Hearing Health for Life a Priority for Local ENT Specialist

During the national “Hearing Health for Life” campaign the Ear, Nose, Throat & Allergy Center of Claremore and Owasso, OK are doing their part to educate the public on the importance of hearing health. “Hearing loss usually develops over a period of several years. Since it is painless and gradual you might not notice it therefore it is important to be constantly aware of the health of your ears in every season of your life,” says Dr. Karrie Cuttler, AuD / CCCA a board certified audiologist at the Ear Nose Throat and Allergy Center.

Infants through school-age children often suffer from ear infections which can ultimately lead to hearing loss if untreated, congenital hearing loss, and foreign objects being put into their ears. Children can also experience hearing loss from trauma, noise, and viral and bacterial infections.

Those who are in the teenage through mid-life stage can experience hearing loss through toxic noise which is unprotected exposure to extremely loud noises at school, work, or leisure. Tinnitus, which is a ringing or humming in the ear, is also a problem for many in this stage of life.

A variety of hearing threats face those who are mid-life through elderly including age-related hearing loss, noise-induced hearing loss, circulatory problems, and inner ear disease.

“There really is no age that is not vulnerable to hearing loss threats,” says Dr. Welch. “Many hearing disorders are treatable and even preventable, that is why everyone should see their local ENT specialist if they suspect a hearing deficit,” added Welch.

If you have ear pain, drainage, excess earwax, hearing loss in only one ear, sudden or rapidly progressive hearing loss, or dizziness, it is especially important that you see an otolaryngologist (ENT Specialist). A hearing screening from a hearing aid dealer may not be adequate and a more accurate assessment of your ability to hear pure tone sounds and understand words from a certified audiologist may be necessary.

In line with the national campaign, which is educational in nature, the Ear, Nose, Throat & Allergy Center will feature various public service articles concerning common hearing health issues. Doctor Welch will also participate in community speaking engagements. The center is also announcing the launch of its new website—www. ENTAllergyCenter. com—where patients can go for more information on various ENT and Allergy issues and set up appointments online.

For those in Northeast Oklahoma, including the Claremore and Owasso areas, the Ear, Nose, Throat & Allergy Center offers specialized care for hearing problems. Doctor Mark Welch is board certified ENT specialists who can give people the professional education and treatment they need.

The clinic also offers the services of Karrie J. Cutler, Au. D /CCCA. Dr. Cuttler is a Board Certified / State Licensed audiologist with nine years experience in hearing evaluation and rehabilitation. She has extensive experience testing children of all ages, including infants.
