With 200,000 members, Vytra is the largest Long Island-based health plan and the regionÂ’s 11th largest privately held corporation.

The Medal of Honor, which McAteer accepted at the LIA’s Annual Gala, held May 14 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, is conferred on an individual or company committed to making Long Island a better place to live, work, and do business. “The Medal of Honor is a fitting tribute to Vytra’s 450 employees, who have embraced the mission of promoting the health of the individuals, communities and workplaces we serve,” said McAteer, who was joined by over 50 Vytra employees at the gala.

Also attending was Daniel T. McGowan, President of HIP Health Plan, which formed a strategic alliance with Vytra in 2001. Said McGowan, who served as Executive Vice Chairman of the gala committee: “HIP takes pride in working with VytraÂ’s team of professionals who dedicate their time and talents in the interest of the well-being of Long Islanders.”

Under McAteer’s leadership, Vytra has strengthened its commitment to improving the health of Long Islanders by supporting more than 100 organizations and events each year—including sports, fitness, wellness, and the arts—through employee volunteerism and participation, membership affiliations and donations. In addition, Vytra offers the general public a variety of free health promotion programs year-round, providing forums for education and support on a wide range of topics, including women’s health, obesity and nutrition.

The May 14 gala, attended by more than 800 people, also honored Joseph L. Mancino, Chairman and CEO of Roslyn Savings Bank, a Division of New York Community Bank, with the Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award for Community Service.; and John V. N. Klein, Esq., Chairman of Meyer Suozzi English & Klein, P. C., with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
