Earth Day "Cell Phones for Charity" Recycling Drive Win-Win for Nonprofits and Environment

The American Cancer Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Feed the Children, and The Salvation Army will partner with cell phone recycling giant, PaceButler Corporation by holding a "Cell Phones for Charity" Earth Day recycling drive. During the month of April PaceButler aims to collect one hundred thousand used cell phones, which will be recycled and the purchase price donated to nonprofits as requested by donors.

Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) April 17, 2009

The American Cancer Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Feed the Children, and The Salvation Army will partner with cell phone recycling (http://www. pacebutler. com) giant, PaceButler Corporation by holding a "Cell Phones for Charity" Earth Day recycling drive. During the month of April PaceButler aims to collect one hundred thousand used cell phones, which will be recycled and the purchase price donated to nonprofits as requested by donors.

"Today, many businesses have idle cell phones simply sitting in supply closets and most households have 3 or 4 phones collecting dust in junk drawers," states Dustin Wiese, PaceButler Site Director. "The Cell Phones for Charity recycling drive will put those phones to great use by raising money for worthy causes."

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website, www. epa. gov, only 10 percent of cell phones are recycled each year. EPA reports state that many cell phones contain lead, arsenic, beryllium, mercury and other harmful elements. These elements are known for causing severe harm to the human body. Due to this and other negative impacts of unwanted phones, some states have enacted legislation to encourage cell phone recycling by providers

"It is great to see that by recycling these old cell phones (http://www. pacebutler. com/cell. cfm) , we not only prevent potential harm to humans and the environment, but also advocate good health by supporting such organizations as the American Cancer Society," stated Joe Franko, Vice President of PaceButler.

PaceButler Corporation has recycled millions of used and obsolete cell phones, which has kept countless tons of waste and harmful materials out of the landfills. Through these recycling activities, millions of dollars have been raised by non-profits, charities, and businesses throughout the United States.

"PaceButler has been a tremendous supporter of Feed The Children," said Larry Jones, president and founder of Feed The Children. "We know the people at PaceButler want to make a difference in the world and in their community. We thank them for their commitment to helping children and families in need."

"Working with PaceButler has been a win-win situation for us," stated Susan Kramer spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. "The proceeds we receive by collecting used cell phones go to helping cancer patients who otherwise would not have the money for the services they need. This is such a simple fundraiser and PaceButler makes it easy to do."

PaceButler Corporation was founded by Oklahoma native, Tom Pace in 1987. In 1999 PaceButler was awarded the Oklahoma Quality Award and CEO, Tom Pace was awarded the Model CEO Award by the Council of Growing Companies.

Surgical Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation will Drive Growth in the European Electrophysiology Mapping and Ablation Market over Coming Years

Surgical Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation will Drive Growth in the European Electrophysiology Mapping and Ablation Market over Coming Years

According to a new report by Millennium Research Group (MRG), the European market (comprised of France, Germany, Italy, and the UK) for EP mapping and ablation will grow by almost $100 million throughout the next 5 years, reaching annual sales of $220 million in 2009.

(PRWEB) May 11, 2005

The use of probes in recreating the Cox-Maze procedure in the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) has garnered interest and will significantly drive electrophysiology (EP) device revenue growth in Europe. According to a new report by Millennium Research Group (MRG), the European market (comprised of France, Germany, Italy, and the UK) for EP mapping and ablation will grow by almost $100 million throughout the next 5 years, reaching annual sales of $220 million in 2009.

Nearly 100,000 electrophysiology studie(s) (EPS) and 60,000 catheter ablations procedures were performed in Europe in 2004. This number is expected to increase to 118,000 EPS and 99,000 catheter ablations by 2009. Although EP catheter-based procedure growth is large, 4.1% for EPS and 11.5% for catheter ablations, it pales in comparison to the rapid growth expected to occur in surgical ablation procedure volumes over the next 5 years. The number of surgical ablation procedures in Europe will increase from 6,600 in 2004 to 12,900 by 2009. This growth is largely driven by the aging European population and new device availability.

In 2004, the European surgical ablation market was valued at about $11 million. Less invasive surgical ablation devices, using energy sources such as microwave and laser, will enable the surgical ablation market to experience substantial growth by treating patients suffering from AF—the most common arrhythmia in Europe with a prevalence of over 1.1 million. Procedure growth will increase as physicians begin to recognize the benefits of surgical ablation and its ability to cure AF, and as hospitals increase their funding of the procedure. This will drive the revenues for surgical ablation in Europe to over $24 million by 2009.

MRG's European report is part of its Global Markets for the Electrophysiology Mapping and Ablation Market series, which includes analysis on the United States, Japan, and key industry competitors. The global report series covers over 20 competitors including St. Jude Medical (STJ), Biosense Webster (JNJ), Boston Scientific (BSX), Medtronic (MDT), C. R. Bard (BCR), GE Healthcare (GE), EP Medsystems (EPMD), Cardima (CRDM), and CryoCath Technologies (CYT–TSX).

A leading source of competitive intelligence, MRG is now the largest provider of medical device market research in the world. Located in Toronto, Canada, MRG covers global markets and has pioneered reporting of numerous emerging products.

Christendom College to Offer Novena for the Health of Pope John Paul II

Christendom College to Offer Novena for the Health of Pope John Paul II

(PRWEB) September 28, 2003

Front Royal, Va. – In anticipation of Pope John Paul II’s twenty-fifth anniversary as Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, the entire Christendom College community has made plans to say a novena for the health of the Pope beginning on October 7 (the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary) and ending on October 15 (the eve of the Pope’s 25th Anniversary).

“Our current Holy Father has been such a blessing for our Church and to the world as a whole,” said Christendom College President Timothy O’Donnell. “It is amazing that Pope John Paul II is now the fourth longest reigning pope in the history of the Catholic Church, with only Pope St. Leo XIII, Blessed Pius IX, and St. Peter having longer pontificates. We can only hope that he continues to gloriously reign for years to come, and for that to happen, we all need to pray that His Holiness has the good health to do so.”

The novena to be said is based on the novena for the reigning pontiff promulgated by Pope Leo XIII on May 8, 1896. Dr. OÂ’Donnell encourages all Roman Catholics to join the Christendom College community in saying this most important novena.

A Novena for the Holy Father

In Honor of the 25th Anniversary of his Election

October 16, 2003

Days 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

Lord Jesus, shelter our Holy Father the Pope under the protection of Thy Sacred Heart. Be Thou his light, his strength and his consolation.

V. Let us pray for our Pontiff, Pope John Paul II

R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him to be blessed upon the earth and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon Thy servant, John Paul II, our Supreme Pontiff, and direct him, according to Thy loving kindness, in the way of eternal salvation; that, of Thy gift, he may ever desire that which is pleasing unto Thee and may accomplish it with all his might.

Our FatherÂ… Hail MaryÂ… Glory beÂ

Days 2, 4, 6, 8

O Lord, we humbly kneel at Thy feet and beg Thee to preserve, defend and save the Sovereign Pontiff for many years. He is the Father of the great fellowship of souls and our Father as well. On this day, as on every other day, he is praying for us also, and is offering unto Thee with holy fervor the Sacred Victim of love and peace.

Wherefore, O Lord, turn Thyself toward us with eyes of pity as we, forgetful of ourselves, pray above all for him. Do Thou unite our prayers with his and receive them into the bosom of Thine infinite mercy, as a sweet savor of active and fruitful charity, whereby the children are united in the Church to their Father. All that he asks of Thee this day, we too ask it of Thee in union with him.

Whether he weeps or rejoices, whether he hopes or offers himself as a victim of charity for his people, we desire to be united with him. We desire that the cry of our hearts should be made one with his. Of Thy great mercy grant, O Lord, that not one of us may be far from his mind and his heart in the hour that he prays and offers unto Thee the Sacrifice of Thy Blessed Son.

At the moment when our venerable High Priest, holding in his hands the very Body of Jesus Christ, shall say to the people over the chalice of benediction these words: “The peace of the Lord be with you always,” grant, O Lord, that Thy sweet peace may come down upon our hearts and upon all the nations with new and manifest power. Amen.

(Pope Leo XIII, May 8, 1896)

The faithful who devoutly assist at any of the religious services held every year on a day dedicated to the Sovereign Pontiff, either to celebrate solemnly the praises of the Roman Pontiff and to call to mind the countless benefits which he has hitherto bestowed upon the whole world, or to give thanks to God for the preservation of the life of the Supreme Ruler of the Church and at the same time to obtain from Almighty God the help he needs in ruling the Church, exposed as she is to so many dangers, may gain a plenary indulgence, if in addition they go to confession, receive Holy communion and pray for the intentions of the Pope.

PharmacyChecker. com Begins Blog About Americans' Access to Affordable Medication

To help American consumers recognize forces that act against or in favor of their ability to get low cost medication, PharmacyChecker. com launched a new blog, "Online Pharmacy and Prescription Drug Review." Initial articles expose two groups working against consumer access to Canadian and foreign online pharmacies: The Partnership for Safe Medicines (SafeMedicines. org) and LegitScript.

White Plains, NY (PRWEB) March 4, 2010

PharmacyChecker. com, the leading independent online pharmacy verification company, has launched a blog to help the public understand and recognize the forces affecting their access to safe and affordable medication. The new blog is called the Online Pharmacy And Prescription Drug Review (http://online-pharmacy-and-prescription-drug-review. com/) and can also be found at http://www. PharmacyChecker. com/blog (http://www. PharmacyChecker. com/blog).

"This blog is the second phase in our work to help Americans find safe and affordable medicine," said Tod Cooperman, MD, President and Founder of PharmacyChecker. com. "Our Vice President, Gabriel Levitt, and I felt that it was not enough to provide pharmacy ratings and price comparisons when there are powerful interests working against America's access to lower cost medication. We will reveal what is going on behind the scenes in government and industry with the hope that this will help Americans take a more active role in making healthcare affordable."

Two of the initial four postings on the blog expose groups attempting to frighten or dissuade Americans from using lower cost, non-U. S. pharmacies:

SafeMedicines. org - Scaring the public away from safe and affordable medicine as The Partnership For Safe Medicines (http://online-pharmacy-and-prescription-drug-review. com/safemedicines-org-scaring-the-public-away-from-safe-and-affordable-medicine-as-the-partnership-for-safe-medicines) is a short exposé of The Partnership for Safe Medicine, which is primarily sponsored and run by the pharmaceutical industry and is an avowed foe of personal drug importation. As discussed in the article, a popular tactic of this group is mixing legitimate concerns over drug counterfeiting with unwarranted warnings about the safety of buying drugs from pharmacies in Canada and other countries.

LegitScript - Not So Legit? (http://online-pharmacy-and-prescription-drug-review. com/legitscript-com-not-so-legit) sheds light on the mysterious origins and operations of a private company that publishes mostly unsolicited ratings of online pharmacies. Facts revealed in the article suggest that its founder, John Horton, may have misused his role in the Bush White House to set up LegitScript, and why his real mission may be to help pharmaceutical clients stop consumer access to pharmacies that offer lower prices on medication.

Also posted is Checking the Pharmacy Checkers: Comparison of Groups Evaluating Online Pharmacies (http://online-pharmacy-and-prescription-drug-review. com/comparing-the-online-pharmacy-verification-services). This piece summarizes the critical differences among PharmacyChecker. com, the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites program run by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, LegitScript, and the Canadian International Pharmacy Association. It highlights the fact that NABP/VIPPS and LegitScript exclude non-U. S. pharmacies and suggests the motivations behind their policies.

A fourth article, Drug Price S. O.S - 120 Million Americans Struggle to Afford Medicine (http://online-pharmacy-and-prescription-drug-review. com/drug-price-s-o-s-120-million-americans-struggle-to-afford-medicine), outlines the staggering problem we now face with high drug prices and recommends strategies for saving money on prescription medication, such as those in PharmacyChecker. com's Safe Strategies for Drug Savings (http://pharmacychecker. com/pdf/strategies_for_drug_savings. pdf).

Gabriel Levitt, Vice President of PharmacyChecker. com, said, "The verified and licensed pharmacies found on our site and bearing our seal are a lifeline to many Americans struggling to afford prescription drugs. The blog allows us to go a step further to combat pharmaceutical industry-planted misinformation and share insights on topics related to drug prices, online pharmacies and personal drug importation. Americans should be able to take full advantage of prescription savings to be found here at home where, according to our drug price comparisons, the lowest prices on generics are to be found, as well as in other countries where brand name drug prices are often 70% lower than in the U. S."

PharmacyChecker. com operates the largest independent verification service of U. S. and foreign online pharmacies. Its pharmacy ratings (http://pharmacychecker. com/onlinepharmacyratings. asp) are used by consumers seeking to find reputable online pharmacies and by search engines to qualify online pharmacy advertisers. It also provides one of the largest drug price comparison tools (http://pharmacychecker. com/ListingAlpha. asp) which is free to consumers.

PharmacyChecker. com is a privately held company based in New York. It has no ownership in or from companies that sell or distribute pharmacy products.

Author of New Book Claims You Can Help Fix the Economy By Using The Law of Attraction

Author of New Book Claims You Can Help Fix the Economy By Using The Law of Attraction

Denise Coates, author of the new book, "Feel it Real! A Guided Approach to Bringing The Law of Attraction Into Your Life", gives five tips to fix the economy by using The Law of Attraction.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2008

Denise Coates, author of the newly released book, "Feel it Real! A Guided Approach to Bringing The Law of Attraction Into Your Life", (from the same publishers of "The Secret") claims that a couple of her Feel It Real! Interactive Coaching Program students recently made it their personal intention to help the U. S. economy thrive once again by using The Law of Attraction to imagine the economy as they wished it to be.

By using Coates' Feel It Real! techniques both students quickly manifested positive news media stories regarding the U. S. economy within a few days of their initial intention. They have since turned this Thriving Economy Intention into a project of theirs on Coates' website, www. DeniseCoates. com.

Coates' experiment of improving the economy by using The Law of Attraction includes a five step process. The five steps are as follows:

Tip #1 -- Stop Watching/Listening/Reading Any Negative Economy News Stories For Thirty Days Straight.

Coates says that in order to get a clear vision for imagining what we do want (In this case a thriving economy), we need to take our focus off of what we don't want long enough to imagine our desire fulfilled. Coates believes that the news media gets higher ratings the more they catastrophize any story. When it comes to the economy, she advises us to go on a mental diet from all the negative stories.

Tip #2 -- Vividly Imagine A Positive News Story Using Currently Popular Newscasters Where They Announce Over And Over How Well The Economy is Doing.

Coates says that by doing this for three minutes a day for thirty days in a row, one can effect powerful change in the economy. She advises one to clearly envision the outfit Diane Sawyer is wearing as she speaks of the 'best economy the U. S. has ever enjoyed" or to see Katie Couric's excitement as she talks about the newly booming economy, etc.

Tip #3 -- Get into the Feeling Place of Already Living in The Best Economy Imaginable right now. Ask yourself What Ten Emotions You Would Feel if You were Living In The Best Economy of All Time.

Coates says that many Law of Attraction teachers don't focus as much attention on the feelings one would have if their desire had manifested, but with her Feel it Real teachings, she believes it's the most important aspect of manifesting one's desires. She advises to write down ten emotions you would feel if the economy was booming (i. e. abundant, safe, ease, flow, security, wealthy, freedom, etc.) and then to notice areas where you already feel these feelings now.

Tip #4 -- Be Grateful For What is Going Right With the Current Economy/Government/Flow of Abundance in The United States. Notice every little and big thing that makes you smile or gives you hope about our economy and government.

Coates is convinced it's an epidemic in our country to focus constantly on what's wrong with everything. What's wrong with our bodies, what's wrong with our health, what's wrong with our mates, what's wrong with our finances, and, of course, what's wrong with our economy.

Her advice? "Every day for the next thirty days, write down three things you appreciate about your economy, your economic structure, your political structure or your country in general. You will notice a shift in your own frequency and moods first and then you will notice the economy reflecting your positive energy back to you."

Tip #5 -- Put a Positive Spin On Why The Economy Was Challenged In The First Place So Your Improved Attitude Raises The Vibration of The Situation.

Coates often quotes Shakespeare on the benefits using a positive spin, "Nothing is good or bad. But thinking makes it so." Coates believes that it's not the events of our lives that make us happy or sad so much as our interpretation of those events. She clarifies that when we can put a positive spin on a challenging situation, we immediately bring a higher vibrational frequency to the table, Her instruction involves writing out several possible positives that could come from this current Ecomomic Challenge(ie "I never really appreciated how prosperous our country was until it felt challenged!" etc.).

Coates believes that as we follow these five tips for thirty days, we'll notice, just as she claims her students have, that real economic shifts take place in the outer world based on our own focus and vibrational signal. "Remember, you are creating your entire reality, including how the economy looks right now in the outer world. You can recreate it in a moment," claims Coates.

Whether Coates' plan will work or not to improve the economy is difficult to gauge and may come across as too simplistic. Either way, her uplifting tips are bound to improve the mood of anyone who chooses to focus their attention on such positive outcomes.

For Earth Day 2008, Yoga Retailers Strive to Reduce the Impact of Yoga Products on the Planet

For Earth Day 2008, Yoga Retailers Strive to Reduce the Impact of Yoga Products on the Planet

As interest in yoga continues to grow in America, concern has mounted about the environmental impact of millions of yoga mats and other yoga "props" made with toxic chemicals or non-renewable resources. To help reduce yoga's impact on the planet, many yoga retailers, including Seattle-based Barefoot Yoga, are starting to offer more earth-friendly alternatives. Barefoot Yoga, one of the oldest online yoga product retailers, now features a wide selection of what it calls "Eco-Yoga Products" on its website at http://www. barefootyoga. com.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) April 16, 2008 -

Yoga has exploded in popularity in the last few years as a healthful form of exercise for mind and body. An unfortunate side effect of that popularity is the manufacture and purchase of millions of yoga products that may not be so healthy for our planet -- or even for yoga practitioners themselves.

Most yoga mats, one of the most basic yoga tools, are made with toxic chemicals, such as Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC), and are not biodegradable. Many yoga blocks, another useful yoga prop, are produced from unsustainably harvested woods or toxic plastics. Most popular yoga clothing is made from cotton grown with harmful pesticides and herbicides.

As Earth Day 2008 approaches on April 22, an increasing number of yoga supply companies are actively working to reduce yoga's impact on the planet by offering more environmentally friendly yoga products.

Among them is Seattle-based Barefoot Yoga Company, Barefoot Yoga (http://www. barefootyoga. com), one of the oldest online suppliers of yoga products, established a decade ago in 1998.

"Traditionally, yoga is about balance and a respect for nature", says Barefoot Yoga founder and owner Kelly LeFebvre. "But in our modern society, we often opt for the convenience of products that are not in harmony with that natural balance."

"Several years ago, we became concerned about the environmental impact of many of the products we sell," continued LeFebvre, "We decided we could do our part by offering yoga practitioners more earth-friendly alternatives."

Barefoot Yoga's web site now features a growing Barefoot Yoga's Eco-Yoga Products (http://www. barefootyoga. com/Search. bok? category=Eco-Friendly+Products) section, that showcases "green" yoga mats, yoga props and yoga clothing made from non-toxic, organic and sustainably harvested materials. The site also offers suggestions for how to reuse older yoga mats so they don't get tossed in land-fills.

Among the most popular environmentally friendly products on their web site are a selection of Eco Yoga Mats made from natural jute fibers, sustainable rubber plants, or newer synthetic plastics that are PVC free. Barefoot Yoga also offers 100% Cotton Yoga Rugs, the original type of yoga mat first used in India.

In its Eco Yoga Props section the company features yoga blocks made from sustainably grown cork and bamboo, as well as from a non-toxic foam.

Barefoot Yoga's site also showcases yoga clothing made from organically grown cotton, and from sustainably grown hemp and bamboo fibers.

"We are encouraged by the growing interest we've seen in our Eco Yoga products since we started offering them," added LeFebvre. "But this is a long-term commitment on our part. We'll continue to seek out more eco-yoga products to offer, and urge more of our customers to think and buy green."

For more information on Barefoot Yoga Company and its Eco-Yoga Products, visit Barefoot Yoga (http://www. barefootyoga. com) or call 1-877-227-3366.

Tea VS. Coffee? Vancouver based family health food company launches unique new energy bar flavors

Tea VS. Coffee? Vancouver based family health food company launches unique new energy bar flavors.

The Ellingson family, owners of PROsnack Natural Foods of Vancouver BC, have responded to customer demand to increase the product line of their successful "ELEV8 Me!" energy bars. Clients can now choose "tea vs. coffee": 1. Matcha Green Tea with Cranberries or 2. Coffee Bean Cocoa Crunch.

(PRWEB) September 20, 2004

CEO Earl Ellingson on the launch, "with over 500 stores now selling ELEV8 Me! natural protein/energy bars, it was time to bring out 2 new flavors to add to the 3 existing lines: All-Fruit Original, Cocoa Coconut Cluster and Banana Nut Bread. We've always wanted to have unique flavors, and now we've put an exclamation point on that goal."

The first new flavor: "Matcha Green Tea with Cranberries", is made with "matcha", the purest Japanese green tea on the market, which grinds the whole leaf into a powder which is then infused into the bar along with whey protein isolate, cranberries and more fruits. Matcha green tea is 10x stronger than regular green tea making this bar reputedly rich in antioxidants.

The second new flavor: Coffee Bean Cocoa Crunch is made with slow-roasted whole organic fair trade coffee beans crunched into a chocolatey mix of pure organic cocoa, whey protein isolate and real fruits.

Starting in 2001, the Ellingsons entered their family recipe based energy bars into a market overflowing with various types of natural supplements. They attribute their survival and success to an adherence to the principles of quality, uniqueness and honesty.

ELEV8 ME! bars are not really bars but 66g triple packs in cookie form. They are gluten-free, wheat-free, soy-free, not baked or coated, and made with whole unsulphured and/or organic fruit. Made with whey protein isolate as the protein base, each one contains 18g protein, making the bar zone friendly for athletes and people who read ingredient labels. Marketed as "the world's simplest protein and fruit energy bars", ELEV8 Me! is named thus because no bar ever has more than 8 ingredients. No fillers, no sweeteners, no chemicals.

General Appliance of Berkeley Announces New 2011 Cambria Countertop Collection

Cambria’s 2011 Color Collection includes 21 new colors and three new collections. Cambria is the only producer of quartz surfaces in the United States. Quartz is stronger and safer for food preparation than other surfaces, like granite and marble.

Berkeley, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) January 19, 2011

General Appliance of Berkeley, a leading Bay Area kitchen appliance supplier, cabinet store, and design center, is now offering the new 2011 Cambria product line. Cambria’s 2011 Color Collection includes 21 new colors and three new collections.

“Cambria has a 60 year legacy of quality manufacturing and exemplary customer service,” said Ife Collins, Marketing Director at General Appliance. “Their rigorous focus on quality control and attention to every detail during the entire manufacturing process has given them a well deserved reputation among Bay Area kitchen remodel professionals.”

Cambria’s natural quartz surfaces are stronger than granite. They do not require sealing, polishing, or reconditioning. Cambria also resists stains from common food items such as wine, coffee, and tea.

Unlike granite, Cambria has been certified by NSF International as a safe food preparation surface. NSF International is a World Health Organization collaborating center for food and water safety and indoor environments. NSF supports companies in over 100 countries.

Cambria also offers distinct advantages in the areas of environmental health, safety, and sustainability. Cambria recycles and recovers 100 percent of the water used in its production processes by employing unique setting and filtering techniques. They make products that have a big impact on customers, not the environment.

New Aging Study Gives Marketers First Glimpse of Baby Boomer Generation's Consumer Values

New Aging Study Gives Marketers First Glimpse of Baby Boomer Generation's Consumer Values

Research released by FH Boom and the National Marketing Institute (NMI) at the What's Next Boomer Summit reveals a change in buying patterns of the aging Baby Boomer generation of consumers.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 27, 2008

Research released by FH Boom (http://www. theboomerblog. com/) and the National Marketing Institute (NMI) at the What's Next Boomer Summit reveals a change in buying patterns of the aging Baby Boomer generation of consumers.

Boomer consumers are roaring into their 60's, defying the stereotypes of aging and providing a demographic goldmine for marketers. But how long can it last? A new study of 1,100 Baby Boomers released yesterday by FH Boom and NMI gives marketers new insight into the Boomer consumer at age 70. The research will also be presented at the annual gatherings of the nation's two largest professional associations in aging--the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and the American Society on Aging (ASA)--later this week.

In brief, today's Baby Boomers predict that when they turn 70:
74% still won't be describing themselves as old  86% will be more practical and pragmatic in their purchases, and much less concerned about trendiness and indulgences  76% will be using technology to stay connected with family and friends  93% will have more time to do things like travel, dine out and pursue hobbies  63% will be making some kind of move, but only nine percent of Boomers now in their 50's or older imagine themselves at 70 still in search of "the dream home"

"While Boomers will still be accountable for more than $2 trillion of consumer purchasing power, it appears there will be a fundamental shift in their buying patterns," says Steve French, managing partner of Natural Marketing Institute (NMI), the leading market research and strategic consulting firm specializing in healthy aging, wellness and sustainability. Global public relations agency Fleishman-Hillard's marketing-to-Boomer initiative, FH Boom (http://www. theboomerblog. com/aboutBoom. html), collaborated on the study in conjunction with NMI's proprietary Healthy Aging/Boomer™ (HAB) research project of 3,193 Americans, now in its fourth year.

Primary Beneficiaries of the Fundamental Shift

"Primary beneficiaries will be responsive companies that can deliver Boomers pragmatic value and style, such as restaurants offering smaller-portion Boomer specials centering on healthy, organic food and automobile companies that pack their economy cars with ergonomic features while also taking advantage of the robust market for used luxury vehicles that will be developing. This evolving market, in essence, will be rooted in sensible luxury," says French.

The study also reveals that the Baby Boomer generation, which has a reputation for acting from dissatisfaction with the status quo, now perceives itself as being on track to unprecedented levels of satisfaction, happiness (http://www. theboomerblog. com/2008/02/happy_century. html) and thankfulness. A full 75 percent of Boomers anticipate that "their best years are ahead of them."

Revolutionaries Vs. Retrolutionaries

"This generation is a moving target, continuing its lifelong tradition of shaping industries and challenging the status quo," says Dr. Carol Orsborn (http://www. theboomerblog. com/osborn. html), co-chair of FH Boom. "However, now the key is to think of boomers at 70 not so much as revolutionaries, but as 'retrolutionaries'. By this definition, retrolutionaries are the vast majority of Boomer-aged consumers (http://www. theboomerblog. com/boomers-glance. html) who are aiming to get their monetary expenditures in better alignment with values formed at earlier stages in their lives. Think the 2016 version of Birkenstocks and VW in the 60's and 70's: living affordably, but with style."

Not all of the generation's return to its consumer roots will be driven by a philosophical shift in ideology, however. The study also shows that the turn to the pragmatic is highly correlated to the fact that only 41 percent of Baby Boomers state they have a secure, financially sound plan for retirement. Even so, Boomers anticipate that after paying their basic living expenses, they will have on average 22 percent of their income left to spend on discretionary purchases.

"When the first Boomers turn 70, there are still 18 years of the generation to follow, the vast majority of whom are wide open to new products and experiences in virtually every category--as long as marketers stay on top of the generations' rapidly changing ethos," the researchers conclude.

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust extends patient care benefits of BigHand Digital Dictation

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust extends patient care benefits of BigHand Digital Dictation

BigHand has today announced that Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is to extend its use of the BigHand digital dictation workflow system, further enhancing the Trust's ability to deliver first class patient care across a number of specialties. The success of replacing tape dictation equipment with the award winning BigHand system within Oncology and Renal has led the Trust to extend into Cardiothoracic, Sleep Unit, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Speech and Language Therapy, and Nutrition and Dietetics.

London, UK (PRWEB) March 10, 2009

BigHand has today announced that Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is to extend its use of the BigHand digital dictation workflow system, further enhancing the Trust's ability to deliver first class patient care across a number of specialties. The success of replacing tape dictation equipment with the award winning BigHand system within Oncology and Renal has led the Trust to extend into Cardiothoracic, Sleep Unit, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Speech and Language Therapy, and Nutrition and Dietetics.

Over 400 dictations are created every day within Oncology alone, therefore by replacing tape equipment with the BigHand system, consultants are now able to submit dictations as soon as they are created to a pool of secretaries for transcription, regardless of which site they are at, or which floor they sit on. The instant submission of dictations coupled with improved workflow via BigHand eliminates the administrative delays caused by tape equipment, enabling Trusts to meet key national health targets.

Teresa Dardis, Service Manager, Cardiothoracic, commented:

''Replacing tapes with the BigHand system will enable consultants to dictate their notes there and then during clinic and submit directly to secretaries for immediate action, resulting in the swifter turnaround of work. We will no longer have to worry about delays created by clunky tape dictation processes and with the added advantage of a visible workload, the management of work will be more efficient and controlled. I am confident that BigHand will enhance the level of service we provide to our patients.''

BigHand digital dictation has enabled many Trusts to enhance the level of patient care they are able to provide to their local communities, and has been identified as a key tool in assisting Trusts trim costs and increase the efficiency of consultants, doctors and medical secretaries. BigHand has recently delivered one of the largest implementations of digital dictation technology within the NHS at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, resulting in same day patient discharge in some specialties.

Human resource managers donÂ’t completely understand how to comply with military leave under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. A new HR. BLR. com survey finds that two new provisions of the law are not being followed by a small, but significant percentage of employers.

Old Saybrook, Conn. (PRWEB) June 8, 2005

The nation’s human resource managers are finding it difficult to comply with military leave under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. HR. BLR. com, “Making State HR Compliance Easier”, reports that a small but significant number of firms are in non-compliance on two new areas of military leave compliance – posting notice, and continuation of health care benefits.

Most firms (92%) in BLRÂ’s online survey conducted in May 2005 reported that they are in compliance with the new posting requirement from the Department of Labor, effective since March 10, 2005. But 57 companies, or 8%, have not provided employee notice of their rights under USERRA, and are, therefore, in violation of its notice requirements.

Employers, which previously were required to offer continuation of health care benefits for up to 18 months, now must offer it to those on military leave and dependents for 24 months. Most (88%) reported that they offer the right to continue in the group health plan for up to 24 months. But 12% are not in compliance with USERRA on this issue.

Susan Prince, senior legal editor at Business & Legal Reports, which operates HR. BLR. com, commented on the results: “It’s clear that our citizen soldiers being on duty in Iraq and Afghanistan is having an effect on HR professionals as they attempt to understand and comply with USERRA.”

“It also”, she continued, “highlights the overall complexity of military leave compliance as it interplays with FMLA and state leave laws.”

More than 750 HR professionals responded, representing businesses of various sizes and industries across the United States.

Seventy-three percent of respondents reported that the issue of military leave has gained more importance to them in the past year.

The survey also reported on the number of employees out on military leave, pay issues, and military leave discrimination claims. BLR offers a free download,“An Employer’s Guide to Military Leave,” which includes both state and federal military leave law at http://www. blr. com/82008400/PRS20 (http://www. blr. com/82008400/PRS20).

Former Pastor And Punk-Rocker Says It Can Be Good To Hate In ABC Interview With News Correspondent Dan Harris

Former Pastor And Punk-Rocker Says It Can Be Good To Hate In ABC Interview With News Correspondent Dan Harris

Jason T. Berggren, an ordained minister, former musician, and author of the recent book 10 Things I Hate About Christianity: Working Through the Frustrations of Faith boldly asserts that it can actually be good to hate. Berggren is being featured in a second ABC News interview due to his unique perspective.

New York, NY (Vocus) October 3, 2009 –-

Can it really be good to hate? That is the question Jason T. Berggren an ordained minister, former musician, and author of the book 10 Things I Hate About Christianity: Working Through the Frustrations of Faith (http://10thingsihate. com/index. html) recently answered on his website in an article entitled “When It Can Be Good To Hate (http://blog. jasonberggren. com/2009/09/30/when-its-good-to-hate-pt-1.aspx).” Berggren is being featured in the debut of ABC’s new show “Beliefs” due to his distinct approach to faith.

Berggren asks, ”Is all hate bad? Personalities such as Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are accused of stoking hate against their philosophical opponents-like Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and President Barack Obama. Meanwhile, these political elites accuse fans of these opinion jockeys and Republican opponents of being racists, hate-mongers, and authoritarians. Be it debates on healthcare, the economy, the war effort in Afghanistan, abortion, the mortgage meltdown, or climate change, there's always someone or something to hate. Can the emotion ever be useful?”

Berggren claims hate is unavoidable. Even in the good, productive, and meaningful aspects of life, there’s frequently a level of frustration that is overwhelming when faced with trying to achieve certain goals—like getting in shape, making the grade, or straightening out personal finances.

The writer says, “Too often people get stuck on that thin line between love and hate and don't know what to do. Or don't want to do what needs to be done. Frustrations build and people often let things simmer, until they've boiled over into bitter anger. This turns the heart cold and closed.”

Berggren’s solution? To be cautious and aware of the feeling when it begins to build and use it as an indicator that there is personal change that needs to happen. This process can be the basis of forward momentum. Berggren discusses how this method brings clarity, peace, and contentment in areas like marriage, parenting, and faith. In a brief video on his site he states, “This is when it can be good to hate (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=kftOh5Q9b6Q).”

It is faith that is most important to this 20-year follower of the teachings of Jesus. Berggren’s book 10 Things I Hate About Christianity: Working Through the Frustrations of Faith (http://10thingsihate. com/index. html) captures this growth-process in ten foundational aspects of faith. In areas like prayer, the Bible, Hell, Church, and Christians, Berggren has gotten angry and sought understanding and resolution. The author hopes that his progression will help others. He describes the book as “the intersection of real life, simple faith, and raw emotion.”

Berggren’s second ABC interview will air in the debut episode of the new show “Beliefs” at 2:30 PM on October 6th on the ABC News NOW (http://abcnews. go. com/abcnewsnow) network.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 20, 2005

RelyData (http://www. relydata. com), LLC, the leader in identity theft solutions (http://www. relydata. com/Default. aspx? tabID=23), has entered into a partnership with Chestnut Global Partners, to provide identity Theft Restoration services to employees covered by the Chestnut employee assistance program (EAP). As the only restoration provider endorsed by the credit reporting industry, RelyData takes action on behalf of identity theft victims, clearing fraud from their credit records and undoing the damage caused by the unlawful use of their identities. Relydata provides these services to employers, EAP, other group buyers as well as directly to individuals.

Nearly ten million (http://www. relydata. com/Default. aspx? tabID=2) people become victims of identity theft each year and for five straight years, identity theft has been the number one consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission. Increasing numbers of employers are seeking support for employees victimized by identity theft because of work time lost when employees spend the estimated 60 to 175 (http://www. relydata. com/Default. aspx? tabID=22) hours required to resolve the problem on their own.

However, virtually all identity theft help services, including those offered by credit card issuers, insurance companies and other employee benefit programs, simply give victims advice and “to-do” lists, but ultimately leave victims to do the work on their own, something Garnet Steen, President of RelyData likens to do-it-yourself dentistry (http://www. relydata. com/Default. aspx? tabID=2).

“Employees who are victims of identity theft do not know what to do and do not have access to the underlying data systems required to identify and remove fraud in credit files or manage disputes. Considering the expense and the anguish involved, both they and their employers deserve something better than a tip sheet,” said Mr. Steen.

Over ninety-percent of large employers offer their employees an EAP and nearly sixty-percent offer work life programs which assist in the identification and restoration of a broad range of personal and work-related problems that may affect job performance. “As an employee assistance provider, Chestnut Global Partners is committed to helping employees remain productive in the workplace. Employees who are victims of identity theft will spend countless hours at work trying to restore their credit rating (http://www. relydata. com/Default. aspx? tabID=27) and their personal records. Because the restoration services provided by RelyData relieve the employee of this work, we believe that our customers will find this to be a welcome addition to our existing suite of services.” says Todd Donalson, Workplace Services Manager of Chestnut Global Partners.
