Richmond, VA (PRWEB) September 13, 2006
NorthStar Community, a Christ-centered recovery ministry in Richmond, Virginia is helping local recovery groups celebrate outreach and support programs as part of Recovery Month. This year’s theme - “Join the Voices for Recovery: Build a Stronger, Healthier Community” mirrors the NorthStar emphasis on the strength of community relationships and the healing of families in the recovery process. These events are hosted by the Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance (SAARA) and the McShin Foundation.
NorthStar Community will participate in the Recovery Month Health Fair to promote awareness of addiction, treatment and recovery. The event will be held on September 12th from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at The Marquee, 3015 Cutshaw Ave., Richmond, and will feature nationally known comedian Mark Loundholm.
On Saturday, September 16th NorthStar will also participate in RecoveryFest, a musical celebration featuring The Wendy Place Project, King Solomon’s Marbles, Johnny and the Low-Downs and Back in the Day. The American Civil War Center in Historic Tredegar will be the site for this festive evening of music, art and information about recovery and treatment. Music begins at 5:00 p. m.
Both events are open to the public.
About NorthStar Community: NorthStar Community is for anyone who wants to explore new ways of dealing with the pain of living in a complicated world. It is for people seeking guidance in mending broken relationships, broken families, broken promises, and broken dreams. As part of our NorthStar Community ministry, Christ-centered support groups are available to help individuals to succeed at recovery from addictions, codependency, and other life struggles. NorthStar Community broadcasts weekly at 11:30AM on CBS-TV 6, Richmond to a regional audience. The Sunday gathering is held at Bon Air Elementary School, 8701 Polk Street, Richmond at 10:30AM. Numerous support groups and outreach efforts are conducted during the week.
About Recovery Month: Throughout September, events nationwide encourage communities, civic leaders, labor organizations, treatment and prevention organizations, community and faith-based organizations, and the recovery community to address their community’s need for treatment, overcome the barriers that prevent people from seeking help, and ensure access to local treatment facilities. In 2004, 3.8 million people aged 12 or older received some kind of treatment for substance use disorder. Participating in recovery programs for substance use disorders is as effective as receiving treatment for other chronic conditions – yet 21.15 million people needed but did not receive treatment in 2004.
