Public Health Reporting Eased with Orion Health Technology
Orion Health announces a new platform to implement electronic health reporting for public health authorities, the Rhapsody™ Public Health Integrator platform, which enables public health authorities to provide a report processing and integration software component to hospitals, laboratories, and clinics in their region.
2009 CSTE Annual Conference, Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) June 8, 2009
Orion Health Inc. (http://www. orionhealth. com/), is pleased to announce a new platform to implement electronic health reporting for public health authorities. The Rhapsody™ Public Health Integrator platform was announced today at the 2009 Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists Conference (http://www. cste. org/dnn/) (CSTE) (http://www. cste. org/dnn/ (http://www. cste. org/dnn/)); it enables public health authorities to provide a report processing and integration software component to hospitals, laboratories, and clinics in their region.
Automating the collection and reporting of public health information helps healthcare workers along the continuum; from physician to health agency. It allows them to better manage regulated reporting requirements which consume critical resources. The accuracy and timeliness of data reporting is greatly increased, allowing for faster detection and responses to potential health crises, like a flu pandemic.
As part of the effort to simplify the implementation and reporting process for health providers, Orion Health is partnering with OntoReason (http://www. ontoreason. com/) (http://www. ontoreason. com/ (http://www. ontoreason. com/)), a public health informatics software and services group, providing "off the shelf" business rules and reasoning, further automating the conveyance of health information for the mandated 85 reportable conditions required by law.
The Mississippi State Department of Health is in the process of implementing 70 Rhapsody Public Health Integrator platforms in hospitals and healthcare providers across the state.
Joe Surkin, Director NEDSS/PHIN at Mississippi DOH says "We expect to see a significant increase in the timeliness and accuracy of data collected. By automating this reporting process, we will be able to eliminate the heavy burden of manual reporting by health care providers and better respond to the health needs of our state's residents."
Orion Health President of North America and EMEA Operations Paul Viskovich, sees this as a step toward the greater use of new and emerging electronic, standards-based messaging of public health reports, replacing traditional paper-based reporting.
"Despite millions spent, public health reporting still often means the manual extraction of data. Electronic reporting promises to revolutionize public health with complete and accurate reporting in near real time. Our data indicates that when you manually extract health information organizations see about a five-fold increase in cases reported," Viskovich concludes.
Rhapsody's Public Health Integrator provides facilities with secure connections using Public Health information Network (PHIN) approved tools and offers the ability to include connection to the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) and other future public health services as these are developed and certified. The Public Health Integrator can be easily deployed on a blade server, requiring minimal technical knowledge or ongoing maintenance. Additional reporting types can be added with minimal effort.
Orion Health solutions use standards-based technology to integrate data within a facility and external partners without incurring costly rip and replace approaches. Currently the company helps facilities and healthcare communities that connect 35 million patients with tens of thousands of active users.
CSTE is a professional association of over 1050 public health epidemiologists working in states, local health agencies, and territories.
