The Carl Banks Celebrity Golf and Poker Tournament has enlisted a star-studded line up of celebrities for its second annual event to raise funds for autism, including Golf In American Host and Actor Anthony Anderson, Michael Strahan, Maury Povich and Geraldo.

Hackensack University Medical Center’s Institute of Child Development will be the 2010 beneficiary of the golf event, to be held Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Alpine Country Club in Demarest, NJ.

“I’m thrilled that so many celebrities have decided to come out and support autism,” said Carl Banks, a former NY Giants Super Bowl Champion, sportscaster and entrepreneur. “The tournament is set up to raise money and awareness for autism.”

The celebrity roster also includes: radio host Ed Lover, newscaster Maurice DuBois, Dr. Ian Smith and athletes John Starks, Darryl Strawberry, Harry Carson, Zeke Mowatt, Alan Houston, Herb Williams, Ron Harper and several members of the current New York Giants.

Banks, whose young nephews Ryan and Phillip Cohen, are functioning with autism and attend the HUMC’s Institute for Child Development, said helping children with special needs is his passion. All funds from this event will be used to support research and treatment for autism, which impacts 1 in 90 individuals in the tri-state area.

“My goal is to do my bit part to make life a little easier for children with autism and their family, said Banks. “There are many programs available and I want to help get the word out.”

The HUMC’s Institute for Child Development serves infants, children and adolescents with special needs. The institute provides health care services for children with developmental disabilities, speech disorders, hearing impairments, learning disabilities, attention disorders, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome and other chronic handicapping conditions.

The outing includes breakfast, 18 holes of championship golf and high stakes Texas Hold ‘Em for non-golfers; spa treatment provided by Beyond Spa also available. Golf entry fee $350 and Poker entry fee $250. Prizes include autos, jewelry, electronics, travel and sports packages and many more raffle prizes.
