployment Spikes, But Women Fare Better Than Men

While headlines tout the latest 7.6 percent unemployment rate as the highest in since 1992, that number does not tell the whole story. Since the recession began in December 2007, jobless rates for men rose from 4.4 percent to 7.6 percent. However, the number of unemployed women has only risen to 6.2 percent. Robert Graber, founder and CEO of WallStJobs. com, an online career site dedicated to the banking and brokerage community, thinks this is no accident.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 24, 2009

While headlines tout the latest 7.6 percent unemployment rate as the highest since 1992, that number does not tell the whole story. Since the recession began in December 2007, jobless rates for men rose from 4.4 percent to 7.6 percent. However, the number of unemployed women has only risen to 6.2 percent. Robert Graber, founder and CEO of WallStJobs. com, an online career site dedicated to the banking and brokerage community (http://www. wallstjobs. com/career/career. html), thinks this is no accident.

"For years, women have railed against pay inequity--female workers typically earn 80 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts, working fewer hours and getting fewer benefits," says Graber. "That discrepancy may work to their advantage in job retention now, as women are keeping their jobs at a much higher rate than men because they are less expensive."

While Graber says it may seem counterintuitive to think of unequal pay and benefits as a positive, he has a longer-term vision. As 82 percent of the pink slips being handed out go to men and women remain in the workforce at their highest levels in history, now making up nearly half of all workers, the talent pipelines at many companies will be skewed female. Graber believes that will give more women the opportunities to assume top posts at financial institutions, as well as in fields ranging from health care to consumer products, and even in politics, ultimately leveling the compensation fields, regardless of the worker's gender.

"We're witnessing the start of a new era of change, of equality, and of accountability. As women weather this economic storm as a result of previous slights in compensation and power, the 'men's clubs' of certain industries, including Wall Street, will be replaced with networks of powerful women who have succeeded in spite of dire economic circumstances," says Graber.

New Enterprise Forms Management from Access Speeds Patient Registration at Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific

New Enterprise Forms Management from Access Speeds Patient Registration at Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific

Hospital Enhances Clinical Processes and Simplifies Patient Admissions with Electronic Forms Automation Suite

Sulphur Springs, TX (PRWEB) December 22, 2009

When it comes to healthcare, the last thing clinical and administrative staff have time for is processing paper forms. That’s why some forward-thinking hospitals are switching to e-forms management.

The revenue cycle management team at Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific (REHAB) decided that the facility could eliminate the cost of ordering pre-printed forms from a third party vendor, reduce paper use and waste and simplify patient registration by replacing addressographs and the current process with a forms automation system. After evaluating several products, REHAB chose Access's new Enterprise Forms Management (EFM) suite.

“Access’s cutting-edge technology and knowledge of how healthcare systems work were decisive factors,” said Ruth Fearnow, systems analyst at REHAB. “Our positive interaction with Access’s sales and project management teams was also important.”

Fearnow and her colleagues chose to roll out EFM and Access’s e-Forms Repository (EFR) in the patient registration department (http://www. accesseforms. com/Solutions. cfm/Solutions/Admissions_and_Registration), and on clinical floors at the organization’s three outpatient clinics and nursing units. “The project manager was very accessible and responsive, which helped us stay on track during the project management process” Fearnow said. “The attentive, service-oriented project management and implementation teams were a great help in making the initial rollout.”

Access’s proven project planning and implementation methodology contributed to a hassle-free deployment.

“Because we did our preparation ahead of time, when the Access implementation team came on site, implementation of EFM and EFR went smoothly,” Fearnow said. “The implementation consultant was flexible enough to let me be hands-on with troubleshooting and that will help me administer the system in the future. We sent him home early because everything was finished sooner than expected.”

At Access, most implementation consultants have a background in healthcare IT and all go through a comprehensive training program that prepares them to meet the needs of healthcare organizations.
“Our consultant was very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with,” Fearnow said. “I would recommend Access to other facilities based on my experience. Sometimes when you purchase software you come across surprises that complicate the project, but this wasn’t the case with Access. Their professional services team followed through on everything that was promised during the sales cycle, and this consistency was very helpful.”

When a patient comes to REHAB’s registration desk, a registrar enters demographics into the QuadraMed Affinity HIS. Now, instead of gathering forms manually, registration runs an online report and the EFM Server captures the print stream, merges the patient’s information onto every form required for registration and prints the forms.

“Access’s EFM has definitely made the registration process faster and it provides a cost savings because we’re no longer purchasing forms from a vendor,” Fearnow said. “We will also be able to get rid of the cost and hassle of the addressograph machines.”

In addition to simplifying patient admissions, EFM and EFR are creating new efficiency in REHAB’s clinics. When a patient comes to a clinical floor, the nurses there have separate admissions processes. Previously, they used form packets that were pre-assembled by volunteers. These preassembled packets are no longer necessary now that the nurses can print forms on demand (http://www. accesseforms. com/Products. cfm/Products/eForms_Repository).

“With EFR our nurses can print forms on demand at their stations,” Fearnow said. “They always know they’re printing the correct version and the forms look a lot more professional.”

Planktos Answers Grim IPCC Climate Diagnosis with Affordable Green Marine Remedy

Planktos Answers Grim IPCC Climate Diagnosis with Affordable Green Marine Remedy

If the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change had consulted more doctors of ocean science, their report might have mentioned that we can effectively cure half the planet's CO2 ills just by healing our forgotten seas.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 2, 2007

Silicon Valley ecorestoration firm, Planktos, Inc. declared today that the dire "Climate Change 2007" report just released by the IPCC in Paris should rightfully rivet policy makers' attention, especially since the authors concede it is a highly conservative assessment. Indeed Planktos contends that the report tells much less than half the story, partly because far harsher views were edited out to achieve consensus, but mostly because the plight and promise of the blue 71% of the planet were fundamentally ignored.

According to Planktos CEO Russ George, "Too many climate scientists still regard the ocean simply as a lifeless thermodynamic system with interesting CO2-driven physics that now threaten our ports and coasts. Too few see it as the Earth's most vital living ecosystem which faces murderous CO2 threats of its own. And by closing their eyes to the ocean's life, they not only miss the worsening CO2-driven crises of acidification, plankton loss, and food chain collapse, they fail to recognize the enormous planet-cooling effects that restoring its health could achieve."

The Neglected Science of the Sea

Ocean scientists from NASA, NOAA and university labs have been warning for years that marine phytoplankton, Earth's most vital form of life, have been literally decimated since 1980, primarily by an increasing shortfall in wind-borne iron dust.

Often called the lifeblood of the planet, phytoplankton are the tiny marine plants that generate half the planet's oxygen, remove half its CO2, and feed every larger creature in the sea. Their growth and photosynthesis are highly dependent on micronutrient iron historically delivered to the open sea by dust storms from arid lands. That crucial supply has recently dwindled by nearly 35% thanks to modern agricultural practices and the soil-stabilizing greening effect of increasing CO2. Plankton populations have consequently declined more than 25% in many parts of the Pacific and over 10% globally. Plankton are therefore metabolizing 3-4 billion fewer tons of CO2 each year than they were just a generation ago, an amount equivalent to half of all our manmade emissions today..

The effects of this micronutrient are so dramatic, however, that every iron atom that we restore can catalyze the photosynthetic removal of over 100,000 molecules of atmospheric CO2. In other words, replenishing just a few hundred thousand tons of iron dust could reverse the open ocean's plankton decline, regenerate billions of tons of food for fisheries and whales, and pull down billions of tons of global warming CO2 as well. In fact, restoring plankton health back to 1980 levels would annually remove four to five times more carbon dioxide from the sky than instant universal compliance with the Kyoto Protocol.

Russ George concludes, "The IPCC report is clear. We face two immediate and equally critical challenges today: reducing the volume of our greenhouse gas emissions and removing the lethal surplus already in the air. Unfortunately, nearly all our policies, activism and media attention have focused just on emission reductions, the most difficult, expensive, and politically exhausting half of the problem. Nurturing trees and healing seas to reduce the existing excess, which IPCC scientists say could continue to afflict us for centuries, are either disregarded or actively opposed -- despite their affordability, effectiveness and the countless other environmental benefits they confer.

"We at Planktos are striving to correct this dangerous imbalance both with our climate forest parks in Europe and our plankton restoration pilot projects at sea. We have the science, skills and tools to turn this emergency around. We just need people and policy makers to start revering the powers of life and nature as much as they venerate industrial technology."

HSA Clearing Corp Announces Costa Rican Medical Care

HSA Clearing Corp Announces Costa Rican Medical Care

Working with the finest private hospitals and physicians in Costa Rica, Costa Rican Medical Care will help people save hundreds if not thousands of dollars on certain medical care procedures. According to a recent study by the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, the number of U. S. residents traveling across borders for medical care is expected to increase 700% -- from 750,000 in 2007 to 6 million in 2010.

Lake Geneva, WI (PRWEB) March 2, 2009

HSA Clearing Corp. the leading provider of Health Savings Account educational services to financial institutions, employee benefit companies and health agents, is announcing a new division, Costa Rican Medical Care. The new division will provide medical tourism services specializing in only Costa Rica.

With health care costs skyrocketing out of control in the United States, medical tourism has become a very attractive option for cost-conscious consumers seeking quality care at an affordable price. While many medical tourism providers are recommending travel half-way around the world to places like India and Singapore (twelve time zones away), Costa Rican Medical Care is focusing only on the excellent care available in Costa Rica, a beautiful, friendly country much closer to home and in the Central Time Zone. Costa Rica has the competitive advantage of geography, a stable economic and political system and an international reputation for the quality of its health care system

"Educating people on ways to save on health care has always been our main goal, and now more than ever, people need help. There are millions of people who have to pay hard-earned money out of their own pocket. Some have a Consumer Driven Health Plan or an HSA, and some simply have no insurance at all." said Tim Morales President of HSA Clearing Corp.

"Many of our banking customers are self-insured. Having a cost-efficient alternative to high cost care in the States will mean lowering costs for these institutions. For example, a hip replacement can cost as much as $70,000 in the US. However, the same procedure in Costa Rica, including all tests, surgery, physician costs, rehabilitation, and follow-up care in the U. S., travel, lodging and meals in Costa Rica can run about $15,000 -- all costs included"

Costa Rican Medical Care program is simple and stress-free. We provide the consumer with answers to their questions and let them know the approximate cost of their total trip. Patients (and their companions, if applicable) are picked up at the airport by an English-speaking guide. Hotel accommodations are carefully selected to provide convenience to the patient. The guide will accompany the patient to and from the doctor appointments. Following the surgery and recovery, our counselors will arrange for any further rehab or care that might be needed, and contract with an in-home service in the U. S. to provide further care if needed.

Our people in Costa Rica have been providing these services for many years to people from around the world. Their facilities are modern and patient care is state-of-the-art. Most physicians are trained U. S. trained and use the latest available technology and equipment. Both the medical and tourism staff speaks excellent English.

"With the thousands of health agents, employee benefit firms and customers of our HSA bank and credit union network across the country, offering Costa Rican Medical Care will help many people get and stay healthy and save money at the same time", Morales continued. "You would be surprised by the growing number of insurance companies that work with many of these providers and we hope to introduce more."

Sampling of Costa Rican Medical Care Services

Bariatric Surgery, Angioplasty, Heart By-Pass, Hip and Knee Replacement, Ophthalmology and Medical Check Ups, Dental Surgery and Care, Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, are some of the many healthcare services we can recommend.

Seniors Earn a Disappointing 1% While Banks See Double-Digit Profits

Seniors Earn a Disappointing 1% While Banks See Double-Digit Profits

The banks are earning double-digit profits, but they are only paying seniors as little as 1% on their savings account balances. How can this happen?

Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2006

Newspaper headline reads, “…Banks see double-digit profit gains” but there is more to the story than meets the eye. To be certain, shareholders are pleased, but is everyone happy?

"I don’t know how many banks get away with it, but they do… They pay seniors 1% on their savings while racking up double-digit profits for their shareholders," says Todd VanDenburg, a well-known financial educator and advocate for seniors in Santa Rosa, CA. "Earning the highest possible rate of return is important to everyone, but it is especially important to people that are no longer working hard at a job to earn a paycheck. When you are no longer receiving a paycheck, making your money work hard for you is the only way that you can protect yourself from one of the biggest risks facing most seniors today… Outliving their money!” adds Todd VanDenburg, an independent financial advisor, who teaches seniors 60+ how to preserve assets, increase their income, and reduce income taxes. “If you have money in a savings account at your local bank earning 1-2%, there are things that you can do to double or even triple your interest rate without giving up any safety or liquidity. So why isn’t everyone doing it? The answer we typically hear from seniors that we share this information with is ‘nobody ever told us’.”

Todd VanDenburg recently published The Inside Scoop on Equity Indexed Annuities, the most recent addition to “The Inside Scoop” series, and has been interviewed by Senior Market Advisor for his expertise on financial issues that concern seniors. Mr. VanDenburg has helped hundreds of seniors navigate their financial affairs and is a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®.

World Video Conferencing Market to Reach US$10.8 Billion by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc

World Video Conferencing Market to Reach US$10.8 Billion by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Video Conferencing market. Although currently tempered by the recent world economic recession, global market for video conferencing is expected recover poise and gain steady momentum in the medium-to-long term period to reach US$10.8 billion by the year 2015. Primary factors fingered to drive this growth include resurgence in business activity, renewed focus on cost savings exerted by post recession cost wary companies, continuing globalization of businesses, rising mobile workforce and greenfield deployments among small-and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and increase in deployments at executive systems and room systems. Increasing awareness on benefits of usage and encouraging demand from Asia-Pacific also augur well for the market.

San Jose, California (Vocus) October 29, 2010

The prolonged world economic recession has dampened enterprise communication markets, especially so in the developed countries. Despite cost advantages of innovative technologies, companies continue to remain wary of their investments. With the financial crisis led economic slowdown negatively impacting every company’s IT structure, world market for video conferencing stood significantly weakened during 2009 and 2010. Although popularly opined to be a recession proof IT investment, by virtue of its cost saving benefits, video conferencing nevertheless weakened under the financial pressure exerted by the stressed economic climate. Although important, Telepresence benefits, such as, reduction in corporate travel budgets, reduced costs of managing a dispersed workforce, and reduced carbon footprint, have been unable to completely stem the market’s erosion in the rate of growth. This is primarily because the length and depth of the current recession has been significant, and unusually pronounced and the contraction in business activity has been widespread across diverse industries including the traditionally resilient vectors of the IT industry.

Budgetary constraints, lack of capital for investments in IT assets and the general strategy of “doing more with less”, took its toll especially on the video conferencing systems market as spends on equipments took a steep fall. Lack of strong budgets to fund equipment upgradation and replacement has been cited as a major factor dragging down growth as a result of companies throwing deployment of video conferencing infrastructure and endpoints for regional offices onto the backburner until signs of an economic thaw. As a result of precautionary and reactionary measures adopted by companies, the years 2009, and 2010 notably witnessed declines in video conferencing investments especially in the banking and financial end-use sector. Revenues in the market also remained constrained as a result of migrating end-user preferences towards cheaper, and inexpensive smaller room/desktop videoconferencing/HD systems away from large room, immersive video conferencing systems While corporate spending on video conferencing solutions and endpoint remained muted, government investments in the technology withstood the pressure. The recession added to the pressure on the profitability of providers of on-demand video conferencing services that are already bogged down by steady declines in falling per minute pricing.

Despite the current struggles, outlook for video conferencing in the post recession period remains healthy given the fact that video/voice communications represent a mission-critical function for all enterprises across the world. Also, monetary cutbacks are just temporary strategies for the preservation of liquidity, and once the global economic scenario improves, companies will inevitability splurge on video conferencing solutions as a measure to optimize costs. The ability to collaborate across time zones and geographies is critical in decentralized working environments that need collaborative horizontal relationships within an enterprise. Although the impact of recession is expected to linger on into the immediate future, given the yet low visibility in economic recovery, companies are expected to get their act together in stemming any further delay in investing in efficiency-enhancing solutions such as video conferencing. Additionally, in the post recession period “Agility” will emerge to become a powerful tool for companies to recover and fight the lingering aftershocks of the global recession. Also, technology innovation resulting in improved video and audio quality bodes well for the faster adoption of video conferencing solutions.

As stated by the new market research report published on video conferencing, the US continues to remain the largest regional market. Asia-Pacific remains the fastest growing regional market, surging at a CAGR of more than 6.0% over the analysis period 2007-2015. Burgeoning economies, higher spending power, growth in wireless industry and fast developing IP infrastructure, are creating steady demand for video conferencing technology in the Asia-Pacific market. Regional powerhouses such as China and India are the primary growth drivers for video conferencing technology in the region. Video Conferencing Services Market represents the most prominent segment, growing at a CAGR of more than 4.3% over the analysis period. Improved quality, and ease-of-use of the videoconference services, have improved their degree of operation, thereby setting the pace for both growth and profitability in this segment.

Key players listed in the report include Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T Inc., Avaya, Inc., BT Conferencing, Wire One Communications, Inc., Emblaze-VCON Ltd., Global Crossing Limited, InterCall, Inc., Polycom, Inc., Sony Electronics, Inc., Sprint Nextel Corporation, TANDBERG, Verizon Business, and VTEL Products Corporation Inc.

The research report titled “Video Conferencing: A Global Strategic Business Report” announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of market trends, drivers, issues company profiles, mergers, acquisitions and other strategic industry activities. The report provides market estimates and projections in (US$) for US, Canada, Japan, Europe (France, Germany, UK, Italy, Spain, Russia and Rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific, and Latin America, among others. Psychiatrist Offers Advice for Achieving Balance in Our Lives

Psychiatrist Offers Advice for Achieving Balance in Our Lives

BookSurge proudly announces the publication of Evolution of a Psychiatrist, by Kenneth J. Headen, M. D.

Burlington, NC (PRWEB) June 4, 2005

BookSurge announces the publication of Evolution of a Psychiatrist, by Kenneth J. Headen, M. D.

According to Dr. Kenneth Headen, seasoned psychiatrist, proper maintenance and nurturing of the mind, body, and spirit is the ultimate goal of psychiatric intervention. Without this balance, it is increasingly difficult for us to achieve happiness and spiritual harmony in our lives. In Evolution of a Psychiatrist, Headen surmises that as a species, we have yet to evolve and master the chaos and lack of unity in our lives, though this evolution becomes increasingly more feasible through the practice of proper psychiatry.

Dr. HeadenÂ’s book, which carries a significant spiritual tone, will help the reader to understand both the beauty of a healthy mind, body, and spirit, and the necessity of free will and trial in our lives. The psychiatrist, with his extensive training in the physical and mental aspects of the human species, is the logical facilitator of a healthy existence.

About the Author

Growing up in rural North Carolina during the sixties created the perfect setting to begin molding a future African-American Psychiatrist. For Kenneth Headen, the journey began in Chatham County during the days of corporal punishment and segregation. During his time at Winston-Salem State University, Headen was surrounded by an overwhelmingly black student body. Four years in the integrated workforce as a Medical Technologist set the stage for entry into the professional world. The real transformation began in late 1986 at the University Of North Carolina School Of Medicine.

Ken's life ultimately developed upward momentum as much of the negative weight was traumatically filtered from his personality forever. A glimpse of the future began during a third year student clerkship in Psychiatry at Dorothea Dix State Mental Institution. He trained as a Resident Physician in Psychiatry at UNC after medical school, before beginning a career as a Psychiatrist in Burlington, N. C. at Alamance County Mental Health Center in 1996. Through that affiliation he eventually began a private practice, also continuing service to under-served patients in the community, a residential treatment facility, and the County Jail in the State Capital of Raleigh, NC.

Drake Foodmarkets Exclusive Interview with Bean Media Group and Australia's Best Magazine

Drake Foodmarkets Exclusive Interview with Bean Media Group and Australia's Best Magazine

Bean Media Group's interview with Drake Foodmarkets appeared in the award-winning magazine 'Australia's Best'. Drake's purchasing guru David Ronson discussed supply chain management strategies and how the company is so successful.

Also deliver them in the right way. They are not just interested in what people deliver, but how they deliver.

They know this is critical to their ability to plan for the future growth of business.

David Ronson, Confectionery/Bulk foods buyer for Drakes talks to Australia's Best Food & Drink about the importance of supply chain management to Drakes and why their suppliers are key to their success.

"The basic fundamentals of supply chain management and its importance to our business are simply that without stock there is nothing to sell. It is important to focus on minimising out of stocks and maximising stock on hand as this gives the consumer a broader range of options and convenience resulting in happy customers.

"Technology alone cannot solve the issue of out of socks, but people can. One thing that sets Drakes apart from the chains is that our managers have more line accountability and the power
To make localised ranging decisions. If suppliers cannot keep up with demand then their products are replaced with ones that will not be out of stock.

Suppliers soon get the message on just how highly having stock available is regarded in Drakes.
"The difficulty that independents are faced with is that there is less direct control through the supply chain process, as much of the product is warehoused by an external source.

Another factor that supports supply chain management is strong two-way communication with third parties. The better the communication is the more controlled the process will be from
Start to finish.

Drake Foodmarkets have a top to top agreement with key suppliers. Generally the healthier the relationship with a supplier is the more fruitful the partnership will be for both parties. Drakes undertake business plans with all key suppliers that generate quantifiable targets in key areas.

These targets are put in place with the goal of developing the business in
Identified areas.

"Suppliers have recognised the fact that an effective strategy through thorough market research and good communication leads to profitable results for both parties. Suppliers are key to the ongoing success of Drake Foodmarkets. It is this support that is vital in assisting us in countering the might of the duopoly. Building relationships with direct suppliers also helps in extending our range with products that are not supported by the chains. This enables Drakes to offer its customers a wider range and a better overall shopping experience".

Gerontechnology Consortium of Westchester Wins 2009 MetLife Foundation MindAlert Award at American Society on Aging Conference - United Hebrew Geriatric Center and Partners Recognized

Gerontechnology Consortium of Westchester Wins 2009 MetLife Foundation MindAlert Award at American Society on Aging Conference - United Hebrew Geriatric Center and Partners Recognized

The American Society on Aging, in collaboration with the MetLife Foundation, has announced that the Gerontechnology Consortium of Westchester won the MindAlert Award in the category for programs designed to enhance mental fitness for the general population of older adults. United Hebrew Geriatric Center (UGHC) is a founding member of the Consortium.

New Rochelle, NY (PRWEB) April 16, 2009

The American Society on Aging, in collaboration with the MetLife Foundation, has announced that the Gerontechnology Consortium of Westchester won the MindAlert Award in the category for programs designed to enhance mental fitness for the general population of older adults. United Hebrew Geriatric Center (UGHC) is a founding member of the Consortium.

Consortium representatives accepted the award at the Aging in America Conference of the American Society on Aging last month.

An innovative multifaceted research collaboration formed by several area organizations, the Gerontechnology Consortium of Westchester includes UHGC, Pace University, Westchester Community College, Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services through the Westchester Alliance Program and Fordham University.

The program creatively connects older adults living in all of UHGC's residences - including the nursing and rehabilitation center, Willow Towers Assisted Living and Soundview Apartments for Independent Living - to technology through civic engagement in an intergenerational environment. Specially-trained undergraduates assist the UHGC elders to overcome their fears of technology through a series of one-on-one paired personal contacts, assistive software and various technologies.

In addition to computer skills, the seniors benefit from bonding relationships with students, enhanced mental fitness and increased cognitive functioning. The program has benefited the older adults and students alike. The unique gerontechnology course teaches undergraduates the aging process, skills in instructing the elderly and computing technology.

The MindAlert Awards is a national project designed to recognize outstanding programs developed to improve mental stimulation and creative outlets in later life. Research has shown that cognitive decline is not an inevitable part of the aging process. New findings in brain health research offer a striking model of aging as a time of brain health and growth resulting in an opportunity to lead qualitatively better lives filled with more knowledge and wisdom--and an increased capacity to contribute to society.

The 2009 awards are given to organizations that have demonstrated high-quality, innovative programs, based on scientific evidence and that the programs offered by these organizations enhance functioning and quality of life or prevent functional decline in older adults.

"We are so pleased that the Gerontechnology program continues to win industry accolades," said Rita Mabli, UHGC president/CEO.

"The Review Committee found the Gerontechnology Consortium of Westchester collaboration to be very innovative, reaching a diverse number of older adults," said Chair of ASA-MetLife MindAlert Advisory Committee Dean Blevins. Review Committee members noted that this program truly engages older adults cognitively, physically and socially.

United Hebrew Geriatric Center is located at 391 Pelham Road, New Rochelle, New York 10801. For further information, contact Linda Forman at 914.632.2804 x224 or lforman (at) uhgc. org, or visit www. uhgc. org.

RETAILER USES WEBSITE TO PROMOTE TOWN, ENCOURAGE DAYTRIPPERS: A LOCAL GUIDE TO MONTCLAIR

RETAILER USES WEBSITE TO PROMOTE TOWN, ENCOURAGE DAYTRIPPERS: A LOCAL GUIDE TO MONTCLAIR

A small town retail store which launched an ecommerce website in April, has just added an innovative new feature - a local guide - aimed at encouraging regional daytrippers to visit their town and store.

(PRWEB) May 30, 2002

MONTCLAIR, New Jersey – May 30, 2002 – The locally popular pottery market, World Pottery, which launched its website: worldpottery. com in April, has just added a new feature aimed at encouraging regional daytrippers to come to their store: A Local Guide to Montclair.

The feature, a page of local links with brief editorial found at worldpottery. com/montclair functions as an advertisement for the storeÂ’s hometown of Montclair, New Jersey. World PotteryÂ’s President Joel Patenaude noticed the absence of a local website promoting the town when researching worldpottery. com.

“Montclair is such a terrific town and offers so much”, said Patenaude, who also lives in Montclair. “It is a regional destination, there is a lot to do outdoors and indoors, day and night. There is truly something for everyone. We wanted to reinforce this via our website.”

World Pottery is a destination shop, drawing garden and pottery enthusiasts from much of northern New Jersey and Manhattan in search of the perfect pot. “To encourage people to make the drive, or even a bus trip from Manhattan, we decided to create this orientation to our town” says Patenaude who calls the Montclair Guide page “enlightened self-interest.”

Visitors to worldpottery. com/montclair will find a featured highlight, currently the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens, as well as links to outdoor activities, weather, historic sites, sports, movies, the arts, nightlife and restaurants. “It’s not finished,” says Patenaude, adding that nothing about the website will ever be finished. “It is the nature of the internet, change is always needed.”

Worldpottery. com, strives to provide the public with unique, artful and functional pottery from around the world through the comfort and convenience of their home computer. Pottery inventory changes frequently but is often representative of artisans from South Africa, Mexico, Ghana, Great Britain, Kenya, Morocco, Southeast Asia and the United States. Customers are encouraged to inquire about specific items via email or in person. “We maintain a wish list,” says Patenaude.

Future plans for www. WorldPottery. com include addition of container garden advice and care tips, a newsletter and container garden contests. All products purchased online are shipped via UPS ground.

About World Pottery the store: World Pottery is located on 100 Grove Street in Montclair, N. J. and was founded in 2000 by owner and Montclair resident, Joel Patenaude. World Pottery has one of the largest selections of imported garden pottery ever assembled and prices are often below normal retail. Located in an old gas station, World Pottery is a “find” for pottery enthusiasts. “We sell vases and some odds and ends but mostly it’s garden pots,” says owner Joel Patenaude. World Pottery recently launched a website: www. WorldPottery. com in an effort to bring its collection of world-wide functional pottery to gardeners around the country.

About Container Gardening: While drought conditions worry many garden-related business, World Pottery’s Patenaude says the small amounts of water needed to keep container plants healthy can actually make this form of gardening more popular during water shortages, especially if one is creative. “The water from one pot of steamed vegetables – once it has cooled off – can be enough for several small potted plants.”

New Health Trend in American Homes

New Health Trend in American Homes

The Sauna Business is Hot; New Trend is Heating up AmericaÂ’s Homes

LAKEWOOD, CO (PRWEB) September 21, 2005

As baby boomers continue to get older and Generation X officially turning 40 this year, a hot new trend is developing across the nation: Far infrared sauna sales are heating up. In fact, according to Aqua Magazine far infrared sauna sales have been rising rapidly at more than 50 percent each year for the last 2 years.

According to David Floyd of LuxSauna Inc., based in Lakewood, Colorado, the increase in sauna sales is due to a number of factors: health benefits, detoxifying, weight loss; as much as 600 calories are burned during a 30 minute session, as well as its healing affects on arthritis, back pain and other body aches and pains.

The benefits of traditional saunas have been known for over 2000 years in various countries from Finland to Japan to Turkey. Thanks to a new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the health-promoting effects of far infrared saunas might finally get a bit more of the attention they deserve. Far infrared saunas are sort of the "new kid on the (sauna) block," having become very popular in Japan over the past century. Far infrared saunas are a bit different than the traditional hot rock or steam versions. Far infrared waves warm things without actually heating up the air in between the heat source and the object. So in a far infrared sauna, the air is warm and dry and the infrared heat penetrates deeper and faster into the human body, as opposed to the humid, surface heat of traditional saunas.

Americans are just now discovering the health benefits of the new infrared saunas and are responding in droves, adding them to their homes. In fact, saunas are rapidly becoming a “must have” in many American households.

“First it was the hot tub, then a home office, then a media room now the must have in many homes is the sauna room,” explained Floyd. “People are making specific places in their homes for the sauna or are renovating certain areas such as a bathroom to include the sauna.”

With the new technology of the infrared saunas, Americans are saving money and time as well as adding an investment to their home. The new saunas are ready to use in less than five minutes (lower electric bills); more compact – allowing homeowners to use them in smaller areas; and the temperature is lower by 100 degrees – making the sauna more tolerable for longer periods of time.

“The saunas themselves are now lower in price,” says Floyd. “And they’re more pleasant to be in – they all come with an AM/FM compact disk player to entertain while soothing you to a healthier body.”

Located in Lakewood, Colorado, LuxSauna is a privately owned company that specializes in a variety of infrared saunas. The company sells more than 300 saunas per month across the country. Their website is located at www. luxsauna. com.

Advance in DuPont™ Kalrez® Parts Overcomes Challenges of Harsh Oil and Gas Environments

Advance in DuPont™ Kalrez® Parts Overcomes Challenges of Harsh Oil and Gas Environments

Reliability engineering for harsh oil and gas drilling environments such as deep water and shale has just taken a major step forward with the advent of DuPont™ Kalrez® 0090 perfluoroelastomer O-rings.

Newark, DE (Vocus) April 14, 2010

Reliability engineering for harsh oil and gas drilling environments such as deep water and shale has just taken a major step forward with the advent of DuPont™ Kalrez® 0090 perfluoroelastomer O-rings.

In rigorous third-party testing for rapid gas decompression (RGD) resistance per the NORSOK M-710 Rev 2 standard, Kalrez® 0090 O-rings received the best possible rating of 0000. The tests were conducted by the independent Materials Engineering Research Laboratory Ltd. (MERL) in the U. K. In contrast to Kalrez® 0090 parts, other competitive seals can pass the minimum requirements of NORSOK M-710 with multiple internal cracks developed during test cycling.

“The 0000 rating for RGD resistance is critically important for customers,” said Arun Gopalakrishnan, global market segment leader -- DuPont Performance Polymers. “O-rings with ratings poorer than Kalrez® 0090 rating of 0000 are likely to suffer greater cracking when exposed to pressure cycling. Once a crack is initiated, gas will accumulate at the next pressure cycle, eventually leading to a complete crack across the section, which could lead to seal failure.”

MERL has also certified the excellent resistance of Kalrez® parts to sour fluid ageing, including multi-phase fluids containing hydrogen sulfide. Kalrez® parts withstand attack by more than 1,800 chemicals and solvents in all. In addition, they retain high levels of elasticity and recovery even after long-term exposure to temperatures up to 250°C (482°F) and have excellent extrusion resistance as well.

The advent of Kalrez® 0090 parts adds another element to the DuPont portfolio of high-performance components and materials for the oil and gas industry. Another valued portfolio item, Vespel® CR-6100 parts, have proven in the field their ability to perform as back-up rings in a wide range of high-pressure pumps used in hydrocarbon processing and refining. Vespel® CR-6100 parts outperform those made from alternative materials such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK) in several ways. These include higher temperature resistance, more mechanical strength and nearly universal chemical resistance. Moreover, they are recognized under the latest edition of the ISO 13709 International Standard and the American Petroleum Institute’s API 610 Standard.

Both Kalrez® 0090 and Vespel® CR-6100 parts build on more than 30 years of DuPont experience in meeting the needs of the oil and gas industry for high-performance parts.

Exercise Success for People Over 50: Reports of Improved Fitness, Circulation and Balance

Exercise Success for People Over 50: Reports of Improved Fitness, Circulation and Balance

The combination of a gentle bounce, stretching and strength training proves to be most effective in addressing senior health concerns. Dr. James Rota has developed a unique exercise for seniors, which has seen successful results in improving circulation, bone density, balance, weight loss, and overall fitness.

Paso Robles, CA (PRWEB) February 9, 2010

According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 90 percent of American adults are so sedentary they could almost be reclassified as statues. It is important that people over age 50 find a way to address bone loss, circulation, balance issues, constipation, weight loss and muscle atrophy. Seniors have been reporting improvement in these conditions with a new exercise called Bouncercise.

After years of development, Dr. James Rota, age 75, describes Bouncercise as a gentle bounce combined with a suspended stabilization system which enables effective stretching, resistance training, and aerobic workout. “This exercise is fun and easy to do, and is very efficient. Bouncercise is a realistic solution to exercise apathy.”

Dr. Rota also developed the Freedom Spring System to facilitate the Bouncercise movement. It consists of a high qualityrebounder or mini trampoline, along with a resistance and stabilization system that attaches to a wall or doorway. While performing a gentle bounce, seniors hold onto the suspended bar or resistance cords.

According to the National Safety Council, falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths in older adults. Regarding her experience with Bouncercise, Elinor Kruzic, age 84, reported, “I had a problem with my inner ear and lost my balance completely. This has helped me in two months to regain my balance. I can walk now. I don’t fall down.”

Norma Wenderoth, age 72, who has a left-side paralysis due to a stroke says, “I couldn’t do anything to get an aerobic workout. I can’t swim fast enough, I can’t walk fast enough. On the Freedom Spring, I get 20 minutes of aerobics every day.”

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1 in every 2 women over the age of 50 are at risk for an osteoporosis-related fracture. No matter what your age, strength exercises will increase bone density, which reduces the likelihood of fractures.

Wayne L. Westcott, Ph. D. (fitness research director at the South Shore YMCA, and author of 20 fitness books) says, “Research clearly confirms the importance of resistance training for effectively reversing the muscle loss, metabolic slowdown, and strength decrement associated with the aging process.” He further states that “strength training can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, low back pain and depression.”

With all the research available, it is clear that exercise addresses a host of physical conditions that are daily concerns of the changing body of the mature adult. “The main components of physical fitness are cardiorespiratory workout, muscle strength and endurance, and flexibility. Bouncercise creates a synergistic effect of all them working together simultaneously,” says Dr. Rota.

Dr. Rota’s own journey includes a compelling story of how he survived industrial levels of mercury in his body to recovering from a nearly severed leg. “I originally developed Bouncercise to detoxify my body, but it also was decisively instrumental in successfully rehabilitating my severely broken leg.” In fact, Dr. Rota, age 75, made such a thriving recovery, that he was able to dance with Edyta Sliwinska from Dancing with the Stars. He easily kept up with the 27 year old professional dancer, as can be seen in Dr. Rota’s channel on YouTube. com.

Dr. Rota holds Bouncercise classes at his office in Los Angeles. In addition to Bouncercise training, the class also includes discussions on detoxification, nutrition, and weight management. For more information about Bouncercise classes, visit http://www. FreedomSpring. com.

With life being so busy, using time efficiently is an important factor in making choices for health and everyday needs. Bouncercise combines all the components of fitness and brings the well-documented benefits of the gentle bounce to people of all abilities, along with effective results.

About Dr. James Rota:

Dr. Rota, a practicing dentist for 45 years, has been a UCLA Assistant Professor and a pioneer in Biological Dentistry. As a biological dentist for the past 25 years, he helped develop the protocols for safe mercury removal from the mouth, which are commonplace in biological dentistry today. He is currently the director of http://www. TALKInternational. com, a resource website for information regarding mercury toxicity. Dr. Rota has also received multiple patents involving dental ergonomics, the Freedom Spring System and Bouncercise.

Neurofeedback Therapy Shows Promising Results in the Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Other High Incidence Medical Disorders

Neurofeedback Therapy Shows Promising Results in the Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Other High Incidence Medical Disorders

Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center has introduced a Neurofeedback Therapy Program as part of a cutting-edge, integrative medical approach for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other common brain/mood disorders, including depression, autism, addiction, head injury, migraine, epilepsy and insomnia.

Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) September 19, 2005

Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center has introduced a Neurofeedback Therapy Program as part of a cutting-edge, integrative medical approach for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other common brain/mood disorders, including depression, autism, addiction, head injury, migraine, epilepsy and insomnia.

The statistics are alarming for many of these conditions and disorders. According to a recent survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 4.4 million children, aged 4 to 17 (7.8 percent of U. S. children) have been diagnosed with ADHD. More than half of these children are taking medication for this disorder and most of them will continue to exhibit symptoms as adults.

It has also been estimated that 18.8 million American adults suffer from depression, equating to almost 10 percent of the U. S. adult population. Another 19 million Americans aged 18 to 54 suffer from anxiety disorders, representing 13 percent of this age group.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U. S. Department of Education, and the Autism Society of America, the fastest growing developmental disability is autism, with 1 to 1.5 million Americans diagnosed reflecting a 10 to 17 percent annual growth rate that is continuing to rise. Their collective research concludes that early intensive behavioral intervention has been shown to produce marked changes in the skill deficits and problem behavior associated with autism.

Dr. John Dye, attending physician at the Medical Center and Department Chair of Mind-Body Medicine at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, has been collaborating with Leslie Sherlin, M. S., adjunct faculty member and certified Neurofeedback practitioner, to develop the Neurofeedback Therapy Program at the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center.

Neurofeedback therapy, a type of EEG biofeedback, actually helps the individual to train their brain naturally to improve attention, focus and neurological activity related to many bodily functions. Neurofeedback training, sometimes in combination with medication or complementary naturopathic approaches, helps to improve brain functions, which can provide relief to people suffering from the sometimes debilitating effects of emotional, neurological and physical disorders and symptoms.

The Neurofeedback Therapy Program is multifaceted and begins with a comprehensive diagnostic workup of the patient that includes an assessment of their symptoms, and health/family history. The evaluation and treatment options also include non-invasive, painless EEG brain mapping (QEEG); testing for cognitive functions, metabolic factors, nutrient status, and food allergies; specialized diagnostics for attention deficit disorders; screening for heavy metals and other environmental factors; and technologically advanced neurofeedback training. Once an extensive evaluation has been completed, an individualized and detailed therapy and treatment plan will be developed for the patient.

The combination of naturopathic medical care with the Neurofeedback Therapy Program is a personalized approach to patient care to address ADHD, depression, autism and other brain and neurological conditions. Neurofeedback, involving one-on-one supervised sessions, has been shown in numerous studies to be a safe and effective treatment alternative in these conditions.

According to Dr. Dye, "The scientific evidence for neurofeedback in improving brain function is quite impressive. What excites me is the potential for even more dramatic results when we prescribe complementary naturopathic remedies to stimulate and improve brain metabolism naturally. The possibilities for combining neurofeedback protocols with nutritional and natural medicines, heavy metal detoxification, and specific mind-body healing techniques, have created new opportunities for clinical results far superior to either drug or neurofeedback therapy alone."

There are those in our society tired of the quick fix, pop-a-pill mentality so prevalent today in medical circles. The Neurofeedback Therapy Program is a well rounded approach to treating serious medical conditions based on sound naturopathic and integrative treatment modalities that focus on promoting wellness in the individual, no matter what age they are.

Ojai, CA (PRWEB) May 1, 2009

Mission Blue Design (http://www. missionbluedesign. com (http://www. missionbluedesign. com)) today officially announced the opening of their cutting-edge globally conscious BLUE design firm with offices in San Francisco and Ojai California.

Mission Blue Design serves a wide range of needs from small-scale renovations to large-scale master planning. Their services include sustainable interior design for homes, businesses, educational facilities, hotels, spas, restaurants and conference centers. From small-scale eco-friendly renovations to large-scale master planning, Mission Blue Design has the experience to turn visions into reality on-time and on-budget from concept to completion.

What is Blue Design? BLUE design integrates four streams of sustainability: environmental, economic, social, and cultural. Addressing these four streams is critical to long-term health of both the inhabitants of a space and the planet as we integrate the interior environment with the eco-environment.

With more than 40 years combined experience in the industry, Design Principals Kathleen McMullen Coady and MaryAnne Hines have worked in both residential and commercial interior design and construction, as well as for international sustainable businesses. Mission Blue Design evolved over many years of designing with the mindset of creating beautiful harmonious spaces that raise the quality of life with minimal impact on the environment.

"Blue/Green interior design is not a fad," says McMullen Coady. "It is the future. Sustainable building and design practices are quickly becoming mainstream. Addressing the symbiotic relationship of people and the environment in which they live, work and play is critical to a harmonious and healthy existence."

In service of this future, Mission Blue Design has published a series of free informative articles on ways to green your business or home, including tips and tricks for choosing eco-friendly carpet, eco-friendly flooring, and healthy sustainable furnishings. See: http://www. missionbluedesign. com/resources/ (http://www. missionbluedesign. com/resources/) for these free sustainable design articles.

Mission Blue develops creative and effective interior design solutions that consistently generate beautifully unique, innovative and highly functional spaces for both homes and commercial businesses. They strive to reuse, recycle and reduce wherever possible. "Our goal is to minimize our impact on the environment by designing smart," says Hines. "Our designs are consistently beautiful and functional, and our products are chosen based on conscious, well-researched purchasing methods."

The firm recently completed the interior design of the Ojai Foundation Council House, a modern spiritual practice space for the Ojai-based nonprofit. Laura Whitney, President of the Ojai Foundation, says (Kathleen McMullen-Coadys') "key design decisions were crucial not only to the "story" of this green building and modeling sustainable choices but also to the look and feel achieved in our Council House. For example, she steered us away from bamboo flooring and led us to Texas mesquite, a more environmentally-sound choice with a simply gorgeous effect."

Back to School: NAMI Education Classes Starting for Families of People with Mental Illness; Some Available at VA Facilities

Back to School: NAMI Education Classes Starting for Families of People with Mental Illness; Some Available at VA Facilities

New fall classes geared towards caregivers of individuals living with mental illness.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) September 8, 2010

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI (http://www. nami. org/)) Family-to-Family Education Program offers new fall classes for caregivers of individuals living with mental illness. Classes are available at a number of locations in communities across the country, including some Department of Veterans Affairs facilities.

Family-to-Family (http://www. nami. org/Template. cfm? Section=Family-to-Family&lstid=605) is a free, 12-week course led by trained family members who are experienced in caring for a loved one with serious mental illness. The course is available in English and Spanish. Each year, NAMI offers approximately 800 Family-to-Family classes in 49 states. Find a local class.

“Many people who come to a Family-to-Family class find it’s the first time that they connect with people who really understand their experiences,” said Mike Fitzpatrick, NAMI executive director. “Participants learn from and support one another as they work to best help their loved ones.”

Family-to-Family participants receive current information on serious mental illness, learn about proven treatments, develop problem-solving skills and communication techniques and explore local community services and supports.

Serious mental illnesses include major depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia.

Psychiatric Services, the monthly journal of the American Psychiatric Association, recently reported that parents of adult children with mental illness who participate in education and support groups such as those offered by NAMI experience more positive outcomes and fewer burdens than those who do not. Results of a randomized trial by Lisa Dixon, M. D., Ph. D. and Alicia Lucksted, Ph. D. of the University of Maryland on the effectiveness of NAMI's Family-to-Family education program also are expected in early 2011.

Stresses associated with caring for a loved one often affect the health and relationships of caregivers themselves. A Caregiving in the U. S. 2009 (http://www. nami. org/template. cfm? Section=Top_Story&template=/ContentManagement/ContentDisplay. cfm&ContentID=90594&lstid=809) study echoed findings in NAMI reports on schizophrenia and depression. In NAMI’s depression survey, 50 percent of caregivers who responded had been diagnosed with depression themselves.

About NAMI
NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. NAMI has over 1100 state and local affiliates that engage in research, education, support and advocacy.

Massage Envy Shares Why Men Need Massages Too, Good for the Heart and the Muscles

Massage Envy Shares Why Men Need Massages Too, Good for the Heart and the Muscles

While June is typically known for Father's Day celebrations, cities around the United States will celebrate Men's Health Week (June 11-17), to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. While many of these health problems are treated with medications, nutrition, and behavior modification, doctors and therapists also prescribe massage therapy, which can also be a powerful ally in a health and wellness program for men. Massage Envy announces the debut of the fourth San Diego County location in San Marcos, California. The clinic opens on Friday, June 1, 2007 and is located at 145 South Las Posas in the Grand Plaza Shopping Center. As the fastest growing national franchise in the country, Massage Envy takes massages out of the elite and makes them available to everyone. With Men's Health Week on the horizon, there are no excuses for men to not take advantage of the benefits of massage.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 1, 2007

While June is typically known for Father's Day celebrations, cities around the United States will celebrate Men's Health Week (June 11-17, 2007), to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. While many of these health problems are treated with medications, nutrition, and behavior modification, doctors and therapists also prescribe massage therapy, which can also be a powerful ally in a health and wellness program for men.

While massage therapy is often seen as a luxurious treat for women, men can benefit as well. More than 29 million men in the United States suffer from high blood pressure and hypertension. Research shows that with massage, high blood pressure patients demonstrate lower diastolic blood pressure and anxiety. By incorporating massages into one's health and wellness program, men also can enjoy stress relief, pain management, and boost immune function.

Now, both men and women have an option to enjoy affordable and professional massage treatments on a consistent basis. Massage Envy announces the debut of the fourth San Diego County location in San Marcos, California. The clinic opens on Friday, June 1, 2007 and is located at 145 S. Las Posas in the Grand Plaza Shopping Center. As the fastest growing national franchise in the country, Massage Envy takes massages out of the elite and makes them available to everyone. With Men's Health Week on the horizon, there are no excuses for men to not take advantage of the benefits of massage.

When traditional day spas are offering one-hour treatments for an average $100, Massage Envy really brings the affordability to everyone allowing them the ability to enjoy de-stressing and relaxation every day instead of just for special occasions. Introductory massages are $39 for a one-hour session. However, Massage Envy members receive unlimited massages for the $39 rate. What really makes the concept stand out is that the price is the same for the treatment, regardless of what type of treatment you have whether it is Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Sports or Swedish massage, it is always the same. That is a keen benefit as traditional day spas often charge a great deal more for specific types of treatments. Between June 1 and 17, 2007, the new San Marcos location is giving a free half-hour massage gift certificate with every new membership purchased by a man, in celebration of Men's Health Week.

The San Marcos Massage Envy location is open seven days a week 8 a. m. to 10 p. m. Monday through Friday, Saturdays from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m. and Sundays from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. to accommodate everyone's schedule. The clinic is the 223rd Massage Envy location to open in the United States.

The professional, convenient and affordable membership-based program brings together experienced, Licensed/Certified/Registered Massage Therapists in a serene spa environment. The new San Marcos Massage Envy offers more than 4,000 available appointment times each month. It's not only affordable, but convenient as well.

To book your appointment at the new San Marcos Massage Envy, please call (760) 410-0288. Gift certificates are available as a unique Father's Day gift for the men in your life.

In addition to San Marcos, there are three other Massage Envy locations open currently in San Diego County including Carlsbad, Mira Mesa, and Point Loma. Other parts of the county that will see Massage Envy locations this year include Carmel Valley, Eastlake, Escondido and La Jolla/UTC. For more information on Massage Envy and clinics coming near you soon, visit http://www. massageenvy. com (http://www. massageenvy. com).
