Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 31, 2005

The first issue of “The CBSA FOCUS,” the Colorado BioScience Association’s quarterly newsletter has rolled off the presses. The announcement is made by Denise Brown, CBSA executive director, who says the new quarterly publication joins the association’s annual magazine (pdf copy attached to this news release), “Bioscience Colorado,” to help further share the many success stories and highlights of Colorado’s medical device and biotechnology industries.

Featured articles in the debut FOCUS issue cover the Colorado Technology Survey; McKinley Medical companyÂ’s new pain management product targeting the plastic surgery industry; and Dr. Michael Bristow, noted professor, physician and founder of both the Myogen and ARCA Discovery biotech companies. Other topics covered include upcoming CBSA events, executive report, regulatory update on new FDA rules, and news briefs. HereÂ’s a sampling of the feature articles and links to the articles and PDF of the newsletter:

“Bioscience Execs Upbeat: Survey Shows Increase In New Product Development” -- A recent survey focused on technology in Colorado shows bioscience companies plan to invest more money and human capital in research and development during the first six months of 2005. You can read the FOCUS article about the survey at http://www. pr. com/upload/presskit_1811_1121365070.pdf (http://www. pr. com/upload/presskit_1811_1121365070.pdf).

“McKinley Medical Carves Out a New Niche in Pain Management” -- Aesthetic surgery is booming in America, thanks to extensive media coverage that gives the public an eye-opening view of what plastic surgeons can do. As the population ages, people seem determined to stay youthful and lean as long as possible, and many of them are opting for appearance-enhancing procedures. A Colorado medical device company is taking advantage of this trend. McKinley Medical, LLC, based in Wheat Ridge, with a facility in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, provides infusion therapy for post-operative pain management. A leader in pain management systems for general and orthopedic surgery, McKinley currently targets three popular aesthetic/reconstructive procedures: abdominoplasty, breast augmentation and breast reconstruction. “Colorado’s Triple Threat: Dr. Michael R. Bristow - Clinician, Researcher and Entrepreneur” – Dr. Michael R. Bristow is a professor of cardiology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, co-director of the University of Colorado Cardiovascular Institute, and founder of Myogen, one of Colorado’s best bioscience success stories. “Everything I do,” he says, “is designed to develop new approaches for the treatment of heart failure.” You can read the FOCUS article about Dr. Bristow at
