Florida Department of Health Partners with WAHI Media, Launching TeenTruth. org an Interactive, Web-Based Initiative

Statewide initiative encourages positive lifestyle choices for teens

TALLAHASSEE, FL (Vocus) July 27, 2010

The Florida Department of Health (FLDOH) in partnership with WAHI Media has created TeenTruth. org (http://www. teentruth. org/), an interactive, web-based initiative promoting positive lifestyle choices among Florida youth. The website is designed to educate teens, parents, and citizens about a wide range of issues that teens deal with on a daily basis. DOH’s Office of Positive Youth Development has been able to use WAHI’s highly effective technology to reach and hold the attention of teens, engaging them in conversation and presenting them with valuable facts.

“The goal of the Teen Truth initiative is to provide teens with information to help them make the right choices when facing critical decisions,” said Ana M. Viamonte Ros, M. D., M. P.H., State Surgeon General. “The Department of Health is committed to providing our teens with this interactive resource to help them learn more about difficult issues they may face as well as the benefits of making smart and healthy choices.”

The WAHI technology uses interactive drama to educate teens, providing a new experience that communicates positive youth development messages more effectively than any other medium. TeenTruth. org covers a variety of different topics from sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy to drug addiction, and unsafe driving all while stimulating the audience to be involved in the material. The interactive website allows viewers to engage in a conversation and with each video segment the viewer is able to answer questions and navigate their own path through the WAHI, ensuring each viewer receives a personalized experience.

“The TeenTruth. org WAHI uses real actors to target young people, parents, and citizens on a number of topics, including drug prevention, relationships, and healthy relationships betweens parents and kids” said Glenn Hallam, founder of WAHI Media. “The WAHI allows participants to respond to different situations and gain an understanding of the best ways to handle those situations in the future, in a way that traditional communication methods simply cannot achieve.”
