(PRWEB) July 9, 2003

Sensitron has recently conducted the installation of a wireless medical monitoring system designed to capture, display and manage the vital signs of patients at the FDDMTF site, a prototype of a military hospital, at Ft. Detrick, MD. This system incorporates and uses the Bluetooth and WiFi enabled CareTrends™ System developed by Sensitron, Inc.

In just 60 minutes, the team was able to complete the installation which consisted of powering up the server, connecting the access point, activating the wireless handheld clients (pocket PCs) and positioning the medical devices at the bedside. Being a wireless system, there were no wires to untangle and the system was up and running from the moment the switches were turned on. With the intuitive user interface on the PDA, the training time for the users was just a few minutes. This landmark collaboration and installation provides the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, (TATRC) of the U. S. Army Medical Research & Materiel Command (USAMRMC), with state-of-the-art wireless medical monitoring capabilities that will accelerate the ability to achieve oversight of wounded soldiers in the field. Timely, targeted quality care will be enhanced with real-time remote access to the latest information on the health status of field personnel. Portability, flexibility and low power requirements of the CareTrends System allow the Army maximum options for customizing the system for a wide variety of field applications. Since the CareTrends System can interface with any brand or model of medical monitoring device, the Army can choose the instruments that are best adapted to the environmental and clinical requirements.

SensitronÂ’s CareTrends System offers a flexible patient monitoring system that allows remote access and mobility to the care providers in the forward area hospitals.

Use of Team Care Programs to Increase Nationwide, According to Hospital TeamCare

Use of Team Care Programs to Increase Nationwide, According to Hospital TeamCare

A recent research study coupled with healthcare reform initiatives indicate that doctors and hospitals will in the near future work together in increasing numbers, bringing a more collaborative approach to patient care. So says Hospital TeamCare, a leading provider of quality hospital-based outsourced physician services.

(PRWEB) January 10, 2011

According to Hospital TeamCare, a national outsourced physician services and staffing company, the use of Team Care programs is set to increase nationwide. According to the group, findings of a recent study, coupled with healthcare reform legislation will result in doctors and hospitals working more closely together in order to be paid for patient care services rendered.

A recent study published in the "New England Journal of Medicine" found that Team Care improves patient care outcomes. The study, published December 30, suggests that a Team Care approach would result in happier, healthier patients with improved clinical conditions. Researchers at the University of Washington Group Health Cooperative studied 214 patients with depression, poorly controlled diabetes, coronary artery disease or both. Patients were provided either a standard care or Team Care of providers. The team involved doctors, nurses, and patients working together. The results were less depression, better control of blood sugar, improved blood pressure and improved quality of life.

Paralleling with President Obama's healthcare reform initiatives, Hospital TeamCare states that the use of Team Care programs will increase nationwide. Healthcare reform legislation will cause insurance reimbursement to physicians and hospitals to be based upon patient cost, quality and outcomes. Thus physicians and hospitals will now have even greater shared goals and shared payments. Value-based purchasing concept, as it's called in health care reform, will require doctors, outsourced physicians and hospitals to all work together in cohesion for the patient - Team Care.

The Team Care concept was first described in the medical literature by ES Gurdjian in 1966, who recognized its importance in patient care. Since then, there have been multiple mentions of the importance of Team Care in the provision of patient care.

Team Care has increasingly become a useful tool in improving patient care and outcomes. In the 2008 edition of "Family Practice Management" P. Anderson et al. found that there are improved productivity and finances with Team Care. In 2003, "Hospital Case Management" reported that Team Care management lowers hospital length of stay. Length of stay reduction increases a hospital's capacity, and helps maintain the margin - thus lowering cost.

The multi-disciplinary Team Care approach revolves around collaboration. Investigators have cited the necessity of physician and nurse extenders in completing the team of providers. Whether it is a routine family medicine clinic visit, orthopedic surgery or emergency department visit, quality and outcomes are improved with Team Care.

According to Hospital TeamCare, Team Care has a positive financial impact, as well. As healthcare reform gains momentum, greater healthcare savings are predicted - to the tune of an estimated $143 billion over 10 years. Anecdotally, collections have been described in the literature to increase with a fully implemented Team Care model. Thus, an unprecedented savings is projected based upon the basic model that pairs hospital and doctor remuneration with the success of a patient's care.

Additionally, improved documentation, quality and likely outsourced physician services is also possible through Team Care. Quality and indirectly malpractice litigation and claims, affect revenue cycle management outcomes and the bottom line. Furthermore, it is described that patient satisfaction and staff satisfaction are both improved with Team Care. Minor clinical post surgical complications have also been reduced with hospital physicians, orthopedic surgeon and nurse Team Care.

When it comes to the future, as with healthcare reform, hospitals and physicians will have to work together for shared patient care goals, says the team at Hospital TeamCare. These care teams will strive to attain beneficiary quality and satisfaction, which are both measures tied to provider payments.

Though it remains unclear how health care reform will affect both patients and providers, Hospital TeamCare states that one thing is for certain -- there will be increased collaboration amongst providers, as the arithmetic seems clear: physicians, plus nurses and hospitals, equals patient care, which equals TeamCare.

An Open Letter of Apology to Sourav Ganguly, His Fans & Our Critics

An Open Letter of Apology to Sourav Ganguly, His Fans & Our Critics

An issue of apology to Sourav Ganguly, his fans and our critics for our former domain name, IHateGanguly. com.

(PRWEB) July 19, 2006

Hindsight has been a great leveller and has given us, at CricketWatchdogs. com, an opportunity to subscribe to the notion of regret and offer a public apology to those who were offended by our former domain, IhateGanguly. com, especially to Mr. Ganguly. Our intention was never to knowingly cause any offence to anyone, but to address the quagmire of favouritism, zonal politics and selectors’ incompetence and dilly-dallying that is reminiscent of Indian cricket. To that end, we would like to highlight a few facts:

Since the beginning, we provided a level playing field to both Ganguly critics and admirers. We enforced strict rules to prevent any regional comments or unwarranted personal attacks and never tolerated, let alone nurtured, any hatred. To date, our most celebrated moderator, and a part owner, remains a die-hard Ganguly supporter. Three out of eight active CWD owners are Ganguly supporters. And our founder has always proactively warded off any attempt to sideline Ganguly supporters.

We were also among the few ones who were quick to condemn Steve Waugh, who in his autobiography compared Ganguly’s bickering over pitches to match fixing.

We also openly praised and highlighted Ganguly’s two vital contributions against Sri Lanka when he managed to stay unbeaten overnight, thereby preventing batting collapses, and we questioned why a player who had barely defended eight balls in the two innings edged out Ganguly and won a place in the team. To us, that was a case of using two wrongs to correct one right.

In spite of our opposition to his being in the team when he was obviously struggling, we openly declared that when Ganguly retires for good, we would be the first to put his past accomplishments ahead of his disruptive years. Any captain who can envisage a victory on Australian and Pakistani soils is either pompous or tremendously self-confident. We are glad Ganguly turned out to be the latter. We always commended him for that.

It’s fair to say that nowadays Ganguly is not a recipient of any special treatment. However, we maintain that if he fought back and earned a place in the team again, that would be a well-earned feat and we would be happy for him and his supporters.

In recent times, we have vociferously increased our intensity in flagging the obvious double standards employed by the Management of Team India when assessing players’ form, which to us is one of the sole variants warranting a place in the side. It is becoming apparent that the benchmarks used in excluding Ganguly from the side were a prerogative reserved for Ganguly alone and are deliberately being ignored in the case of other players. Such double standards will continue to draw our keen attention.

The fact of the matter remains that we want to enjoy Indian cricket in its purest and greatest form. We want to relive the 1983 magic even if it means different domestic zones are represented disproportionately or sons of former cricket stars fail to get opportunities or if a captain is handed over a team that is not blessed by him or if a player endorsed by big companies is thrown out of the team.

We are opposed to any preferential treatment meted out to individuals based on past glory. Basking in past laurels is certainly not a fashion we style ourselves on. No one is indispensable when it comes to a matter of choice between a performer and a non-performer. We believe that no one is above the Team. At CricketWatchdogs. com, we do not condone blatant incompetence and favouritism. Rather we challenge the very doctrines that strive on such transgressions.

With the IhateGanguly. com relegated to history, CricketWatchdogs. com has a new outlook and a grander vision - foster healthy debates encapsulating varied walks of life within the realms of decency and good taste, minus the heavy-handed censorship. We encourage and include varying viewpoints from our members even if they contradict conventional wisdom, political correctness or our own views.

We have made mistakes, we have had triumphs, and we shall continue to relentlessly march forward towards our grand mission, just as Ganguly did in the World Cup 2003.

Yours truly,

Management

Emergency Preparedness Highlighted During Drinking Water Week

Emergency Preparedness Highlighted During Drinking Water Week

As Drinking Water Week continues, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) joins water professionals across North America in encouraging home preparedness for water-related emergencies.

Denver, CO (Vocus) May 7, 2009

As Drinking Water Week continues, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) joins water professionals across North America in encouraging home preparedness for water-related emergencies.

"We all have an important role to play in keeping our water supplies safe and preparing for the unexpected," said AWWA President Mike Leonard. "Drinking Water Week is a good time to set aside a few moments to prepare our own homes for rare water emergencies."

In the post 9/11 era, water professionals and emergency responders have taken steps to further protect water supplies, treatment facilities and distribution systems from natural and man-made disasters. Meanwhile, public health agencies, hospitals and emergency personnel continue to practice disaster response scenarios. Utilities have also developed WARN networks, which prepare them assist one another quickly and efficiently during emergencies.

Still, consumers should be prepared for rare service interruptions that can occur from natural disasters, system malfunctions, power outages or other events. Preparing for water emergencies includes:

Storing Water
Store one gallon (about 4 liters) of water per person per day. Have enough water on hand to last at least three days. As long as disinfected tap water is stored in a clean, airtight container in a cool location, it should remain safe indefinitely.  Store water in quality food-grade plastic containers instead of glass. Avoid paper containers that will weaken over time.

Observing Boil Water Notices
Your water utility has a process in place to alert you if problems exist with your tap water. Water suppliers, working with state and local health officials, may issue a "Boil Water Order" or a "Do Not Drink" notice if testing indicates contamination may be present.  When a Boil Water Order is issued, make sure any water used for drinking is boiled for at least three minutes (five minutes at higher altitudes). If you still have power, refrigerate the water after you have boiled it.  Listen to local news for status updates.

"We can all be partners in assuring the safety of our water by keeping an eye out for suspicious activity around water facilities, hydrants and storage tanks," Leonard added. "If you see something unusual, don't hesitate to call the police department and your water utility."

About Drinking Water Week

A safe, reliable water supply is critical to the success of any community. It creates jobs, attracts industry and investment, and provides for the health and welfare of citizens in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression. For more than 30 years, the American Water Works Association and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week - a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives.

Established in 1881, AWWA is the oldest and largest nonprofit, scientific and educational organization dedicated to safe water in North America. AWWA has more than 60,000 members worldwide and its 4,500 utility members serve 80 percent of the U. S. population.

AWWA is the authoritative resource for knowledge, information, and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond. AWWA is the largest organization of water professionals in the world. AWWA advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the efforts of the full spectrum of the entire water community. Through our collective strength we become better stewards of water for the greatest good of the people and the environment.

Growing Worker Shortages Becoming a Crisis: Seminar Addresses Strategies for Employee Retention

Growing Worker Shortages Becoming a Crisis: Seminar Addresses Strategies for Employee Retention

Employee retention becoming a major issue with most employers. Many organizations have not kept up with the changing needs of the workforce causing many good people to leave. Combined with the growing worker shortage, they are unable to fill jobs with qualified people.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 8, 2006

The high unemployment rate and the growing demand for skilled workers is creating a crisis for the majority of employers across the United States. It is getting more difficult to find and keep talented workers. As a result, organizations placing more effort in creating better places to work to retain their employees. Strategies enabling you to retain your best and brightest are available at the upcoming workshop, Here Today, Here Tomorrow, being held in Atlanta on July 20th. The one-day seminar sponsored by Chart Your Course International and People Skills International will be held at the World Trade Center Club at 303 Peachtree Street from 8:30 a. m. to 4:30 p. m.

Greg Smith, president of Chart Your Course International and author of Here Today, Here Tomorrow, says, “Unemployment is the lowest it has been since 2000 and estimates show 48 to 65 percent of the workforce is dissatisfied with their current employment situation and could leave for better positions as the economic situation continues to improve. The healthcare industry is most at risk. To keep their workforce intact, employers need solid strategies for employee retention.”

The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Wall Street Journal website recently completed the Job Recovery Survey. The key findings revealed 64 percent of employees said they were extremely likely to begin or increase the intensity of their job search. An additional 19 percent said they were somewhat likely to increase their search.

“U. S. businesses spend over $200 billion annually recruiting and replacing employees,” says Karla Brandau, president of People Skills International and authority in Culture Integrity. “It would make sense for companies to reduce the money spent replacing employees by spending the money to retain employees, thus reducing training time for new employees. When good employees are retained, productivity and innovation increase as you climb the ladder together rather than putting productivity on hold as you step down a rung or two to get new employees up to speed. By retaining your best and brightest, you will reduce expenses while you make faster progress toward increased market share and organizational effectiveness.”

Get free articles on employee retention and learn more about the coming seminar at http://www. chartcourse. com (http://www. chartcourse. com). Questions can be answered by calling Chart Your Course at 770-860-9464 or People Skills International at 770-923-0883.

Men Use Cell Phone to Track Partner's Fertility and Menstruation

Men Use Cell Phone to Track Partner's Fertility and Menstruation

EggAlert, an innovative new service by PDAHealthWare, Inc., allows men to use their cell phone to receive text messages of when their girlfriends or wives are most likely to become pregnant and when their next menstrual period is likely to begin, before premenstrual symptoms start.

(PRWEB) August 8, 2005

A new text messaging service, called EggAlert, allows men to get notified on their cell phone of their wives or girlfriends ovulation, fertility, and menstrual periods each month. The menstrual period notifications are received five days prior to the onset of menstruation, typically before premenstrual symptoms start.

EggAlert is an innovative program that will notify men when their wives or girlfriends are ovulating, fertile, and likely to start their menstrual period. Men just need to do a little math. They need to remember when their partners started their last menstrual period, and how long it took between menstrual periods. On average 28 days is the normal. It can be adjusted each month if it's a few days longer or shorter.

In addition, using research that employs theories about the timing of conception and its influence on conceiving a boy or girl, EggAlert can also allow couples to implement this theory which may increase their ability to select the gender of their child.

EggAlert is ideal for busy couples who are trying to become pregnant, or men who wish to track their partner's menstrual cycle, but don't have the time to sit a computer and track each and every detail of their cycle. Dr. Dave', CEO of PDAHealthWare, Inc., states, "EggAlert significantly increases a woman's chances of pregnancy with very little time required on their part." It also notifies them of when a new menstrual period is likely to start, 5 days before the onset of menstruation and before premenstrual symptoms.

EggAlert is available by subscription at www. EggAlert. com and can be canceled by the user at anytime without penalties or charges.

Perfect Pads Have a Southern Flair

Perfect Pads Have a Southern Flair

Christina GabbardÂ’s business of making washable, re-usable cloth menstrual pads now has a southern flair.

CLEMMONS, NC. (PRWEB) September 17, 2005

Christina GabbardÂ’s business of making washable, re-usable cloth menstrual pads now has a southern flair.

Her company Perfect Pads, recently moved to North Carolina from the tight space it had occupied in ChristinaÂ’s Michigan dining room since its founding in 1999. Initially Christina did all the sewing on her own, but quickly the business surged and she hired out one contract sewer. Currently, Christina has one full-time and a part-time worker; she expects to find a manufacturing company soon to help her keep up with the demand.

Perfect Pads cotton menstrual pads are made of fabric and are a convenient all-in-one design. The absorbent core and leak-proof layer are all together in one pad that conveniently snaps in place. No need for inserts or snap-on parts. “We like to keep things simple and easy “ says Christina. Perfect Pads can be washed and re-used for about five years.

“Just as women come in many sizes, Perfect Pads come in many sizes that are fun and colorful. They allow women to make a statement about who they are - happy, healthy, responsible women.”

Only a handful of small companies nationally sell similar reusable pads. Perfect Pads is the biggest one selling the easy, all-in-one style. The company has reported profits every year since itÂ’s start in 1999. Perfect Pads are distributed through health food stores, as well as through mail order and Internet site sales (http://perfectpads. net (http://perfectpads. net).)

The company is experiencing a major growth spurt. Plans to go international are looming. Christina has already sold Perfect Pads to overseas customers in Switzerland, Africa and Malaysia.

“Perfect Pads are a fun way to help stem the flow of landfill waste as well as save money. Six Perfect Pads cost about what a woman would spend on disposable pads or tampons in a year. And for those concerned about chemicals used in commercial products, Perfect Pads has an organic cotton version,” said Christina.

She said that women who are squeamish about washing and reusing cloth pads generally overcome their reservations when she points out the ease of use and care of Perfect Pads. The alternative: billions of pads and tampons rotting in landfills and sewers. Not to mention womenÂ’s repeated exposure to dioxins readily found in disposable pads and tampons.

Christina began the business soon after she began to research the feminine hygiene products industry; looking for the best brand to recommend to her four daughters that would be coming of age. She was shocked to find that harmful chemicals are used in them and immediately resolved to create a healthier, environmentally responsible alternative for herself and her daughters. “Mothers and daughters being healthy, responsible, and knowing that there are alternatives is what is most important.”

“We’ll continue serving woman from menses to menopause, only now with southern flair.”

For additional information on this innovative company contact Christina Gabbard at 336-480-4301 or visit the website (http://perfectpads. net (http://perfectpads. net).)

Argosy Grad Publishes Book on Military Contracting

Argosy Grad Publishes Book on Military Contracting

Dr. Rene Rendon, a graduate of Argosy University/Orange County, has published a book on military contracting. He is a senior lecturer at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

Santa Ana, Calif. (PRWEB) June 7, 2007

Today's military personnel need to know more than how to fire weapons and hunt down enemies. They must also know how to handle multi-million dollar contracts for high-tech weapon systems.

These are some of the lessons that Dr. Rene G. Rendon teaches at the United States Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. A former resident of southern California, Rendon is a senior lecturer in the school's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. He graduated with a Doctorate of Business Administration degree from Argosy University's Orange County campus in 2003 and is also a member of the university's Alumni Council.

"The Department of Defense does not build weapon systems like missiles and aircraft," said Rendon, who teaches courses on acquisition and contract management. "All of these weapon system programs are awarded to major defense contractors like Lockheed Martin and Boeing, to name a few."

Rendon has extensive experience overseeing military contracts and dealing with major defense corporations. He has also conducted research for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics), as well as the U. S. Navy.

Before he became a college professor, Rendon served for more than 22 years as a contracting and acquisitions officer in the Air Force. He worked as a contracting officer for the F-22 Raptor program. The F-22 Raptor is a radar-evading fighter, which has been designated as the military's main warplane for the 21st century. The F-22 Raptor is estimated to cost about $300 million per plane. Rendon also worked on the Peacekeeper Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program.

Rendon was also the director of contracting for the Air Force's space and surveillance satellite and space launch rocket programs, and served as contracting squadron commander for an Air Force pilot training base.

Rendon has authored two books. He recently co-authored U. S. Military Program Management: Lessons Learned and Best Practices, and he published "Contract Management: Organizational Assessment Tools" in 2005. Both books are used by students at the United States Naval Postgraduate School. Rendon's most recent publication focuses on how the military manages outsourcing on various defense contracts.

"The U. S. Department of Defense and the related defense industry develop some of the most expensive and complex systems ever created. U. S. Military Program Management presents a unique and exhaustive account of what it takes to manage major U. S. military programs and offers recommendations for improving practices in the future. More than 15 leading experts present case studies, best practices and lessons from the Army, Navy, and Air Force from both the government and industry/contractor perspective in the book," Rendon said.

Dr. Jeb Egbert, president of Argosy University's Orange County campus, said that faculty members are very proud of Rendon's professional success. "Argosy University's flexible programs, which include online, evening and weekend courses, are perfect for working professionals," Egbert said. "Our flexible programs are able to attract gifted students like Rene."

Most of the students in the Naval Postgraduate School's MBA program are officers in the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marine Corps. After graduating, they are typically assigned to jobs overseeing the management of weapon system programs. "There is a big demand for these educated officers because the government is contracting and outsourcing many of the services previously performed by people in the Department of Defense," Rendon said. "Their skills and experience are very critical and valuable to the Department of Defense."

Rendon's doctoral thesis focused on how large organizations assess and manage outsourced projects. It was the basis of his first book, which is referenced by students at the Naval Postgraduate School. It also helped him get into teaching full time at the Naval Postgraduate School after he retired from the Air Force. Rendon had previously taught part-time at UCLA Extension and the Keller Graduate School of Management in Los Angeles.

ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN DOCTORS LEAD SAN FRANCISCO BENEFIT TO EXPAND TEACHING AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL IN ISRAEL

ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN DOCTORS LEAD SAN FRANCISCO BENEFIT TO EXPAND TEACHING AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL IN ISRAEL

San Franciscans host a benefit for Israel's Soroka Medical Center, an oasis of hope and healing in a region that is sorely lacking in both.

(PRWEB) February 8, 2002

ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN DOCTORS LEAD SAN FRANCISCO BENEFIT TO EXPAND TEACHING AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL IN ISRAEL

–Soroka Medical Center is Oasis of Hope and Healing for All Religions, Races and Ethnicities–

SAN FRANCISCO (February 6, 2002)–The Golden Gate Yacht Club seems an unlikely place to raise funds for a desert hospital, but that is exactly what will occur on Wednesday, February 27, 2002. The Soroka Medical Center of the Negev, the largest hospital serving the uniquely diverse population of Israel’s southern desert and the second largest hospital in Israel, will be hosting a cross-cultural educational and musical evening to benefit the expansion of its facilities. Scheduled guest speakers include Israeli Dr. Eytan Hyam, director general of the Soroka Medical Center, and Palestinian Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, the hospital’s first medical resident from the Palestinian Authority in Gaza.

Located in the biblical town of Beersheba (Beer Sheva), the Soroka Medical Center serves a modern city with a multi-ethnic and multi-lingual population. The hospital is a primary and tertiary care facility for over 1,500,000 Jews, Moslems and Christians, including the large numbers of Arab Bedouins and recent Russian and Ethiopian immigrants that live in the Negev, Israel’s largest region. Soroka also serves patients referred by Palestinian medical facilities in Gaza and Egyptian medical facilities in the Sinai. The entire hospital, and its fully integrated Jewish/Arab medical staff, offers hope and healing for patients of every faith, ethnicity and income level. The 12,000 babies delivered every year at Soroka symbolize the spirit of co-existence–births are equally divided between Arabs and Jews.

"Beersheba has been a desert crossroads and oasis since the time of AbrahamÂ’s sojourn in the city. In Beersheba today, Soroka honors his legacy as the father of two peoples through its gleaming example of healing and cooperation," explained Isabel Maxwell, co-chair of the Soroka Medical Center fundraiser. "There are few medical institutions in the world that must cope with a more varied patient population, and there are few who do it with the grace and effectiveness of the Soroka Medical Center of the Negev."

A Teaching and Research Institution Serving Special Needs

Soroka is a teaching and research hospital with the largest emergency facility and trauma center in Israel, and the largest pediatric infectious diseases unit in the entire Middle East. The hospital has gained worldwide recognition for studies on new vaccines, invasive infections and resistant organisms. The hospital also excels at meeting the unique medical needs of its many patient communities, like the Bedouins and new immigrants from Ethiopia and Russia. The Bedouins, who were isolated from the larger Arab world for centuries, and who make up 25% of SorokaÂ’s patient load, suffer disproportionately from genetic conditions that are uncommon in the general population. SorokaÂ’s Genetic Research Institute, one of many special facilities, focuses on the treatment of birth defects especially prevalent in the Bedouin community.

Due to the unprecedented growth in patient admissions, Soroka Medical Center is embarking on a major expansion of its currently overcrowded facilities. The American Friends of Soroka Medical Center is supported by Eric Benhamou, chairman of Silicon ValleyÂ’s 3Com and Palm, and Isabel Maxwell, president emeritus of Commtouch and consultant to Apax Partners. Benhamou and Maxwell, serving as co-chairs of the benefit, have organized a cross-cultural night that will feature live Bedouin music (performed by Yair Delal, Heleil Al Awiwi and Joe Santi Owen), a full Middle Eastern dinner, as well as the presentations by Drs. Abuelaish and Hyam. San FranciscoÂ’s Golden Gate Yacht Club will be transformed into a Bedouin encampment for the evening, and attendees will go home with a CD of Bedouin Music and a Hamsa, a classic Levantine amulet that symbolizes good luck and good health.

About American Friends of Soroka Medical Center of the Negev

The organization is dedicated to raising awareness about the work of Soroka Medical Center of the Negev and to providing financial support for its activities. American Friends also serves to expand SorokaÂ’s outreach through educational programs and conferences on womenÂ’s health issues, medical breakthroughs and other relevant topics. American Friends supports SorokaÂ’s excellence in medical research. Counselor and Business Coach, Casey Truffo, MFT, Reveals How to Find a Psychotherapist by Surfing the Web

Counselor and Business Coach, Casey Truffo, MFT, Reveals How to Find a Psychotherapist by Surfing the Web

Millions of people each year look for a counselor to help them with emotional or relationship problems. In years past, finding the right therapist was like blind dating. Today, the internet offers consumers a more thorough and satisfying method of selecting the right therapist.

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) July 10, 2008

Twenty-six million people in the United States are diagnosed each year with a mental disorder. Several million more experience divorce, death and physical illness with associated depression and anxiety. You can't turn on the TV without seeing an ad for medication to help with everything from severe depression to shyness. But where do people who are struggling with mental health or relationship problems find relief? Counseling can often help but finding the right therapist can be a challenge. There are many types of licensed mental health care professionals with different specialties, credentials and personalities. How does one find a good counselor who really understands and can help?

According to marriage and family therapist and practice-building coach, Casey Truffo (http://beawealthytherapist. com/meet. html) of Irvine, California, consumers are now looking to the internet to find a psychotherapist in their area. "In the past, most counseling referrals came from the clergy or a physician. But, clients didn't know anything about their therapist before they met for the first time. It was like a blind date. Clients went in for their first appointment, shared the excruciating details of their situation, and then had to decide if this was the right counselor for them. Many continued with therapy even it didn't feel right. With the internet, people seeking therapists can learn about many therapists in their geographic area. This can lead to a more informed choice of counselors and, potentially, a better resolution to the problem that brought the person into counseling."

What to look for when checking out therapists on the internet? Because Truffo believes that not every therapist is a good match for every client, one key to selecting a good therapist has to do with personality match. "When a therapist has a well-developed, multi-media website, the potential client can get a good sense of the therapist. Not only can they see what the therapist looks like (which was rarely an option before the internet), they can hear his or her voice and get a sense of how they interact," says Truffo. "Studies have shown that people do best in therapy when there is a good relationship between the client and therapist. Just like online dating, viewing a therapist's website video can help a person decide if this is the right therapist for him or her." Truffo advises, "Review several website and profiles of therapists and consider which therapist you feel would be a good match for you and your situation."

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what about audio and video? According to Truffo, those looking for a counselor can now view potential therapists' website and not only see a picture of the therapist, but also can often listen to an audio recording or view a video created by the therapist. The therapist, via multimedia, can share how he or she works and explain what steps to take to get started. "Many psychotherapists now offer online appointment scheduling so that clients can get immediate access to the therapist's schedule. This works great when you are surfing the web for a therapist at 3 a. m. You can make the appointment and go back to sleep knowing you are going to get help; you know you have a therapy appointment scheduled."

What about the cost? Psychotherapy fees can vary widely. "If finances are a concern, many communities have low-cost counseling options. These are often listed in the front pages of the phone book," says Truffo. "Also, many therapists accept credit cards for payment which can be a life-saver during tough times. Ask your therapist if he or she accepts credit cards. Don't be afraid to discuss financial concerns with your therapist."

But what about credentials? It is important that the counselor be licensed or certified in accordance with his or her state laws. In the past, this was almost impossible for the average consumer to verify. "However, now all one has to do is to go online and check the state licensing boards to discover if the therapist's license is in good standing."

Do the therapists that market on the internet do in-person or therapy over the internet? Although some therapists offer therapy via email and instant messaging, most counseling is either done in the therapist's office or over the telephone according to Truffo. "However, this is changing. We already see clients asking for more immediate and electronic forms of therapy. I believe that the 50-minute, in-office therapy session will be augmented with other options including phone, email and webcast sessions. Since 'e-therapy' is the wave of the future, I encourage therapists to be very familiar with their state licensing laws before offering such services.

Get the word out - Truffo is in the business of helping psychotherapists get the word out about what they do so that people who need help can find it and get out of pain. "Counselors want to help people." Truffo says. "Psychotherapists are now learning that by marketing on the internet, it is easy for them to let their community know they are there to help." Truffo adds, "And never before has the consumer had this type of opportunity to compare and contrast counselors before choosing the right one and getting help."

Casey Truffo, MFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist, award-winning speaker and teaches practice-building to counselors on five continents. She is the author of Be A Wealthy Therapist: Finally You Can Make a Living While Making a Difference (http://makealivingbook. com). Marching Forward to Stamp Out Child Labour

Marching Forward to Stamp Out Child Labour

BHADOHI, INDIA: Despite the efforts of western carpet chain stores and many NGOs, child labour in the Indian carpet industry is still endemic. A determined effort with solid economic underpinning is well under way starting in the rugs and carpets business.

BHADOHI, INDIA (PRWEB) September 14, 2004

Despite the efforts of western carpet chain stores and many NGOs, child labour in the Indian carpet industry is still endemic. A determined effort with solid economic underpinning is well under way starting in the rugs and carpets business.

Carpet and rug-making are an ancient trade that unfortunately took an

Ugly turn during 70s and 80s. There was a great rush of demand for Indain handmade carpets. Orders poured in but there was a production constraint. To exploit this opportunity, loom owners and contractors started employing child labour who were mostly imported from neighbouring states. Their numbers increased to an alarming proportion during 90s.

The practice continues though is somewhat clandestine. These child workers are not only deprived of their basic rights but also develop health problems by sitting hunched on looms for hours often in poor light. In addition, the artificial dyes used caused serious damage to the environment both at the time of production and also at the time of disposal.

While consumers may be shocked at the environmental damage caused and the conditions under which children work to produce certain goods such as rugs and carpets, there are few reasonable alternatives to the rugs and carpets produced by child carpet workers coloured with artificial dyes.

A revolutionary environmentally friendly rug called CloudSEJ is now available which uses all natural inputs and retains the natural colouring of the fiber so that artificial dyes are not needed. The rugs do not need to be washed saving not only massive use of water but also avoiding the use of chemicals that pollute environment. CloudSEJ is made by master craftsmen in villages who are paid generously for their work and no child labour whatsoever is used. The production of CloudSEJ is part of a larger village-centred self-sustaining economic system that is already evolving.

Mr Naseem Ansari took particular exception to the use of child labour and environmentally dangerous materials in rug production. The ennWorld Trust was formed to work towards the elimination of child labour and environmentally unfriendly materials. The first product launched by ennWorld is the CloudSEJ rug.

"What we are doing is launching a viable and excellent rug to compete with the carpetwallas," explained Mr Ansari. The term "carpetwallas" literally means "carpet vendors" but is often used to refer to bosses of carpet production who exploit child labour to the fullest.

EnnWorld has a satellite office in the UK and is headquartered in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India near to the nation's capital of New Delhi.

Understand the Dynamics of the Indian Pharma Sector and the Effect of Recent Changes in Patent Laws and Tax Policies on the Evolution of the Market

Understand the Dynamics of the Indian Pharma Sector and the Effect of Recent Changes in Patent Laws and Tax Policies on the Evolution of the Market

Research and Markets (researchandmarkets. com/reports/c32803) has announced the addition of India’s Growth Prospects in Pharma: Evolution, Not Revolution to their offering.

Dublin (PRWEB) February 15, 2006

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c32803 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c32803)) has announced the addition of India’s Growth Prospects in Pharma: Evolution, Not Revolution to their offering.

The value of the Indian pharmaceutical industry grew 11% in 2004 from 2003; with the top 10 Indian pharmas accounting for 46% of the market, and R&D spend increasing by 36%. Compliance with international intellectual property protection and an increasing threat of foreign players moving into India are factors currently changing the dynamics of the market.

This report provides an overview of the Indian healthcare system including recent legislative changes on patent laws, compulsory licensing and tax incentives. It examines the evolution of the Indian pharmaceutical industry and the performance of the 10 leading domestic players. The report contains an assessment of the strength of India’s offering in generics, contract services and innovation for domestic development and geographic expansion together with a strategic evaluation of the leading growth strategies available for Indian players and foreign companies.

Indian companies have recognized the opportunity presented by western pharma in search of lower costs and higher profits, and are exploiting the low cost base and pool of highly skilled labor in their market to develop a thriving outsourcing industry, positioning India as a key provider of contract research and manufacturing services.

India is increasing its R&D and biotechnology focus and taking advantage of the low R&D productivity of developed markets to gain partnerships with western players. These alliances enable the companies to gain expertise in discovery and development as well as maximizing revenues if and when products reach the market.

Pharmas and biotechs in the US, Europe and Japan have realized the increasing role of India at a global level. Many players are outsourcing non-core activities of the research and manufacturing process. Outsourcing is a popular option, while off-shoring via direct investment, joint venture or acquisition is also proving successful.

Skincare-News Reveals the Truth Behind 10 Skincare & Beauty Myths

Skincare-News Reveals the Truth Behind 10 Skincare & Beauty Myths

Ever wondered if UV rays can penetrate windows or if thinning hair is genetic or if drinking water is the key to hydrated skin? Here, Skincare-News. com uncovers the facts behind these and other common beliefs about skincare.

Rancho Cordova, CA (PRWEB) September 28, 2010

Many people think they’re safe from the sun when they’re indoors. They might believe that it’s best to abandon a beauty product if it doesn’t work right away, or that retinoids are forbidden for sensitive skin. Well, even beauty buffs may be surprised to learn the facts. The latest article from Skincare-News. com, “10 Skincare Myths Busted,” helps set the skincare record straight by revealing the truth behind 10 common myths.

1. Myth: All sunglasses offer UV protection.

Fact: Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. All sunglasses don’t automatically offer UV protection and some that say they do may not. Look for sunglasses that say that they block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays.

Also, to ensure sunglasses provide the protection their label states, take the pair to an eye doctor. Most eye doctors have equipment that can double-check sunglasses. And avoid sunglasses that don’t specify the amount of protection or glasses with terms like “UV absorbing,” “cosmetic” or "blocks most UV light,” which are ways to get around the unfortunately lax FDA regulations.

2. Myth: Thinning hair is purely genetic.

Fact: Actually, thinning tresses are the result of a variety of factors. Genetics is just one. High levels of hormones during pregnancy can cause the body to retain hair and lead to thicker tresses. Post-pregnancy, when hormones return to their normal levels, this hair can fall out. (Not to worry, though, because regular growth rates return after several months.) Hormonal fluctuations during menopause can also trigger thinning hair.

Other culprits include extreme dieting, nutritional deficiencies, medications (like antidepressants), stress, hair styling and natural aging.

3. Myth: Drinking water helps hydrate skin.

Fact: This belief appears in tons of sources, even skincare sites, but it’s absolutely false. Drinking water does hydrate the body, but it doesn’t hydrate the skin.

According to dermatologists, no research has ever substantiated this claim, which is largely perpetuated by fitness and fashion magazines. One study did find an association between drinking water and skin hydration; however, it used high-priced mineral water, and the study had no control group.

NuSil Technology Expands Line of Aircraft and Aerospace Materials

NuSil Technology Expands Line of Aircraft and Aerospace Materials

The newest addition, R-3930, is a one-part fluorosilicone elastomer with robust physical properties. This material is designed for fuel and solvent resistance and is noted for its ice phobic properties.

Carpinteria, California (Vocus) June 17, 2009

NuSil Technology (http://www. nusil. com (http://www. nusil. com)), a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone-based materials for aerospace, aircraft, electronics and photonics industries, announces the launch of an extension to its line of adhesives and sealants. R-3930 is a fluorosilicone, one-part silicone elastomer designed to cure under ambient conditions.

Tested alongside fuels, such as JP8 and DiEGME, NuSil's R-3930 (http://www. nusil. com/products/findproducts. aspx? s=r-3930) is ideal for coating, sealing and bonding applications requiring fuel or solvent resistance. This unique elastomer is a room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone elastomer dispersed in tertbutyl (T-butyl) acetate with a wide operating temperature range.

“We aim to develop innovative silicone materials for practical and unique applications,” said Brian Nash, vice president of Marketing and Sales. “R-3930 addresses many of the challenges faced while working on large platforms or where surfaces may be exposed to harsh conditions such as corrosive solvents or fuels.”

Intended for spraying and dip-casting, this versatile material is uniquely designed for curing in thin elastomeric films. It is both easy to work with in the field and to apply on large surfaces, and the cure time may be accelerated with the slight addition of heat. R-3930 bonds aggressively to most surfaces without the need of a primer and is excellent for consideration as a coating to minimize ice adhesion.

The skinny on Cellulite

The skinny on Cellulite

Everyone – even skinny supermodels – can get cellulite. Although regular exercise, adequate water intake and a low-fat diet are key in eliminating this unsightly problem, doctors have found a few dimple-reducing treatments to help ease the bumpiness in life.

Singapore (PRWEB) September 3, 2004

Aesthetic Physician, Dr. Low Chai Ling, is plugging carboxytherapy as the latest and greatest technique to eliminate the pitted appearance of cellulite.

“Some ladies have spent hundreds of dollars on body wraps and cellulite creams with little success. With carboxytherapy, patients can expect to see visible results after a series of 6-10 treatments! Most of them are extremely happy with their results so far,” she said.

“It is a non surgical method. Carbon dioxide is infiltrated into the subcutaneous tissue through a tiny needle about 0.3mm in diameter.”

“How does the carbon dioxide work? Firstly, and quite simply carbon dioxide mechanically kills fat cells. Secondly, it also causes dilation of blood vessels in the area. Wider vessels mean bigger and stronger blood flow to the area, which means more oxygen. The increase in oxygen is important because it eliminates the built up fluid from between the cells. The end result is fewer fat cells and firmer tissue.”

Mother of a 2 month old baby herself, Dr. Low first performed the treatment on herself. 8 weeks after the baby was born, she is fitting into her pre-pregnancy clothes again.

S. L. Lock, 58, a patient of Dr. Low at The Sloane Clinic swears by the treatment even after her initial course of 6 sessions for maintenance of her figure. She has undergone the procedure 10 times so far and still continues to undergo the procedure once a month for maintenance.

"I've tried many different diets, exercise. I tried tablets, I tried creams but to no avail," she said.

“I was anxious about results and was disappointed when I didn’t see any change after my first treatment. However after my 5th session I noticed that my skin looks noticeably healthier. Around the 9th session, I began to appreciate that my thighs felt firmer and was less lumpy-looking.”

When asked if this is a treatment she will continue putting her money on, Madam Lock commented, “Until another better and cheaper treatment comes along, I will be continuing with my carboxytherapies for the years ahead. I think it complements my fitness regime and my lifestyle perfectly.”

Priced at US$60-80 per session, carboxytherapy offers a surprisingly affordable alternative to the more invasive liposuction and the more expensive endermology procedures.

Dr. Kenneth Lee of Eastlife Medical Centre also sees between 5-10 patients a day requesting for such cellulite treatments. He combines his carboxytherapy treatments with mesotherapy for greater results, especially for patients with “stubborn pockets of fat”

“Treatments such as carboxytherapy and mesotherapy are popular with women nowadays because they provide another option for them to treat their cellulite. However, long term results can only be maintained by a healthy diet and regular exercise,” he stressed.

Though popular, carboxytherapy is clearly still not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. For those who think they have found a permanent cure for cellulite, think again.

“If you choose to follow a healthy diet complemented by regular exercise, the cellulite can stay away for years after these cellulite treatments. If you tend to overeat and never quite find the time for that hour in the gym, the cellulite will return much quicker. On average, it'll be 5 to 6 months before you see it starting to creep back in though,” warns Dr. Low Chai Ling

RedPath Integrated Pathology Awarded Medicare Reimbursement Coverage for PathFinderTG&#174

RedPath Integrated Pathology Awarded Medicare Reimbursement Coverage for PathFinderTG®

Approval provides Medicare beneficiaries with access to highly-definitive cancer testing.

Pittsburgh (Vocus) June 27, 2007

RedPath Integrated Pathology, Inc. ("RedPath") announced today that its genomic-based cancer diagnostic test, PathFinderTG®, has been approved by Highmark Medicare Services for reimbursement coverage.

"The PathFinderTG test helps to resolve even the most difficult cancer diagnoses, allowing for clarity in indeterminate, equivocal, suspicious and non-diagnostic specimens in a wide variety of cancer types," said Mary Del Brady, president and CEO of RedPath. "The reimbursement approval means that this powerful diagnostic tool can now be readily available to Medicare beneficiaries."

Currently, PathFinderTG is offered in more than half of the major cancer centers in the United States, as well as in other hospital and outpatient settings. For patients with conditions that have been difficult to diagnose, PathFinderTG provides a personalized, definitive answer, ending the cycles of traditional testing and retesting, and thereby preventing potentially inappropriate treatments and life-threatening delays.

"Medicare reimbursement provides tremendous validation of the efficacy of the PathFinderTG testing platform and the impact it can have on patient management and individualized treatment. PathFinderTG succeeds where traditional diagnostic modalities are unable to make a patient-specific determination," said Brady. "It is a tool that provides additional diagnostic information for more effective patient management decisions and more efficient use of healthcare resources."

A recent study of pancreatic patients at the University of Michigan underscored the cost-saving potential of the test. It demonstrated that definitive diagnostic results through use of PathFinderTG reduced the number of pancreatectomies on benign conditions by 34 percent. The study came on the heels of two separate abstracts indicating that post-operatively, 70 to 78 percent of pancreatectomies were performed unnecessarily for benign conditions.

According to the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), while diagnostics comprise less than 5 percent of hospital costs and about 1.6 percent of all Medicare costs, their findings influence as much as 60 to 70 percent of healthcare decision-making. As a genomic-based test, PathFinderTG reveals definitive information contained within the cells of an individual specimen to dramatically improve the quality of patient care and use of resources. Pathologists and clinicians can minimize or eliminate ambiguity in diagnoses for faster and completely personalized courses of therapy.

About RedPath Integrated Pathology, Inc.
Founded in 2004, RedPath Integrated Pathology is one of a growing class of diagnostic companies that are commercializing genomic-based technologies. RedPath's patented PathFinderTG® test brings a dynamic, complementary new tool to the traditional pathology process, yielding comprehensive, personalized, objective and definitive diagnostic results for patients.

RedPath's commercial laboratory is CLIA certified and CAP accredited and provides complex cancer diagnostic testing for pathologists, oncologists and clinicians. Its patented molecular-based analysis, PathFinderTG, offers clinicians and pathologists the power of genomics for early and extraordinarily accurate cancer diagnosis across a wide variety of specialty types. The ES400’s integrated voice and data capabilities unleash the full potential of mobile professionals by empowering them with the information and interaction they need to streamline operations and increase margin by completing work faster, more thoroughly and delivering accurate, timely data back to management at the lowest cost.

“What sets apart the latest generation of mobile devices like the ES400, is that they combined the best of mobile computing platform driven applications with Smartphone communications. From the mobile worker’s perspective, now they have a single device that keeps them informed and in-touch,” Kleban said at the launch event. “Today’s smart enterprise leverages an ever more tech savvy workforce.”

Mobile deployments continue at a brisk pace. “Even in this slow economy enterprise leaders recognize the value that mobile brings to an operation and they are deploying applications that are time-tested, widely supported and have low TCO,” Kleban continued. He pointed to Syclo’s Agentry platform for developing mobile software and mature, off-the shelf work management applications available for SAP, IBM, Oracle and other ERPs from the Syclo SMART Mobile Suite of products.
