Mothers of Special Needs Children Get a Very Special Conference

Mothers of Special Needs Children Get a Very Special Conference

Spring conference in Texas to help teach, support and empower mothers of children with special needs to care for themselves too!

Austin, TX (PRWEB) December 2, 2010

Parenting a child with special needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy can be quite draining emotionally, psychologically, and physically; as well as socially isolating. That is why on April 9th, 2011, an intimate group of fifty moms who care for children with special needs will be coming together at the Candlelight Ranch near Austin, Texas for a one of a kind holistically-focused self-care conference, the Special Moms, Special Healing Conference and Revitalizing Retreat. The theme is: Loving Yourself=Loving Your Special Needs Children. Unlike most events centered around disabilities, this one focuses on the caretaker’s health and well-being.

The conference is being organized by Special Moms, Special Healing, a support and resource site founded by Julie McAllister, a mom to two children with special needs. After having suffered from and overcome depression, Julie realized the lack of support available for moms of children with special needs and decided to create a place for them to go online. This event is an offline extension of her site, meant to bring her readers face to face while reinforcing the importance of self-love and self-care. According to McAllister, “The Special Moms, Special Healing Conference was created to inspire mothers of special needs children to recognize that behind the name of “mother” there is still a “woman.” When mothers love themselves as much as they love their special needs children, everyone benefits. This conference will inspire mothers who are parents of special needs children to take care of themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually and allow them to share precious time with other mothers of special needs children.”

Program highlights for the conference include:
Keynote Address by Mindy Audlin, author of What If It All Goes RIGHT? Renee Trudeau presenting “The Transformative Power of Self-Care” For the daring, a 225 ft Canyon Crawl & Zip Line over an 80 ft deep canyon Breakout sessions on nutrition, fitness, yoga, & more. Supportive sponsors on-hand to answer questions and provide resources

McAllister reports that although this conference is targeting a small group of moms living in and around the Austin, Texas area, there are moms flying in from across the country and one of the speakers is even coming in from Austria. She also says that she will continue to offer this event at least annually and possibly even extend it nationally.

The Special Moms, Special Healing Conference and Revitalizing Retreat is looking for support from various sponsors who believe in supporting moms who care for children with special needs. Both cash and in-kind sponsorships are welcomed. Those interested in attending should sign-up for the conference mailing list as subscribers will be notified first when the registration opens in January 2011.
