Freelancers Bite Back at Designcrowd. com

Freelance web developers and designers of all disciplines now have a new free forum site dedicated to connecting them with clients searching for their services.

In this world of "pay-for-everything", freelancers are not taking things on the chin! Hundreds of 'lance sites are appearing on the internet to offer projects to freelancers for a price. This in itself is setting a dangerous precedent as global competition for these projects is driving the costing down.

The Internet has seen an explosion in so called "lance" sites. Their services are a sort of go-between to bring together clients requiring projects with freelancers seeking work. Whilst the client uses the service for free, the freelancer is charge an ever increasing fees just for the privilege of bidding for the projects. In theory this seems reasonable but in practice the market is being destroyed by lower and lower bids as more freelancers from around the globe bid against each other. This in turn is pushing down the quality of the available work.

Some job sites charge up to £175 a month to access their database of projects. This situation is fast becoming critical for the freelancer. To add to all these problems there are students offering to work for nothing just to build up their portfolio. They don't realise that when they leave college they'll be trying to support themselves on unsustainable market expectations they themselves created.

Fed up to the back teeth with the freelancers 'lot' John Thompson, himself a freelancer, decided to set up a volunteer-run forum/community (www. Designcrowd. com), for freelance Designers, Programmers & Web Developers. "In just 2 months we have been overwhelmed", he says, "attracting nearly 800 members".

The ethos of the forum is to find jobs, projects, clients and offer them to the freelancers on the site for no fees. John says that member join up is gaining pace daily and clients are taking a very healthy interest. He goes on to say, "I feel very happy that at last freelancers are getting a decent deal".

If you're a client or freelancer and you'd like more info take a look for yourself. Its all free at www. Designcrowd. com!
