InsureMe Offers Tip for Reaching Sales Potential

InsureMe Offers Tip for Reaching Sales Potential

Insurance shopping service affirms sleep should be part of your sales strategy

DENVER (PRWEB) August 15, 2006

Some sales professionals view sleep as a barrier to success. Some think that coffee, Coke, Red Bull and other caffeinated beverages rendered snoozing obsolete years ago. Others would like to get more rest but would hate to leave their cell phones, handheld organizers and laptops unattended for the necessary eight hours.

InsureMe, the leading online lead referral business, says sleep is not only essential to physical health, but to sales health as well.

According to the National Institutes of Health, too little sleep yields “impaired memory and physical performance and reduced ability to carry out math calculations. If sleep deprivation continues, hallucinations and mood swings may develop.” Other research suggests that those who suffer from sleeplessness see their vocabularies shrink.

Thus, sleep-deprived sales professionals are more likely to deliver uninspired, monosyllabic sales pitches, become irritated with co-workers and customers, and make embarrassing professional errors.

Scientists believe that sleep deprivation directly affects our cerebral cortex, the part of the brain that is crucial to innovation; decision-making ability; and mental focus and agility. In short, the things that are essential to sales success.

It’s not that Americans don’t know that sleep is important: 80 percent of respondents to a 2005 National Sleep Foundation (NSF) poll said sleep is a crucial element to a healthy life—up there with food and water.

Of course, knowing what’s healthy isn’t the same as changing ingrained routines. According to the NSF, 70 percent of Americans are not getting eight hours of sleep.

A sizable fraction of that 70 percent would like to get more sleep but are unable to. For those who are having difficulty sleeping, InsureMe offers the following tips:

Take the time to rest - Set a regular sleeping schedule that allows for eight hours of sound sleep. Rhythm is very important, so try to go to bed at or around the same time each night.

Don’t bring the office into the bedroom - The bedroom should be reserved for sleeping—not for late night phone calls, e-mails and to-do lists. Even the presence of work-related material in the room can hinder sleep.

See a doctor if you think you have sleep disorder - Many Americans suffer from sleep disorders, from sleep apnea to narcolepsy. Even seemingly innocuous snoring can be a symptom of a serious problem.

In addition to these tips, InsureMe provides a variety of free resources which are available online. The InsureMe Agent Resource Center contains multiple articles on numerous insurance types, and the InsureMe Agent Blog is updated daily with sales tips and industry news. The Agent Blog is part of the greater InsureMe blog network (www. insuremeblog. com).
