DJJ Productions presents the 3rd Annual Celebrity Basketball Game Charity Fundraiser. This yearÂs theme is ÂBridging the Gap Between Education, Sports, and Entertainment and is scheduled to be held at Essex County College on Saturday, September 25, 2005 at 2:00pm.
Hosted by Jay Cooper, of B. E.T.Âs groundbreaking series Teen Summit and sponsored by Newark Public School System, the office of Mayor Sharpe James, Back To School Community Enforcers ÂTake It By Force Save The ChildrenÂs Initiative, Writing Tech Labs, and PASS THE ROC, the event is sure to be long remembered by the 2500 invited children and parents from the Essex County area
Shooting star celebrity sightings will include members of the coveted sports, music, and political communities. With confirmations increasing by the day, the invitees include Rev. Al Sharpton, Mayor Sharpe James, Jason Kidd and Jalen Rose, Kenny Anderson, Alonzo Morning, Treach of Naughty By Nature, B. E.T.Âs Basement host Tigger, Ron Artez, WNBA superstars Teresa Witherspoon and Sheryl Swoops, Flava Unit EntertainmentÂs ÂStorm P of the summer big screen hit comedy ÂThe Cookout featuring Queen Latifah, singing sensation and entertainment superstar Lil Mo, Brian McKnight, Motown/Universal recording artists Imajin, Truewarier/Lightyear/WEA artists Allure, young actress Alliyah Hill of Brown Sugar and BroadwayÂs Lion King, PASS THE ROC Legends all-star team featuring White Chocolate of MTVÂs famed series Who Got Game.
The event begins at 9:00am with a basketball clinic for the children where they will get professional instructions from sports agent Linda Hicks of LRN Sports, Inc, White Chocolate, WNBA All-stars, the NJIT Varsity Basketball team, and Big East All-Star, retired pro Jerry Walker, CEO of Team Walker, a community organization based in Jersey City, NJ. The clinic will be followed by a brief press conference with a distinguished panel including, among others, Carl Banks of the Superbowl Champions NY Giants and GIII Apparel. Newark mayor Sharpe James will present a proclamation at halftime and Jason Cooper, cousin of NBAÂs Alonzo Mourning will be given a tribute for his humanitarian effort of being a kidney donor. Mourning received his new kidney from Jason whom he had not seen since they were kids. We will address the theme ÂBridging the Gap Between Education, Sports, and Entertainment, At noon, DJJ Productions will host a celebrity/press brunch to be followed by the basketball game event. Also at noon there will be a financial literacy workshop sponsored by Sovereign Bank where 100 children will receive 100 bank accounts. Sovereign Bank will also sponsor a number of raffles throughout the day.
When speaking of the event which will host 2500 area residents, offering them the opportunity to meet with stars and learn through mobile units in the areas of finance, health, voting, and literacy, David Jefferson, Jr. producer of the event states that ÂWe provide an environment that is surrounded by intellectual elevation and opportunity. We are hands on with the very people that we see as untouchable; the celebrity, and give recognition and support to those who are often overlooked; the administrator, teacher, single parent, and community leaderÂ.
With performances by Allure and Imajin, a basketball game with a superstar roster and education abound, the residents of Essex County will be certain to remember this event for years to come.
