Veterinary Practice Marketing Program Proves a Picture is Worth an Appointment

(PRWEB) August 12, 2004

TR Cutler, president of the proprietary TR Cutler, Inc. Veterinary Practice Marketing program, just two years old, announced that two hundred veterinary practices are now using the variable data program which provides specific reminders to pet owners with 4 color photographs of their breed of dog or cat every month.

Cutler noted, “We are thrilled that so many veterinary practices that started with the three month trial have now extended to a year long program.” The average practice sees 212% revenue growth by using the program. We also have found that some breed owners spend considerably more than others and will advise veterinarians to go to those current clients to expand revenues.”

Cutler who edited a pet magazine and produced a pet television show before developing this key marketing outreach program in 2002, suggested that pet owners simply have to be informed what healthcare options are available for their pets to live long and healthy lives.

Half of U. S. Physicians Do Not Make Dietary Recommendations to Their Patients, According to New Research Study

Half of U. S. Physicians Do Not Make Dietary Recommendations to Their Patients, According to New Research Study

Half of all U. S. physicians have not recommended a popular or commercial dietary program to their patients in the past 5 years, according to a new study published in advance online in the International Journal of Obesity, a Nature journal, as of November 9.

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) November 14, 2004

According to background information in the article, previous peer-reviewed study shows that successful dieters maintaining a 30 pound or greater weight loss usually follow their own individualized, primarily lower fat diet, not popular, low carb or commercial diets.

John La Puma, M. D., from the Santa Barbara Institute for Medical Nutrition and Healthy Weight and colleagues studied data from 394 practicing physicians. About half (196 or 49%) had not recommended any diet to their patients in the past 5 years. Almost half of the physicians—44 percent (174)-- were overweight or obese. More of the overweight physicians (94, 54 percent) recommended a popular diet than did healthy weight physicians (106, 48 percent). Physicians who did recommend diets most often recommended Weight Watchers (37 percent, 148 recommendations), followed by Jenny Craig (13 percent, 52 recommendations), and Atkins (12 percent, 47 recommendations).

The study also found that 72 percent (126/174) of overweight physicians had not followed a diet themselves in 5 years. Of those who had, however, 9 percent had followed low carb and 9 percent had followed low fat diets.

Dr. La Puma commented, "It's not enough for a few doctors to specialize in nutrition. A few words of encouragement about weight loss from any physician can be incredibly helpful to his or her patients."

The authors write, “Physicians seldom prescribe diets, though when they do, there is discordance between their personal use of and patient recommendation for popular diets. Physicians can and should begin to prescribe particular eating plans for their patients.”

Haas TCM To Provide Total Chemical Management Services To United Technologies Corporation Facilities

(PRWEB) March 5, 2003

HAAS TCM TO PROVIDE TOTAL CHEMICAL MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION FACILITIES

WEST CHESTER, PA, February 25, 2003—Haas TCM has signed a five-year contract with the United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) to provide chemical life-cycle management services to its facilities worldwide, starting in the United States. Under the terms of the agreement, Haas TCM will be responsible for managing the sourcing, procurement, and logistics of all chemicals used at UTC facilities, using its proprietary, chemicals-specific e-commerce platform, tcmISTM. In addition, Haas TCM will provide environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) compliance management assistance and will be responsible for the identification and implementation of process efficiency improvement initiatives.

This program represents a significant component of “UT 500”, UTC’s sweeping initiative to improve operating efficiencies and reduce costs across its enterprise. Previously, UTC’s six companies – Otis Elevator, Carrier, UTC Fuel Cells, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky Aircraft and Hamilton Sundstrand – performed these chemical-related activities individually.

“We realized that the real costs associated with chemicals used in our manufacturing processes go far beyond what we pay to purchase them,” said Brian Ross, UTC’s Commodity Manager for Chemicals and Environmental, Health and Safety. “We will now eliminate costs relating to inventory, procurement, inspection, delivery, hazardous waste and environmental reporting. Some of these costs are identifiable, but others are still hidden.”

Haas’ will use its process know how combined with advanced information technology and logistics resources acquired through its recent merger with Radian TCM to leverage the scale and diversity of UTC’s operations. “UTC makes an ideal customer for us,” says Thad Fortin, CEO of Haas TCM. “Our track record is most impressive where we’ve standardized best practices across large, multi-facility corporations.”

Headquartered in West Chester, PA, with over 250 employees, annual revenues of $100 million and operations on three continents, Haas TCM currently provides chemical lifecycle management services to customers in the automotive, aerospace, electronics, semiconductors, defense, metalworking, transportation and heavy manufacturing industries.

Purely Health + Launched: Motivate the Workforce through Star Jumps and Bananas

Sickness absence costs employers at least £11billion each year. Newly launched Purely Health+ (part of nationwide organisation, Purely Nutrition www. purelynutrition. com) tackles the problem head on by helping organisations from small bakeries to large multinationals adopt a healthy policy to aid their workforce with the aim of reducing absenteeism.

UK (PRWEB) January 30, 2006

Sickness absence costs employers at least £11billion each year. Newly launched Purely Health+ (part of nationwide organisation, Purely Nutrition www. purelynutrition. com) tackles the problem head on by helping organisations from small bakeries to large multinationals adopt a healthy policy to aid their workforce with the aim of reducing absenteeism.

Nutritional Director, Dr Jennie Cockroft: “Having spent 9 years working in the area of food choice behaviour, I have put my knowledge and experience into developing healthy eating and physical activity programmes for every kind of workplace, to give key consistent messages coupled with the skills to make informed choices about food and physical activity. Our team of nutritionists have developed a variety of workshops for the purely health + programme, we know they can help to educate people about healthy diets and lifestyle. To quote from the recently published House of Commons Health Committee report on obesity, ‘Obesity has grown by 400% in the last 25 years’. A principle area in the fight against obesity is ensuring that people are well educated as to what a healthy diet and lifestyle is.”

Purely Health + programmes focus on the development of core skills required to manage a healthy lifestyle in a modern society that both tempts and encourages bad dietary habits, inactivity and poor health. As a society we are bombarded with fad diets and misguided messages, it is imperative that employees look at addressing healthy lifestyles in order to combat severe long term health problems such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity. Stress-related conditions, coupled with musculoskeletal disorders are now the most common reported cause of work-related sickness absence. Stress, fatigue and low productivity all have one thing in common … they can all be improved through healthy food choices and physical activity.

The Purely Health + programmes are run by specialist consultants, drawn from Purely Nutritions’ nationwide network of nutritionists and dieticians. The consultant is positioned within the clients workplace and provides a comprehensive audit of the workplace and workforce policies and practices with regards to healthy eating and physical activity. The consultant listens to the clients needs and can design a bespoke programme, encompassing tailor-made nutritional guidance and support, to help staff experience good health, energy and vitality. The full audit report can be used as part of the company strategy and delivered to shareholders as part of the overall CSR plan.

Jennie Cockroft: “We recognise the vital importance for members of staff, at all levels, to be in the best health they can be. It makes good business sense to invest in your employees and offer your staff a chance to look, feel and think better, ultimately creating a healthier and more engaged workforce”.

One suggestion the consultant may recommend is Bodyblitz (www. bodyblitzuk. com) a complete online solution for all staff, the site provides healthy eating and physical activity information, written by qualified health professionals it includes a weight management programme, meal planning, personal training programmes and much more.

Jane Burgess, Harrogate Spa Water: “We would highly recommend the Purely Health+ online solution as it is easy to incorporate into the daily routine and maintain a healthy workforce. The Bodyblitz site offers a wealth of information and gives great advice on lifestyle and diet to time poor staff. The recipes and interactive area were really helpful. This is a great solution to be used to aid CSR. Our staff have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

As well as BodyBlitz, there are a variety of optional programmes which can be provided as ‘one off’ healthy message workshops or, can be a week long or monthly solution which focuses on various areas of gaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Threat of Avian Flu Pandemic Makes VOIP Telephony a Wise Investment for Businesses

Threat of Avian Flu Pandemic Makes VOIP Telephony a Wise Investment for Businesses

VOIP telephony, a technology that allows employees to work from home, could be the most important measure a business takes today in preparing for the possibility of an avian flu pandemic. Without this infrastructure in place, death and illness and fear could easily cripple a business' workforce. Manufacturers such as Avaya offer all-in-one IP Office communication systems that enable a business to work virtually. (PRWEB) May 25, 2006

VOIP telephony (http://www. conference-bridge. net/catalog/product/700359946.aspx) , a technology that allows employees to work from home, could be the most important measure a business takes today in preparing for the possibility of an avian flu pandemic. Without this infrastructure in place, death and illness and fear could easily cripple a business' workforce.

According to a Washington Post article from writer David Brown (http://www. washingtonpost. com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/01/AR2006050101608.html) , more than half of U. S. companies think there will be a global flu epidemic in the next two years. Two-thirds think it will seriously disrupt their operations and two-thirds say they aren't prepared.

Is your company prepared? Has anyone been appointed to plan for a pandemic?

Tommy G. Thompson, who heads the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions (http://301url. com/2pl) in Washington, estimates that only one in five U. S. companies "are in good position in terms of being able to react -- and even those are going to have to restructure and improve their plans."

Models have suggested that at least a third of the population is likely to become ill in each wave, with peak absenteeism somewhat higher, about 40 percent of the workforce. Depending on the strain's virulence, 900,000 to 10 million people might be hospitalized, and 200,000 to 2 million might die.

Absenteeism can also be attributed to working moms who need to stay to take care of sick family members.

Given this scenario, the consultants say, companies should expect that an avian flu pandemic will kill some employees, temporarily cripple workforces, and sow confusion and fear, as well as force people to make harrowing decisions between allegiances to work or family. It would make communication difficult, threaten supply chains, and probably interrupt production of goods and delivery of services.

Because of this businesses are encouraged to become a co-leader with government in preparing for an avian flu epidemic, including the implementation of VOIP telephony. Fear is worse than disease, making communication vital. Password-protected Web sites are a good way to communicate with employees. Companies are better than government or medical institutions at rotating fresh people onto crisis-management teams. Fear of lost wages is the single biggest concern when workers are asked to home-quarantine, so companies should have clear policies in advance.

The US Government Department of Health and Human Services (http://www. dhhs. gov/) suggestions include enhancing communications and information technology infrastructures as needed to support employee telecommuting and remote customer access.

Who can work at home? Who needs IT upgrades in advance to make that possible? Who needs to come in? These are just a few questions needed to be addressed when planning for a pandemic.

VOIP telephony (http://www. conference-bridge. net/catalog/product/700359946.aspx) is the technology that can help employees work from home. With more and more households having high speed Internet access in place already, implementing VOIP is inexpensive and easy. Manufacturers such as Avaya offer all-in-one IP Office communication systems that can enable your business to work virtually.

Investing in VOIP telephony can help a business survive an avian flu pandemic.
