Samuel W. Silver Admitted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers

Schnader attorney Samuel W. Silver receives membership in the American College of Trial Lawyers in recognition of his professional achievements and conduct.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 11, 2007

Schnader attorney Samuel W. Silver has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), one of the premier legal associations in America. The induction ceremony at which Mr. Silver became a Fellow took place at the 2007 Annual Meeting of the College held recently in Denver, Colorado.

"We could not be more proud of Sam," said Chairman Ralph Wellington. "This wonderful honor only serves to confirm what has been known to so many of us for so long - that Sam is a dedicated, top-notch litigator who gets positive results for his clients and who is well-respected among his peers."

Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Members are considered to have mastered the art of advocacy, with professional careers marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality. Membership in the College cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. There are currently more than 5,000 members throughout the United States and Canada, including active Fellows, Emeritus Fellows, Judicial Fellows (those who ascended to the bench after their induction), and Honorary Fellows. The College strives to improve and elevate the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice, and the ethics of the trial profession. Qualified lawyers (http://www. schnader. com) are called to the Fellowship in the College from all branches of trial practice, both those who represent plaintiffs and those that represent defendants in civil matters, as well as those who prosecute and those who defend individuals accused of crime. Because of this diversity in its membership, the College is able to speak with a balanced voice on important issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice.

Telemedicine in Space

Telemedicine in Space

Nigerian space agency conducts telemedicine program using orbiting satellite and AMD Telemedicine equipment.

N. Chelmsford, Mass. (PRWEB) November 12, 2007

AMD Telemedicine (www. amdtelemedicine. com) today announced that its telemedicine equipment is helping to improve health care delivery in Nigeria through a nationwide telemedicine program that is using a Nigerian satellite to relay medical data and images.

Nigeria's telemedicine project is a nine-site program, funded by the country's National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) for the Ministry of Health. NASRDA has installed telemedicine equipment in two Nigerian hospitals, Ibadan Teaching Hospital and Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, as well as some additional, federal clinics throughout the country. Additionally, NASRDA provided a working telemedicine clinic in a bus that will travel to the most remote parts of Nigeria to provide primary healthcare services.

Furnishing connectivity for the program, Nigcomsat-1, Nigeria's advanced communication satellite, links the medical data sent from the bus to the in-country hospitals, giving patients and doctors in remote areas access to expert care.

On Oct. 19, Professor Robert Boroffice, director-general of NASRDA told Wired. com, "Telemedicine is now possible, thanks to Nigeria's new bird in the sky. Most of our doctors don't want to go to rural areas. So, we have created primary health-care centers, and we link them to two teaching hospitals. And these two hospitals, with videoconferencing, can provide high-quality medicine to these remote (areas)."

The Nigerian telemedicine project is equipped with AMD Telemedicine's state-of-the-art stethoscopes (for heart and lungs), opthalmosopes (for eyes), dermascopes (for skin), otoscopes (for ear/nose/throat), and general examination cameras, making it possible for remote patients to be examined for a wide range of conditions.

"Using AMD's standard-setting equipment and the services of Nigcomsat-1, the telemedicine program promises to provide great benefits for the people of Nigeria," said Karl Teller, Managing Director in Nigeria for CIT Ltd, an ICT solutions company headquartered in Nigeria and advising NASRDA and the Ministry of Health on the telemedicine project equipment selection, installation, and training.

"The Nigerian telemedicine project is an example of how telemedicine can really shine," said Steven Normandin, president of AMD Telemedicine. "In Nigeria, with the help of our equipment and the Nigerian telemedicine project team, many people who ordinarily would not be able to receive medical care, will now be able to be seen by a specialist who can address their specific needs with the most current treatment for their conditions. We are very happy to play a part in such a worthwhile initiative."

Spas of America, a spa travel website showcasing the best resort, hotel and destination spas in North America, today announced a new content relationship with Google, the world’s leading Internet company, to use their interactive maps to illustrate the location of premium Member spa listings.

“Spa & Wellness travel continues to be one of the fastest-growing components of the Travel & Leisure industry,” says Spas of America president and founder Craig Oliver, who attributes the growth to demographics, increasing affluence, and a rising health consciousness. A groundbreaking study released this month by the Canadian Tourism Commission and the International Spa Association estimated the number of “spa-travelers” seeking spa vacations was 20.4 million in the United States and 1.8 million in Canada.

Featuring over 350 spa listings, www. spasofamerica. com puts North America’s best resort, hotel and destination spas at the fingertips of both domestic and international spa-travelers. “Whether guests fly from Europe, Asia or within North America, or choose a drive-to destination, Google’s interactive maps make travel planning much easier,” says Oliver.

Two spas recently listed on Spas of America illustrate the range of vacation experiences. The Mountain Harbor Resort and Spa on Lake Ouachita, in Mount Ida, Arkansas, set amongst the beauty of the Ouachita National Forest on the shores of Arkansas’ premier lake, is attracting new customers all the time. Spa director Debi Barnes says, “While many of our guests are from Arkansas and neighboring states, our exposure from our Spas of America listing provides us with targeted exposure to a wide audience.”

Located in the heart of Niagara’s wine region, 100 Fountain Spa at The Pillar and Post is popular with both American and Canadian guests. General Manager Paul MacIntyre says, “Our new integrated Spas of America map provides value to our audience on both sides of the border by helping them visualize our location, whether they’re flying to us or planning a drive-to vacation.”

Life-Saving Clean-Water Project Secures $13m from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Life-Saving Clean-Water Project Secures $13m from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The fight against water-borne disease -- one of the most serious threats to child health in developing countries -- will receive a major boost thanks to groundbreaking work by an international consortium led by the University of Bristol and supported by a $13 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Bristol, United Kingdom (PRWEB) November 13, 2007

The consortium is developing Aquatest (http://www. bris. ac. uk/aquatest), the world's first low-cost, easy-to-use diagnostic tool giving a clear, reliable indication of water quality.

The World Health Organization (http://www. who. int/en/) (WHO) has estimated that water-borne disease causes 1.8 million deaths annually, of which 1.5 million are of children under five. Over one billion people lack access to safe water. Most do not even know their water is unsafe and are at risk of potentially fatal diarrhoeal diseases.

The Aquatest project aims to give individuals and communities the information they need to identify unsafe water and to empower them to work towards improvements in water supply.

Aquatest involves a small, hand-held device, similar in concept to the home pregnancy-testing kit. The test results will be displayed as coloured bands and may show, for example, that water is safe for adults to drink but not for children, the elderly or the sick.

Knowing that water is unsafe will encourage treatment before use and motivate changes in water management and sanitation. Accompanying information will include advice on taking action such as chlorinating water, checking for contamination or improving water safety at the communal supply point.

This will be the first off-the-shelf, low-cost and easy-to-use test that will detect the presence of E. coli, the internationally recognised indicator of faecal contamination of water. The sensitivity of the test will enable detection of ten E. coli colonies in 100ml of water - equivalent to finding a single coffee bean in 4,000 Olympic-size swimming pools.

Demand for an inexpensive but reliable water-testing device that ordinary people can use is high in developing countries, not only from governments but also from NGOs and aid agencies. Emergency-relief operations dealing with the aftermath of disasters such as the recent floods in Mexico, the Asian tsunami and the Pakistani earthquake would also benefit from low-skill, dependable water testing carried out on the spot.

The Aquatest project will be led by Dr Stephen Gundry, Director of the University of Bristol's Water and Health Research Centre (http://www. bristol. ac. uk/ias/res-programmes/whrc. html) (WHRC). The University will be leading a large, interdisciplinary team with expertise ranging from engineering, product development and microbiology to consumer preferences and behaviours and water policy and regulation. The research consortium includes WHO and other experts worldwide.

Dr Gundry said: "It is early days, but following a preliminary grant from the European Commission we have now secured support from the Gates Foundation. This will enable the Aquatest consortium to take this project forward and to make a real difference to the lives of a great many people in the developing world."

It is anticipated that within ten years, low-cost water-testing devices will be in widespread use in 80 per cent of developing countries for water testing by industry professionals, communities and individuals, leading to improved water management and a potential decline in water-borne diseases.

Charles Lyons, Director of Special Initiatives, Global Development Program at the Gates Foundation, said: "We are pleased to fund this pioneering project led by the University of Bristol. There is a clear and compelling need to strengthen demand for safe water in developing countries, and we believe that the Aquatest will provide people with critical information on the safety of their water. In turn, this work will inform and support efforts to ensure that the poor have access to safe drinking water."

Notes to editors

1. Dr Stephen Gundry, Professor Anthony Davis and Dr Patricia Lucas of the University of Bristol, and Dr James Bartram of WHO are available for interview. 2. The device will be trialled in communities in India and South Africa to assess usability and impact. These countries have been selected because they are located in the two regions with the greatest water quality challenges. They both have very poor provinces with low levels of access to safe water, but they also have industrial and policy environments that could support the widespread production and adoption of the Aquatest device in a way that could optimise local health and economic benefits.

Supermodel Makeovers – Personal Trainers RE-BRAND Fitness!

Supermodel Makeovers – Personal Trainers RE-BRAND Fitness!

PersonalTrainerCreatives. Com - the new fitness marketing network to hit the fitness runway, has launched Supermodel Makeovers in a bid to attract the lucrative plastic surgery market, only this time, the punch line “buy yourself a NEW body – without surgery” clearly suggests that this has got absolutely nothing to do with going under the surgeons knife. Could this be the answer to eternal youth?

(PRWEB) October 23, 2004

PersonalTrainerCreatives. Com - the new fitness marketing network comprised solely of personal trainers, has launched Supermodel Makeovers onto the fitness runway in a bid to attract the lucrative plastic surgery market, only this time, the punch line “buy yourself a NEW body – without surgery” clearly suggests that this has got absolutely nothing to do with going under the surgeons knife. On the contrary, Supermodel Makeovers is about working it from ‘within’, bringing out your inner beauty to the surface through all-natural liquid nutrition, in combination with the most POWERFUL anti-oxidants on the market today, plus a regular tailor-made personal-trainer-assisted exercise regime.

The brand being championed is US based Veriuni, a tried and tested product line which, unlike celebrity endorsed products that are quite often not the products the celebrities themselves use, is vouched for by Personal Trainers who they themselves are genuinely on the products, not to mention their clients who are also enjoying INCREDIBLE results with weight management, skin texture and complexion.

Expounding on the declining state of the nutritional value in food today, their website compares the nutrient value in spinach in the 1940s to that of today. The revelations are astounding!

In 1948 you could buy spinach that had 158 milligrams of iron per hundred grams. By 1965, the maximum had dropped to 27 milligrams. In 1973 it was averaging 2.2. That means you would have to eat 75 bowls of spinach to get the same amount of iron that one bowl might have given you back in 1948. We have to have cobalt to process vitamin B12. We need vitamin B12 for healthy red blood cells. Sadly most of the vegetables that supply cobalt in the diet now test zero.

The top soil over most of the land used to grow fruits and vegetables is very depleted. This in turn produces crops that are severely low in the necessary vitamins and mineral that our bodies need for optimum health.

The typical daily diet does not supply the necessary proteins, vitamins and minerals to properly replace the dying cells in our internal and external organs. If we fall short our immunity system is weakened leaving us vulnerable to sickness and disease. The bottom line is, give your body good nutrition and the body sorts itself out! You may read up some more on this as well as purchase the products at: www. DoYouTakeVitamins. co. uk

As an added bonus, for those of you who want to re-invent yourselves with a full body makeover via the non-surgical route, PersonalTrainerCreatives. Com has a network of qualified and dedicated Personal Trainers available nationwide. To find a trainer in your area, please direct your queries by email via their website.

Sweet Baked Goods Experience Slow Comeback After Low-Carb Fallout

Sweet Baked Goods Experience Slow Comeback After Low-Carb Fallout

New market research analyzes the $12 billion market for packaged products sold at retail, fighting to return to the good graces of consumers.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 12, 2005

After suffering in the wake of consumer fallout during the low-carb craze, the retail market for prepared sweet baked goods has begun to creep out of a four-year sales slump, according to The U. S. Market for Sweet Baked Goods, a new report from market research publisher Packaged Facts, a division of MarketResearch. com.

Packaged Facts projects the sweet baked goods market, which includes shelf-stable, refrigerated, and frozen cookies, pastries, snack cakes, cakes, doughnuts, pies and muffins will grow modestly over the next five years and reach $12.2 billion by 2010. Between January 2004 and May 2005, the market saw a flurry of activity in terms of new product introductions, including 419 new products with 1,254 SKUs introduced across various categories.

While promises of indulgence, convenience, and health topped the list of new product claims, ad spends show a clear deviation from targeting traditional markets and an emphasis on moving flagship products into uncharted ethnic and generational niches as marketers scramble to regain their footing in a saturated marketplace.

“This is a fiercely competitive market, and it has grown more so when you take into account the soaring popularity of upscale supermarket in-store bakeries and high-profile doughnut chains, which are actively developing a cult-like following and taking sales away from the retail prepared sector,” said Don Montuori, the publisher of Packaged Facts. “With the demise of low-carb, smart marketers are now refocusing their energies on the indulgence desires of Baby Boomers by developing decadent, yet ‘healthy,’ baked goods that fall into their favorite buzzword categories: gourmet, natural, organic, low-sugar, and low-fat.”

The U. S. Market for Sweet Baked Goods examines key product innovations; delves into advertising and promotional trends; offers competitive profiles of industry leaders (and up and comers); analyzes the internal and external competitiveness of the market; and looks at consumer trends and behaviors surrounding sweet baked goods. Priced at $3,000, this report can be purchased directly from Packaged Facts by clicking: http://www. packagedfacts. com/pub/1097887.html&xs=r (http://www. packagedfacts. com/pub/1097887.html&xs=r). 3D Global Solutions Selected to Program Manage GN ReSound/VA Digital Hearing Aid Contract

3D Global Solutions Selected to Program Manage GN ReSound/VA Digital Hearing Aid Contract

Resound More Than Triples VA Goal for Service-Disabled-Veteran-Owned Businesses

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 14, 2010

3D Global Solutions is pleased to announce that it has been successful in program managing the proposal effort for ReSound, who recently received an award on the $800 million VA Digital Hearing Aid contract. The base year of the contract commenced in November of 2009 with four renewable option years.

The award includes not only the Veterans Administration, but also the Department of Defense and other federal agencies (Also known as Other Government Agencies or OGAs). The VA provides federal benefits to over eight million veterans, their family members and survivors and is the largest purchaser of hearing aids in the United States.

Many of the hearing aids that will be purchased by the VA have a feature for management of a condition called Tinnitus. Tinnitus is currently the number one service-connected disability of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The Veterans Administration is projected to purchase over 430,000 hearing devices in 2010.

Todd Murray, President, GN ReSound North America, said “We are thrilled with the announcement of Resound’s inclusion on the VA contract and energized by the work required to exceed the expectations of the clinic audiologists and veterans who will use our products. This award is further recognition of the strength of ReSound products and our company’s ability to successfully serve our veterans.

We are also thrilled to have 3D Global Solutions administer the contract and manage all our numerous subcontractors necessary to carry out this contract with top-notch efficiency. We selected 3DGS based on its impressive past performance of providing unwavering service excellence in contracts of this type and magnitude.”

Mike Dodd, CEO of 3D Global Solutions, added “We are looking forward to working with ReSound and the Veterans Administration on such an important mission. Our veterans are one of our country’s most valuable resources and we are always happy to be involved with any project related to the health and well-being of our fine men and women in uniform.”

ReSound is also adding in an in-house caveat to the agreement in an effort to further support our nation’s veterans. Part of the contract, as awarded by the VA, encourages that three percent of the contract be sub-contracted to a Service-Disabled-Veteran-Owned-Business (SDVOB). This condition is a component in a recent upgrade in the law in an effort to get SDVOB’s engaged in more of our nation’s business. ReSound, as part of an internal initiative to meet and exceed this goal, has committed to more than tripling the VA percentage by engaging 3D Global Solutions as a substantial part of their team.

Dodd added, “As an SDVOB, we’re obviously pleased that the three percent contracting level has gone from a goal, to a corporate commitment. ReSound has proactively decided to do a significant part of their business with SDVOB’s like ours. This is more than a gesture and its significance is not lost on our firm, which employs a large number of service-disabled veterans.”

Go Green Initiative Aids Uganda Environmental Effort

American nonprofit embarks on $100,000 fundraising effort

(PRWEB) August 29, 2007

As part of its growing global presence, the Go Green Initiative is joining forces with Child2Youth, a Ugandan environmental organization.

Founded by Ugandan Educator and Administrator Steven K. Ssenyonjo in 2002, Child2Youth helps educate children in the Mukono District of Uganda. Many of these children have been orphaned by the HIV, an epidemic which has devastated the local community.

Concerned about the damage being done to the local environment by excessive tree cutting, Child2Youth is also educating children about the caring for the environment and involving them in local action. For example, the organization, working with two Mukono schools, has already planted 7,500 new pine trees in the area.

When Jill Buck, the founder of the Go Green Initiative, was contacted by Child2Youth and asked to help, she immediately agreed. As a result of the new partnership, the Go Green Initiative will act as a consultant and educator to enable Child2Youth achieve its goals which includes adding 10 more schools to its tree planting program.

The Go Green Initiative is raising $100,000 in the United State to help change the lives of the people of Mukono, Uganda. Please visit www. gogreeninitiative. org to find out more about Steven, Child2Youth and how YOU can help the community of Mukono.

Web Resource Offers a New Perspective on Publishing

Web Resource Offers a New Perspective on Publishing

Vital Business Media launches eMediaVitals to help publishers build successful digital business models

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 29, 2009

Today, Vital Business Media announced the launch of eMedia Vitals (http://www. emediavitals. com), a new web destination dedicated to helping magazines and newspapers manage and monetize the shift from outdated print business models to current digital ones. Created as an essential resource for those working in publishing, eMedia Vitals delivers a combination of reference and how-to content, proprietary video and research, with filtered content from around the web, all focused on helping publishers grow their online business.

"For some reason people keep talking about the 'death of print' like it means the 'death of publishing,' and nothing could be further from the truth," said Prescott Shibles, Vital Business Media CEO. "Yes, models of doing business are evolving, but there's more of an appetite for good content than ever before. The real challenge lies in publishers' figuring how to realize the financial value of journalism and information. That is what we teach them how to do."

Helmed by Rob O'Regan, former founding editor of CMO magazine, an award-winning monthly, eMedia Vitals is not your traditional industry news site. "We'll be talking about the strategies and the tools media professionals are using to find new growth opportunities for their digital businesses," says O'Regan. "We plan to chronicle the rebirth of the publishing industry, not its death. A combination of unique perspective and useful resources will set us apart from other sites covering the emedia space."

The site is updated daily with reference articles like "How to make money from online classifieds," blog posts such as "Transitioning your interviewing style from print to video," and aggregated content from around the web filtered specifically for magazine and newspaper professionals. In addition to the daily content, eMedia Vitals will produce a weekly e-newsletter, called "The Vital Guide," that dives in-depth into a critical topic of interest for eMedia professionals. The newsletter provides subscribers with pointers to useful resources and tools for all the strategic components (content creation, audience development, monetization, etc.) involved with that week's topic.

To explore eMedia Vitals, visit http://www. eMediaVitals. com (http://www. eMediaVitals. com). To learn more about Vital Business Media, visit http://www. VitalBusinessMedia. com (http://www. VitalBusinessMedia. com).

Northern Virginia Real Estate Professional Earns Ecobroker® Designation

Northern Virginia Real Estate Professional Earns Ecobroker® Designation

Buyers and sellers are encouraged to contact Adam Gallegos for information on the energy efficiency, “green,” comfort and health-related features of homes and buildings.

Arlington, Virginia (PRWEB) April 24, 2007

Adam Gallegos of RE/MAX Allegiance in McLean has earned the EcoBroker Certified® designation, having successfully completed a unique and informative training program on the energy and environmental issues that affect real estate transactions.

Adam joins the movement of professionals pushing the real estate market toward energy-efficient, sustainable, and healthier design/features in homes and buildings. The “performance home” movement is getting a boost thanks to this type of high quality real estate professional earning the EcoBroker designation. EcoBrokers®, like Adam, throughout the country are forging this market and creating competitive advantages for their customers. With national surveys indicating that 80 percent of consumers consider themselves “green-minded,” real estate professionals with the EcoBroker designation are in a better position to serve the real estate consumer.

“I’m always looking for the best ways to offer my clients the best value. My EcoBroker training helps me ensure customer satisfaction, my number one priority,” Adam explains. “From windows to moisture control to energy savings, I now have more resources at my disposal to help my buyers and sellers make better real estate decisions. The EcoBroker designation doesn’t make me an energy and environmental expert, but it allows me to better understand the issues and to convey this understanding to my buyers and sellers.”

EcoBroker International’s education and designation program is designed exclusively for real estate professionals who care about the environment and want to help their clients benefit from the energy-efficiency, “green,” and healthier features of homes and buildings. EcoBroker provides a complete curriculum of energy and environmental training to licensed real estate agents. Real estate professionals must complete the extensive EcoBroker curriculum and training and fulfill additional program requirements to become Certified EcoBrokers®. “Adam Gallegos, is an example of the quality real estate professional the EcoBroker designation continues to attract,” explains EcoBroker International’s CEO, Dr. John Beldock. “These real estate professionals are not only distinguishing themselves in a competitive market place, but they are really giving back to the community in very constructive and meaningful ways. Northern Virginia needs more contributors like Adam. The planet and our grandchildren need them too,” Dr. Beldock said.

From his McLean office, Adam explains, “With EcoBroker® training, I have broadened the range of real estate opportunities I offer my clients. Whether the transaction involves environmental assessment and mitigation (mold, radon, etc.) or the opportunity to reduce utility bills, I’m in a position to help. The real estate industry is changing, and to best serve my clients I need to understand the newest designs, technologies, and environmental issues. My EcoBroker designation helps me stay ahead of the game.”

Adam earned his EcoBroker Certified® designation in early April and is wasting no time in putting the tools and additional expertise to work. Adam has already found that being a Certified EcoBroker® creates added value and customer satisfaction that sets him apart from other agents. For example, at a recent listing presentation, Adam was able to show the prospective sellers how he can highlight the benefits of their energy-efficient HVAC system, as well as the energy-efficient windows. He also suggested an inexpensive energy. His innovative energy and environmental perspective gave him an edge in winning the listing. Adam says he is looking forward to continuing to positively impacting the quality, durability, comfort, safety, and cost-effectiveness of homes and commercial buildings.

When the Going Gets Tough, Disability Insurance a Must! Local Expert Offers Ways to Protect Your Paycheck from Disabling Illness or Injury

When the Going Gets Tough, Disability Insurance a Must! Local Expert Offers Ways to Protect Your Paycheck from Disabling Illness or Injury

May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month, and Michael Pitkin reviews three steps to help Americans get the insurance coverage they need to ensure they'll be protected.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) May 2, 2009

Facing the worst recession since the Great Depression, people are deeply concerned about their financial future and are seeking ways to achieve and maintain basic financial security. They are cutting expenses, and putting off vacation plans and other discretionary spending as they seek to rebuild lost savings. But as Americans focus attention on cost-cutting measures, they should also consider bolstering their insurance coverages, not cutting them back, says a local insurance expert.

If the recession has eaten away at your savings and investment accounts and significantly lowered your home's value, Michael Pitkin, Financial Representative with John Driscoll & Co, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ says you probably have far less to fall back on should you become ill or hurt and can't work for an extended period of time.

"If you have any doubts as to how you or your family would manage without your income, think twice before cutting your disability insurance coverage," says Pitkin. "A disability can happen at any time. Disability insurance provides replacement income when you are unable to work and earn a paycheck. If you and your family depend on that paycheck, disability insurance is an absolute necessity, not a luxury."

Don't make the mistake of thinking that a disabling illness or injury can't happen to you, says Pitkin. Nearly one out of every three workers will suffer a disability lasting three months or longer at some point in their career, according to the nonprofit LIFE Foundation. Additionally, a 35-year-old, white-collar male who suffers a long-term disability will be out of work for an average of about six years.

May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month, and Pitkin reviews three steps to help Americans get the insurance coverage they need to ensure they'll be protected.

Step 1: Estimate your need. Figure out if you would be able to maintain your current standard of living if you were to become disabled by adding up your monthly living expenses and comparing them to the money available to you outside your job, such as current insurance coverage, savings, and income from other family members. If this money would not be enough to support you and your family, it's time to consider purchasing or adding to your existing coverage. The LIFE Foundation offers a disability insurance calculator to help consumers get a sense of how much they need. The calculator can be found at www. lifehappens. org/disabilitycalculator (http://www. lifehappens. org/disabilitycalculator).

Step 2: Consider how you'll get it. If you don't have disability insurance or need additional coverage, there are several sources to consider. The main source is through an employer. It's important to check with your benefits manager to see what options are available. Many professional organizations also offer members the opportunity to purchase disability insurance through a group plan, which is generally an affordable option. The other alternative is to purchase an individual policy through a qualified insurance professional.

Step 3: Get help. Meet with an insurance professional in your community or your benefits manager at work who can advise you on all of your options and find a plan that fits your needs and budget.
"During a time when the finances of many Americans are strained, what's most important is making sure your ability to work and earn an income will always be protected," says Pitkin.

For more information about disability insurance and to evaluate your needs, visit the LIFE Foundation website at www. lifehappens. org.

Global Security Intelligence Awarded Contract for ASPIS Project

Global Security Intelligence Awarded Contract for ASPIS Project

Global Security Intelligence was awarded a contract under the Eurostars Programme, as part of a three-country consortium, aimed at the development of a secure approach to enable interactivity on IPTV. The two-year project will enable IPTV developers and providers with significant new opportunities and is expected to make viable a broad range of exciting new applications for consumers.

London, UK (PRWEB) September 6, 2009

Global Security Intelligence was awarded a contract under the Eurostars Programme, as part of a three-country consortium, aimed at the development of a secure approach to enable interactivity on IPTV. The two-year project will enable IPTV developers and providers with significant new opportunities and is expected to make viable a broad range of exciting new applications for consumers.

ASPIS (A Secure Platform for IPTV Systems) proposes to enable a bi-directional communication approach that overcomes the significant security concerns posed by unsecured data streams inherent in IPTV systems, and with this, serve the needs of stakeholders across the IPTV market. Developers can more effectively translate their vision into a user-friendly, and usable applications, retailers can reach a whole new set of consumers who may not have tied into the online web-based interactive shopping experience, IPTV providers will have new applications and services available to attract subscribers and advertisers alike. Most importantly, for those users who may not today use the Internet in their homes, access to a broad range of parallel services over IPTV may provide new opportunities to connect.

Kush Wadhwa, Managing Director of GSI, stated, "we are really pleased to be working on this project, in part because it will help to drive forward a technology that is still in its nascent period, but also because it provides new options for elderly and disabled citizens who may not be comfortable using traditional PC-based access to the Internet, and thus, are cut off from some of the practical benefits of the web. ASPIS will give us an opportunity to provide a secure platform through which personal health, financial, and other information can be communicated between parties and ultimately improve the ability of the users to gain access to information, services, and products that can improve their quality of life."

The ASPIS project launched with the kickoff meeting on 22 July in Limassol, formally beginning the work of the consortium. As a part of the main project activities, the platform will be vetted by key stakeholders in the IPTV value chain, and the consortium will be piloting the platform and obtaining feedback from focus groups in early 2011, targeting broad market introduction of ASPIS by 2012.

Exhibition of Stephen Wilkes’ Photographs Celebrates Release of New Book "Ellis Island: Ghosts of Freedom"

Exhibition of Stephen Wilkes’ Photographs Celebrates Release of New Book "Ellis Island: Ghosts of Freedom"

"Ellis Island: Ghosts of Freedom" is a collection of large format color photographs of the abandoned buildings on the south side of Ellis Island. Photographed over five years (1998 – 2003), the haunting images evoke the ghosts of the millions of immigrants who passed through these halls on their first stop in America.

Santa Fe (PRWEB) October 4, 2006

Monroe Gallery of Photography, 112 Don Gaspar, is pleased to present “Ellis Island: Ghosts of Freedom”, an important exhibition featuring the documentary project of leading contemporary photographer Stephen Wilkes and celebrating the publication by W. W. Norton of a major new book of the same title.

The exhibition opens with a public reception for the photographer on Friday, October 6, from 5 – 7 PM. The exhibition continues through December 10. Signed copies of the new book are available from the gallery.

"Ellis Island: Ghosts of Freedom" is a visual history of the benign neglect of the medical facilities and dormitories of the historic immigration center, which at that time, unlike the Great Hall, had not yet been restored. Wilkes’ photographs capture the haunting beauty of this century old building. Using natural light, Wilkes painstakingly photographed the peeling paint, rusted iron, broken glass and halls with wind-strewn leaves and created an ethereal diorama that is captivating and compelling. Brilliant sunsets on the water outside these buildings shed spectral light that is both alluring and eerie.

Twelve million people passed through Ellis Island. Approximately one percent were turned away for health reasons. Wilkes's powerful images of the underbelly of the island—a purgatory between freedom and captivity—ask us to reflect on the defining experiences of millions. With that rare combination of an eye that sees far beyond the lens with the technical acumen of a master draftsman, Wilkes takes us on an unforgettable journey through our collective past.

Stephen Wilkes is one of the leading location photographers in the United States, recognized for his work in the corporate and advertising industries, for his fine art photography, and for his international projects.

Monroe Gallery of Photography was founded by Sidney S. Monroe and Michelle A. Monroe. Building on more than four decades of collective experience, the gallery specializes in classic photography with an emphasis on humanist and photojournalist imagery. The gallery also represents a select group of contemporary photographers.

Gallery hours are 10 to 6 Monday through Saturday, 10 to 5 Sunday. Admission is free. For further information, or to schedule an interview with Stephen Wilkes, please call: 505.992.0800 or visit www. monroegallery. com.

Capture the Perfect Fishing or Boating Moment and Win

Capture the Perfect Fishing or Boating Moment and Win

Great Lakes Region “Focus on Fish Health” Photo Contest

(Vocus) May 25, 2010

This summer, fishing and boating enthusiasts all across the Great Lakes region can submit candid photos of their finest moments on the water to win prizes and bragging rights at www. FocusOnFishHealth. org.

The monthly online photo contest is sponsored by the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Focus on Fish Health campaign.

Dr. Gary Egrie, APHIS, senior staff veterinarian, says, “We hope visitors who come to our website to enter the contest will stay to learn more about protecting fish from infectious diseases like Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS). We encourage them to spread the message that transferring water, bait or mud and vegetation between bodies of water threatens the recreational activities we all enjoy – boating and fishing in clean, safe water. We encourage everyone to get the facts and do their part in protecting fish health this summer.”

Photographs should be submitted online to www. FocusOnFishHealth. org in one or more of three categories: Most Impressive Catch, Happiest Boaters on the Water, and Family Fun Fishing or Boating. A maximum of three photos can be submitted by each contestant.

During June, July and August, winners in each category will be posted on the web site each month. Winners will receive a Focus On Fish Health duffle bag.

More information including simple steps to protect aquatic life, contest rules and guidelines, are available at www. FocusOnFishHealth. org.

Scan-OpticsÂ’ Claims Processing Solution Successfully Installed to Process 15K Workers Compensation Claims Daily

Scan-OpticsÂ’ Claims Processing Solution Successfully Installed to Process 15K Workers Compensation Claims Daily

Scan-OpticsÂ’ Claims Processing Solution Successfully Installed to Process 15K Workers Compensation Claims Daily

(PRWEB) August 30, 2002

Manchester, CT – August 26, 2002 – Scan-Optics, Inc., (OTC BB: SOCR) a leader in information capture customer service solutions for government, insurance, order entry, proxy, health claims, test scoring and other paper-intensive businesses, today announced that a major insurance company in New England is successfully using their electronic medical claims software, Image EMC++, to process over 15,000 workers compensation claim forms daily. The company is also utilizing two Scan-Optics scanners and plans to upgrade the newest version of Image EMC++, Version 6.0 in the near future.

Since implementing Image EMC++, the company has been able to consolidate their claim processing from 200 field locations into one centralized location. The company has reduced their data entry staff from 200 down to 140, resulting in annual savings of $2.1M. They estimate a pay–back period of less than 2 years. They have seen a tremendous reduction in claims backlogs, lost claims and claims paid in error.

The company selected Image EMC++ over all of the available claims processing solutions because Scan-Optics offered a total data capture solution with a single point-of-contact approach. Image EMC++ provides the power and flexibility to handle various types of forms and the ability to incorporate business rules in front end processes, which reduces manual intervention and improves data quality down stream. The Scan-Optics series scanners provide a competitively priced, high-speed image based system that combines power and speed to provide superior scanning and imaging capabilities.

Richard C. Goyette, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Scan-Optics, said, “Workers compensation claims processing can be complicated due to the frequent use of attachments, with the additional need for accurate data and fast turnaround. We are very pleased that Scan-Optics’ total solution approach in providing superior scanning and information capture capabilities was able to provide the customer with the tools to achieve their productivity goals. This implementation is just one example of the many ways a growing number of companies are successfully using Scan-Optics solutions and services to solve their unique business challenges. We are proud to be a part of this successful application.”

Scan-Optics, Inc., with headquarters in Manchester, Connecticut, is recognized internationally as an innovator and solution provider in the information management and imaging business. It designs, manufactures and services products and systems for character recognition, image processing and display, data capture, data entry, and storage and retrieval. Scan-Optics systems and software are marketed worldwide to commercial and government customers directly and through distributors. Through its Manufacturing Services Division, Scan-Optics also provides contract manufacturing services to customers, outsourcing the manufacturing of complex, electro-mechanical assemblies. The Company has sales and service offices located throughout the United States and abroad.

Additional information is available at www. scanoptics. com.

Statements about the Company’s future expectations, including future revenues and earnings, and all other statements in this press release other than historical facts are “forward-looking statements” made under safe harbor provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995 and involve a number of risks and uncertainties that could materially affect future results. Among these risk factors are changes in general economic and business conditions in the United States and foreign markets, which impact capital investments by customers, the cyclical nature of funding within federal and state government agencies, further adverse changes in the Company’s banking relationship, insufficient cash resources, increased competition from similar products, the implementation of other technologies which may provide alternative solutions, ability to complete projects in a timely manner, and other risk factors and cautionary statements listed from time to time in the Company’s periodic reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including but not limited to the Company’s Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2001.
