Healthy Children Academy students will be integrated with the Patterson School student body in the classrooms, dorms, and dining facilities. Headmaster Colin Stevens wants to train all Patterson School students to make healthy living choices.

“The primary goal of the Academy will be to balance studies with nutrition and exercise,” he said. "We want to provide a safe nurturing environment and help children build their self-esteem. Dear Mr. Green:

I write to express the gratitude of the Brody School of Medicine, the Metabolic Institute, and, indeed, of the University for providing the remarkable opportunity to learn about obesity in children and adolescents. Over our three years of cooperation, you have not only provided a premier experience for the campers, you have also served as a classroom for our students and faculty.

You have also demonstrated as well as anyone in the U. S. that the summer camp experience can provide dramatic weight loss, sharp improvement in performance, and great relief of emotional burdens. I have attached a recent abstract of our research; it tells the story very well.

It's no surprise that the students and parents hold you in such high regard; I do as well. I look forward to working with you again next year.

With best regards,

Walter J. Pories, MD, FACS

Exercise & Sport Science
