CDC and FDA to Discuss Vaccine Stockpiles and Pandemic Influenza Preparedness

CDC and FDA to Discuss Vaccine Stockpiles and Pandemic Influenza Preparedness

Representatives from the U. S. Food & Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control to present at GTCbio's 3rd Annual Vaccines Conference in Arlington, Virginia on November 3-4, 2005.

MONROVIA, CA (PRWEB) September 3, 2005

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 36,000 Americans die each from complications of the flu. Yet this is a fraction compared to the millions of fatalities worldwide that could result from a Pandemic Influenza outbreak. The looming question after last yearÂ’s unexpected flu vaccine shortage is whether or not the United Stated Government is prepared to face this threat.

On November 3, representatives from the U. S. Food & Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control will be discussing this issue at the 3rd Annual Conference on Vaccines.

The conference is presented by GTCbio and will take place at the Sheraton Pentagon South in Arlington, Virginia on November 3-4, 2005. During the course of this 2 day event, over 25 presenters from industry, academic and government will discuss public acceptance, funding opportunities, as well as the increasing need for vaccines and how they are affecting society in this nation and around the world.

Norman Baylor, Director of the FDA’s Office of Vaccines Research and Review, will present a talk on the “FDA's Approach to Meeting the Challenge of Pandemic Influenza Preparedness”. Dr. Baylor’s presentation will discuss accelerated pathways and new technologies that could increase vaccine manufacturing and capacity.

Susan Gorman of the Centers for Disease Control will discuss Vaccines and the Strategic National Stockpile. Her talk will provide insight on how Government and Industry have been working together to address current public health issues and future threats.
