New Web Tool to Unite Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survivors and Those at Risk

The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (SCAA) launched its new on-line discussion community. The aim of the virtual community is to foster peer-to-peer communication and information sharing.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 20, 2007

The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association announces the launch of its new online discussion community. The aim of the virtual community is to foster peer-to-peer communication and information sharing via the web. It is designed to be the meeting place for everyone desiring to connect with others interested in or affected by sudden cardiac arrest -- survivors, those at risk, family, friends medical and emergency services professionals, teachers and others. "SCAA intends to become the hub of on-line discussions related to sudden cardiac arrest," stated Richard Brown, board chair. Registration for the online community is free of charge to the public.

"Our new discussion groups add the human dimension to go beyond sudden cardiac arrest facts and figures," said Diane Canova, the Association's executive director. "Participants are encouraged to share experiences, ask questions and seek support," Ms. Canova added. To learn more about this unique and exciting on-line community, go to www. suddencardiacarrest. org.

SCAA partnered with ClinicaHealth, the leading provider of social networks dedicated to health and wellness, to bring this service to the Association's members and others impacted by sudden cardiac arrest. "Online social networks aren't new -- but in areas related to health and wellness, we're now using them in new and exciting ways," said Brian Loew, founder and CEO of ClinicaHealth (www. clinicahealth. com).

SCAA and ClinicaHealth are confident that the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Community launched today will embody many of the same characteristics that have made ClinicaHealth's online communities so essential to so many people -- new virtual avenues to seek and provide emotional support and to share timely and helpful news and information.

The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (SCAA) is a not-for-profit organization focused on identifying and uniting sudden cardiac arrest survivors, those at risk of SCA and others interested in saving lives in their communities and beyond. SCAA is dedicated to providing solutions to prevent sudden cardiac death, including increased awareness, CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training, immediate bystander action, public access to defibrillation (PAD) and access to medical devices and therapies, principally ICDs, implantable cardioverter defibrillators.

TrustDefender to Represent Australia at Asia Pacific ICT Awards in Singapore and Deutsche Telekom Innovation Roundtable in Berlin Germany

TrustDefender to Represent Australia at Asia Pacific ICT Awards in Singapore and Deutsche Telekom Innovation Roundtable in Berlin Germany

November will be yet another busy month for leading online security company, TrustDefender, as the award winning company heads to the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTAs) in Singapore to represent Australia and from there, to Germany to participate in the first of a series of Global Innovation Roundtables being conducted by Deutsche Telekom.

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) November 9, 2007

November will be yet another busy month for leading online security company, TrustDefender, as the award winning company heads to the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTAs) in Singapore to represent Australia and from there, to Germany to participate in the first of a series of Global Innovation Roundtables being conducted by Deutsche Telekom.

"We will be using our time in Singapore, firstly to compete in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards and secondly to meet with a number of leading Singaporean based financial service providers to discuss how we can reduce online merchant fraud and risk, such as the ever growing instances of 'card-not-present' fraud which their merchants and direct customers confront every day. We will also take this opportunity to introduce and position our new managed service offering which further enhances the TrustDefender armour of security," commented TrustDefender CEO, Ted Egan..

"We will also be traveling on to Europe to introduce TrustDefender to many European businesses where we see online fraud and identity theft is already a major issue for most citizens in that region, especially the UK. At the same time, I am looking forward to meeting with key members from the management team of Deutsche Telekom in Germany as well as furthering discussion with key prospective customers in the UK, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland," he added.

TrustDefender will soon launch a new managed service offering which will provide online merchants and other online businesses with an automatic risk score evaluation before they process any transactions, thereby giving an increased level of security and protection at the merchant or financial institution's end of the transaction process. Additionally, online merchant loyalty and customer confidence in a brand that signs up to TrustDefender's new managed service offering will be enhanced, especially as customers can feel safe that their confidential details are secure.

All over the world, at any time of day or night, fraudulent activities are taking place online and people's identities are being attacked and their confidential information often successfully stolen. Such attacks on individuals, customers and consumers are costing organisations billions of dollars in damages due to loss or damage to the corporation's reputation, brand names, consumer trust and intellectual property, in addition to any potential negative impact on the price of stocks and shares. In short, online fraud has grown between 30 and 40% since 2006.

TrustDefender enables the consumer to secure their PC before entering details and then integrates the consumer's PC into the overall security chain. This means that the online merchant, bank, financial institution or eGovernment body can then employ a rigorous white-listing method for online transactions to ensure security. TrustDefender eliminates the risk of passwords, identity details and confidential information being stolen or other fraudulent activities during online transactions.

Consumers can use TrustDefender to do a security health check on their PC or mobile computing device to identify any unknown crimeware or hidden rootkits that may exist on their machine that have not been identified by traditional firewall or anti-virus software solutions. In this way, TrustDefender ensures that any online transactions that the consumer conducts won't fall prey to an online fraudster or identity thieves - and the consumer has peace of mind.

As Mr Egan said, "TrustDefender is all about building trust in the internet. There is certainly a demand both by consumers for a more comprehensive security approach to online transaction in the corporate sector and by consumers in general - and this demand is worldwide. The exposure that TrustDefender is gaining in the international market is certainly going to benefit the company, especially as we are being recognised as both leading edge and the only completely secure security solution on the market. We are inviting the world's financial sector and online merchants to do more to build confidence in the internet by adopting TrustDefender."

"I'm tired of this killer running around loose and taking over 300,000 lives a year!"
Calgary, AB "Enough is enough", says Allan Fine, local Fitness trainer, Lifecoach and Owner of the Calgary Adventure Boot Camp.

Sound dramatic? Well, there's no drama here. What Mr. Fine is speaking of comes from the Centers for Disease Control which states that "poor nutrition and physical inactivity account for some 300,000 premature deaths in the United States each year." If that doesn't constitute a serial killer, Mr. Fine wants to know what does.

"I'm hunting these killers down in the form of prevention and education, boot camp style!" Mr. Fine and Mr. Hahn see's the consequence of poor nutrition and physical inactivity every day, in the form of emergency 911 calls such as strokes, heart attacks, diabetic emergencies and the like...he's now combating such killers with his outdoor fitness program known as FVBoot camp in Chicago and Calgary Adventure Boot Camp.

Mr. Fine says, "Campers choose our boot camp because they want a jump start and results that last long-term." Meeting in the early morning for an hour a day, the Calgary Adventure Boot Camp offers that jump-start to your fitness plan in a safe, supportive, fun environment.

Recent Boot Camper Britt Isaac says, "Everyone (including me) thought I was nuts to wake up...for 5:30 Boot Camp, but by the second day I was having so much fun that it was just as easy to get up early as it was to roll out of bed at 7:00 for work. My strength and endurance have drastically improved, and I am feeling more relaxed and energetic throughout the day. I'm thrilled with my results and can't wait to start my second camp!"

"The encouraging thing," Allan adds, "is that we are coaches not drill sergeants, so the fear of put-downs and unnecessary yelling is out the window."

The camp includes a variety of exercises: jogging, resistance training, circuit training, Pilates, agility moves, and more. James says other benefits are a 3-5% reduction in body fat, weight loss, 1-3 inch reduction in the midsection and a 100% increase in confidence. Beginners to advanced level participants love the New Year jump start offered through the program and have found that reserving your spot early by calling 403-246-7386 or logging onto www. AlbertaBootCamp. com/ (http://www. AlbertaBootCamp. com/) In Calgary and http://www. fvbootcamp. com (http://www. fvbootcamp. com) in Chicago is the way to go.

Mr. Fine and Mr. Hahn have teamed up to create health and wellness on both sides of the border. "When it comes down to it, there are plenty of fitness avenues out there, Calgary and Fox Valley Adventure Boot Camps are just one of them; but, we're dedicated to fighting the silent serial killers with every ounce of gusto we've got!" Two men, one passion, Both have a serious vendetta against poor nutrition and physical inactivity...from Fathers to Fitness Coaches, these are both hero's worth paying attention too!

The Cookie Paradox: Ambo Foods Introduces Nutritional Breakthrough

The Cookie Paradox: Ambo Foods Introduces Nutritional Breakthrough

The Venice, FL-based company, Ambo Foods, launches the "Omega Cookie" a nutritional breakthrough.

Venice, FL (PRWEB) December 16, 2008

Almost daily, new studies affirm the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids for everything from joint and heart health to weight control and increased brain function. Lack of these important fatty acids in the western diet has prompted governments and health organizations around the world to recommend an increased intake." Fish haters however, can now rejoice, as can those skittish of capsules and oils.

Ambo Foods, Inc., a physician - directed company, ingeniously loaded as much fresh, full-spectrum omega 3 as a salmon dinner, plus a substantial amount of fiber, calcium and vitamin D into a tasty, guilt-free cookie.

The Science
"Eating one Omega Cookie each day, three to seven times per week, covers all your omega 3 needs, even if you do not eat any fish at all," says Dr. Bo Martinsen, MD, co-founder and CEO of Ambo Foods. Unlike the trace amounts of omega 3 added to so many mass-produced foods today, this is the real deal. This is powerful, medically-supported nutrition in a single, delicious cookie.

As a comparison, you would need to have 84 servings of Kashi Go Lean with omega 3 or 60 servings of Smart Balance omega 3 buttery spread to obtain the same amount of effective omega 3 as in one Omega Cookie.

"Omega Cookie™ is the perfect breakfast or travel meal" says Dr. Chalmers co-founder of Ambo Foods. Each cookie is individually wrapped with a tray, napkin and resealable pouch, ready for people on the move or at home. Omega Cookie looks like a cookie and tastes like a cookie, but will satisfy you like a small, nutritious meal.

As of 2007, heart disease was the leading cause of death in the U. S. A growing body of scientific evidence supports the conclusion that high levels of omega 3 in the cell membrane are linked to lower levels of arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Ambo Foods has seen similar results with the Omega Cookie. In preparation for the launch, Ambo conducted absorption studies that showed that regular consumption of the cookie over six to ten weeks generated omega 3 blood cell levels equivalent to those found in the population of Japan, a country with not only the highest consumption levels of fish in the world, but the highest longevity rate, as well.

What's Inside
The basic ingredients are oats, whole wheat flour, fruit and fruit juices and fresh fish oil. There are no trans-fats, high fructose corn syrup or artificial ingredients. The impressive health effects come from a synergy between fish oil, calcium, and fiber, all known to be deficient in most people's diet. Together, they can improve a person's lipid profile and increase joint flexibility, mood and focus. Most astonishing is the effect on weight management. The Omega Cookie gives a strong feeling of satiation, causing fewer food cravings during the day, a finding often reported in omega 3 research.

Ambo Foods plans to launch a gluten-free version later this year and is also preparing to add other health-producing ingredients to the formula. "Omega Cookie is a cookie paradox," says Dr. Martinsen. "This is the first time a cookie can actually help with weight management, strengthen the heart and mental functioning and, at the same time, taste so good that it will become a favorite treat!"

The Omega Cookie is available in cranberry, tropical, and chocolate chip flavors at www. omegacookie. com. For more information about the Omega Cookie or Ambo Foods, please contact Dr. Bo Martinsen or Dr. Anne-Marie Chalmers, at

One Hour Changes Lives

One Hour Changes Lives

The children are our future. ChildrenÂ’s Hour is giving Filipinos the opportunity to share and help shape these children into good and responsible citizens. Since its re-launch in August 2002, ChildrenÂ’s Hour has raised over P32 million in cash and services from about 400 individuals and over 150,000 employees from close to 400 cooperating institutions and companies in Metro Manila, Cebu, Western Visayas, Davao, Pampanga and Baguio. The campaign continues to be promoted in companies as an advocacy program among employees.

(PRWEB) September 12, 2003

Twelve year-old Jolis YangaÂ’s voice never wavered when he spoke about days when he used to spend selling sampaguita garlands to church-goers in San Fernando, Pampanga. Occasionally he would break into a sheepish grin as he showed photos of his friends and family back in his hometown.

“Nakasakay na ba kayo ng pedicab? Alam n’yo ba kung ano ang pedicab? Yun ang binubusinahan ninyo pag nale-late kayo. Yun ang pinapasada ng tatay ko. (Have you ridden a pedicab? Do you know what it is? That’s what your cars honk at when you’re late. That’s what my father drives to earn money),” he said, with a precociousness that strikes even adults around him.

Born to humble means, Jolis is one of the fortunate few who had the opportunity to study with the help of the Social Action Center of Pampanga (SACOP). Despite many disadvantages, Jolis recently graduated as Valedictorian of his grade school and made proud the grassroots organization that had provided his tuition, uniform and school supplies.

So when children like Jolis stand up to share their message of hope to fellow Filipinos, sometimes even leaders of the country canÂ’t help but listen. Or as on the occasion of the ChildrenÂ’s Hour awarding of grants, so did former President Corazon C. Aquino and the PhilippinesÂ’ business and government leaders.

Message of hope

Jolis was among the many child beneficiaries of the ChildrenÂ’s Hour who attended the event held on May 20 at the Greenbelt Mall in Makati City, Several child beneficiaries, thanked the former President, who is also honorary chair of the program in the Philippines, as well as donors by way of song and interpretative dance numbers.

A total of 27 organizations from all over the Philippines were given grants of funds that ChildrenÂ’s Hour raised in 2002 among companies, employees, and individuals who donated at least one hourÂ’s worth of earnings. The grants will directly benefit over 22,000 children and youth nationwide.

The projects were carefully selected by the ChildrenÂ’s Hour project selection committee chaired by Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan.

Licuanan observed that 27 organizations are committed and dedicated to their causes in their efforts to uplift the condition of Filipino children. Priority was given to projects that would directly and visibly promote childrenÂ’s rights and provide disadvantaged Filipino children access to education, health and nutrition, and other basic services including shelter and rehabilitation due to physical or emotional trauma.

The awarding of grants was led by former Pres. Aquino, ChildrenÂ’s Hour steering committee chair Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala II, and vice-chair Gina Lopez.

Zobel gave an update on ChildrenÂ’s Hour and on the future role of the project in supporting programs committed to the welfare and development of children and youth.

It was also during this event that Jolis gave his moving recount of how he and his family have gained new hope for the future from the generosity of donors of Children’s Hour and its partner organizations. His message was clear to all: “Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat.”

The Beneficiaries of ChildrenÂ’s Hour

The children are our future. ChildrenÂ’s Hour is giving Filipinos the opportunity to share and help shape these children into good and responsible citizens. Since its re-launch in August 2002, ChildrenÂ’s Hour has raised over P32 million in cash and services from about 400 individuals and over 150,000 employees from close to 400 cooperating institutions and companies in Metro Manila, Cebu, Western Visayas, Davao, Pampanga and Baguio. The campaign continues to be promoted in companies as an advocacy program among employees.

In turn, the program selects partner organizations from various parts of the Philippines to make sure that help is given where it is needed most. This year, ChildrenÂ’s Hour will benefit the following projects aimed at improving the quality of life of Filipino youth and children.

Website Features Fitness Routine Developed for Young People on the Autism Spectrum

Website Features Fitness Routine Developed for Young People on the Autism Spectrum

AutismFitness. com, a website dedicated to autism-related issues, features fitness DVDs designed specifically for people with autism.

Williston Park, NY (PRWEB) November 8, 2008

Beginning in 2003, fitness specialist Eric Chessen worked firsthand with the autism community, and it was during this time he developed the fitness program featured on AutismFitness. com. The site is an informational source about autism, and it also features DVDs of his specially designed autism fitness program.

Based around principles that make for any successful fitness routine, the program is meant to foster skill development physically, cognitively, and emotionally.

"Exercise and healthy living are the gateways to success in so many areas of our lives. And people with autism are no exception," said Chessen. "When I realized nobody was addressing the special fitness needs of this community, I developed the methodology featured on these fitness videos."

Chessen noted that his program is similar to routines performed by other athletes but with some fundamental alterations and changes.

"The routine on my site really focuses on basic motor patterns. I work to isolate each step in a routine, so a pushup, for example, might be six separate steps," said Chessen. "But the overall movement is no different than any athlete would perform."

Chessen's programs proved popular as he affiliated himself more and more with schools and other institutions. In order to offer his program to the greatest number of people, he decided to translate the program into a DVD.

"We're currently finishing up the second DVD, called Foundations," said Chessen. "It's even more fundamental than the first DVD, Beyond Boundaries. Once the project is completely finished, we'll add that DVD to the site."

Understanding that every individual with autism is different and that autism itself runs on a spectrum, the fitness program is viable for a wide variety of participants.

The site has recently added a company blog at www. Autism-Health. com. This blog will provide general information about autism itself, and more specifically, it will deal with fitness in the autism community. Chessen also hopes the blog will turn into a networking tool, bringing together and connecting people who are affected in some way by autism.

About Beyond Boundaries Fitness

AutismFitness. com began in 2003 and was founded by fitness specialist Eric Chessen. After working with the autism community, Chessen developed the method featured on Autism Fitness. The site currently contains information about health and wellness for the autism population, and it also contains DVDs that allow people with autism across the globe to practice these routines at home.

Recommended Dental Care for Chemotherapy Patients -- Advice from Steven McConnell, DDS

Recommended Dental Care for Chemotherapy Patients -- Advice from Steven McConnell, DDS

The effects of chemotherapy and radiation on our hair, eyebrows, and digestive system are widely known. But, what most of us don’t know is that chemotherapy wreaks havoc on our teeth and gums as well. Steven McConnell, DDS provides information on how to be proactive with your dental health while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.

Novato, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2010

Steven McConnell - a Marin County based Dentist with over 30 years experience is seeing an increase in the number of patients seeking dental care after completing cancer treatment. He has found a few simple home care routines that help patients alleviate the dental side effects of cancer treatment. "The primary goal of our supportive care is to help stabilize the mouth by restoring moisture, minimizing anything that causes dryness, balancing the ph of the mouth and strengthening the tooth surface," McConnell states.

Virtually everyone knows someone who has had to take on the trying and brutal battle against cancer. That person may have been your mother, father, sister, wife, or even yourself.

The effects of chemotherapy and radiation on our hair, eyebrows, and digestive system are widely known. But, what most of us don’t know is that chemotherapy wreaks havoc on our teeth and gums, as well. As soon as radiation or chemotherapy treatments start, oral health is immediately affected. The mouth becomes drier, gum recession and mouth sores start occurring. A common complaint is difficulty eating, drinking and swallowing. Often patients must rely on IV (intra-veneous) nutrition as eating and drinking is too painful. As the mouth becomes drier, the teeth also become weaker and more susceptible to decay. This is a critical time to have regular hygiene visits thereby doing all possible to promote optimum oral health. However, most oncologists often discourage hygiene appointments. Frequently, the side effects of a dental cleaning can increase the bacteria levels in the bloodstream and risk the health of a patient while they are in treatment.

During this time of treatment supportive dental care is imperative to dental health. Dr. McConnell recommends antibacterial mouth rinses that are alcohol free. Mouth washes or mouth rinses with alcohol promote dryness so at all costs avoid any containing alcohol. The antibacterial properties help minimize plaque formation and also help prevent mouth sores. His favorite brands are Closys and Breath Rx because they are alcohol free and have antibacterial properties. Both companies also make a tooth paste that compliments the rinse. McConnell recommends using the rinse at least two to three times a day and the tooth paste on an extra soft brush after every meal.

Dr. McConnell also recommends a remineralizing paste specifically designed to strengthen the tooth surface and make it less susceptible to decay. A secondary benefit of the paste is that it also helps to balance the ph of the mouth and support better saliva flow. The paste is applied to the teeth once a day after brushing. Although these products can be found on line or sometimes in stores, it is often easiest to buy them direct from your dentist. Other products like Biotene help promote saliva flow and different tooth pastes have shown the ability to remineralize weak tooth surfaces. However, the Closys, Breath Rx and remineralization pastes such as MI Paste are those McConnell has found easiest to use and most effective. The key is avoiding any products that promote dryness and incorporate products that are antibacterial, help mineralize the teeth and help balance the health of the mouth.

Sadly, even after cancer treatments are completed many of these painful and destructive consequences can continue. Mouth sores tend to disappear but the dryness and gum recession often persist and the teeth which are weakened by the treatments are much more susceptible to decay. When treatments are completed and after being released for dental treatment by the oncologist, it is then imperative to return to regular dental care. First concern is accessing any changes in dental health. A complete set of dental radiographs is imperative to look for any change to the supporting bone and any evidence of decay or infection. We recommend digital radiographs as they use 90% less radiation exposure for the patient. Often there are areas of decay which should be treated as soon as possible. A thorough gum evaluation is recommended as are any treatments to detect any early signs of gum disease. The link between oral health and overall health is now well documented. Establishing optimum oral health is important for everyone at any age. After cancer treatment it is imperative.

CI-Now™ Brings Clinical Integration to Health Care Providers

Lee Sacks, M. D., chief executive officer of Advocate Physician Partners (APP) and Rick Wesslund, chairman of BDC Advisors today announced the formation of CI-Now™, a new company that will assist health care organizations in building and successfully managing a clinically integrated hospital-physician network.

Mount Prospect, IL (Vocus) July 2, 2010

Lee Sacks, M. D., chief executive officer of Advocate Physician Partners (APP) and Rick Wesslund, chairman of BDC Advisors today announced the formation of CI-Now™, a new company that will assist health care organizations in building and successfully managing a clinically integrated hospital-physician network.

The new joint venture will market a set of tools, technologies, best practices and support infrastructure to hospital systems or physician groups seeking to accelerate the design and creation of a clinically integrated network as they begin the work of becoming an Accountable Care Organization (ACO).

“A clinically integrated network is the fundamental backbone of any hospital system or acute care hospital wanting to evolve into an Accountable Care Organization,” said Sacks. “CI-Now™ will enable operationalization of a network – a key strategic step for some systems as competition for contracts heats up.”

The goal of an ACO is to deliver coordinated and efficient care by creating collaboration among hospitals, physician and payers, a design seen by many lawmakers as an important step in health care reform.

Advocate Physician Partners (http://www. advocatehealth. com/app) (APP), is a joint venture between 3,400 plus employed and independent physicians and the Advocate Health Care network, which includes ten hospitals. APP operates as a clinically integrated network and its physician members currently serve nearly 1 million people in Chicagoland. Over the past seven years of operation, the APP network has demonstrated its value to the community through improvement in health outcomes and cost savings created by widespread adoption of evidence-based practices by network physicians.

“Advocate Physician Partners’ success in driving improvement in health care by creating collaboration among hospitals, physicians and payers has made it a leader in demonstrating the value of an integrated provider network for a community,” said Wesslund. “The processes and insights that APP has gained during their seven-year network development can be invaluable to health systems in their journey towards clinical integration and becoming an Accountable Care Organization.”

BDC Advisors is a health care consulting firm that has been working with leading organizations to design and build hospital-physician networks for 20 years.

“BDC has participated in the development of some of the most successful networks in the United States,” said Sacks. ”It has proven its ability to provide organizations with the road map to clinical integration and becoming an Accountable Care Organization.”

Reflect Systems Branches into Retail Market with Visual Circuits to Deliver High-Impact, Point-of-Sales Content Delivery Suite

Reflect Systems Branches into Retail Market with Visual Circuits to Deliver High-Impact, Point-of-Sales Content Delivery Suite

Partnership leverages best-in-class hardware, software and content management to enable retail industry to grab and hold the attention of increasingly techno-savvy clientele.

DALLAS, TX (PRWEB) February 24, 2004 -

Reflect Systems today announced ReflectView™, a retail-centric module for the ReflectNet™ Enterprise Broadcast Network. ReflectView represents the next logical leap in technology for companies that want to broadcast high-quality video content to displays in retail outlets, theaters, lobbies, and public meeting areas. ReflectView allows users to convert existing content such as DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs, MPEG 1/2, and compressed media into files that can be centrally loaded into dynamic play-lists and distributed for display to locations around the globe. As part of the ReflectNet™ Enterprise Broadcast Networks software suite, ReflectView takes full advantage of the capabilities within a company’s existing network infrastructure for distributed serving, reporting, WAN management, and centralized content control and security.

“To cut through the advertising clutter constantly bombarding their customer base, retailers have to deliver content that is fresh, visually compelling and memorable. ReflectView was created to help them do that successfully,” said Brian Devening, president and COO of Reflect Systems. “The combination of Visual Circuits’ and Reflect Systems’ technologies creates a powerful tool to help retailers reach out to their customers at the point-of-sale with a more compelling, highly tuned message to help drive home sales.”

ReflectView is a simple-to-use, low-cost solution for retailers that want to use high-impact content to reach customers at the point of sale, in lobbies or other high-traffic gathering areas. Customers simply add the ReflectView player module to any ReflectEdgeÔ device to convert it for use with standard display systems. Marketing, Corporate Communications and PR managers or agencies can centrally upload video clips, trailers, and advertisements to ReflectView and pick the location or zones where files will be played. Once the location is determined, file play-lists are created that can loop in a given order or play at specific times. The files can be played out on specific displays that can reside in as many as sixteen different zones, depending on the size of the installation.

“ReflectView takes full advantage of our products’ video and graphics management and presentation capabilities, providing customers with everything they need to make any type of display screen a powerful merchandising and promotion tool,” said Rob McPherson, COO of Visual Circuits. “This powerful combination is already in use by Virgin Entertainment in 25 retail stores across the U. S. to provide customers with up-to-date information about new products, promotions and upcoming events on the store floor and educate employees about new programs in the back office.”

“Our new lifestyle store concept demands that we deliver different types of content to the various zones within each store, and every city is a little different as far as content we might show. Having the ability to centrally configure, download and track content for all of our locations is really a huge operational advantage,” said Paul Duchouquette, of Virgin Entertainment Group.

According to a recent report by industry analyst firm In-Stat/MDR, corporate users are increasingly relying on IP networks to deliver real time and “Store and Forward” video solutions. In-Stat/MDR estimates that this market will experience a compound annual growth rate of 45.3%, to reach $2.2 billion in 2007. During this time, they expect that corporate video users, and a growing number of TV broadcast video services, will be shifting their distribution away from "live" broadcasting, to "store and forward" systems that deliver excellent performance, at dramatically lower costs.

AP9 TodaysEscapes Helps Families Spend a More Enjoyable Time at Theme Parks

AP9 TodaysEscapes Helps Families Spend a More Enjoyable Time at Theme Parks

AP9 TodaysEscapes, by Adaptive Marketing LLC, offers members significant savings on travel arrangements, including theme park tickets, hotels, car rentals and more.

Norwalk, CONN (PRWEB) July 8, 2006

The #1 dream of many kids is sometimes less appealing to many parents: to visit a theme park. Sure, parents will enjoy the rides and the look of happiness on their kids’ faces, but they might also dread the long lines, the money spent and the weariness after a long day of carrying stuff -- and tired children -- around. To make the outing more fun for all concerned, AP9 Todays Escapes (http://www. todaysescapes-program. com/), a travel and entertainment discount membership program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC, urges parents to plan ahead as much as they can and to learn to have fun just like when they were kids.

AP9 Todays Escapes offers instant savings on travel reservations and car rentals, along with discounts on hotel stays, family restaurants, theme park admission tickets and more. Members go to Dealpass. com to pick and choose from the travel-related items they need … and save!

AP9 TodaysEscapes (http://www. todaysescapes-program. com/) offers some simple tips on how to make theme park trips wonderful excursions for everyone:

-- Plan ahead. Make sure you have comprehensive information about the park(s) you’re visiting, even if it’s not the first time you’re going. Learn about new rides or amenities they offer, as well as any height restrictions and health warnings for the rides. Get a map if possible, and involve your kids in the planning process. They’ll start enjoying the trip weeks before you take off!

-- Don’t follow the crowds. Do the opposite, and you’ll find shorter lines and fewer crowds around. Leave the attractions closer to the gate for later, and start with the ones in the back. Also, avoid the food courts between noon and two. Instead, have lunch earlier or later.

-- Bend the rules. It’s OK not to stick to every single aspect of the plan the family made. If you and the kids enjoy a ride so much that you want to take it again, even if the line is really long, just do it! The idea is for everyone to have a great time, not to go on every single ride just for the sake of it.

-- Be prepared. There’s no way to avoid carrying a backpack all day long while visiting a theme park, but you can make it a lighter one if you get the travel size of the items you need (sunscreen, allergy or motion sickness medicines, etc.). Distribute items like energy bars, other snacks and water among the oldest members of the family in small fanny packs, and shop for souvenirs and stuffed animals at the end of the day, so you don’t have to drag them along.

-- Break them in. Train your kids (and yourself) beforehand for the ultra-long walks at the parks. Start with shorter walks around the neighborhood several weeks before departure, and increase the intensity of the exercise as time goes by. Break in new shoes or sneakers you plan to take on the trip, to make sure they’re comfortable and supportive. Remember to bring at least two pairs of shoes for each member of the family, so you can alternate every other day. Your feet will thank you.

-- Listen to your kids. They helped plan the itinerary for a reason, so ask them what they liked the best every day and what other things they’d like to do now that you’re all there. Don’t force them to go on rides they are not ready for, even if their ages or height meet the park’s requirements.

Members can log on to DealPass (http://www. dealpass. com/) for exclusive savings on travel arrangements as well as entertainment, meals, shopping and other benefits to maximize their vacation budgets during vacations or when spending quality family time -- all provided through AP9 Todays Escapes.

Fisher Development Celebrates 'Topping Off' of Crystal Point on Jersey City, N. J.'s Waterfront

Fisher Development Associates has announced the "Topping Off" of Crystal Point, the iconic new condominium building rising high above the Hudson River along Jersey City, NJ's waterfront. Preview sales are now open for dazzling 42-story building.

Jersey City, N. J. (PRWEB) December 3, 2008

Fisher Development Associates has announced the "Topping Off" of Crystal Point, the iconic new condominium building rising high above the dazzling Hudson River along Jersey City, NJ's waterfront.

Construction workers recently hoisted the last steel beam into place at the distinctive 42-story building (http://www. crystalpointcondos. com) which features 269 premium Jersey City new homes with sweeping views of the New York City skyline.

"The 'Topping off' is significant for several reasons," says Brian Fisher, a development principal. "It indicates the highest structural point in the building's construction has been attained and is a time to celebrate the hard work and safe efforts of the construction team.

"It also means we've taken another step in bringing this remarkable new offering of new Hudson County condominium homes and resort-style amenities to life."

Preview sales are now open for Crystal Point. Designed by noted architectural firm Gruzen Samton, the new condominium homes are situated a mere 25 feet from the Hudson Rver on the final piece of developable waterfront land in Jersey City that directly faces Manhattan. Each home will have magnificent water and skyline views stretching from lower Manhattan to the George Washington Bridge, a rare advantage experienced only at Crystal Point.

The stunning new landmark offers magnificently-appointed one-, two-and three-bedroom new home home designs (http://www. crystalpointcondos. com), an extensive offering of resort-like amenities and services and world-class views to create an upscale living experience unrivaled on either side of the river.

"Crystal Point brings a new level of style and elegance to downtown Jersey City," Mr. Fisher adds. "Featuring all aspects of a luxury resort with all of the comforts of home, this iconic new building is sure to captivate buyers with its sleek and cutting-edge living spaces, breathtaking panoramic views, five-star amenities and a dramatic waterfront location nestled between the charming Paulus Hook neighborhood and the Hudson River."

Crystal Point's (http://www. crystalpointcondos. com) distinctive, crystalline-style glass exterior was designed to maximize the building's riverfront setting and reflect its exclusivity and diversity, notes Adrienne Albert, CEO of The Marketing Directors, Inc., Crystal Point's marketing and exclusive sales agent. Inside, homes will range from 800 to 1,817 square-feet of well-designed living space complemented by a wide array of premium finishes.

"Stylish features will grace these upscale condominium homes in New Jersey, including kitchens with Italian Pedini wood and glass cabinetry, granite stone counters, under cabinet task lighting, full height pantries, center islands and breakfast bars and full Jenn-Air appliance suite," Ms. Albert points out.

"Floor-to-ceiling windows will drench the homes in natural light and most of the residences will offer balconies, expanding the already sensational views. Each residence will also have SMART home technology capabilities and washer and dryers."

The dramatic elegance and sophistication of Crystal Point (http://www. crystalpointcondos. com) is further enhanced by its superb amenities where no detail has been left out to create a resort-like living experience for residents. Ideal for maintaining a healthy body and mind, the Crystal Spa will feature a thermal bath, sauna, steam and treatment room. Residents will also enjoy a yoga/aerobics room, game room with billiard and poker table, state-of-the-art fitness center, lounge with catering kitchen and flat screen televisions, kid's room and a screening room within the Crystal Club.

"An expansive outdoor deck overlooking the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline will feature a lap pool, hot tub, private cabanas and lounge chair seating, as well as a BBQ and dining area, fire pits with accompanying seating, and a children's play area," Ms. Albert points out. "The full-service building will also offer a professional concierge, and valet parking, while a lobby level restaurant will serve residents and the community at large. In addition, there will be access to the new Marina currently being planned by Jersey City and all the riverfront enjoyment and recreation it contains."

Crystal Point homeowners will also appreciate the community's convenient location just steps from a Light Rail station which provides direct access to other "Gold Coast" locales and numerous PATH trains and ferries that whisk commuters into Manhattan. “For conscious consumers and information seekers we provide fast, relevant search results that help people to find what they're looking for in the area they live in,” he adds.

“We also want to play a role in bringing about personal and global transformation by inspiring and helping people to raise their awareness,” says colleague Nick Sturgeon, an international expert and advisor to small businesses.

Background information for editors:

USA:

In the US, complementary and alternative medicine is a $30 billion industry and more than 60% of health plans are thought to include complementary and alternative medicine services as a covered benefit. More than 70 percent of adults aged 50 or older use some type of alternative or complementary therapy, such as herbal medicine, meditation or seeing a chiropractor - according to new study findings, and more than one third of all U. S. Adults (36%) use services of this kind.

UK:

Research earlier this year suggested that more than two thirds of British people believe that complementary therapies, including nutrition and herbal medicine, can be as valid as conventional treatment. Britons spend an estimated £130 million a year on alternative therapies, such as acupuncture and reflexology, and that is expected to rise by £70 million over the next four years.

Canada:

In a survey, almost three-quarters of respondents (73%) had used at least one alternative therapy sometime in their lives. Approximately 88% of alternative therapy users found the medical care they received to be either “very” or “somewhat” helpful. Of those who used alternative medicine in the 12 months prior, 44.3% discussed doing so with their doctor. Canadians spent more than $1.8 billion out-of-pocket on visits to providers of alternative medicine. If the additional money spent on books, medical equipment, herbs, vitamins and special diet programs is included, the estimated total spending on alternative medicine in Canada increases to more than $3.8 billion.

Australia:

Australians now spend an estimated A$2.3 billion a year on alternative medicines and therapies, a recent survey shows a significant increase in the use of alternative therapies, with 44% of men and 60% of women using alternative medicines, and 20% of men and 26% of women now consulting alternative practitioners.

Primary Organic Therapy Inc. is Approved to Operate a Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Maine

Primary Organic Therapy Inc. is Approved to Operate a Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Maine

Maine’s initial round of medical marijuana dispensary approvals is now complete, culminating with the acceptance of a non-profit dispensary in district 7 that cites the importance of education, community, and compliance.

Machias, ME (PRWEB) September 1, 2010

Primary Organic Therapy, a non-profit medical marijuana dispensary, proudly announces their selection by Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services for operation in Whitneyville to serve Washington and Hancock counties. The new facility will be located at 90 Community Drive in Sanford, and will open for business in December of 2010.

“We are pleased for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Maine by offering alternative medicinal care to the community,” says Derek Brock, founder of Primary Organic Therapy. “Our focus is upon patient education to introduce new treatment options for a variety of ailments that may not be fully served by traditional pharmaceutical methods.”

Primary Organic Therapy will be providing more than ten different types of genetic varieties of marijuana. These varieties are commonly referred to as “strains” and each of exhibits different medicinal properties. These different medicine types offer a wide array of treatments for depression, anxiety, insomnia, migraines, cancer, arthritic pain, glaucoma, nausea, anorexia, and mental disorders such as autism and Alzheimer’s disease.

“While we recognize that there are many pill-based treatment plans available, we have seen a large trend towards herbal and organic treatment options. We believe good American citizens are becoming aware of the adverse long-term effects of digesting manufactured medicine, and the growing list of unexpected side effects. We are pleased to be offering quality alternative medicine that can be obtained in a legal and controlled manner,” continues Mr. Brock. “All medicine dispensed at our location will be produced under strict quality assurance and cutting-edge testing procedures to assure consistent potency and availability. We’ve carefully spent our time investigating dispensary models in other legal states and feel we have developed superior methods to provide Maine reliable care options.”

Primary Organic Therapy’s application states that a trained physician will be on site during all operating hours to provide recommendation cards for qualifying patients, and to answer patient questions. Educational materials will be freely distributed to potential patients looking to expand their treatment options. A full featured website will also be made available enabling patients to learn about currently available marijuana medicines from the privacy of their homes. In the interest of maintaining the highest level of legal compliance, Internet location technology will be utilized to restrict website access only to residents of legal medical marijuana states.

Mr. Brock finalizes, “Together with the state of Maine we are taking bold new steps in patient care. Education, community safety, and legal compliance are our highest priorities.”

"New Report Defines The Value Of Disease Management Programs"

"New Report Defines The Value Of Disease Management Programs"

There is much interest in focusing on a standard, industry-wide definition of disease management today. A new executive briefing, "Defining the Value of Disease Management: How Health Plans Are Aiming Form Improved Outcomes, Healthier Members And Cost Savings," has been developed by the Managed Care Information Center.

Manasquan, NJ (PRWEB) December 14, 2003

Although disease management (DM) programs have become a staple of many healthcare plans, providing their worth financially is a goal not yet accomplished.

The reason is simple; there is no universally accepted set of outcome metrics and standard methodologies for evaluating the worth of any particular program.

But that may soon change as DM providers focus on a standard, industry-wide definition of disease management, according to Robert Jenkins, president of The Managed Care Information Center (MCIC).

The new executive briefing, "Defining the Value of Disease Management: How Health Plans Are Aiming Form Improved Outcomes, Healthier Members And Cost Savings," has been developed by the MCIC editorial staff.

The 68-page special report includes information on DM program fundamentals, such as establishing a program management team, patient registry, treatment guidelines, patient education, patient monitoring, treatment interventions, outcomes measurement, program reports and screening programs.

The report offers advice on how to assess a DM company before signing a contract and looks at milestones the industry has reached by examining "soft dollars" vs. "hard dollars," according to Jenkins.

The report includes the following sections:

Quantifying The Value Of Disease Management In Managed Care;

Key Elements For An Effective DM Program;

How Health Plans Are Aiming To Improve Outcomes, Improve Members Risk Status And Achieve Savings;

Disease Management — The Industry;

Validating The Care Management From DM; and

Disease Management Online.

Also, the results of an exclusive survey conducted by the MCIC, assessing whether DM is living up to its promise for managed care is included.

Details on pilot programs are revealed in the report, noted Jenkins, including the Arizona Medicare+Choice PlanÂ’s DM program targeting patients with congestive heart failure and osteoarthritis, and a New York health planÂ’s innovative DM program serving congestive heart failure patients which resulted in an 83 percent decrease in hospital admissions.

Another pilot program included in the report reduced the length of stay and re-admissions in the neonatal intensive care unit.

"This report provides a ‘cover the bases’ look at what’s working in DM, the factors that go into accurately measuring the ROI [return on investment] of DM and the development leading to accreditation of DM programs by the leading agencies," said Jenkins.

Look Ten Years Younger Due to Sex? AdultSexToys. com Launches Their Anti-aging Through Intimacy Campaign

Look Ten Years Younger Due to Sex? AdultSexToys. com Launches Their Anti-aging Through Intimacy Campaign

AdultSexToys. com launches their Anti-Aging through Intimacy Campaign

Santa Monica, CA (Vocus) May 18, 2010

Glowing skin due to pregnancy or other hormonal changes, even after sex, is not unheard of but is it realistic to think that sex on a regular basis could really make people look an average of ten years younger? According to a study conducted over the course of a decade by clinical neuropsychologist David Weeks and his colleagues at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital this may very well be the case. As a result, AdultSexToys. com has launched its Anti-Aging Through Intimacy Campaign starting May 15th through the end of June, offering a special 20% discount on sex toys for couples.

"Dr. Week's findings are not recent nor is the association between an active sex like and overall good health completely new. What we found most intriguing was that it wasn't strictly about sex, since neither casual sex nor cheating, according to Dr. Week;'s study, were found to slow the aging process down at all." said Nicole Irvin, spokesperson for AdultSexToys. com. That is why the campaign is called Anti-Aging through Intimacy.

"The sex doesn't work without a good relationship," Weeks says. "It works via a relationship that is very supportive and emphatic, in which both people are physically and emotionally compatible."

So where do sex toys come in? "We took an informal poll and found that it was women who were in serious committed long term relationships that often felt they had the least amount of time for sex or that their sex lives had actually slowed since the earlier years of their relationship. Introducing something new, whether a new perfume, piece of lingerie, adult erotica or sex toys was a way to encourage couples to reinvigorate their sex lives. It was something we wanted to raise awareness of with our customers and that is why we created Intimate2, a code that gives our customers 20% off on an unlimited number of sex toys for couples. And we couldn't think of a better time than the spring and summer months to launch a campaign promoting sexual intimacy."

"It's extremely important to your health," says Dr. Barbara Bartlik, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. "It promotes marital harmony. The stresses and strains become more manageable when a couple is having sex regularly."

In Dr. Week's study 3,500 European and American men and women ages 20-104, though most were between 45-55 years old. Each participant had been selected for the study by a panel of six judges who watched the interviewees through a one way mirror and subsequently guessed their ages. The participants ages were estimated to be from seven to 12 years younger than their actual ages and it turns out that having sex three times per week was the second-most important factor (second only to physical activity) in determining how young a person looked.

But what about the health benefits of orgasm in and of itself, which has been touted to do everything from boosting immune function to relieving stress? It turns out in Dr. Week's study sex and orgasm were considered one in the same.

"Sex is the most pleasurable activity people take part in, and because the orgasm is the most pleasurable of that, it's hard to separate it out," Weeks says. "It's hard to say if it accounts for 50 percent or 75 percent" of the beneficial effects."

"It seems far fetched to think that just because someone was solo all health benefits associated with orgasm would be ruled out" stated Irvin. "That said, while we'd love to see a study that showed anti-aging benefits of orgasm alone, we also wanted to celebrate Dr. Week's findings and make it just a little bit easier for couples across the U. S. to celebrate what they have.

Wildlife Trade Can Threaten Human and Animal Health Says The Wildlife Trust Alliance: Emerging Disease Outbreaks Demonstrate Need for Major Reassessment of Wildlife Trade Practices: Declaration Signed Today by Scientists from 10 Countries

Wildlife Trade Can Threaten Human and Animal Health Says The Wildlife Trust Alliance: Emerging Disease Outbreaks Demonstrate Need for Major Reassessment of Wildlife Trade Practices: Declaration Signed Today by Scientists from 10 Countries

Many emerging diseases such as SARS, monkeypox and HIV/AIDS originate in wild animals and are serious threates to global public health. The Wildlife Trust Alliance today called for a reassessment of current wildlife trade practices.

Bangalore, India (PRWEB) January 16, 2004

Responding to emerging diseases such as SARS, monkeypox, and HIV/AIDS that originated in wild animals and have become serious threats to global public health, The Wildlife Trust Alliance, an international network of leading national conservation organizations, today called for a reassessment of current wildlife trade practices. Dr. Mary Pearl, President of New York-based Wildlife Trust, Inc., the Convenor of the Alliance, says, “If disease issues linked to wild animal trade are not addressed, there can be serious health consequences. SARS alone killed over 700 people and cost US$ 50 billion to the global economy, affecting developed and developing countries alike. Most wild-caught animals found in pet shops and food markets have never been tested for diseases and parasites that can harm humans and other animals.”

In a declaration signed today by scientists from 10 countries – Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Sri Lanka, the United States, and Venezuela – Wildlife Trust Alliance members called on the world’s governments and international organizations; on their scientific, conservation and health agencies; academia; non-governmental organizations; and on the public who ultimately control these trades, to enact a program to reassess the trade in wildlife by:

1) Increasing public awareness about the destruction of wildlife and the spread of diseases associated with their trade;

2) Improving disease surveillance of the wildlife trade for pathogens of humans, livestock and wildlife;

3) Promoting adequate and standardized quarantine procedures and health documentation for wildlife transported across borders;

4) Funding research to understand and forecast the risks of disease transmission to people, livestock and wildlife;

5) Enhancing the capacity to monitor and enforce regulations on the trade in wildlife so that there is more effective oversight;

6) Strengthening legislation, the capacity for law enforcement and prosecution of people involved in illegal trade; and

7) Providing resources to strengthen local capacity to address these issues.

Around 75% of the emerging diseases affecting people are zoonotic (originate from wild or domestic animals and spread to humans), and a rising number of life-threatening diseases are being spread around the world by wildlife trade. Monkeypox, a serious infection caused by a virus of African primates and rodents was introduced into the U. S. in 2003 via Gambian rats that had become popular as exotic pets. The global outbreak of SARS originated in wild animals traded for food. In Africa, outbreaks of Ebola virus have repeatedly been linked to the hunting and transport of meat taken from wild animals infected by the virus. North American bullfrogs exported to Latin America from the U. S. to stock farms for the restaurant trade are hotspots for disease.

Trade in wildlife also threatens livestock. In March 2000, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) banned the import and interstate commerce of three types of African tortoises because African ticks carrying heartwater were found on imported tortoises. Heartwater is a disease of cattle, sheep and goats, and can cause mortality rates of 60% in cattle and up to 100% in sheep. Virulent strains of Newcastle disease, a lethal disease of poultry, have occurred in pet birds in the U. S. in all but three years since 1974. In 1971, a pet bird strain of the virus struck the poultry industry in California. Eradication took over two years and cost US$ 56 million in federal funds, and almost 12 million birds had to be destroyed.

Dr. Jon Paul Rodríguez, President of the Caracas, Venezuela-based organization Provita, and lead author of the Alliance declaration, says, “The negative effects of illegal wildlife trade on native species – whether because of direct exploitation or the spread of invading exotic species and disease, or by the threats posed to human well-being because of exposure to wildlife pathogens – clearly outweigh the economic benefits. For the most part, those benefits accrue to small groups of people, often operating outside of the law and linked with illegal activities such as drug and weapon smuggling.”

The scale of wildlife trade is large: the illegal trade alone is estimated at US$ 6.2 billion, according to Interpol, making it among the worldÂ’s most lucrative criminal activities. The group defines wildlife trade as any commercial transaction involving wild animals, dead or alive, and their parts and products.
