PA State Nurses Association Awards Area Nurses for Their Outstanding Commitment to the Nursing Profession

The PA State Nurses Association awarded several area nurses for their successes and commitments to the nursing profession at its Annual Awards Banquet held on October 23, 2004. Nurses from all across the state and their families gathered at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center in Hershey, PA to honor this yearÂ’s award recipients

Among those to receive awards was Senator Allen Kukovich, of the 39th Senatorial District in Westmoreland County. The PA State Nurses Assn. awarded Sen. Kukovich with the John Heinz Friend of Nursing Award for his accomplishments and commitment to the nursing profession throughout the Commonwealth.

The 2004 registered nurse award winners were:

Distinguished Nurse Award was awarded to Margarete Lieb Zalon, PhD, RN, APRN, BC, of Waymart, PA, for her contributions and accomplishments to the nursing profession throughout the Commonwealth.

Nursing Research Award was awarded to Cynthia Glawe Mailloux, PhD, RN, of Glen Summit, PA, for her research contributions to the advancement of nursing knowledge for practice, education, and health policy.

Mary Anne Arty Legislative Award was awarded to Patricia J. Hefner, RN, C, of Wexford, PA, for her active involvement in legislative activities, including providing testimony to the US Senate on overtime standards and her ability to inspire her peers to become actively involved in the legislative process.

Administrative-Management Award was awarded to Mary (Molly) Sebastian, MSN, CCRN, of Emmaus, PA, for her strength of character, commitment and contributions to the provision of nursing care through her ability to lead other nurses.

Nurse as Global Citizen Award was awarded to Ann M. Mitchell, PhD, RN, of Pittsburgh, PA, for her significant contribution within the nursing profession for the benefit of mankind.

Kathryn J. Grove Advocacy Award was awarded to Michele P. Campbell, MSN, RNC, of Harrisburg, PA, for her significant contributions to the nursing profession and commitment as an advocate for nurses and patients.

Nursing Education Award was awarded to Michele August-Brady, DNSc, RN, of Bethlehem, PA, for her commitment as a role model in the nursing community -- inspiring her peers to improve their quality of practice.

Courage, Commitment & Compassion Award was awarded to Lori Walstrom, RN, of Latrobe, PA, for playing a vital role in nursing and providing the highest quality of care to citizens of the Commonwealth and going above and beyond the call of duty in times of critical need by maintaining an unwavering commitment to her profession.
