Columbia, MO (PRWEB) December 17, 2007

Under a $17,000 grant recently awarded by VA Mortgage Center. com, National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) will be working with several partners to create housing opportunities for low-income and homeless veterans, including National Guard and Reserve troops now serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Other priorities include ensuring access to health care and employment services, as well as peer counseling and community support systems for veterans returning home from combat operations.

The corporate sponsorship, a first for VA Mortgage Center. com (http://www. vamortgagecenter. com), was inspired by recent reports of the high numbers of homeless veterans. In particular, a story in the Kansas City Star prompted the Missouri-based organization to take action.

"We are always looking for ways to support the veteran community," said VA Mortgage Center. com CEO Nate Long. "We researched a number of issues and organizations and we found NCHV to be the perfect fit for us."

VA Mortgage Center. com, an Inc. 500 award-winner, specializes strictly in VA loans. The company focuses on a step-by-step costumer assistance process designed to take the frustration out of lending. As an active member of the veteran community, VA Mortgage Center. com has contributed over $35,000 in scholarships and charitable donations in 2007.

NCHV - a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, D. C. - is the resource and technical assistance center for a national network of community-based and government service providers that provide emergency and supportive housing, food, health services, job training and placement assistance, legal aid and case management support for more than 150,000 homeless veterans each year.
