Comprehensive Web Site on Sudan Crisis Launched by American Progress Action Fund
New web site details crisis in Sudan with updated statistics, photos, video and reports from the ground in Darfur, Sudan.

The American Progress Action Fund launched a Web site today detailing the crisis in Sudan. The site includes updated statistics, first hand reports from the ground in Darfur, background information on Sudan, and recent photographs and video. An interactive flash map allows users to scroll across various regions to learn about the people, conflicts, and issues in the area.
According to Gayle Smith, Senior Fellow at The Center for American Progress, the site was launched in order to provide comprehensive resources for reporters who cover the moral crisis in Sudan and for the general public who aim to learn more about the region’s ethnic cleansing. Smith is the author of the series “Sudan: Eyewitness to Crisis,” available on the site. Her eyewitness reports provide background on the roots of the crisis, lengthy reports on the situation in Khartoum and Darfur, and an analysis of “talking points” from her meetings with government officials.
The site also provides detailed statistical data on the crisis. “Sudan By The Numbers” includes facts from various sources such as The World Health organization about the number of people at risk, conditions in the refugee camps, and the cost of meeting needs in Darfur. Stark comparisons are offered as context for many of the statistics provided. For example, the amount of money the U. S. government has provided to Darfur this year is compared with the amount spent each day in Iraq.
