New Diploma in Society, Health and Development in Great Demand - 72 dpi Image of Diploma Students Available

As the new Diploma in Society, Health and Development (SHD) becomes available at Foundation, Higher and Advanced levels, demand for the Advanced Diploma is so great that three of the 39 consortia of schools, colleges and employers delivering it are already over-subscribed.

Bristol, UK (PRWEB) September 26, 2008

Overall, in excess of 3,000 young people are starting to study the Diploma in SHD this month (September 2008). Growth is expected to be exponential and by this time next year it is anticipated there will be around 100 consortia to address demand across each level. By 2010 the Diploma in SHD will also be available as an option within the Welsh baccalaureate.

Skills for Health, the sector skills council for the healthcare sector, led the development of the content of the Diploma - in partnership with Skills for Care, Skills Active and Skills for Justice - and is now working on the next stage, which will incorporate specialist learning at the Advanced level and include guidance for employers on how they can get involved locally.

Alder Hey Hospital in Merseyside is the first hospital in England to establish a permanent on-site training base for the Diploma in SHD. Young people will be taught directly by the hospital's own staff, with all learning co-ordinated, managed and performed by professional and clinical Alder Hey personnel.

Moya Sutton, Director of Nursing at Alder Hey said:

"Our part in teaching the Diploma in Society, Health and Development is helping Alder Hey Hospital to address long-term sustainable workforce succession planning for the future. We are delighted that so many young people have chosen to study at Alder Hey and we look forward to seeing them experiencing a different style of learning in our dedicated classrooms."

Sharon Ensor, Divisional Manager, Youth, at Skills for Health, added:

"The health sector offers fantastic career opportunities to many young people and we applaud the team at Alder Hey for setting up a dedicated training base on-site where youngsters can find out for themselves about the reality of different roles.

"As well as helping to ensure that young people are best placed to make properly informed choices when the time comes for them to select a career, for those who do decide that healthcare is right for them, Alder Hey Hospital is likely to be front of mind as a potential employer.

"Skills for Health's ongoing role will be to encourage other employers in the sector to get involved so they too can reap the benefits and play their part in developing the healthcare workforce of the future".

About the Diploma in Society, Health and Development Diploma (Diploma in SHD) - www. skillsforhealth. org. uk/diploma (http://www. skillsforhealth. org. uk/diploma)

The Diploma in SHD is an exciting and innovative new qualification for 14 - 19 year-olds in England. It involves a unique mix of general education, essential skills, hands-on experience and employer-based learning that prepares young people for work or further study.

Diplomas are new employer designed qualifications offered at three levels in 14 broad employment sectors. They represent the most important change to the country's education system for more than a century and have been developed with support and input from employers, employer bodies, unions, further and higher education, training providers and awarding bodies. Completing a Diploma allows young people to progress to further study, university or employment.

During the design of the Diploma in Society, Health and Development, these stakeholders - together with four Sector Skills Councils from the employer-led Skills for Business network - have collaborated extensively as part of the Diploma in SHD's 'Diploma Development Partnership' (DDP). These SSCs involved are:

SkillsActive (representing the wider children's workforce)
Skills for Care (representing adult social care)
Skills for Health (representing the health sector)
Skills for Justice (representing community justice)

Skills for Health is the lead SSC in the design of the Diploma in SHD and has taken responsibility for setting up and chairing the DDP to produce the Diploma's final 'statement of content'.

The Diploma in SHD will be available in selected schools and colleges in England with effect from September 2008 (for details see the 'Gateway' section of the DCSF website at http://yp. direct. gov. uk/diplomas/where_to_study/ (http://yp. direct. gov. uk/diplomas/where_to_study/) For further information about the Diploma in Society, Health and Development visit www. skillsforhealth. org. uk/diploma (http://www. skillsforhealth. org. uk/diploma) or email diploma@skillsforhealth. org. uk

Theramedix Announces a Breakthrough in Enzyme Technology

Theramedix Announces a Breakthrough in Enzyme Technology

Exciting news in the enzyme industry. Theramedix is preparing for its launch to health care practitioners in a couple of weeks and has given the world a sneak preview of what's to come. They have unveiled Thera-blend, a new sophisticated technology that addresses the varying pH levels of the body, guaranteeing higher activity and effectiveness.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) April 20, 2005

Theramedix announced today that health care practitioners will now have access to an enzyme product line that addresses the varying pH levels of the body and specifically the GI Tract. Since the human body presents varying pH levels in the GI tract from pH2-pH 8 (2 –acidic in stomach and 8 –alkaline in small intestine), enzyme formulations should be active in these environments to be considered effective. To address this issue, the company has developed a proprietary Thera-blend™ system for the top 4 categories of enzymes: protease, lipase, amylase and cellulase.

This means that through Thera-Blend technology each of these categories are represented by multiple enzymes, guaranteeing higher activity and natural integrity of each formula. For example, there are four different proteases in the protease Thera-blend (protease is the enzyme that digests protein). The Thera-blended proteases are formulated specifically to deliver efficacy at the entire pH range found in the body. The goal of Theramedix in offering this sophisticated technology is to provide a plant based enzyme line with the highest potency available to the Health Care Professional market.

“Enzymes can provide many health benefits, but the benefits are only as effective as the delivery system. Why formulate something that does not work optimally in the body?” said Kalyna Hanover, Director of Theramedix. “The Thera-blend technology is a true innovation in that it offers genuine functional benefits. Health care professionals no longer have to question whether a particular enzyme is working at various pH levels throughout the digestive system. We have optimized enzyme activity in a wider pH range, while continuing to focus on efficacy.“

“As a significant growth driver at Theramedix, our enzyme research has received our full attention and focus,” said Tom Bohager, CEO of the company. “Innovation has driven our novel Thera-blend technology, and placed our line of products at the forefront of the enzyme category. You would be hard pressed to find another company with such commitment to enzyme therapy.” Unlike most of their competitors, Theramedix does not make vitamin supplements. The company specializes in only enzyme formulations, which range in benefit from enhanced absorption of nutrients to systemic immune support. The new line of enzymes will be widely available in mid-May. All Theramedix products are 100% vegan and vegetarian without any fillers. In addition, each batch is third-party tested for efficacy and label standardization.

Theramedix, a subsidiary of Enzymedica, formulates a premiere line of plant based, pharmaceutical grade enzymes to health care professionals. Theramedix is based in San Francisco, California. The distribution facility is in Venice, Florida. Log onto www. theramedix. net for more information. For media inquires call Constance St. John, The St. John Group, 415-454-2243.

AIIM and ASTM International Publish PDF Healthcare Best Practices Guide

AIIM and ASTM International Publish PDF Healthcare Best Practices Guide

AIIM, the international authority on Enterprise Content Management, and ASTM International, one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world, announce the publication of the Best Practices Guide – PDF Healthcare (AIIM/ASTM BP-01-2008).

Silver Spring, MD, and West Conshohocken, PA (Vocus) February 25, 2008

AIIM], the international authority on Enterprise Content Management, and ASTM International, one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world, announce the publication of the Best Practices Guide – PDF Healthcare (http://www. aiim. org/product. asp? ID=1675) (AIIM/ASTM BP-01-2008).

This document describes a proposed, voluntary, industry-wide reference tool and guideline to describe the features and functionality of the Portable Document Format (PDF) for the healthcare industry. It is designed to facilitate a means by which healthcare information is captured, exchanged, preserved, and protected so that participants within the healthcare system can use the well-known and trusted PDF specification as the electronic container of the information.

This guide was developed to promote and accelerate the adoption of a digital healthcare record model using XML-based standards. With the introduction of complex healthcare industry legal and regulatory requirements that directly impact the patient and healthcare provider, the adoption of the PDF Healthcare Best Practices Guide will be driven by the need for usability, portability, simplicity and availability of healthcare information.

"Using PDF in healthcare will greatly improve the communications between patients and their providers and all the members of the healthcare chain as well as provide greater control of the patient information," said John Mancini, President, AIIM. "This will ensure that the patient is an active participant in the exchange of critical healthcare information."

"The new best practices guide can help healthcare providers reduce the unnecessary errors created in the transmission of paper-based health records, by advocating and defining an electronic solution," said Melonie Warfel, Director, WW Standards and Life Sciences at Adobe Systems. "The use of PDF provides users with a familiar electronic environment, and helps eliminate the need for specialized technology or proprietary readers/viewers giving consumers access to their healthcare information at any time, anywhere and on any device."

"PDF Healthcare, through the use of the PDF format, provides an additional cost effective, easy to implement and secure means for the exchange and communication of personalized patient and provider information," said Omid Moghadam, Director, Personal Health Record Programs, Intel.

Future work being conducted by the voluntary PDF Healthcare Working Group is the development of two companion documents to the Best Practices Guide - an Implementation and Demonstration Guide. These guides will provide use cases and implementation examples of PDF for healthcare documents and records. The Best Practices Guide will be available on the AIIM and ASTM web sites for download. The Implementation and Demonstration Guides are being developed by AIIM and will be available for download from the AIIM website. New Jersey and New York Groups Announce New Program to Reduce HIV / AIDS Rates Among Transgender Women

New Jersey and New York Groups Announce New Program to Reduce HIV / AIDS Rates Among Transgender Women

Hudson Pride Connections, a nonprofit, and New York Researchers at Hunter College Announce Creation of a New Program to Reduce HIV / AIDS Rates Among Transgender Women and Lead the Way for Other Programs

Jersey City, N. J. (PRWEB) October 26, 2006

Hudson Pride Connections (HPC), formerly Jersey City Connections, and the Hunter College Center for HIV Educational Studies and Training (CHEST) in New York have joined forces to create a program that will examine ways to effectively reduce HIV/AIDS rates among transgender women in Hudson County and the surrounding areas.

Transgender women represent a disproportionately high number of new HIV/AIDS infections in Hudson County. And the goal of this program is to reduce the rates of new infections among transgender women by promoting safer-sex practices, treating substance abuse and emphasizing the benefits of general health.

³The most telling thing about our existing transgender client base is the fact that they have no where else to turn,² HPC Director Guido Sanchez said. ³This marginalization makes the risk of HIV a startling reality one thta none of us should accept.²

The program is part of a Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) initiative to collaborate with community groups to develop and evaluate ground-breaking interventions. The program is based on HPC¹s ³Girls Living in the Trans Zone² (GLITZ) initiative which has been funded by the Prudential Foundation and through the federal Ryan White CARE Act distributed through Hudson County.

³This is an exciting opportunity for behavioral scientists and front-line community prevention workers to collaborate to benefit the lives of transgender women,² CHEST Director Dr. Jeffrey Parsons said. ³We have the opportunity to expand on the great work that HPC has done in this area to develop something really innovating. Ultimately, this could have a tremendous impact on the health of transgender women.²

Hudson Pride Connections (HPC), formerly known as Jersey City Connections and founded in 1993, serves the unmet needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, as well as HIV positive people of any orientation living in Hudson County, through supportive social services, prevention, outreach, advocacy, and development trainings for other service providers, to educate and empower all of our communities.

The Center for HIV Educational Studies and Training (CHEST, Dr. Jeffrey

Parsons, Director, is affiliated with Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and has a collaborative relationship with researchers at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC).

CHEST conducts research on social and psychological factors that contribute to HIV transmission. Studies at CHEST also seek to identify and promote strategies that prevent the spread of HIV and that improve the lives of people living with HIV. In addition to carrying out formative research, CHEST aggressively disseminates the findings of its studies to organizations serving persons with HIV and at risk for HIV.

Cookbook Author Offers Ideas for Fast and Healthy Meals

Cookbook Author Offers Ideas for Fast and Healthy Meals

Parents interested in ideas for fast and healthy meals will find help in a new video and an accompanying tip sheet from motivational speaker and allergy and celiac cookbook author, Lisa A. Lundy, which you can download free from her website.

Buffalo, N. Y. (Vocus) August 20, 2009

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (http://www. childrenshospitals. net/AM/Template. cfm? Section=Site_Map3&CONTENTID=46461&TEMPLATE=/CM/ContentDisplay. cfm) reports 16 percent of children (over 9 million) ages 6 to 19 years are overweight or obese - a number that has tripled since 1980. Another 15 percent of child are considered at risk of becoming overweight indicates the "Prevalance of Overweight and Obesity Among Children and Adolescents", (2004).

Overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults. According to a national household survey published in Pediatrics in 2004 (http://pediatrics. aappublications. org/cgi/content/abstract/113/1/112), fast food consumption has increased fivefold among children since 1970 resulting in an estimated extra six pounds per year, per child. Obesity is a serious health, which is associated with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and Type 2 diabetes. Parents looking for ways to make fast and healthy meals can find help in the form of a new video and tip sheet with recipes from motivational speaker and cookbook author, Lisa A. Lundy, which you can download free from her website at http://www. TheSuperAllergyCookbook. com (http://www. TheSuperAllergyCookbook. com).

Lundy's three children have a variety of food allergies, which eliminate foods containing gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and a few other allergens. What that means for Lundy is there is literally no "fast food" for them unless it comes out of the freezer, slow cooker, or is simply a quick cooking meal. As a working mother, time is of the essence for this busy woman. She has learned how to save time and money in the kitchen and still have healthy foods for her family. "You can have delicious tasting and nutritious foods and not spend hours and hours in the kitchen every day," Lundy said. "What is takes is good recipes, planning and preparation. And if you are cooking for children, by all means get them involved."

She practices what she preaches. Her two sons, ages 12 and 10, can make baked goods - from scratch - with no supervision. Her youngest, Anne who is 7 years old, can make a trail mix from scratch and is quickly becoming an expert salad chef. "Getting children involved in the meal planning, shopping and preparation can boost their self-esteem and pride. Plus, it often helps to increase the kinds and numbers of foods a child will eat" said Lundy.

Lundy is the author of The Super Allergy Girl™ Allergy & Celiac Cookbook - From A Mother Who Knows™, a gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, peanut free, tree nut free and other allergen free resource for both beginners and advanced cooks. Her daughter has had severe health issues due to an inability to absorb vitamins and nutrients from her diet - an issue that has set the family back over $100,000 in uncovered medical bills. The prognosis for Lundy's daughter Anne was poor at best given the level of severe malnutrition her blood testing results showed. With the help of several good physicians and multiple therapies, Anne has improved substantially and has a bright future. In the process the whole family has had to learn the importance of nutrition.

To help other parents and consumers, Lundy shares what she has learned by uploading free white papers, tip sheets, recipes, videos and other documents to her website - http://www. Confessions of Three Shopaholic Authors: Recovery Conversations Begin May 14th

Confessions of Three Shopaholic Authors: Recovery Conversations Begin May 14th

In live, one-hour conversations, held on the evenings of May 14th, 21st, and 28th, Dr. April Benson will talk with three remarkable women, each one a serious shopaholic who's come out the other side and then written the story of her unique recovery. Listeners will be able to email questions during the conversations and will have access to session recordings.

New York, New York (PRWEB) April 30, 2009

Dr. April Benson, who helps compulsive buyers regain control of their lives and has written two books describing the disorder and how to overcome it, will host a 3-session series with three authors, all recovered or recovering shopaholics. Each one has written an important book about her recovery.

On Thursday evening, May 14th, Dr. Benson will interview Alexis Hall, author of In the Red: The Diary of a Recovering Shopaholic. Hall's book is a record of her successful struggle to climb off the consumer escalator and climb out of nearly £32,000 in debt. Her methods are inventive, life-affirming, and likely to bring a chuckle. To economize, for example, Hall changes her mode of transportation to a scooter--which, she delights in telling us, affords her "a vroom with a view."

Lest it all seem easy, however, we also see how in a split second Hall's determination can be interrupted by irritability, fierce jealousy of her partner's new clothes, and powerful impulses to start buying again. In the end, however, her will and playfulness triumph.

In the second session, on Thursday evening, May 21st, Dr. Benson will talk with Avis Cardella. Her book, Spent: Memoirs of a Shopping Addict, lets us ride shotgun on the heady and harrowing journey of her overshopping misadventures. Set to the tom-tom beat of New York City in the 90's, it follows her into a world of luxury labels, classic cars, Hamptons homes, and polo matches.

Before long, though, "credit card debts mounted, rents went unpaid, money was borrowed, and unscrupulous men appeared. Ultimately, I was faced with this choice: have the courage to confront my addiction and what's really fueling it--or watch my life go into freefall."

In the final session, Thursday evening, May 28th, Dr. Benson will talk with Neradine Tisaj, author of How To Give Up Shopping (or at least cut down). Tisaj recognized her debilitating shopping problem, but when she sought professional advice about solving it, what she got was surprisingly inane. "Save money," recommended one financial planner--advice, she says, that's about as useful as telling a couch potato to "just exercise more."

Tisaj devised her own way back to conscious, healthy spending. Determined to save money but still enjoy her life, Tisaj devised her own way back to conscious, healthy spending. How to Give Up Shopping is a call to action for anyone who would like to save but also to live. Candid and entertaining, it's peppered with genuinely helpful tips and leavened with anecdotes.

Cost for the three-session series is $45, with a $10 discount for early registration (by May 4th). Listeners will be able to ask questions during the conversations, and they'll also have access to recordings of the sessions afterwards. To register, or for more information, go to In the Red? Spent? How to Give Up Shopping (or at least cut down) (http://www. stoppingovershopping. com/conversations. html).

About Dr. Benson:
April Lane Benson, PhD, is a psychologist who specializes in the treatment of compulsive buying, and works with people, both individually and in groups. She is the author of I Shop, Therefore I Am: Compulsive Buying and the Search for Self and To Buy or Not to Buy: Why We Overshop and How to Stop. Dr. Benson appears regularly in the media--on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Fox News Weekend Live, CBS Evening News, ABC News Now, and the BBC World Business Report. How Does An American President Give A State Of The Union In 2010 Without Mentioning Toxic Chinese Drywall?

How Does An American President Give A State Of The Union In 2010 Without Mentioning Toxic Chinese Drywall?

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is stunned that a sitting US President would fail to mention toxic Chinese drywall as a national disaster, effecting 100,000's of US homeowners in last nights State of the Union speech. According to the group,"President Obama has never mentioned toxic Chinese drywall one time, since his swearing in, even though its been in the news everyday since February 2009. What happened to the pledge about never failing in a US disaster like Katrina?" The group says,"even worse-this President is going to Tampa, Florida today to talk about clean energy jobs, high speed trains, and the environment? What about the completely innocent 100,00's of US homeowners stuck in a toxic home with little to no good choices-except for walking away from their American dream-living through the worst homeowner environmental disaster in US history?" For more information please contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 28, 2010

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center has been attempting to get help for completely innocent US homeowners, stuck in a home with toxic Chinese drywall for about a year. While Florida is the current epicenter of this disaster, other effected US States include, Louisiana, Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Southeast Texas, and Georgia. The group says,"The best this President has been able to muster so far has been a pathetic response to this disaster, is the US Consumer Products Safety Commission? This approach has not worked, it is an insult to all US taxpayers, and the USCPSC is like dealing with the DMV." The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center says, "We are talking about numerous states that are disaster areas because of toxic Chinese drywall, or US drywall manufacturers that used toxic Chinese gypsum, we are talking about sick homeowners, we are talking about a home/real estate that is worth nothing, and we are talking about a US President that does not get it." For more information please contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

Note: One correction in last nights President Obama's State of his Union from the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center: "When the average US Citizen sees what toxic Chinese drywall has done to 100,000's of completely innocent US homeowners & their families-no one will ever want a product made in China again. This disaster will also be a game changer for the US homebuilding industry."

Problems On The Horizon-Update: The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center says, "There is no such thing as a 100% sure fire test to determine drywall toxicity in a home. Toxicity testing has to include sulfides & formaldehyde. We think this disaster first became apparent in the US Southeast in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Virginia & Southeast Texas, because these states have some of the highest humidity levels in the US." The group is saying,"What about the other 45 states? We think we now have discovered toxic drywall in California, Nevada, Indiana. Why is the federal government not doing a better job for these homeowners-Where is President Obama? A DMV type federal approach is not needed-leadership is needed." The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is blasting President Obama for his failure to lead in this crisis. " The US Consumer Product Safety Commission admits Chinese drywall is corroding copper-but no mention of health effects of those who live in the homes, including children?" The other issue of great concern is new, remodeled, or homes that suffered storm damage since 2000-that have intermixed drywall-good-with bad.

What are the signs, symptoms or indicators of toxic Chinese Drywall? The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center says, "In Florida, the US Southeast, Virginia, or other states known to have toxic Chinese drywall, the four biggest symptoms/indicators of toxic Chinese drywall we hear are, air conditioning coil failures, failed electrical appliances/flickering lights, black copper, combined with health side effects that include non stop upper respiratory problems, to severe headaches, to nose bleeds, to all sorts of strange rashes." But what about that sulphur smell? The group says, "Some homes have the sulphur smell, some do not. We do not think that the smell of sulphur is necessarily the best indicator for toxic Chinese drywall. We think a far better indicator for homes, at least in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Southeast Texas, Mississippi, Virginia, or other humid, warm states are air conditioning coil failures, electrical problems, combined with all, or some of the homeowner's family are sick. The time lines are 2001 to early 2009." For more information, homeowners can contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center anytime at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. com (http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. com)

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is saying, "We fear homeowners in subdivisions, or condominiums are not talking to each other, or sharing information with each other. We still want to hear from homeowners with Knauf Tianjin, because we fear neighbors, never shared deadline information with other neighbors during the holidays. Instead of having 2000 signed up, there could be 20,000 homes that qualify." The group is saying,"If you have Chinese drywall in your homes we want to hear from you, or your neighbors. If you have domestic drywall in your home, and you are sick when you are in the house-and not sick when you are not---let us know who you are. We will try to help you figure this out." How can someone check to see what type of drywall is in their home. The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is saying, "this is a very inexact science. The easiest way to check to see if you have toxic Chinese drywall in your home is to carefully check to see what is written on the back of your attics drywall, and give us a call-do not start tearing out drywall-until we know it safe to do." For more information please contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

SteelEye LifeKeeper Safeguards Maintenance System for Beijing's Busiest Metro Line

SteelEye LifeKeeper Safeguards Maintenance System for Beijing's Busiest Metro Line

Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) September 21, 2009

Menlo Park, CA - September 21, 2009 (PRWEB) - SteelEye Technology, Inc. (steeleye. com), a leading provider of business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for multi-vendor IT infrastructures, and Alstom Transport, a global leader in equipment services for power generation and rail transport, today announced the deployment of SteelEye® LifeKeeper® for Linux to protect mission-critical applications of the maintenance system services for Beijing Metro Line 2, a rapid transport rail network serving the urban and suburban districts of Beijing. The goal of this implementation is to control and manage high availability and potential faults to ensure the continuous availability of maintenance services for the Chinese capital's two essential metro lines.

SteelEye LifeKeeper for Linux was selected by Alstom Transport as a proven Linux environment virtual solution, offering continuous availability of the Bejing Metro system. A software application that ensures the continuous availability of applications and data by creating a fault resilient environment for virtual machines, SteelEye LifeKeeper monitors applications to ensure that any fault is automatically detected and rectified while maintaining uninterrupted services.

"We implemented SteelEye LifeKeeper for its simplicity of use and its efficiency," said Maurice Guizard, R&D Manager for Alstom Urbalis platform centralised maintenance. "High availability is key for the maintenance of modern transport systems. As there isn't much staff on the ground to understand and take action, an efficient centralized system needs to be available. With LifeKeeper, our software applications and databases are centralised and managed 24/7 to ensure that an alert will be sent to the most skilled individual to resolve an issue."

SteelEye LifeKeeper guarantees continuous operations of the Alstom maintenance system reaching a 99.995 percent uptime rate for business critical maintenance applications. In addition, failover capabilities provide a service window for maintenance to be conducted on the first server while the second server continues to operate, which means Alstom can plan for a maximum downtime of only two minutes. The SteelEye solution also enables fault diagnostics to be sent remotely to operators making it no longer necessary for the Alstom team to ask operators to proactively check each deployed server individually.

The solution was distributed by iO Partner, an authorized SteelEye solution centre in France, and configured by Adelux. Given the success of LifeKeeper in China, Alstom plans to continue working with iO Partner to replicate the Beijing Metro implementation in future metro projects in Europe, Asia and South America.

"The fact that Alstom chose to integrate SteelEye LifeKeeper within a highly complex urban transport infrastructure project demonstrates Alstom's confidence in SteelEye for its reliable solutions and the quality of its deployment and technical support," said François Samarcq, managing director of iO Partner.

"SteelEye remains committed to meeting the highest levels of availability customers need for evolving business requirements," said Bob Williamson, executive vice president of product management for SteelEye. "This includes ensuring business continuity and high availability for a critical component of the transport system, such as Beijing Metro, as well as offering ease of configuration to scale to changing customer requirements."

SteelEye's LifeKeeper maintains the high availability of clustered Linux systems by monitoring system and application health, maintaining client connectivity and providing uninterrupted data access. For more information visit steeleye. com (http://www. steeleye. com? campaign=Sep09C).

First Consulting Group Partners with AVOLENT to Provide Self-Service Electronic Billing and Settlement Solutions for the Healthcare Industry

First Consulting Group Partners with AVOLENT to Provide Self-Service Electronic Billing and Settlement Solutions for the Healthcare Industry

SaaS Application Solution from First Consulting Group and AVOLENT Meets Customer Demand for Paperless Billing, Settlement, and Payment

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 23, 2007

AVOLENT, a leading provider of Self-Service Electronic Billing and Settlement software, and First Consulting Group (FCG), a leading provider of technology and consulting services for the healthcare industry, have established a partnership to deliver electronic billing and settlement for healthcare payers through First Portfolio, FCG's a-la-carte software implementation and selection service offering.

The healthcare payer market rules are being reset. Previously, regional payers could not effectively compete with large national payers because they are unable to invest in their own IT staff and operations, like larger payers. Due to a new strategic partnership between FCG and AVOLENT this is no longer the case. This partnership through FirstPortfolio creates a SaaS (Software as a Service) offering that automates the customer connection between the payer and the insured by creating a paperless billing, settlement, and payment relationship. Benefits include: dramatically decreased costs through the paperless offering, a great reduction of errors through real-time verification of the billing and payment transaction per individual covered life, and that correct payment, either partial or full, is applied to the right covered individual. Until now this ability was not available to smaller payers due to the excessive investment required in both dollars and IT capability.

By offering this solution via a web platform healthcare payers are assured of a knowledgeable team for implementation, a short time-to-market, and the lowest possible costs for an electronic billing solution that results in true competitive advantage. In addition, this paperless solution allows both the payer and the customer to do their part in preserving the environment and decreasing the environmental effects surrounding paper waste.

"Customer demand for electronic billing and settlement is increasing significantly and FCG is excited to partner with a best-of-breed partner, AVOLENT, in order to meet customer needs, " said Scot McConkey, President and General Manager of FCG's Health Plan Business Unit. "AVOLENT's proven success and expertise in the healthcare field made it an easy and mutually beneficial choice for us to partner. FirstPortfolio's inventive model, coupled with our ability to now offer a "green solution" helps strengthen all businesses involved, as well as the environment."

"The partnership between AVOLENT and FCG solidifies our leadership position to offer healthcare organizations an ebilling solution that streamlines both cost and time to launch electronic billing and settlement for healthcare organizations," stated Mike Seashols, CEO and Chairman of AVOLENT. "This unique partnership allows both organizations to leverage our industry knowledge to improve internal and customer adoption of electronic billing to create a paperless billing and payment environment--which translates into preserving more of our natural resources."

Best Bully Sticks Unveils New Treats

Sam's Yams and Antlerz join already impressive list of dog treats.

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) February 14, 2008

Best Bully Sticks, a leading provider of dog treats (http://www. bestbullysticks. com) and chews, is proud to announce the addition of two new products, Sam's Yams and Antlerz, to their already extensive product line.

Created from dried, human food quality fresh sweet potatoes, Sam's Yams (http://www. bestbullysticks. com/home/bbs_1202764297525/smartlist_24/sams_yams_by_front_porch_pets. html) are a great alternative to bully sticks. Rich in anti-oxidants, the sweet potatoes used to make Sam's Yams are, like all of Best Bully Sticks dog treats, great for the gums and teeth of your dog. Essentially a vegetable rawhide chew, dogs everywhere are already falling in love with these chews.

Also joining Sam's Yams on the Best Bully Sticks product line are Antlerz (http://www. bestbullysticks. com/home/bbs_1202764297525/smartlist_25/antlerz. html). A 100% natural, mineral rich dog chew, these treats are made from deer antlers. Wild deer shed their antlers once a year, and these shed antlers are gathered by ranch workers and turned into Antlerz chews. A renewable chew that won't splinter and chip like rawhide, Antlerz show high concentrations of calcium and phosphorus, with trace amounts of iron, zinc, and sodium - all great for a dog's health.

"We're so happy to be adding Sam's Yams and Antlerz to our product line," Avrum Elmakis, president of Best Bully Sticks said. "They're great products that we know our clients' dogs will love as much as ours do. They're the next best thing to a bully stick."

Just Delicious Diabetic Delights Bakery Makes Way for Steviva Brands

Just Delicious Diabetic Delights Bakery Makes Way for Steviva Brands

Interview with Donna Nelson (Co-Owner)

Portland, OR, (PRWEB) March 19, 2009

March 19th 2009 - Earlier this year, Just Delicious Diabetic Delights, a Bakery in Portland, Oregon that specializes in sugar free treats for diabetics and low-carb dieters, made a great discovery. While searching the web for affordable alternative sweeteners they came across the Steviva Brands site, featuring the new 100% natural sweetener Fructevia. They purchased a bag to try using it in their specialty-baked goods; the result has been three record-breaking winter months at their store. January and February are traditionally slow months for bakeries, and even with a discerning clientele and the state of the economy, Just Delicious has seen two exceptionally busy months.

Q: How did you hear about Fructevia?
A: Well, I knew about stevia for over a year and found Fructevia online. We ordered it and tried it in our fruit pies and cheesecake and it was great! On our Gluten Free cheese cake it caramelizes beautifully, and generally is far superior to the previous products we have used in the past.

Q: What caught your attention about it exactly?
A: We found that stevia was too concentrated in most of the other products we were researching and we had a hard time finding blends that cut the Stevia content with something natural. (Other sugar substitutes like Splenda, Sunnett and Sweet One are cut with Ace K and Aspartame; both raise questions about health risks for prolonged use.)
The fact that you could use half as much (Fructevia as sugar) really appealed to us. It would have been far less expensive to run a bakery on sugar, but our customers are well informed. They want to know about all of our ingredients.

Q: How do you plan to utilize Fructevia in your baked goods?
A: Fruit Pies, Cheesecake, Bavarian Cream are already being made with great success and sales using Fructevia. Cookies and a cranberry almond coffee cake are slated for production if their rise is right. If we can convert the pre-made chocolate and vanilla batters we get from our current distributor that go into other cakes we will begin to use Fructevia as well as Stevia Blend in cake recipes that are made from scratch. We are even trying the blends in our recipes at home with the family.

Q: How will it affect your business?
A: Our Customers ask if we are using Splenda. They also ask if we are using Stevia Blend, and to be able to say yes and offer it as retail…. it really gives us an edge. Cost is obviously a major concern for any business, but our customers are as curious as we are about health-positive alternatives that are made and distributed with low or zero impact on the environment.

Q: How will it affect your customers?
A: Our customer base is broad, we meet people who are recommended to us by their doctors and people who come here from the gym down the street. People in good health that want to stay there and people with challenges that need to make certain changes. We know cancer patients on dialysis and people with other pre-existing conditions that must lower, or stop, their sugar intake. Everyone is seeing a benefit. And our menu is very detailed, with stats on fat content, calories and even Weight Watchers points. I would say fifty percent of our customers are on the Weight Watchers diet.

Q: Would you recommend it to other health conscious bakers and culinary artists?
A: Absolutely! They need to start working with another medium. Doctors are actually referring patients to our bakery. Over 26.8 million Americans are diagnosed diabetic, and those who are just considering putting a stop to how much sugar they are taking in on a daily basis can indulge in Just Delicious' baked goods with a healthy conscience.

Green Tea Health Store Brings Nourishing Multivitamins Online

Green Tea Health Store Brings Nourishing Multivitamins Online

Newly-opened www. GreenTeaHealthStore. com is working to change the way people think about green tea, offering multivitamins infused with the healthful essence of green tea as well as supplements for a number of other ailments and maladies.

Mississauga, ON (PRWEB) March 31, 2008

While the benefits of green tea beverages are currently the buzz of the health community, newly-launched www. GreenTeaHealthStore. com has gone one step further in offering dietary supplements that harness the benefits of green tea, thinking beyond mere beverages. "I got started because of my personal interest in the world of wellness," explains Rosemarie Wilson, the site's founder. "When I dove deeper into the subject of green tea I realized that a lot of people are drinking it, but they don't know the health benefits. I felt that if more people understood the true benefits of green tea, then more people would be using it."

Rosemarie's dedication to the subject led her to a variety of alternative green tea products. "I needed something different from the common way of thinking of green tea, that being in terms of a simple beverage," she explains. "A lot of people are unfamiliar with the fact that green tea comes in so many different versions -- not just a beverage, but capsules, multivitamins with green tea, skin care products containing green tea... there are so many version of green tea right now on the market that can benefit people in the area of wellness."

It was Rosemarie's struggle with endometriosis that led her to seek it as a remedy, and from there to offer it to others. "I had my own struggle for the past 7 years, and when I studied the research about green tea I realized that, had I known what I know today, I'd have been able to avoid as many surgeries as I've had," says Rosemarie, whose condition has improved greatly since she began taking green tea supplements. "I care about people in terms of ensuring that they are well, and not only that, I like the alternative side of it. You can treat an ailment or disease or whatever not necessarily just with chemical or synthetic products. People suffering from high cholesterol or high blood pressure… green tea has been proven to help reduce cholesterol naturally. You can treat the ailment without causing any other side effects to your body."

Rosemarie discusses the benefits of green tea on her blog at www. GreenTeaHealthstoreBlog. com, allowing her customers to comment back and share their opinions. "I'd like the blog to give me a sort of platform to interact with customers," says Rosemarie. "I'd like to know what they think of the product; if they're looking for a certain product in particular that I'm not selling but could be selling. I'd also like to know if they are looking into getting more research feedback relating to green tea -- what the medical world is saying."

The blog also discusses special offers and discounts, which Rosemarie offers frequently to encourage people to get healthy. "I want them to be healthy. That's what I care about. One thing I know for sure is that once someone starts using green tea and seeing the benefits of it, it's very difficult for them to keep it to themselves. To encourage that, if my customers refer others to my site and their referrals make purchases, I will gladly repay them at 10% of the purchase value."

KC Healthcare Communications (www. kc-health. com) announces the launch of a social media community and radio show, RealWomen on Health! (www. blogtalkradio. com/realwomenonhealth (http://www. blogtalkradio. com/realwomenonhealth)) to support and connect women to become their own best wellness advocates. The first 30-minute show, themed "Myths & Misperceptions: Take Charge of Your Sexual Health and Well-Being" features conversation and commentary between RealWomen on Health! blogger and wellness consultant, Kelley Connors, MPH, and Lisa Martinez, Executive Director, The Women's Sexual Health Foundation (www. twshf. org). The social media radio show provides women with the real facts behind the misunderstandings that keep women from taking charge of sexual health, a topic that is frequently hyped in the media, especially around Valentine's Day. The first show launched on Saturday, February 14th is currently available for downloading via iTunes.

The web-based women's wellness radio show goes beyond information delivery to provide women with on-line chat and real time support from women's health researchers, experts in women's health and healthcare professionals. "Our mission is to support and encourage women to take charge of their wellness, become their own advocates, and support others in the process. Industry research shows that rising numbers of women are using social media much more than men, and in their efforts to connect socially, we want to make sure that credible health experts are inserted into their community conversations", says Ms. Connors.

According to research, over 34% of women use social media to obtain health information. With hundreds of new medicines and products in development for women, KC Healthcare Communications welcomes support from consumer packaged goods companies, health publishers, educational facilities, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and women's wellness centers for high quality content that is leveraged widely on the web to directly connect with women.

About RealWomen on Health!
RealWomen on Health! is an off-line and on-line community of women, that includes a wide range of women's health advocacy groups such as National Women's Health Resource Center, The Women's Health Foundation, The Women's Sexual Health Foundation, and the American Women's Health Foundation. Together with an ever-expanding network of advocacy group partnerships, experts in women's health create content for women to share with each other, supporting each other in becoming their own best wellness advocate.

Singapore Doctor Introduces Revolutionary Laser Treatment for Aging and Sun-Damaged Skin

Singapore Doctor Introduces Revolutionary Laser Treatment for Aging and Sun-Damaged Skin

Breakthrough reliant FRAXEL™ Laser Treatment repairs wrinkles and age spots like Photoshop® software – pixel by pixel, spot by spot.

Singapore (PRWEB) June 18, 2005

Dr. Low Chai Ling of The Sloane Clinic now offers a new aesthetic solution to turn back the clock on aging and sun-damaged skin that provides the benefits of traditional skin resurfacing techniques without the downtime and risks. This newest generation of non-invasive laser technology called Fraxel™ Laser Treatment treats periorbital (around the eyes) wrinkles and pigmented lesions such as age spots and sun spots on the face, neck, chest and hands.

Dr. Low reports that the Fraxel laser is specially designed to create thousands of microscopic thermal spots that form vertical columns of treated skin tissue that are separated and surrounded by unaffected, healthy skin. This innovative approach allows the doctor to treat only a small fraction of skin at a time so it heals much faster than if the entire area were treated at once. Moreover, and in contrast to non-ablative laser/light therapies, Fraxel Laser Treatment creates new epidermal skin in the treatment zones within 24 hours.

“Fraxel Laser Treatment represents a whole new method of skin repair. It rebuilds damaged skin like digital modification -- pixel by pixel, spot by spot,” says Dr. Low who is the first in Singapore to own the advanced laser. “Think of your skin as a family portrait or a digital photograph in need of high-quality restoration or touch-up. A painting is delicately restored one small area at a time, or a photo is digitally altered, pixel by pixel. That’s the scientific principle behind Fraxel Laser Treatment.”

Safe and effective, the Fraxel SR laser is cleared by the FDA and has undergone extensive testing in the lab and out in the field. Dr. Low says that based on her clinical experience, an effective treatment regime generally requires four to six treatment sessions, spaced about five to seven days apart. Noticeable results are typically achieved after three to five treatments.

“In our practice, we have observed nice improvements in uneven skin color, acne scars and wrinkles around the eye area. The treated skin is smooth, soft and fresh. Even acne is reduced. In fact, our patients are so thrilled with how young and attractive they look that their friends and family members are requesting Fraxel treatment, especially when compared to other treatment modalities that are associated with far more significant side effects,” notes Dr. Low.

Other key advantages of Fraxel Laser Treatment (FLT) are:

No scalpel, no stitches, no needles No general anesthesia – FLT is well tolerated with a topical anesthetic Convenience – the procedure takes about 30 minutes in the doctor’s office High safety and proven effectiveness on neck, chest and hands Virtually no risk of complications or adverse events Natural, youthful-looking results

Dr. Low Chai Ling is certified in the Advanced Fraxel Technique by Reliant-tech and operates from The Sloane Clinic in Singapore.

The Sloane Clinic has two branches. Its CitySphere branch is located at 30 Raffles Place, #03-01 Caltex House and you may contact them at 65-6533 2522. The Sloane Clinic VillageSpace branch is located at 43 Jln Merah Saga, #01-66 Chip Bee Gdns and you may contact them at 65-6471 1108.

Island Breezes Candles and More Wants to Take You to Paradise

Just launched, Islandbreezescandles. com is the hottest new e-tailer specializing in 100% handmade candles and all-natural products for the body, mind and spirit.

Staten Island, NY (PRWEB) August 1, 2006

Paradise is normally not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about candles, or even bath and body products, but owner Gene Grasso of Island Breezes Candles and More hopes to change that by keeping the client first.

"We wouldn't want anyone to use anything that we wouldn't want to use ourselves." said Grasso. "We want our clients' senses to take over when they light one of our all natural soy candles, or use one of our invigorating bath products, not have them worry that what they are using isn't good for them. Especially nowadays that a shift is being made to more healthy beauty treatments."

Knowing that the consumer is more concerned about the products they use helped Grasso and Island Breezes formulate their product.

"We wanted to make sure that our products were of the highest quality, but first and foremost they had to be made from all natural ingredients. The philosophy behind our products has always been to serve the interests of the client first, and we are always on the lookout for ingredients that will not only help them look and feel better, but offer significant health benefits as well."

The company's inital product offering will concentrate on 100% all natural hand crafted soy candles, body lotions, sprays and butters as well as other exquisite bath and body products, but don't expect them to stop there.

"We plan on launching new products every month, with some fragrances and formulas exclusive to Island Breezes. Customers deserve to have top quality, ultra-premium products made specifically with them in mind 100% of the time. All I'm finding these days at our major corporate competitors however are a lot of high priced, mass prodced, mid-quality items...we're going to change that."

Pet Charity T-Shirts Are Strictly ‘Paw-fect’ For Cat and Dog Lovers

Pop sensation and Strictly judge, Alesha Dixon, is backing the UK’s biggest vet charity, PDSA, by modelling its new cat and dog t-shirts – designed to raise vital funds for three new pet hospitals.

(PRWeb UK) December 3, 2010

Pop sensation and Strictly judge, Alesha Dixon, is backing the UK’s biggest vet charity, http://www. pdsa. org. uk PDSA, by modelling its new cat and dog t-shirts – designed to raise vital funds for three new pet hospitals.

Alesha who has three dogs, Roxy, Rosy and Daisy, and is also a former cat owner, has pledged her support to PDSA’s £6 million Pet Hospital Appeal. She was the first to wear its brand new T-shirt designs starring cult ‘70s characters Roobarb & Custard.

The cartoon duo star on vintage style ‘I Love Dogs’ and ‘I Love Cats’ t-shirts. Available for women and men in white and grey marl, the t-shirts were created by online t-shirt store moreTvicar. com which will donate £5 from each t-shirt sold to the PDSA appeal.

Alesha said: “As a pet lover, I know how important it is to care for our animals, that’s why I’m backing PDSA’s Pet Hospital Appeal. Millions of pets, including my dogs, bring us so much happiness and deserve the very best care in return, so it’s great to know that PDSA is there to help pets when they really need it. Buying these t-shirts is a great way of showing your support.”

PDSA has launched its fundraising appeal after seeing demand for its charity services soar by 50% in five years.

The ‘I Love Dogs’ and ‘I Love Cats’ t-shirts cost £15.99 each, available exclusively from online t-shirt store http://www. moreTvicar. com in white or grey marl.
Women – sizes 8 - 16 Men – sizes S – XXL

£5 from each t-shirt sold will be donated to the PDSA Pet Hospital Appeal.

Editors notes:

PDSA helps alleviate poverty by providing free treatment for the pets of owners on certain means-tested benefits. More than 400,000 UK pets will rely on PDSA’s service this year alone. Many of these suffer from life-threatening illness or injury, and are nursed back to health by the charity’s highly-skilled veterinary teams.

By 2011 the charity will have seen a 50% increase in pet patients for its service nationally over the last five years (a period which includes the worst recession since the 1930s). This equates to more than 120,000 more pet patients through PDSA’s pet hospital doors.

This unprecedented demand has led to PDSA launching its biggest ever fundraising appeal. The charity needs to build three brand new pet hospitals, in Birmingham, Plymouth and Cardiff, to replace outdated facilities in these areas. In total, £6 million is needed to build and equip the new facilities.

PDSA receives no HM Government or National Lottery funding for its UK wide veterinary services, which include 48 pet hospitals and branches. The £50 million-plus annual running costs are funded entirely through charitable giving, including gifts in wills, donations, fundraising events and proceeds from its 170 high street charity stores.

PDSA’s history in the UK dates back to 1917. During that time it has provided an estimated 100 million treatments to around 20 million different pets. Today its network of pet hospitals stretches from Aberdeen to the south coast, Humberside to Belfast. In addition to its dedicated pet hospitals, PDSA provides funded veterinary care in smaller communities, through a network of participating private practices.

Hardcore Energize Bullet™ Skyrockets to the Top 10 in the Energy Drink and Energy Shots Beverage Category

Hardcore Energize Bullet™ Skyrockets to the Top 10 in the Energy Drink and Energy Shots Beverage Category

The "energy shot" category is officially the fastest growing category in convenience stores, as recently reported in BevNet. com. A surprise contender in the energy drink and energy shot category has scored big: with its powerful effects, great taste, and eye-grabbing, distinctive packaging, the Hardcore Energize Bullet™ from iSatori (http://www. myspace. com/energizebullet) rose to the top 10 in the most recent AC Nielson Data. Just six months after hitting the convenience stores shelves in North America.

Golden, CO (PRWEB) May 20, 2009

There's a new contender on the shelf when it comes to energy shots called the Hardcore Energize Bullet™ (http://www. myspace. com/energizebullet (http://www. myspace. com/energizebullet)), and it's taking on the category by storm. In fact, AC Nielson just released their newest data, showing the 2.9-oz Hardcore Energize Bullet is now one of the top 10 brands in the energy drink and shots category in North America.

The "energy shot" category is officially the fastest growing category in convenience stores, as recently reported in BevNet (http://www. bevnet. com/news/2008/4-30-2008-energy_shots. asp (http://www. bevnet. com/news/2008/4-30-2008-energy_shots. asp)). Convenience stores and gas stations are seeing rapid growth of "energy shots," and as a result, sales of this new category are expected to climb from the current estimate of $100 million to $500-plus million in 2009; thereby making "energy shots" the fastest growing category in convenience store retail.

"When it comes to energy drinks and shots, the Energize Bullet from iSatori Technologies (http://www. myspace. com/energizebullet (http://www. myspace. com/energizebullet)) certainly stands out," comments Brandon Frickey, the brand's ambassador and manager. "Thanks to its innovative and very distinctive packaging, no-space merchandising, and traffic-stopping graphics--which tend to elicit a racy joke or two. The Energize Bullet has been well received by customers not just for its hot looks but also for its excellent taste and potent all-day-energy-boosting effects."

"We're thrilled to see iSatori has leapt into the Top 10 brands in the energy drink and shot category with the Hardcore Energize Bullet. This is a huge step for the brand and is a valid reason every beverage retailer and convenience store should stock our Energize Bullet… because it's a Top 10 brand and has a proven track record of sales through consumer demand," shares Stephen Adele, CEO and founder of iSatori Technologies (http://www. isatoritech. com (http://www. isatoritech. com)). Stephen goes on to say, "We are excited to grow our distribution as more consumers see, try, and continue to purchase the Hardcore Energize Bullet."

"The packaging alone is enough to stop people in their tracks," adds Stephen Adele, "but while there are literally thousands of energy drinks and shots available, there is only one Energize Bullet...it's truly unique. And once people discover the Hardcore Energize Bullet contains 300 mg of sustained-release caffeine so it causes no unwanted jitters, it's a no brainer to pick up the vial. That, combined with no sugars to eliminate the dreaded sugar crash has given it a lot of buzz, so to speak."

The all-new Hardcore Energize Bullet, a 2.9 oz sugar-free energy shot, available in two delicious flavors--Blue "Raspberry" Rage and Black "Cherry" Rush--is available at gyms, convenience stores, and 7-Eleven nationwide. (Look for it at the drink cooler or on the counter. If it's not available, ask the Manager to order it.) To learn more about the new Hardcore Energize Bullet, visit http://www. isatoritech. com/bullet (http://www. isatoritech. com/bullet) or call 1-866-688-7679 between the hours of 8:00 a. m. and 5:00 p. m. MST, Monday through Friday. Retailers interested in carrying the Hardcore Energize Bullet can contact Renee at iSatori at 303-215-9174, ext. 104.

Local Yonkers Man Invited to be on Dr. Oz Show for Non Surgical Weight Loss

Local Yonkers Man Invited to be on Dr. Oz Show for Non Surgical Weight Loss

Dr. Oz 100th episode will feature 100 people who have lost 100 lbs or more without surgery or drugs. Yonkers Resident Carl de Prado who lost 145 lbs on Take Shape for Life will be one of those 100

Yonkers, NY (PRWEB) February 4, 2010

The Dr. Oz show will be having their 100th episode featuring 100 people who have lost 100 lbs or more without surgery.

Two and half years ago Carl de Prado was 41yrs old and weighed 350 pounds. He suffered from high blood pressure and sleep apnea.

How did Carl get to be 350?

Carl dealt with weight issues most of his life. He was a heavy kid until he began wrestling and football in high school and throughout college. He stayed active in his mid-twenties with half-marathons and a bike trek across Ohio. But in late in his twenties Carl got severe arthritis and had to reduce his exercise. His activity levels decreased but his eating levels stayed the same.

Carl gained weight and tried every diet he found. He would lose weight only to regain that weight plus more. This cycle continued in his thirties and his weight bloomed from 225 to 325 lbs.

As Carl turned 40 he got married and suddenly had a new reason to lose weight - he wanted to start a family. Carl tried dieting again and gained another 25 lbs. In desperation he considered bariatric surgery until he learned the risks and that most people regain their weight.

Then one of Carl's clients, a chiropractor, talked about how he had just lost 50lbs in 3 months without surgery or drugs on a program called Take Shape for Life. At 350 lbs Carl was desperate and willing to try although afraid he would get burned again. He joined Take Shape for Life and began to understand why he struggled with his weight. He learned how to gain control by regulating his blood sugar with small, lean meals throughout the day and how to reincorporate exercise into his life in a sensible way. Most important, he learned the healthy habits that would enable him to keep the weight off once he had lost it.

Within 11 months Carl lost 145 lbs. and has kept it off for over a year and half.
Carl no longer needs his CPAP machine for sleep apnea His wife lost 60 lbs, from size 18/20 to 10 His brother who was 315lbs and a 3rd degree black belt also lost 75 lbs About 80 lbs into Carl's journey, his father went in for a double bypass surgery and two valve replacements at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. The surgery was successful but Carl noticed that many other families were going through the same thing. Carl knew that if he didn’t keep on the path to health he too would be looking at this type of medical intervention one day, or worse. Carl decided to pay it forward in his life and become a Certified Health Coach, so that he could help others in the same way he was helped.

Carl was blessed with a baby girl, Mackenzie Grace, on October 13, 2009 and he looks forward to giving her away on her wedding day.

To find out more about how Carl lost the weight or to join him in his mission to get America healthy feel free to contact him at 917-715-7100, info(at)totalbeslim(dot)com or go to http://www. TotalBeslim. com (http://www. TotalBeslim. com) to learn more.
