Ancient Minerals Launches Comprehensive Online Magnesium Health Resource

Ancient Minerals Launches Comprehensive Online Magnesium Health Resource

The newly enhanced Ancient-Minerals. com website is a one-stop source for individuals and health care providers seeking trustworthy, free and accurate information about magnesium. Site visitors have instant access to magnesium-related resources, expert advice, and easy-to-digest lists of the risk factors and symptoms associated with magnesium deficiency.

San Ramon, CA (PRWEB) November 3, 2010

LL Magnetic Clay today announced the launch of its enhanced, content and feature-rich website at http://www. ancient-minerals. com. The company is confident the content-rich site will help build public awareness of magnesium and the dangers associated with a deficiency, and will make solutions more accessible to those that need them.

"The Ancient-Minerals. com expanded content library represents a collaborative effort to put a wealth of research and detailed information into a format that's easily digested and understood by the public," said Jared Ramirez, Vice President of LL Magnetic Clay. "The added content, including a video interview series and live chat, is targeted at people who don't have time to thoroughly research magnesium; a key mineral that regulates over 300 biochemical reactions in the body." he added.

The updated website contains more than 20 information-packed magnesium health articles that answer the most common questions people have about magnesium. These articles comprehensively explain the health benefits of magnesium, the best dietary sources of magnesium, the pros and cons of different magnesium supplements, the magnesium-calcium connection, and more. A special guide puts the spotlight on magnesium deficiency, a relatively unknown and underreported health issue that has serious and potentially deadly consequences.

Facts About Magnesium Direct from Health Professionals

Also new to the site are YouTube hosted magnesium video interviews providing consumers with expert opinions from health professionals regarding magnesium and its vital role in human health.

The first three video interviews from the series are ready for viewing. These include:
"Author of Transdermal Magnesium, Dr. Mark Sircus, on Magnesium Supplements", featuring Mark Sircus, Ac., O. M.D. and author of three books on magnesium; "Mike Mahler, Kettlebell guru, on Magnesium", featuring Mike Mahler, strength trainer, kettlebell instructor, and author of multiple books and hundreds of feature articles on improving fitness through better lifestyle choices; and "Magnesium for Muscle Spasms and Sports Injuries", featuring Dr. Kathleen Akin, Michigan State Medical Director and owner of a successful nutritional and detoxification wellness center and chiropractic practice.

Site visitors can also discover the benefits of transdermal magnesium therapy by taking advantage of the new live chat feature that puts them in direct contact with experts in this field. In addition to the expert advice, they can hear live testimonials from people who have found relief from various health problems through the use of topical magnesium treatments.

Three-Quarters of Americans' Magnesium Intake Deficient

Few people understand the amount of magnesium that's needed on a daily basis. Although magnesium plays a crucial role in hundreds of biochemical reactions, most people's daily intake is insufficient. Over time, this imbalance can lead to a magnesium deficiency.

According to epidemiological studies and reports published by the World Health Organization, roughly three-quarters of Americans' diets are deficient in this vital resource, with 20% of the population consuming less than half the magnesium needed daily to remain healthy.

The symptoms of low magnesium can include decreased energy, mobility and muscle function, an increased risk of high blood pressure, depression, and insomnia, insulin resistance, central nervous system complications, a weakened immune system, hormonal imbalances, and more.

In a message to the U. S. Congress on Magnesium and Health Issues, George Eby of the George Eby Research Institute wrote in 2005 that, "If these errors were corrected, I believe millions of lives and hundreds of billions of dollars in cardiac health-care costs would be saved.".

The Ancient-Minerals. com enhanced website and newly launched video series go a long way towards helping to achieve this and many other health-related goals.

Salt Lamp Cleanliness: 'Tis the Season for Naturally Better Air

Salt Lamp Cleanliness: 'Tis the Season for Naturally Better Air

The natural beauty of a salt lamp, and the healthful difference made to indoor air quality and human well-being, could offer an interesting twist for this season of giving. The folks at Ionicsalts. com shed some light on the benefits and uses of Himalayan crystal salt, including how a salt lamp actually works.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) November 12, 2007

A salt lamp (http://www. ionicsalts. com/) makes for a thoughtful, healthy gift. It's that time of year again. Traffic gridlock around stores and malls; the search for that prime parking spot near the door; the long lines of people waiting. Some things may never change. Fortunately, there are alternatives to these long-standing traditions of the American holiday shopping season. Ionicsalts. com shares some of the interesting natural benefits of salt lamps and Himalayan crystal salt; including insight on how a salt lamp affects surrounding air in a positive way. "They are unique, odorless, and remain effective for a lifetime," remarked Pat Wright, the company president. In fact, this salt is quite ancient and a pure remnant of this planet's "original" ocean.

Over 250 million years ago, a number of major geological and seismic events pushed waters of a pristine, primal sea inland into the hills and valleys of the region where India and Pakistan exist today. Water evaporated to leave only the purest sea salt containing up to 84 trace minerals; all of which are naturally found in the human body. Over time, tectonic shift and earth changes created enormous pressure on these layers of salt, forming the colorful Himalayan salt crystal resource found today.

This prehistoric salt not only contributes to healthier indoor air quality (http://www. ionicsalts. com/), but when used as bath salt it offers very effective, homeopathic skin care and natural relief for many skin conditions. By dissolving in bath water, the salt and trace minerals return to their natural state millions of years ago. Skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, and rashes can each benefit and improve from use of natural salt bath products. Soaking with Himalayan bath salt is also well-known and recommended for relieving muscle aches, fatigue, as well as rheumatism and skin diseases.

In food, crystal salt brings renewed flavor, a natural source of iodine, and does not burden the body like common, refined table salt. Cells and systems struggle to process and assimilate typical kitchen salt because it is unnatural, contributing to such things as high blood pressure, gall and kidney stones, arthritis, and cellulite. Use of crystal salt in cooking and food adds support to nutrient absorption and the elimination of toxins. However, the most popular form of Himalayan salt is still the salt lamp due to the visual appeal and availability.

Salt lamps are available in many combinations of colors, including peach, pink, orange, red, blue, and white; all determined by mineral content. Along with standard natural-style shapes, they are often crafted into many artistic designs and themes like flowers, animals, symbols, and geometric shapes. The lamps are normally illuminated and kept warm by an incandescent, candelabra-type bulb of enough wattage to keep the surface warm to the touch.

The warmth of a salt lamp is important to the effect it has on the surrounding indoor air quality. The heated salt surface naturally collects humidity from the air, and because the salt is warmer than air temperature, evaporation is accelerated as well as the ionic reaction of water and crystal salt dissolving into solution. By convection, the warmed air around the lamp rises, circulating more cool air to the lamp from below, thus maintaining the cycle.

Additionally, airborne microbes, allergens, and other respiratory irritants require water molecules in order to remain in the air and viable. This moisture also carries a slight positive electrical charge. A salt lamp (http://www. ionicsalts. com/) attracts and removes these molecules, accomplishing two things. Airborne irritants fall harmlessly to the floor, unable to remain airborne and alive because there is nothing on which to cling; therefore, indoor air quality is healthier and smells fresh. Also, the natural positive charge of indoor air is neutralized, increasing the ratio of negative to positive ions. Negative ions are scientifically proven to be beneficial to physical and mental health as well as overall human well-being. There is also no ozone produced, which is common with many manufactured air cleaners. Salt lamps are an environmentally-friendly way to reduce indoor air pollution, and an excellent natural aid for those with asthma or respiratory allergies.

Ionicsalts offers a vast selection of premium-quality Himalayan salt crystal lamps, bath salt, candle holders, and accessories available online with an unconditional, hassle-free 30 day guarantee.

Ionicsalts. com is an American, family-owned and operated business emphasizing premium-quality and world-class customer service. Based in Charlotte, NC, USA. Direct import and wholesale available.

Additionally, Mr. Rhodes understands the importance of acknowledging the bold steps of those remarkable young men and women who dare to take their dreams even further. For this reason, the other primary mission of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance to these high schools to enable them to furnish scholarships to certain talented young men and women for the continuation of their academic careers beyond high school. The Kerry Rhodes Foundation has also begun to bring awareness about cancer, physical health and childhood obesity among other initiatives.

About Tommy the Clown

Thomas “Tommy the Clown” Johnson was born in Detroit and moved to Los Angeles when he was an early teen. Like many of his friends and neighbors, Tommy found himself in and out of trouble while trying to survive. After spending 5 years in jail, he realized that this lifestyle was not for him and needed to make a drastic change. Determined to never go back to his old ways, Thomas rejoined society and got an honest job as a typist clerk. But in 1992, Thomas’ life changed in a way he could have never predicted. One of his co-workers asked him to be a clown for her child’s birthday and because of his upbeat personality and sense of humor, she thought he’d be perfect for the job. Up for the challenge, he took the job and Tommy the Clown was born. Tommy the Clown has since become the pioneer of an inspirational dance movement known as “Clowning” and “Krumping” and turned a popular form of birthday party entertainment into a worldwide phenomenon.

Tommy’s shows involved the latest music and dancing and he would engage the kids to get up and dance with him. At the parties, he saw how the kids would light up when they would dance and Tommy quickly developed a loyal following all over LA. Tommy soon realized he was not only a party entertainer, but also a role model and leader.

Tommy realized that he could give the youth a unique opportunity to get into dancing instead of drugs or gangs by creating a dance crew called the Hip Hop Clowns that he would hire to perform with him at the parties. Tommy’s rules were simple: No gangs, No drugs, Do well in school (grades, attendance and behavior) and Be a role model by living a positive lifestyle at all times. Once they met those requirements, Tommy took the dancers and their raw talents and trained them to be a performance crew while always encouraging them to tap into their own creativity.

Tommy’s dance craze caught the attention of award-winning director and photographer, David LaChapelle – who was compelled to film this amazing movement. LaChapelle directed the documentary feature, Rize, which was released in summer of 2005 through Lions Gate Films.

Tommy the Clown and the Hip Hop Clowns have since been asked to entertain for celebrities such as Madonna, Pamela Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer. They have also traveled all over the world including London, Japan, Germany and Hong Kong making various appearances and performances, inspiring people all over the world to keep spreading the movement. Tommy has also appeared at various schools and colleges across the United States and recently formed a partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District to provide an in-school workshop on Clowning and Krumping based on the California Education Standards. His immediate goal is to establish the Battle Zone League in middle and high schools where the students wanting to try out need to have a teacher recommendation and also must maintain good behavior, attendance record, and grade point average at all times.

ConsumerLab. com Finds Quality Problems with Nearly 30% of Fish Oil Supplements Reviewed (Including Krill and Algal Oil Supplements)

ConsumerLab. com Finds Quality Problems with Nearly 30% of Fish Oil Supplements Reviewed (Including Krill and Algal Oil Supplements)

Independent tests of fish, krill, and algal oil supplements by ConsumerLab. com revealed quality problems including less omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) than claimed, spoilage, and contamination. A new report compares 39 supplements on quality, value and concentration of omega-3s in fish oil, krill oil and algal oil supplements. Expert tips on uses, dosage, and potential side-effects are provided.

White Plains, NY (PRWEB) September 28, 2010

Tests of fish, algal and krill oil supplements revealed quality problems with 7 out of 24 products selected by independent testing organization ConsumerLab. com (http://www. ConsumerLab. com). Three products contained less of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and/or DHA than claimed, spoilage was detected in one of these products as well as in two others (including a children’s supplement), an enteric-coated product released its ingredients too early, and a supplement for pets exceeded the contamination limit for PCBs. Seventeen other products passed testing as did 15 products similarly tested through ConsumerLab. com’s voluntary certification program. ConsumerLab. com’s report (http://www. consumerlab. com/reviews/fish_oil_supplements_review/omega3/) is now available online to its members.

ConsumerLab. com reported these additional, notable findings:
Labels on some products included terms such as “pharmaceutical grade” and “tested in FDA approved laboratories,” which are meaningless as there is no basis for either claim. A krill oil supplement that failed for both spoilage and low omega-3 levels claimed to be quality assured under GMPs (good manufacturing practices). Another “krill oil” supplement contained more fish oil than krill oil. Most products met ConsumerLab. com’s strict contamination limit for dioxin-like PCBs of 3 picograms per gram (3 parts per trillion). However, one product (a pet supplement) slightly exceeded this limit with 3.14 picograms per gram. However, this exposure is still very small compared to that from fish meat -- a small serving (3 ounces) of fatty fish such as salmon may easily provide 170 picograms of dl-PCBs as well as a significant amount of mercury. Trace amounts of dl-PCBs were found in all supplements, despite claims on some of being free of contaminants. There was no detectable mercury in any of the supplements. The cost to obtain 100 mg of EPA and/or DHA from fish oil ranged from about 1 cent to 15 cents among fish oil supplements, and was about 30 cents from krill or algae oils. A fairly standard daily dose of 500 mg of EPA + DHA from a quality-approved product could be had for as little as 6 cents. Higher prices were not associated with higher quality. Concentrations of EPA and DHA ranged from less than 20% to over 80% of the marine oil content listed on front labels -- which is why consumers should specifically look for the amounts of EPA and DHA which typically appear on side labels. “Supplements providing EPA and/or DHA are a great alternative to fish as a source of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids, as they typically have far fewer contaminants, cost less, and are more convenient to obtain. But products vary in quality, strength, odor-reduction, and price, so you need to choose carefully,” said Tod Cooperman, M. D., ConsumerLab. com’s president.

Consumption of EPA and DHA appears to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and may be helpful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, other inflammatory diseases, and psychiatric illness. EPA and DHA may also reduce the risk of certain cancers and macular degeneration. Fish oil supplements are given to pets to help maintain their coats and skin. U. S. sales of fish oil supplements in 2009 were $976 million, up 20% from the prior year, according to Nutrition Business Journal. A recent survey by ConsumerLab. com (http://www. consumerlab. com/news/Supplement_Survey_Report/1_31_2010/) showed that fish oil had become the most commonly used supplement among people who regularly use supplements, exceeding, for the first time, the use of multivitamins. Seventy four percent of respondents reported using a fish oil supplement.

The new report (https://www. consumerlab. com/reviews/fish_oil_supplements_review/omega3/) includes test results, quality ratings, comparisons and reviews of products from the following brands: Advocare, CardioStat (Amerifit), Carlson, CVS, Dr. Sears, Finest Natural (Walgreen), Garden of Life, Kirkland (Costco), Life Extension, Liquid Solutions, Master Omega, Natrol, Natural Factors, Nature Made, New Chapter, Nordic Naturals, NOW, NSI (Vitacost), Olympian Labs, OmegaBrite, Origin (Target), PregnancyPlus, Puritan’s Pride, Quest Longevity (Canadian), Res-Q, Solgar, Source Naturals, Spring Valley (Walmart), Swanson, Trader Joe’s, The Simpsons, Vital Nutrients, VitalOils (VitalRemedyMD), Vitamin Shoppe, Vitamin World, Weil, Wellements, and 1-800-PetMeds. The report also includes information about dosing, side-effects, cautions, reduced-odor products, and proper storage of fish oil.

In addition to the products reviewed, two krill oil ingredients by Enzymotec USA have been tested and approved for quality through ConsumerLab. com’s Raw Materials Testing Program (https://www. consumerlab. com/results/rawing. asp).

ConsumerLab. com (http://www. ConsumerLab. com) is a leading provider of consumer information and independent evaluations of products that affect health and nutrition. The company is privately held and based in Westchester, New York. It has no ownership from, or interest in, companies that manufacture, distribute, or sell consumer products.

Two Days, 100 Miles, and the Desire to Make a Difference

Two Days, 100 Miles, and the Desire to Make a Difference

Attorney Thomas Henson named Chair of Eastern North Carolina Tour de Cure

Raleigh, NC (Vocus) February 8, 2010

This June, hundreds of cyclists will pedal Carolina’s scenic back roads to raise funds for diabetes research during the Eastern North Carolina Tour de Cure (http://tour. diabetes. org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TDC154358030?pg=entry&fr_id=6858). Spanning from Cary to Southern Pines, “the Tour” is a great experience for cyclists and an even greater challenge for event organizers. Everything from mapping routes and forming committees to coordinating rest stations and booking entertainment must be planned months in advance. And the man in charge of it all is attorney and avid cyclist Thomas Henson Jr (http://www. lawmed. com/thomas-henson-jr. php). Whether he’s turning the wheels of justice or the ones on his bicycle, Henson is moving forward at an impressive pace.

“Thomas brings his words to action and inspires us to surpass our goals," said Amanda L. Law, an Associate Manager of the American Diabetes Association (http://www. diabetes. org/). "He has the tremendous talent and professionalism that is key to the success of our event and the committee he leads.”

Henson, who served as last year’s event co-chair, will help manage the subcommittees that organize the event as well as recruit riders and raise funds for the event. He’s also responsible for facilitating committee meetings and monitoring tour finances.

Putting His Mettle to the Pedal
Riding his bike an average of 70 to 100 miles weekly, Henson began riding in the Tour about five years ago and has been participating in charity cycling events for almost eight years.

“Every mile we ride and every dollar we raise brings us that much closer to finding a cure for diabetes, which affects more than 23 million Americans,” said Henson, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age nine and has successfully managed his disease with diet and exercise for more than three decades.

Henson raised $2,672 during last year’s Tour and recently received a Fundraising Achievement Award at the American Diabetes Association’s 2010 Unmasking a CURE Gala for being one of the top three individual fundraisers in 2009. Additionally, the HensonFuerst Cycling Team (http://www. lawmed. com/tour-de-cure-2009/index. html) raised more than $21,000 during the last two Tours and was named one of the 2009 Tour de Cure Top 100 Fundraisers.

About the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure
The Tour de Cure is the nation’s largest event to raise money to fight diabetes, and thousands of riders and teams have participated in the event since its inception in 1991. Last year, more than 38,000 cyclists raised almost $16 million to help prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. The HensonFuerst Health Initiative
The Tour de Cure is one of many projects and events in which the members of HensonFuerst devote their time. To recognize the importance of giving back to the community, the firm established the HensonFuerst Health Initiative, a comprehensive plan that encompasses all of the law firm’s community and service efforts. The initiative encourages both community and firm members to prevent injuries, improve health and fitness, and aid organizations committed to bettering health and well-being. Portsmouth, NH (PRWEB) May 2, 2009

Kirk Communications (www. kirkcommunications. com), a leading global provider of integrated marketing solutions, today announced that it has been selected to design the Website for New Hampshire-based Thermonexus, LLC, a provider of advanced GeoEnergy systems. Kirk Communications was chosen because of its experience in Web development and its successful track record implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) programs worldwide.

Thermonexus provides products and solutions to connect homes, offices, schools or hospitals to renewable, clean thermal energy from the earth. GeoEnergy is the most immediately available renewable energy, but unlike wind or solar, it is available onsite. Thermonexus helps its customers make a direct, immediate and measurable impact on energy consumption and climate change and the company's new Website showcases it expertise in the field.

Thermonexus wanted to better demonstrate its ability to collaborate with HVAC contractors to optimize the thermal connection of a closed loop heating and cooling system. It was imperative to the company that its mission be better explained online.

"We have identified a need for our expertise in the heating and cooling market and we know that featuring that expertise online will help us win business opportunities," said Susanna M. Maher, managing member, Thermonexus. "Kirk Communications helped us position Thermonexus exactly where we need to be to promote our side of that collaborative business model and ultimately reach our intended market," said Maher.

A key product offering from Thermonexus is a new heat exchanger technology, HPGX. The increased efficiency provided by HPGX now enables geothermal technology to be utilized in metropolitan areas where the demands for interior climate control are the greatest. "This system accomplishes two very important goals," according to Kevin Maher, the firm's technology expert. "It provides increased heat transfer while protecting ground water resources." Thermonexus is marketing and deploying this technology throughout New England. The company's new website highlights importance of renewable energy sources, like geothermal, as the world combats global warming.

About Thermonexus, LLC
Based in Windham, NH, Thermonexus, LLC is advancing the adoption of GeoEnergy by providing expert resources to the HVAC community and by offering a high performance ground exchanger technology to realize the potential of clean, thermal energy from the earth. You can make a direct, immediate, and measurable impact on energy consumption and climate change. Please visit us on the Web at www. thermonexus. com.

JRS Architect, PC, Wins AIA Long Island Chapter's 2005 Archi Awards for North Fork Bank Designs

JRS Architect, PC, Wins AIA Long Island Chapter's 2005 Archi Awards for North Fork Bank Designs

Mineola, NY-based JRS Architect, PC, one of Long Island’s premier architectural design firms, won a prestigious 2005 Archi Award First Place for its work on the Roslyn-Flower Hill branch of North Fork Bank. The firm also won an Archi for its design of a new North Fork Branch in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Mineola, NY (PRWEB) November 17, 2005

JRS Architect, PC, one of Long Island’s premier architectural design firms, won a prestigious 2005 Archi Award First Place for its work on the Roslyn-Flower Hill branch of North Fork Bank.

The Mineola-based firm won first place in the Waldner’s Business Environments Furniture and Fixtures category in the juried competition sponsored by the American Institute of Architecture Long Island Chapter. Results of the competition were announced on Oct. 20.

“We are extremely gratified to receive the extraordinary honor that has been bestowed on our work by the AIA Long Island Chapter,” said JRS President John R. Sorrenti, AIA.

The North Fork Bank branch features a terrazzo floor radiating in a starburst from a central checking desk; deep brown, palm-leaf pattern carpet; woven dark wood fixtures; metal painted ceiling tiles; hand-crafted burnished brass chandelier and oversized plush leather chairs. The finishes, millwork and lighting futures designed by the firm were influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement popular in the late 19th Century, according to the project architect, JRS Senior Vice President Alex Hadjiyane, AIA.

The recently opened branch is the latest in a string of projects in JRS Architect’s growing portfolio of bank branch designs for North Fork Bank and other financial institutions, among them JP Morgan Chase, New York Community Bancorp’s Roslyn Savings Bank and Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

JRS also won a Commendation Award in the 2005 Archi Awards in the interior architecture category for its design of North Fork Bank’s Williamsburg, Brooklyn branch. The design, at the storefront level of an existing landmarked building, attempts to address the new vitality of the long-stable community that has resulted from an influx of artists. The 3,500-square-foot interior space lies behind a 1930’s cast-iron façade, which is strongly gridded and decoratively cast with detail. The design team headed by JRS’ Ray Maggiore selected elements such as the ribbed-metal tellers’ counter with bullet resistant glass, soffits, partitions and millwork, and intentionally located them out of alignment as part of an effort to create the illusion of movement. The design gives the appearance of a subway car moving past the thick columns of a train station platform.

JRS Architect with offices in Mineola, NY, and Princeton, NJ, has grown from six people since its establishment in 1986 to more than 30 today. It has developed design expertise in the corporate, financial, healthcare, education and residential markets. The firm ranks within Interior Design Magazine’s list of the 100 largest design firms in the nation. For more information call (516) 294-1666 or visit www. jrsarchitect. com.

Schwarzenegger Protects 6 Million Kids From Exposure to Experimental Pesticides

Schwarzenegger Protects 6 Million Kids From Exposure to Experimental Pesticides

Kids & Teachers Are not Lab Rats.

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2006

Governor Schwarzenegger, who has portrayed heroes on film became a real hero to more than six million children and hundreds of thousands of teachers and school employees when he signed Assembly Bill AB 405, banning the use of experimental pesticides in California Schools.

AB 405 authored by Assemblymember Cindy Montanez and sponsored by California Safe Schools, a children's environmental health organization, is a common sense bill that prevents K-12 public schools from being used as test sites for experimental pesticides, and protects children, teachers and schoolworkers from being exposed to chemicals whose health effects are unknown.

"California Safe Schools is extremely grateful to Governor Schwarzenegger, Assemblymember Montanez, the California Legislature, and many supporters for ensuring that California's most vulnerable population will now be protected," said Robina Suwol, Executive Director of California Safe Schools, the bill's sponsor.

To their credit, Los Angeles Unified School District, second largest school district in the United States, have already committed to implementing the measures required by AB 405 and currently employ significant policies to protect students from chemical exposures.

"The fact that threshold levels of pesticide exposure and health studies are currently based solely on an adult male of approximately 160 pounds underscore that children are counting on adults to protect them. With the signature of AB 405, we have taken a step toward fulfilling that

Responsibility," Suwol said.

The bill's long list of endorsers included:

California Medical Association, California State PTA, California School Boards Association, California Teachers Association, Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America, Los Angeles Unified School District, Learning &

Disabilities Association of America, California Communities Against Toxics, California Environmental Rights Alliance, Sierra Club, California League of Conservation Voters, and the Environmental Health and the Environmental Justice Community.

Employer Training Helps America Rally for Veterans

Columbia, MD (PRWEB) July 15, 2008

America is rallying on multiple fronts to ensure its military personnel receive proper care for their war related injuries. Unduly delayed or otherwise sub-standard medical services are more an intolerable than common exception to the government's rules on assisting American soldiers and veterans. Their psychological and cognitive injuries are no longer insurmountable barriers to government security clearances according to Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates. For those needing expansive, health-related accommodations in private workforces, Congress is delivering widespread, bi-partisan support.

Representative Steny Hoyer (D-Md) and Representative James F. Sensenbrenner (R-Wis) with more than 200 co-sponsors, introduced H. R. 3195, coined the ADA Restoration Act of 2007. The proposed legislation was reportedly prompted by U. S. Supreme Court rulings, limiting those considered disabled under the Americans with Disabilities Act beyond the intent of Congress. Findings for the bill express sentiments essentially echoed by Department of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao.

Noting the Department of Labor's work with the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs ". . . to assist both returning wounded and injured service members. . . ," Secretary Chao recently ended a keynote address, extolling efforts to keep ". . . doors of opportunity. . . wide open for Americans with disabilities so they become fully participating members of our society and workforce." Addressing the challenge from a diversity perspective, Ed Crenshaw notes as president and CEO of DESTIN Enterprises, LLC that "productive employees is an important goal in creating sensitive and inclusive work environments." He adds with regard to combat exposed veterans that "reasonably knowing and understanding their specialized needs is the key to providing workplaces in which they are likely to thrive."

DESTIN is an employment services firm featuring assistive technologies for marketing job candidates with disabilities. It has provided placement services for transitioning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans through the Transition Employment Assistance Management Service (T. E.A. M.S.) division of Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC). Ed explains that in servicing the contract, "it became apparent to me that the strategic meshing of multiple disciplines and perspectives was essential for managing interplay between reasonable accommodations and conduct rules for combat exposed veterans."

With the help of former WRAMC staff psychiatrist and OIF veteran, Dr. Cynthia J. Washington, DESTIN developed the employer training program entitled "PERCEVD", an acronym for "Preparing Employers to Reintegrate Combat Exposed Veterans with Disabilities". Dr. Washington explains that "war prompts a variety of conditions which may be disabling or cause symptoms that impede a veteran's ability to work." She adds, "PERCEVD emphasizes the capabilities of combat veterans and helps ensure those considerable strengths are not overlooked through ignorance or intolerance."

The PERCEVD curriculum addresses such topics as military vs. civilian culture; proper etiquette among people with disabilities; understanding common combat-related illnesses and conditions; recognizing and addressing various behavioral issues in the workplaces; understanding USERRA and ADA law; providing workplace accommodations; and utilizing diversity practices to empower workforces. Ed Crenshaw explains that "it takes competent employment management and diversity experts to translate relevant medical data, legal principles, and military concepts into practical strategies for employers attempting to create reasonably accommodating work environments for combat exposed veterans." According to Crenshaw, "PERCEVD is more than the sum of its parts which is why even managers familiar with several related subjects are impacted and come away from the training with valuable, new insights."

On July 22, 2008, DESTIN and co-sponsors Technology FFWD, the MARANZ Company, and America Online (AOL), will present a full-day training exhibition of PERCEVD at the Cohen Building - 330 Independence Avenue SW - Room 5051 - Washington DC 20237. "Invitations to participate are being circulated among a virtual who's who of public officials, private employers, commercial interests, and nonprofit advocates" touts Crenshaw.

Who’s at risk for fatty liver disease, from the Harvard Health Letter

Who’s at risk for fatty liver disease, from the Harvard Health Letter

As Americans have gotten fatter, so have their livers, and some hearts may suffer as a result.

Boston, MA (Vocus/PRWEB) January 06, 2011

Up to 20% of American adults have some degree of fatty liver disease, a condition that used to occur almost exclusively in people who drink too much alcohol. The increase can be blamed on the twin epidemics of obesity and diabetes, reports the January 2011 issue of the Harvard Health Letter.

One leading theory is that the condition starts when muscle, fat, and liver cells stop responding normally to insulin. This so-called insulin resistance is a hallmark of obesity and diabetes. Insulin resistance also increases the amount of fat molecules circulating in the blood. The accumulation of these molecules inside liver cells can lead to liver inflammation and damage. This is called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

NASH is often a relatively stable condition with few if any symptoms. But it can also lead to serious damage to the liver and its function—a condition called cirrhosis.

A liver biopsy is the only way to definitively diagnose fatty liver disease or NASH. In most cases, weight loss is the only recommended treatment. As people lose weight, the fatty liver becomes less fatty.

The Harvard Health Letter notes that there are two bright spots about fatty livers. First, most cases don’t result in serious liver disease. Second, the treatment is to lose weight—and that will benefit many other parts of the body besides the liver.

South Central-Los Angeles Births The Very First Urban Teen Online Magazine

South Central-Los Angeles Births The Very First Urban Teen Online Magazine

Two Entrepreneurial women are out to change the urban landscape with Lil Miss Thang

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 3, 2006

Before you allow your children to purchase media products that may influence their decisions in life or their own perception of themselves, check out Lil Miss Thang online Magazine. No newcomer to urban life, native south-central Los Angeles, Andrea Woods and Wesina Orso, have created the very first teen urban magazine geared to improve young people’s self perception.

Today, kids are presented with the many issues and much like the experience in their own lives growing up in the inner-city of Los Angeles, both ladies wanted to share these experiences with today’s youth in the form of a positive magazine. As a result, Lil Miss Thang was created out of the desire to reach out to tomorrow’s trend setters by allowing their female readers to know they have media that reflects their daily realty. Both women realize the importance of obtaining parental acceptance to go hand-and-hand with this influential online media.

What distinguishes LMT’s approach from other teen-oriented magazines is that it will reflect the diversity of the urban experience. “Our Magazine will influence young peoples lives by means of their choices in everything from fashion to dealing with relationships with their family members, parents, and boyfriends. We should have a say in those choices,” says LMT’s C. E.O. Andrea Woods. Lil Miss Thang online magazines focuses on the things teens enjoy like make up, hot teen guys, celebrity inside scoops and the many issues today’s females encounter growing up in their urban setting. The magazine’s celebrity and fashion line up’s are inching up the media ladder with the competitive likeness of magazines like Seventeen Magazine and Teen Vogue. LMT’s aim is to bring topics that teens from multicultural communities of its readers can enjoy. According to LMT C. O.O. and co-owner Wesina Orso, "The question I get most often is, 'Are you considered the good girl magazine?'” The team insists the magazine perhaps could be considered “good,” however, they are simply trying to impact young women’s lives by not only presenting things that are considered trendy but healthy and uplifting alike.

Lil Miss Thang, Inc. plans to release there first online issue of the magazine on June 5, 2006. The first issue will touch on topics from “25 Hot Guys under 25 “ to Teen Domestic Violence and the sign parents should watch for while raising teens. Lil Miss Thang online is a source to open topic between teens and parents on touchy issues that maybe affecting your youth today. While reporting untold teen problems, the online publication also features very positive inspirational pieces with young entrepreneur BRE from the Nickelodeon new up and coming show “Star Camp” with Giggle Club/Star Camp C. E.O. Nick Cannon. Every month will bring articles that highlight many positive people influencing urban culture.

The June 2006 issue should be embraced by parents and teens alike. LMT encourages parents to write and request issues they would like to see addressed amongst teens. Andrea and Wesina do promise this, “Our magazine will promote positivity, entertaining, and self esteem-building features. This is why we say, Lil Miss Thang has attitude for all the right reasons.”

"Painted Ladies" Event Explores Impact of Baltimore Breast Enhancement

"Painted Ladies" Event Explores Impact of Baltimore Breast Enhancement

A Baltimore plastic surgery practice is promoting a new book featuring photos and stories of local women describing the impact of cosmetic breast procedures including breast augmentation and reconstruction. Baltimore, Maryland skin health and cosmetic specialist Dr. Lauri Kane says the book is important for its message about women's personal body image and self esteem.

Baltimore, Maryland (PRWEB) October 24, 2008

Baltimore women are presented photographs and share their life stories in a new book illustrating the dramatic personal impact of breast augmentation and breast reconstruction on their lives. The book, "Painted Ladies: Celebrate Life," describes an event hosted at The Center for Cosmetic Surgery & MediSpa to allow breast augmentation and reconstruction patients from Baltimore, Maryland to publicly share the effects of their cosmetic surgery on their bodies and self-image (more information at www. baltimorepaintedladies. com).

"The 'Painted Ladies' publication and DVD are part of a larger effort to help these seven women share the real scope of their experience with breast enhancement," says Baltimore cosmetic enhancement specialist, Lauri Kane. "We are promoting this book, and holding a reunion on October 27, because we believe it's important for women to help each other address very real issues relating to body image." The sale of the book and the DVD will benefit The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®.

The initial Painted Ladies event which the book illustrates, and which the reunion will celebrate, began as a routine open house and breast surgery lecture by Lauri Kane and her husband Dr. Dean Kane, who is a board-certified Baltimore plastic surgeon and medical director of The Center for Cosmetic Surgery & MediSpa.

"The basic premise of the event was to make these women feel like 'queens for a day,'" says Lauri Kane. "Every woman can relate to problems with body image that hinder their free expression of real beauty within and self-worth. Some of these women have been through some very difficult experiences, like breast cancer, massive weight loss and post-pregnancy breast deformities. We offered these women the opportunity to help others by publically communicating the new body shape and self image they've achieved."

The women, who represent a variety of ages, ethnicities, and body types, received body paint on their bare torsos to mimic the appearance of contemporary dress clothing without hiding the contours of their augmented breasts. After receiving jewelry and professional cosmetic makeovers and hair styling, the women held a "red carpet" show including a professional photo shoot. Afterward, they sat before a camera to describe their personal history and experience with breast enlargement and reconstructive surgery.

"Breast augmentation for Baltimore, Maryland women is a very personal process, with the potential for dramatic impact," explains Dr. Dean Kane. "These women had the self-confidence to clothe themselves in paint and publicly share their personal struggles with hundreds of people at the event and on a DVD. That speaks volumes about how their procedures have helped to rejuvenate both their look and their outlook."

For Lauri Kane, the "Painted Ladies: Celebrate Life" event and book go beyond the realm of visual appeal. "The book communicates a message about how women can realize new confidence and joy in their bodies and lives. It sends a message: unhealthy body image does not have to control you. That message is important enough that we wanted to share it with other women, too."

Lauri Kane is a registered dietician and specialist in skin health and cosmetic enhancement. She partners with Dr. Dean Kane (www. drdeankane. com), who provides plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery at The Center for Cosmetic Surgery & MediSpa. Dr. Dean Kane is a board-certified plastic surgeon who offers surgical enhancements such as breast augmentation from his Baltimore, Maryland plastic surgery practice. Through an informative Web site, www. baltimorepaintedladies. com, Web readers can learn more about this event and find out how to get their own copy of the Painted Ladies book and DVD.

Texas Attorney Asks Parents To Remind Their Children About The Dangers of Distracted Driving

Texas Attorney Asks Parents To Remind Their Children About The Dangers of Distracted Driving

Texas personal injury lawyer Jack Zinda of Heselmeyer Zinda, PLLC, says National Teen Driver Safety Week serves as a valuable reminder of the injuries and fatalities caused by distracted driving and the need to educate young drivers about the risks of using electronic devices while behind the wheel.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 22, 2010

Parents of teen drivers should take the time this week to talk to their children about the risks of using electronic devices while driving, Texas personal injury lawyer Jack Zinda says.

As part of its ongoing Teen Safe Driving campaign, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated the week of October 17-24 National Teen Driver Safety Week.

“So many needless deaths and injuries are caused in the state of Texas and across the country by teen drivers who are distracted by an electronic device while behind the wheel,” says Zinda, a founding partner of the law firm of Heselmeyer Zinda, PLLC, which represents car accident victims from its offices in Plano, Austin and Round Rock.

“This week is the perfect time to sit down with your teen driver and remind them to always focus on driving instead of playing with a radio, talking on a cell phone or trying to send or read a text message,” Zinda says. “When you’re distracted by an electronic device, you put yourself at serious risk of injury or death, and you endanger the health and safety of others on the road.”

Statistics show there is a significant problem with distracted teen drivers, Zinda says. He points to an NHTSA report indicating that 11 percent of the people who died in distracted driving crashes nationwide in 2008 were teens ages 15 through 19 years old.

In 2008, out of the 795 people who died in crashes that involved a distracted teen driver, 659 were teenagers, the NHTSA reports.

Zinda says he is particularly alarmed by the results of a Pew Research Center Internet & American Life Project study in which nearly half of the teens interviewed said they had been in a vehicle while a driver texted. One in three teens admitted to Pew researchers that they had texted while driving.

“As a personal injury attorney, I’ve worked with victims who were severely injured or families that lost a loved one due to the negligence of another driver,” Zinda says. “I think if more teen drivers were made aware of those tragic consequences of distracted driving, fewer teen drivers would try to send a text message or use any other electronic device when they are behind the wheel.”

About Heselmeyer Zinda, PLLC

The personal injury attorneys of Heselmeyer Zinda, PLLC, represent victims of drunk driving accidents and all types of motor vehicle accidents, including truck, car and motorcycle. Seattle Mariners and Boeing Employee Credit Union Join the MS Express to Benefit Multiple Sclerosis

The Seattle Mariners and BECU announced today that they have joined the MS Express, inviting the event’s founder Carlo Magno of The Spirit of Hope Foundation to throw out the first pitch in the Mariners’ June 5 game against Kansas City.

Anacortes, WA (PRWEB) May 23, 2006

In conjunction with BECU’s Family Night, the baseball game will be Magno’s first official stop along the MS Express, his 4,300 mile, cross-country journey in an antique electric wheelchair. En route to New York City, Magno and assistance dog Katie will travel across the northern United States to raise awareness for handicapped accessibility issues and $1 million for Multiple Sclerosis.

“Since I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis nine years ago, it has been my dream to throw out the first pitch at a Major League Baseball game just to prove I could do it,” Magno said. “Coupled with the launch of the MS Express, I couldn’t ask for more. I have the Mariners and BECU to thank for making this dream come true.”

When they learned of Magno and his courageous trip, the Seattle Mariners and BECU were quick to team up in support of the MS Express.

“Mr. Mango’s courageous trip represents the credit union spirit of people helping people,” said Tom Berquist, BECU Vice President of Marketing. “Asking him to throw out the first pitch during our June 5 Family Night seemed a fitting way to send him off.”

“The Seattle Mariners are thrilled to support Carlo and the MS Express,” Rebecca Hale, Director of Public Information for the Mariners added. “His mission is a challenging one, but we believe Carlo can do it. We wish him much success in reaching his goals.”

Founded by Carlo Magno, The Spirit of Hope Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation dedicated to raising awareness for handicapped accessibility and quality of life issues. J Records Talks Boston Rap

J Records Talks Boston Rap

J Records close to signing Boston-based recording label, Dudley Station Records.

(PRWEB) February 16, 2005

After months of negotiations, Dudley Station Records and J Records have yet to reach an agreement for J Records to distribute the small startup label ran by MC Spice (producer/songwriter responsible for Marky Mark Wahlberg's career). With artists such as Spirit, Blueprint, Tori Boyd, Lenora Jaye, Blaze One, Kevin O'Brien & Dudley Station Officials, Dudley Station Records is capitalizing on the region's musical taste, fashion, lifestyle and language just as predecessors like Nelly and Matser P have done in their respective regions.

"It's time for Boston to emerge on the scene so they know we got skills and business sense, too," touted the rapper, who started the label last January. The album, "Lover Brown" by MC Spice will be released June 14, and the single, "My Mind Is A Battlefield" will be released February 24. The rapper is no stranger to the news, and has shown his concern for the omittance of materials and information regarding mental health issues in his community.

MC Spice recently joined forces with CABF. ORG, to help develop pamphlets and non-traditional promotions methods to target the urban community and get the word out on Bipolar awareness. Diagnosed with the disorder in 1994, the rapper is an advocate for treatments and education and has developed a close working partnership with neighboring Mass. General Health.

Should Dudley Station records decide to sign with J Records, MC Spice promises not to buidge one inch from Boston to make his presence known. "I want all my love here. I want my building here. I want my music produced here. I want the label dudes to come here when they wanna talk. Boston has contributed to the black music genre and to music on a whole, and we deserve some credit." Says Boston's first rapper to pen a platinum hit ("Good Vibrations/Marky Mark).

In related news, M. C. Spice and his wife, Lakeisha "Spirit" Gilliard are expecting a new edition to the family this fall.
