According to It’s Just Lunch, the premier dating service for busy professionals, with over 85 locations worldwide, dating trends among singles in Vancouver greatly differ from singles in Toronto. Dating services are the number one place singles in Vancouver are meeting each other. 56% say a dating service is the last place they met another single they dated, while in Toronto 35% of singles say they met their last date at a bar.
Singles in Vancouver meet other singles while being physically active, 55% are meeting other singles while spinning, ballroom dancing, playing tennis or golf while 47% of singles in Toronto think continuing education classes are the best place to meet other singles.
“Because of the beauty and location of Vancouver, men and women tend to be physically active.” says Leah Gyori, owner of the It’s Just Lunch office in Vancouver, “The chances of meeting someone while being outdoors or participating in a sport are greater here than in bigger cities like Toronto.” Gyori also adds, “Singles in Vancouver are also health-conscious, 50% think it a turn-off when their date smokes or drinks too much.”
The differences between singles in Vancouver and Toronto are also apparent in the varied dating pet peeves they have. 79% of singles in Toronto think a date that never shows up and stands you up is unforgivable, whereas 63% of singles in Vancouver say they would be offended by a date that is rude to the wait staff.
In Vancouver, 44% of singles say when it comes to their date’s appearance their biggest pet peeve is a date with no fashion sense or bad fashion sense, while in Toronto 64% think a date that is un-groomed is worse than a date with no fashion sense. 69% of singles in Vancouver and 79% of singles in Toronto agree that their biggest hygiene pet peeve is a date with bad body odor.
The survey also found that 63% of singles in Vancouver would accept a second date with someone even if they displayed one of their pet peeves, at the same time 50% would ask their date to stop his or her bad behavior. Singles in Toronto are not as forgiving only 36% would attempt a repeat date in the same situation, but only 36% would ask them to stop their behavior.
Finally for the ladies, over 90% of single men in Vancouver say they love it when a woman approaches them first, but 43% of women say they never approach a man they find attractive. 27% said they would only approach a man at a bar or social event and only 1% of women say they approach men all the time!
