Young Dezzie Dough Company is Raising Dough in Louisiana

Dezzie Dough squeezable Sweet Potato Dough raising in Louisiana. New young company is helping to lead supermarket shoppers into a healthy quick alternative to snacks and bread products. The Dezzie Dough recipe comes from rural Louisiana in the early 1900's bridging the gap between several generations, to be used by the family to start a company. The company is "making a difference" in Louisiana one sweet potato at a time.

Monroe, LA (PRWEB) September 29, 2010

On a rural North Louisiana farm in the early 1900’s, Grandma Dezzie Raley fed her family unique, healthy sweet potato biscuits and muffins. Like all good mothers, Grandma Dezzie was resourceful. She used sweet potatoes to make a tasty treat, ensuring her kids ate their vegetables. The company’s “Dezzie Rolls” and “Dezzie Dough” are named for my great-grandmother, Dezzie Raley, who made sweet potato bread products in Epps during the Great Depression. The idea may go back even further, he said, as his ancestors lived and farmed in the area since the Civil War era., explained grandson Josh Raley co founder of Dezzie Dough and Macon Ridge Foods. www. dezziedough. com (http://www. dezziedough. com)

Ben Erwin and Josh Raley are the brain trust of Dezzie Dough, a brand new business that has taken the supermarkets in the south by storm. They have chosen Bastrop Louisiana’s Industrial Park as the site of their headquarters. They are reversing the brain drain out of Louisiana by coming back to the state. Bastrop, Louisiana recently lost part of their main economy, a paper mill. Bringing new business to the economy is critical. Northeast Louisiana is working now on V-Vehicle to come and recently opened a new Sweet Potato processing plant that we hope can tool up to process our product. Now that plant is focusing on sweet potato fries. Ben Erwin said, “They were so welcoming in this community. We gave our first shipment of 1,000 pounds back to the community, we gave to the Morehouse Human Society, Bastrop Chamber, Strauss Theatre in Monroe, Ronald McDonald House, Rays of Sonshine, and the Junior League of Monroe, even before the Make a Difference Day happens. We wanted to make a difference here for our community first.”

Erwin said he grew up in Collinston and majored in electrical engineering at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La. Raley said he is originally from Crowville, La, and also attended Tech, where he majored in entrepreneurship and management and also earned his master’s degree.

Erwin said he started the Louisiana Tech ‘Top Dawg’ Business Plan Competition, and Raley entered his plan for what would later grow into Macon Ridge Foods.

“We want to be the company that makes sweet potatoes convenient to use and leverage the health benefits,” said Raley.

Nationally known Pit master Rhoda Brown of the Discovery channel circuit is using the sweet potato dough with his pork for some of his southern style catering jobs. Brown said,“ What’s not to like with pork and the Louisiana product. Of course it is easier to cook than the rattlesnake I cooked on BBQ Pit masters.”

Ah, the ultimate comfort food. Peanut butter, jam, and Dezzie Dough bread. Deeeelicious. Why not on a sweet potato bun? Dezzie Dough can be used in a varety of ways and so easy. Sweet rolls, biscuits, muffins, cakes, rolls and even for mixing with brownies. Dezzie Dough has a blog called the Dezzie Dish which has weekly recipes. Since Dezzie Dough is in a green friendly container, it has a small footprint, it has been admired by moms and also the earth environment conscience consumers. http://blog. dezziedough. com (http://blog. dezziedough. com)

Dezzie Dough is now packaged, processed and sold, all with Louisiana sweet potatoes, all with Louisiana People and Louisiana Companies. Raley said, “We are now all over the state of Louisiana with the product.” www. dezziedough. com
