Bionetix UK has developed a water retentive, environmentally friendly compost that could alleviate the UK gardeners’ fears as hosepipe bans are enforced.

Eco-Grow Bio-Compost is made from coir pith (the unwanted husks of coconuts), plus nutrients, soil enhancers and bio-stimulants. This key ingredient, coir pith, has exceptional water retention properties, absorbing up to four times its own volume of water. Its high lignin content results in a very slow rate decomposition making it a long-life soil conditioner. The Bio-compost is also totally peat free

From April 2006, nearly 13 million people have faced restrictions on water use, especially in southeast England where 18 months of below average rainfall has caused drought. This period is drier than the same time in 1976. Water companies in southeast England are imposing hosepipe and sprinkler bans to help conserve supplies because many experts can’t predict how long the dry weather will last.

The UK is facing one of the worst water situations for decades and gardens will suffer this summer as a result. Using a hosepipe during these bans is illegal and incurs a fine of up to £1000.

Additionally, Eco-Grow Bio-Compost contains bio-stimulants, which help to promote healthy plant growth by stimulating hormonal activity. This activity is essential for root formation, cell division, and plant health and stress tolerance. Eco-Grow bio-stimulants also contain high concentrations of both humic and folic acids, along with marine plants, enzymes and micronutrients. It is highly effective as a plant growth stimulant, soil enhancer, chelating/colloidal agent, and as a disease suppressant. Eco-Grow Bio-compost allows gardeners to look after their garden but not worry about hose pipe bans or fines.

Dr. John Duffy, managing director, says: “We British are very proud of our gardens but we also don’t want to incur hefty fines during the hosepipe bans. So gardeners can ensure their hanging baskets and geraniums are nourished, they are being kind to the environment, and are not breaking the law. Using Bionetix biological products gardeners can enjoy vibrant growth of all plants and shrubs throughout the hot summer months, when watering is kept to a minimum.”
