Plano, TX (PRWEB) June 10, 2003

Over 65 percent of Americans are overweight, yet the diet industry is a $50 billion industry. Clearly something is not working. Why are we so fixated on our bodies but not getting results? Wendy Darling, founder of Thumbprints International, answers this question with her unique program for mothers and daughters at Seventeen Studio and Spa June 12 and June 19 from 7:00 p. m. - 9:00 p. m. Body Talk focuses on the importance of having a strong sense of self and developing beauty from within.

The vulnerable pre-teen and teen years are a critical time for young women as they develop self-confidence and a sense of self-worth. SocietyÂ’s fixation on achieving the ideal body type is affecting teenÂ’s perceptions of what is normal and healthy for their own body types. It is also a time where parents feel vulnerable choosing the best way to support their daughters.

“Our program bridges the gap between families by changing the focus and direction of how women relate to their bodies and their lives. Most attention to health and weight loss focuses on the individual and rarely do we consider the impact it has on the rest of the family. This evening is a way to strengthen family relationships, starting with mothers and daughters, at a time that has stereotypically been labeled as more challenging. This opens the door to a healthier relationship between mothers and daughters and has a positive impact on the whole family,” said Wendy Darling, founder of Thumbprints International.
