New York's Continuum Health Partners Exclusively Selects eClinicalWorks : Agreement will Bring Electronic Medical Records System to Approximately 3300 Employed and Volunteer Providers; Streamlined Solution to Enhance Care throughout New York City

EClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that Continuum Health Partners, the largest nonprofit health system in New York City, has exclusively selected eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) software for its 1200 employed physicians, 1100 residents and 1000 volunteer physicians along with eClinicalWorks Electronic Health eXchange (eEHX). Use of eClinicalWorks software will provide better communication between practices and will foster improved patient care at a reduced cost.

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (PRWEB) November 4, 2008

This exclusive deal is comprised of three components: physicians that accept Medicaid and meet the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's (NYCDOHMH) criteria under its Primary Care Information Project (PCIP); employed physicians that fall outside of that criterion; and volunteer physicians. In April 2007, the NYCDOHMH and eClinicalWorks announced a $19.8 million deal to bring EMRs to physicians meeting specified criteria as part of its PCIP initiative (http://www. eclinicalworks. com/pr-newyork. php (http://www. eclinicalworks. com/pr-newyork. php)). As an extension of that contract, Continuum physicians that fall under those guidelines will be able to receive the software through a deal between Continuum and the NYCDOHMH. eClinicalWorks will also integrate with Continuum's Siemens Eagle registration, GE Centricity Flowcast, Soft Lab and GE Centricity Imagecast systems to further automate healthcare quality and reliability.

"Continuum Health Partners has several disparate systems across its locations," said Bonnie Sessa, CIO of Continuum Health Partners. "eClinicalWorks will enable us to remove them and create a streamlined solution throughout the community. After a year and a half review process, we selected eClinicalWorks for the sophistication and ease-of-use of its system along with the opportunities it allows by eliminating redundant software."

Continuum will implement eClinicalWorks unified EMR/PM system with the goals of streamlining the clinical processes and promoting patient safety while reducing costs. Using eEHX will create a community record that will enable physicians to have access to patients' vital health information and allow physicians to exchange data more effectively.

"Continuum is one of the most recognized health systems for its patient care initiatives," said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. "Being selected by Continuum is a testament to the success of the PCIP and other community projects. eClinicalWorks is proud to have been selected by a health system as prestigious as Continuum and looks forward to offering its physicians a transparent view of its patients' health records, allowing them to provide an optimal level of care."

Continuum Health Partners is a nonprofit hospital system in New York City that is comprised of five distinguished hospitals: Beth Israel Medical Center, Roosevelt Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, Long Island College Hospital and The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. About Continuum Health Partners

Continuum Health Partners was created in January 1997 as the parent company for the partnership between four distinguished voluntary hospitals: Beth Israel Medical Center-Milton and Carroll Petrie Division, Beth Israel Medical Center-Kings Highway Division, St. Luke's Hospital and Roosevelt Hospital. Building upon the strength of these institutions, Continuum began the development of a broad-based, integrated health services network extending throughout the New York metropolitan region. Within two years, Long Island College Hospital of Brooklyn, located in the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill section, and The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, located on Second Avenue and 14th Street in Manhattan and the oldest specialty hospital in the Western Hemisphere, joined the Continuum family, broadening the influence of each member institution and the partnership as a whole.

Today, Continuum has an annual operating budget of almost $3 billion and delivers inpatient care in six major hospital facilities in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The Continuum network also encompasses ambulatory health centers and group and private practice settings throughout the New York metropolitan region. Continuum operates more than 2,700 certified beds; provides for over 650,000 days of inpatient care and over 1.3 million outpatient visits; has more than 4,500 affiliated physicians; and a work force of over 15,500 individuals, making it the sixth largest private employer in the New York metropolitan region.
