Fit Bottomed Girls Names Ruby Gettinger as Fit Bottomed Girl of the Year

Fun fitness website for women www. FitBottomedGirls. com celebrates two years with a week full of giveaways and special content, including the Fitties, the Noshies and the official unveiling of Fit Bottomed Girl of the Year.

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) May 20, 2010

As part of its upcoming two-year birthday celebration week, www. FitBottomedGirls. com, has named The Style Network's Ruby Gettinger as its Fit Bottomed Girl of the Year, an award created to honor an inspiring woman who has encouraged many to be their best and fittest.

Gettinger's reality TV series, Ruby, chronicles her journey to lose weight and get healthy, inspiring millions along the way. Gettinger reports that she has lost more than 400 pounds from her all-time high, an amazing feat. Her sparkling personality, Southern charm, and determination embody what it means to be a Fit Bottomed Girl.

“When we featured an interview with Ruby on our site in August (http://fitbottomedgirls. com/2009/08/fitstars-ruby-gettinger-a-giveaway/ (http://fitbottomedgirls. com/2009/08/fitstars-ruby-gettinger-a-giveaway/)), we got such an overwhelming response from readers," says Erin Whitehead, co-founder of Fit Bottomed Girls. "When it came time to pick our Fit Bottomed Girl of 2010, we immediately thought of Ruby's inspiring attitude in the face of her extraordinary weight-loss challenge."

Gettinger was honored to be chosen for the award, saying it made her "hacky wacky."

"I accept it for everyone that is on this journey with me," she says. "For those struggling to get fit and healthy and, most importantly, searching for their truth!"

Last year, the fun fitness website named inspiring mom and Olympic swimming superstar Dara Torres as its Fit Bottomed Girl of the Year (http://fitbottomedgirls. com/2009/05/and-the-fbg-of-2009-is/ (http://fitbottomedgirls. com/2009/05/and-the-fbg-of-2009-is/)). This year, the editors wanted a role model that all readers could relate to.

"We've always said that fit bottoms come in all shapes and sizes, and Ruby truly proves that philosophy," says Jenn Walters, co-founder of the site. "It's not about a number on the scale, but facing the issues and challenges of weight-loss head on to get healthier--and having fun while you're at it!”

The Fit Bottomed Girls' two-year birthday celebration week begins on May 17, with the Fit Bottomed Girl of the Year award announcement on May 20. Included with the announcement will be a question-and-answer session with Gettinger to discuss her progress and share her encouraging words. The site will also feature the inspiring stories of Fit Bottomed Girls' readers throughout the week to show that anyone can overcome obstacles and get fit.

And because no birthday celebration is complete without presents, readers will have opportunities to win prizes throughout the week, including packages from Nike, TRX, Lucy, and Vega, as well as fitness DVDs and other equipment and prizes. The winners of the annual Fitties awards, which name the most notable fitness products of the year, will also be announced. A new "Noshies" award will recognize notable healthy food products for the year.
