The Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC), in honor of National Case Management Week, is pleased to announce Dana Deravin Carr, RN,-BC, CCM, MPH, MS has been named recipient of the 2010 Patricia McCollom scholarship. The one-time, $1,000 scholarship supports tuition, travel and expenses of continuing education for a certified case manager (CCM®).
Now in its third year, the scholarship honors former CCMC Commissioner Patricia McCollom, a certified case manager best known for her passion for continuing education and skill as a speaker. CCMC, committed to being the global leader for the advancement and evolution of case management, bestows this distinction on dedicated certified case managers who exemplify values that promote and advance quality case management practice.
“Dana’s application stood out, given her commitment to education, mentoring and professional growth,” said CCMC Board of Commissioners Chair Annette C. Watson, RN-BC, CCM, MBA. “CCMC holds these qualities in high esteem, as they are integral to the development of certified case managers adhering to the highest standards, which set CCMC apart in the industry. On behalf of the Board, I’d like to warmly congratulate Dana, who I’m sure will make tremendous impact as she continues her case management career.”
Carr’s work in the case management industry has spanned more than 20 years. She is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Public Health Program, Health Policy and Management at the New York Medical College School of Public Health. In addition to her academic endeavors, Carr is a registered professional nurse, and practicing case manager. Carr speaks enthusiastically about the intersecting professional and scholarly pathway that, she hopes, will empower her to affect positive changes in the public health sector. And she expresses great pride in the work case management professionals do daily.
“I wear my certification proudly and passionately – so I’m thrilled and honored to have received this scholarship,” said Carr. “The doctorate program in which I’m enrolled corresponds with the CCM credential, as both reflect the importance of functioning in an interdisciplinary capacity to support patient advocacy.”
Carr has earmarked the scholarship funds to help defray costs for several conferences, including the upcoming International Conference on Urban Health in New York City. While in attendance at these meetings, Carr intends on discussing her roles as nurse and case manager with other participants.
“The role nurses, and case managers in particular, play in the field of public health is vital. And I believe that certification facilitates case managers’ ability to do their very best,” she concluded.
National Case Management Week observed October 10-16, 2010 is an important week for the practice of Case Management. It is an opportunity to highlight the role and value of Case Management and to recognize the accomplishments of Case Management. This week is an excellent opportunity to increase the awareness and need of case management in promoting the delivery of quality health care across all practice settings..
