"Painted Ladies" Event Explores Impact of Baltimore Breast Enhancement
A Baltimore plastic surgery practice is promoting a new book featuring photos and stories of local women describing the impact of cosmetic breast procedures including breast augmentation and reconstruction. Baltimore women are presented photographs and share their life stories in a new book illustrating the dramatic personal impact of breast augmentation and breast reconstruction on their lives. The book, "Painted Ladies: Celebrate Life," describes an event hosted at The Center for Cosmetic Surgery & MediSpa to allow breast augmentation and reconstruction patients from Baltimore, Maryland to publicly share the effects of their cosmetic surgery on their bodies and self-image (more information at www. baltimorepaintedladies. com).
"The 'Painted Ladies' publication and DVD are part of a larger effort to help these seven women share the real scope of their experience with breast enhancement," says Baltimore cosmetic enhancement specialist, Lauri Kane. "We are promoting this book, and holding a reunion on October 27, because we believe it's important for women to help each other address very real issues relating to body image." The initial Painted Ladies event which the book illustrates, and which the reunion will celebrate, began as a routine open house and breast surgery lecture by Lauri Kane and her husband Dr. Dean Kane, who is a board-certified Baltimore plastic surgeon and medical director of The Center for Cosmetic Surgery & MediSpa.
"The basic premise of the event was to make these women feel like 'queens for a day,'" says Lauri Kane. "Every woman can relate to problems with body image that hinder their free expression of real beauty within and self-worth. Some of these women have been through some very difficult experiences, like breast cancer, massive weight loss and post-pregnancy breast deformities. We offered these women the opportunity to help others by publically communicating the new body shape and self image they've achieved."
The women, who represent a variety of ages, ethnicities, and body types, received body paint on their bare torsos to mimic the appearance of contemporary dress clothing without hiding the contours of their augmented breasts. After receiving jewelry and professional cosmetic makeovers and hair styling, the women held a "red carpet" show including a professional photo shoot. Afterward, they sat before a camera to describe their personal history and experience with breast enlargement and reconstructive surgery.
"Breast augmentation for Baltimore, Maryland women is a very personal process, with the potential for dramatic impact," explains Dr. Dean Kane. "These women had the self-confidence to clothe themselves in paint and publicly share their personal struggles with hundreds of people at the event and on a DVD.
