State of New Mexico Department of Health Taps SumTotal Enterprise Suite
Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) February 7, 2006
SumTotal(TM) Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SUMT), the largest provider of learning and business performance technologies and services, said that the State of New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) has purchased SumTotal's enterprise suite to deliver and monitor emergency preparedness and response education for New Mexico's approximately 100,000 health/medical professionals. The contract includes SumTotal's learning management system (LMS) and learning content management system (LCMS), installation, consulting and maintenance. The enterprise suite also is expected to be a hub for educating public health staff to prevent and respond to public health emergencies.
"This solution supports effective, convenient and broad-reaching training, which will enhance our skills to quickly identify, investigate and respond to public health emergencies," said Gayle Kenny, education & training manager, New Mexico Department of Health's Epidemiology & Response Division. "The SumTotal platform will play a role in improving the way we perform our duties on behalf of the public and benefit the citizens of New Mexico."
SumTotal believes its suite will give NMDOH a new way to develop educational programs, deliver learning and analyze what's been learned. Before now, NMDOH had no easy way to capture and disseminate information for training with regard to the state's capacity in health emergency management.
"Our aim with this effort is to enhance the professional skill set of each New Mexico health/medical professional who has to face public health emergencies as well as offer a central web site to list all related training, drills and exercises available in New Mexico," said Don Fowler, SumTotal's chief executive. "We also believe our solution offers the state's Department of Health a way to expedite the delivery of learning and make it a lot more accessible to a far-flung workforce that must anticipate and meet a variety of potential emergencies, such as terrorism or avian flu."
Whether it's instructor-led programs, online content, videoconferencing or satellite broadcasts, SumTotal believes its enterprise suite will offer both a platform and a storehouse for New Mexico's collective resources on health emergency preparedness and response.
Funding for the NMDOH's learning-management initiative came from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
"Relative to other deals vendors have announced, this is among the largest contracts for the purchase of an enterprise learning suite that we've seen," said Peter McStravick, Learning Services program analyst for IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice. "The mission that this platform will support is clearly a justification for the size of the investment."
