Then they slip back into their old unhealthy ways.

Well maybe British writer Mike McMahon may have come up with something that will help people to achieve their resolutions, with his newly published free e-book “Super Fit at Seventy and Healthy at a Hundred”.

The 23-page e-book has 18 chapters covering a wide range of health issues, nutrition,
Activities, beliefs, therapies, lifestyle choices and reveals what the writer claims is the
“antidote to aging”.

The book concludes with the writer’s Super Seven Secret Strategies for abundant energy, good health, strength, stamina and longevity.

"No other generation of empty nesters has faced the challenges and joys of letting go as are present today for parents."

During the program participants will share their stories so they can receive skilled support and continue with a guided meditation that will help them unfold their hidden talents and answer questions that have been presented.

Teen Suicide: Not So Painless

Teen Suicide: Not So Painless

Suicide is the third highest cause of death among teens (15-24). Among 5-14 year olds suicide rates have doubled in the past generation. Last year fifteen million prescriptions were written for antidepressants for children and youth. And on Tuesday the FDA acknowledged an increased suicide risk associate with children taking antidepressants. The mental health of our young people is worse off today than it was 50 years ago. But for years the National Institute of Health has been following a biomedical model that seeks a drug to solve every problem. ItÂ’s clearly been a massive failure.

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) September 22, 2004

For the past twenty years the National Institute of Health has been following a biomedical model that seeks a drug to solve every problem. When concerns are raised regarding possible side effects, we hear the familiar ‘the benefits far outweigh the risks’ line. But on Tuesday, the FDA acknowledged a potential increased risk of suicide in children who take antidepressant drugs. Clearly the risk of drugs are often more dangerous than the problems they are seeking to solve.

Last year 15 million prescriptions were written for antidepressants for children and teens. Suicide rates have doubled for children 5-14 years old in the past generation. For youth (15-24) suicide has been the third leading cause of death for well over a generation. Dr. James W. Prescott, past Health Scientist Administrator of the Development Behavioral Biology Program of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH) says “Clearly something is wrong in our culture when our children and teens are driven into suicide, despair, and drug addiction. The NIH and America are not asking the important question; Where is all of this coming from and what can we do to prevent it?”

In his research with 49 tribal cultures Dr. Prescott found two primary indicators in cultures that were free of crime and violence; strong maternal – infant / child bonding and support and acceptance (rather than shame and embarrassment) of teenage sexuality. “Teenagers today feel isolated and disconnected, and no one is addressing the primary cause” says Dr. Prescott. He points to mixed messages around teen sexuality and notes “Parents are caught between abstinence only and indulgence and are completely avoiding the issue. Teenagers are sexual and no one is giving them real information on the healthy benefits of positive affectional relationships.”

Howard B. Schiffer, parenting expert and author of ‘How To Be The Best Lover – A Guide For Teenage Boys’ says “This is the time when we are losing our teenagers, partly to teen’s own fear and discomfort and now to psychiatric drugs.” He continues; “The real tragedy here is that parents are not seeing this time as an opportunity for increased connection and communication. They’re letting their own confusion close the door.” Schiffer urges parents to step through their own discomfort and open a dialogue with their children to confront the real issues they are facing. He notes, “The answer is not in a pill or prescription, it is in a potent dialogue. Our kids are screaming for someone to talk to.”

Invitrogen Sales Force Most Visible

Invitrogen Sales Force Most Visible

According to the findings of a recent study, Invitrogen has the most visible sales force among life scientists. The study also reports that GE Healthcare has the greatest percent of "promoters" due to the influence of their sales force.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) April 4, 2007

According to the findings of a recent study, Invitrogen has the most visible sales force among life scientists. The study also reports that GE Healthcare has the greatest percent of "promoters" due to the influence of their sales force, indicating that a larger proportion of scientists are likely to recommend GE Healthcare based on their interactions with the sales reps.

BioInformatics, LLC -- an Arlington, VA-based research and consulting firm -- surveyed nearly 1,000 life scientists regarding their interactions with suppliers' sales reps. The resulting report, "Improving Sales Rep Performance: Life Scientists' Perspectives," is designed to help suppliers maximize the effectiveness of their sales force. The report offers insights into understanding the increasing number of ways that scientists learn about products, how sales reps complement eCommerce, and how the ever-changing competitive landscape is reflected in consumers' experiences of supplier sales reps.

Types of purchasing assistance from sales reps are analyzed according to how they influence customer satisfaction. "The most 'basic' level of purchasing assistance involves resolving order problems and giving discounts or special promotions. If sales reps do not provide such services, customers will be extremely dissatisfied and may even switch suppliers. However, when these services are provided, they are usually taken for granted and do not contribute to a lasting benefit for suppliers," noted Dr. Tamara Zemlo, Director of Syndicated Research for BioInformatics. The report includes examples of "superior" and "significant" assistance, both of which can greatly increase customer satisfaction levels.

In addition, the concept of receptivity to technical and purchasing assistance is explored and recommendations on how to best interact with the "highly receptive" scientist are outlined. These scientists show important differences from their less receptive colleagues in how they respond to sales reps. For instance, 57% of highly receptive scientists felt that it would be very useful to have a dedicated, single-point-of-contact sales rep who is responsible for coordinating all of their requests. By contrast, only 34% of those in the low receptivity group felt that it would be very useful.

Companies profiled in "Improving Sales Rep Performance: Life Scientists' Perspectives" include Applied Biosystems, BD Biosciences, Bio-Rad, Invitrogen, Qiagen, Sigma-Aldrich, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and VWR International. Additional companies included in the report are Affymetrix, Agilent Technologies, Beckman Coulter, Calbiochem (a division of EMD Biosciences), Dako, Eppendorf, Fermentas, GE Healthcare, Gilson, Millipore, New England Biolabs, PerkinElmer, Promega, R&D Systems, Roche Applied Science, Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Stratagene, Takara, and Waters.

AP9 ShoppingEssentials Guides You Through the Scented World of Perfumes

AP9 ShoppingEssentials Guides You Through the Scented World of Perfumes

AP9 ShoppingEssentials helps you choose the right perfume for you.

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) January 15, 2007

Have you ever gone shopping for a perfume, bought one you thought smelled great, only to find out later on that it wasn't what you expected? Don't despair. The same thing has happened to a lot of people, but AP9 ShoppingEssentials (http://www. shoppingessentials-program. com/), a leading membership discount program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC, has some ideas to help you avoid this "stinky" situation in the future.

AP9 Shopping Essentials knows how important a sense of smell is for everyday life. The program offers savings and discounts on many retailers all over the country, so you can shop for the right perfume for you, while saving money.

There are many things to consider when choosing a perfume, and AP9 Shopping Essentials (http://www. shopping-essentials. com/) gives its members valuable and aromatic tips on how to pick the best perfume:

-- A nose by any other name. Finding the right scent is part luck and part research. It's a good idea to consider perfumes that people recommend, but be sure to try to expand the search to include other scents in the store. The fact that a perfume has the name of a famous person is no guarantee that it's going to be good for you. The nose has its own "tastes," so take time to go to the store and try on as many as possible (not all the same day!).

-- Day and night. A good time to shop for a new perfume is in the evening, when the sense of smell sharpens. Try them one by one, spraying a tiny whiff on your pulse point or on the small cards that stores offer. Don't ever smell it right out of the bottle. Remember to wait for the scent to settle (check back after an hour or so) and to "clear" your nose by smelling coffee beans while you're testing, so the scents don't mix.

-- Outside influences. Avoid trying on a new perfume when under the influence of alcohol or some strong medicines. These can impair the ability to perceive the scents correctly. Also, don't wear any perfume at all before shopping for a new one. The key to choosing the right one is to let the scent of the perfume combine with the natural scent of your body.

-- The one you love. If you found one you definitely like, buy the smallest size available. Try it on again for a couple of days, see how you feel, and weigh the responses of those around you.

Age, gender, personal style, type of skin and the temperature in your home can influence the way you perceive a smell and the way fragrances stick to your body. Take the time to go hunting for the right one for you, with help from these tips and all the savings that you can get with a membership to AP9 ShoppingEssentials.

ICC World Toilet Summit Kickoff Integrates U. S. and Global Experts

ICC World Toilet Summit Kickoff Integrates U. S. and Global Experts.

The World Toilet Summit is a crucial event that brings together brilliant professionals from various industries in an effort to escalate the solution to the global sanitation crisis. October 31 marks the first time this life-critical event has taken place in the United States.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) November 5, 2010

The International Code Council World Toilet Summit 2010 (WTS) officially kicked off on October 31 with a welcoming reception at the National Constitution Center hosting a diverse group of attendees, including industry professionals representing business and volunteer organizations alike from five continents. The Summit is being held in conjunction with the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) Annual Conference.

Issues at the top of the list for WTS attendees range from the global sanitation crisis to innovative toilet design, codes and provisions, and plumbing engineering solutions.

As the host of the first ever WTS in the United States, ASPE has provided an opportunity for the international delegates and ASPE’s core member base of plumbing engineers and other construction industry-related professionals to meet and plan for future business collaborations.

“We are proud to be hosting the ICC World Toilet Summit 2010,” said Stanley Wolfson, ASPE’s Executive Director. “Offering our six excellent ASPE technical tracks in addition to the ICC and WTO tracks to our collective attendees has dramatically enhanced the content, networking and business-building value of the ASPE convention overall.”

Since the theme of this year’s WTS is “2.6 Billion Sanitation Business Opportunities,” the importance of engaging U. S. business with international efforts is paramount. This engagement constitutes the first step to advancing solutions for the global sanitation crisis that affects 40% of the world.

A number of key stakeholders laid the foundation for progress in addressing the sanitation crisis at the opening event. Carol McCreary with PHLUSH (Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human), a Portland, Oregon group that encourages grassroots advocacy for toilet availability discussed a breadth of sanitation-related topics ranging from the need for more compostable toilets in public parks to the importance of making people feel comfortable about the whole concept of sanitation and discussing it freely.

Past ASPE Atlanta Chapter President Patrick McClellan said he was pleased that ASPE is hosting the ICC World Toilet Summit since it dramatically expands the number and variety of sessions to choose from. He added that he planned on attending as many sessions offered by both conferences, admitting that it will be hard to choose with such a great variety and so many interesting topics.

Especially significant to the American hosts was the Constitution Center’s multimedia museum that presents the key role Philadelphia played in the early development of the United States and the structure of its governmental system.

Day two of the ICC World Toilet Summit continues on Monday, November 1 with an International Breakfast featuring a full schedule of speakers, followed by an ASPE opening session and the exposition, with another networking gathering in the evening.

The American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) was founded in 1964 as an organization dedicated to the advancement of the plumbing engineering profession. The Society disseminates technical data and information, sponsors activities that facilitate interaction with fellow professionals, and, through research and education, expands the base of knowledge of the plumbing engineering industry. Its 7,000 members on five continents represent an extensive network of experienced engineers, designers, contractors, code officials, manufacturers, and manufacturer representatives interested in advanced their careers, their profession, and the industry. Contact ASPE for additional information at 847-296-0002 or visit http://www. aspe. org.

The International Code Council (ICC) publishes building safety, fire prevention and energy efficiency codes that are used in the construction of residential and commercial buildings. Most U. S. cities, counties and states choose the I-Codes based on their outstanding quality. The ICC’s Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) Group is devoted exclusively to providing PMG products and support to jurisdictions and construction industry professionals across the country and around the globe, with one or more PMG codes adopted in all 50 states. The more than 200 superior products and related services were developed specifically by and for plumbing and mechanical professionals. Contact the PMG Group for additional information at 1-888-ICC-SAFE, x4PMG or visit iccsafe. org.

The World Toilet Organization (WTO) is a global non-profit organization committed to improving toilet and sanitation conditions worldwide. WTO is also one of the few organizations to focus on toilets instead of water, which receives more attention and resources under the common subject of sanitation. Founded in 2001 with 15 members, it now has 235 member organizations in 58 countries, all of which are working towards eliminating the toilet taboo and delivering sustainable sanitation. WTO was created as a global network and service platform wherein all toilet and sanitation organizations can learn from one another and leverage on media and global support that, in turn, can influence governments to promote sound sanitation and public health policies. To learn about all of the initiatives with which the WTO is engaged, visit worldtoilet. org.

Survey Shows Rising Healthcare Premiums Forcing Employers to Cut Benefits and Pass More Costs to Employees - Trend That Began Several Years Ago Becoming More Prevalent

Survey Shows Rising Healthcare Premiums Forcing Employers to Cut Benefits and Pass More Costs to Employees - Trend That Began Several Years Ago Becoming More Prevalent

Over 80 percent of organizations nationwide experienced a premium increase, and 49.1 percent responded by raising the employee portion of the premium. Sharing these rising costs with employees has been a growing trend over the past few years, experts predict it will continue in 2004. Additional statistics and trends are included in the press release below.

KANSAS CITY (PRWEB) February 20, 2004 -

Rapidly rising healthcare costs are forcing employers across the country to pay double-digit premium increases, and in turn, employers are scaling back benefits and passing a larger share of the rising costs to employees. This is according to Compdata SurveysÂ’ latest annual survey of employersÂ’ compensation practices, the largest of its kind in the nation with data from nearly 5,000 organizations with more than 4.7 million incumbent workers.

As employers struggle to deal with double-digit premium increases, they are looking to employees to shoulder more of the burden. The national trend started several years ago and is becoming more prevalent. In 2001, 26.3% of organizations nationwide asked their workers to pay more of the costs of health insurance, the survey showed. This number increased in 2002 to 41%, and it went up even further to 49.1% in 2003. Experts are predicting the increases will continue in 2004.

"Organizations are preparing measures to reduce the impact of these costs," said Suzanne Adams, Manager of Survey Operations for Compdata Surveys. "However, the overall costs are going up dramatically, and employers will be forced to share some of these expenses with employees."

Nationwide, over 80.3% of all organizations experienced a healthcare premium increase with the average increase equaling 16%. In addition to increasing the employee portion of the premium, companies attempted to reduce healthcare costs by increasing deductible levels. The number of companies who did this has also steadily increased each year from 14.9% in 2001 to 33.4% in 2003. Additionally, 10.7% reduced benefits altogether.

XanGo Closes Annual Convention With Focus On The Future and Continued Growth

XanGo Closes Annual Convention With Focus On The Future and Continued Growth

New Product Announcements and XanGo Goodness Foundation Fundraisers Highlight XanGo's "Thrive" Convention in Salt Lake City

Lehi, UT (PRWEB) October 30, 2009

XanGo, LLC attracted about 10,000 XanGo distributors from across the globe to Salt Lake City last week for its seventh annual convention. With more than 1 million distributors and a presence in more than 30 international markets, XanGo has a lot to celebrate this year. The theme of the convention - "Thrive" - particularly resonated for a company successfully launching two new product lines, despite the economic downturn, and entering a host of new markets including Russia and Italy in 2009.

"The annual XanGo convention is an opportunity to review our past successes and truly give credit to all the people who contributed their passion and hard work to reach this point, but it's also a strategic time to look to the future and chart where XanGo is headed in 2010 and beyond," XanGo CEO Robert Conlee said. "Judging from the convention, our distributors are motivated to get back to building their XanGo business, recharged with new ideas and wellness products that their customers will love."

The convention provides an opportunity for distributors to network, share success stories, meet XanGo's founders and executive team, receive guidance for building their business and learn about exciting new products and initiatives from XanGo for the year to come. XanGo distributors were also treated to an inspirational keynote address by Chris Gardner, the best-selling author of the autobiographical The Pursuit of Happyness, as well as from industry legend and XanGo training consultant Doug Wead.

The XanGo Goodness Foundation
This year's convention marked the establishment of the XanGo Goodness Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity created to extend the company's ongoing commitment to better the lives of others through philanthropic action. Events throughout the convention helped raise about $70,000 toward a joint 2010 mission between XanGo and Operation Smile to Thailand to provide children's cleft lip and palate repair in the very villages where XanGo harvests the mangosteen fruit for its products. The money raised translates into approximately 290 surgeries. Fundraising events for the Operation Smile mission ranged from a black-tie gala honoring Operation Smile's founders Bill and Kathy Magee to a 5K Fun Run.

The XanGo Goodness Foundation also engaged convention attendees in the Goodness Project, in which XanGo staff and distributors spent an afternoon assembling more than 2,000 humanitarian care packages for delivery to Cambodia via AmeriCares.

New Product Introductions
During Friday's general session, XanGo Senior Vice President Beverly Hollister introduced the new line of XanGo personal care products, called Juni™ Family Care. The new competitively priced line -- shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and body bar -- rounds out the XanGo product line bringing an all-natural, toxin-free formula to the bathroom for the whole family to enjoy. Just a month ago, XanGo also launched elevivTM, a natural supplement to restore youthful vigor that's ideally suited to a tired and stressed population in today's fast-paced world.

Real Salt Lake Partnership
The convention came to a close with more than 3,000 XanGo distributors attending the Major League Soccer match against the XanGo-sponsored Real Salt Lake and the Colorado Rapids. The game was not only the regular season finale for both squads, but also the third game of the Rocky Mountain Cup, a series of games between inner-conference rivals. Distributors donned the Real Salt Lake (RSL) jersey featuring the XanGo name on its front as they cheered on RSL to a 3-0 victory over their rivals, the Colorado Rapids. The win clinched RSL's second consecutive playoff berth, as they prepare to face the Columbus Crew in a two-match stint beginning this Saturday on RSL's home field.

Next Generation Military Coatings

Next Generation Military Coatings

Coatings are a critical element of the militaryÂ’s arsenal of chemical and biological warfare protective technologies. This article describes recent 2004 and 2005 advances in military coatings technology.

(PRWEB) June 5, 2005

The Marine Corps, in collaboration with the Office of Naval Research, is taking an aggressive role in sponsoring research to lay the foundation for highly advanced coatings that address several issues relating to the protection of vehicles and equipment, as well as environmental and health concerns. Specifically, Isotron® Corporation has carried out research under Navy-sponsored, innovative research contracts that are aimed at advancing 0-VOC, single pack Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings (CARC) and innovative camouflage coatings. These next generation of coatings will provide better camouflage concealment in various bandwidths of light (visual and IR), advanced protection from chemical warfare agents over the current CARC, and easier application with reduced hazards to the application personnel. These coatings will be essential in protecting and concealing equipment, weapons, and tactical vehicles in the Marine Corps future expeditionary missions and Operational Maneuver from the Sea (OMTFS).

During Desert Storm, the United States military sent thousands of vehicles and equipment to theater which needed repainting to change the woodland green to the desert camouflage colors. The military established painting operations in Saudi Arabia. These operations were reportedly limited in personal protection equipment, and it is reported that there was a failure to adhere to applicable safety and occupational health policies and procedures. Even still, some infantry units found it necessary to re-paint vehicles forward of these sites with relatively little protection. The materials used were hazardous to those in the process, as the current CARC is toxic before it fully dries.

In current generations of CARC, chemicals known as isocyanates are used in order to achieve the chemical resistance feature as well as the toughness and durability service requirements. However, isocyanates are known to cause problems in the respiratory system and are harsh skin and mucous membrane sensitizers. There is a cause for alarm in the adverse health effects relating to exposure to hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and other volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) associated with the traditional CARC coatings. The primary health concerns associated with the CARC involves the inhalation of airborne droplets containing HDI, released during spray application. Systemic effect studies have determined that inhalation exposure can cause asthma, shortness of breath and other respiratory distress effects. It is for this reason that the safe handling of isocyanate materials requires that the persons exposed to these vapors be protected with air supplied respirators, and protective suits that assure that the uncured coating cannot be inhaled or contact the skin. However, this is hardly practical in an expeditionary role where the Theater of Operation could change in the course of a few days.

The Marine Corps is sponsoring technology which would all together eliminate the use of VOCÂ’s in coatings. Also, this replacement for the CARC coating would incorporate a design approach that eliminates the need for isocyanates in the coating composition, yet meets or exceeds requirements for durability and resistance to chemical warfare agents. Finally, unlike the standard CARC coating materials which required mixing of two components, this new generation of materials will be easier to handle in the field since these new features have been provided in the form of a single package of material. These are major technological advancements as they not only dramatically decrease hazards to personnel, but also provide an extremely environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional polymer coatings. This reduces the need for the personal protective measures associated with CARC, and provides a much quicker and more flexible means for application of new paint schemes.

The design of innovative coatings being sponsored by the Marine Corps, however, goes much further than this. In addition to ease of application and low toxicity, the new coatings under development now will dramatically increase the stealth, lethality, and survivability of the vehicles, equipment, and the Marines that use them. The new coatings, along with a field-applicable system, will allow the new MARPAT design to be extended to vehicles. This design has been proven in tests to significantly reduce the Time to Identification (TTI) when applied to tracked vehicles.

The MARPAT coating that is in development should be removable and will be designed for application over the CARC. Such a feature will allow for rapid field application of the camouflage scheme, without contributing the weight burden of multiple change-of-theatre coating applications. The objective of this integrated system is to significantly reduce the detectability, and hence the vulnerability of Marine Corps vehicles and shelters, while simultaneously providing a weight conserving, “on-the-fly” ability to adapt the camouflage scheme to the environment.

Coatings are a critical element of the military’s arsenal of chemical and biological warfare protective technologies. Currently, the key feature of CARC topcoats, which are used to protect vehicles and equipment, is that they do not absorb chemical warfare agents, and can be decontaminated using Decontamination Solution #2 (DS-2). An advanced nanoparticle technology relating to chemical agent defense has already been proven to neutralize VX, GD and HD chemical agents. This particular material has the potential to render a coating “Self-Decontaminating,” as any agent that should come into contact with the paint would be neutralized, allowing Marines to continue the mission without having to stop to decontaminate equipment. This is one technology development avenue that is being considered by the Marine Corp’s Single Pack, 0-VOC research program.

The objectives of these research efforts are coatings that increase safety, flexibility, and lethality in an expeditionary environment. These next-generation coatings will require minimal time and equipment to apply, and could possibly be done on-ship. Add that to the stealth they provide and protection from chemical warfare threats and the Marine Corps has an innovative coating that truly increases its ability to accomplish the mission.
